5-0 out of 5 stars Expensive but worth every penny
Buy this upgrade!!

While not a true switcher (as I run a high end Win XP Pro PC(2.4 ghz dual Intel cpu 2 gig ram [money] Pro-graphics card and the fantastic Sony GWM-FW900 24" wide screen monitor) for [money] a seat 3d CAD/CAM software)

But to replace my ageing Dell 800 p-3 mostly used for games and fun with Linux) as a main home computer

I bought a top of the line iMac 800 G-4 super drive in March to see what all the fuss was about ref OS-X. as I am an old Unix geek thought it would make a nice BAD Unix toy if this Apple thing did not work out and it was so fine to look at as an industrial design engineer.

So if any one was entitled to be miffed with Apple at the full price on this 'point' upgrade it was I.

Well this is NO 'point' upgrade! this is like going from Wi 98sp2 to XP pro SP1 only much more so not only Was X 10.1.5 rock solid on the iMac G-4 this 10.2 is faster and better in every way in very subtle ways

If I could get my work software ported to OS-X I would have a dual G4-1.25 Ghz driving my Sony MFW-900 in a moment

I am a total convert to the fantastic beauty of this OS and I Have ordered Ashlar Velum Cobalt to see if it can replace my work PC software on a Mac

4-0 out of 5 stars Substantial improvement
This is a very stable, incredibly smooth OS. It launches at lightning speed, is very intuitive and the learning curve is very short. If there is a downside, compatible professional graphic software is in short supply. It is a huge improvement over Windows and previous Mac OS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazon reviews: Now featuring False Information!
Mac OS X does not disable built-in floppy drives. Mac OS X runs better on computers that are built for it. Running it on a Beige G3 is like running Windows on a 486; you can do it, but it doesn't mean you should. Crashes occour from poorly-designed APPLICATIONS, not OS X. I have had OS X for over a year, and I have had only 2 'kernel panics' (full system lockups). hbj200 is wrong about the 1%. it's more like 8% and growing rapidly, and everyone uses Windows because they believe Bill's propaganda. There is more documentation about digital cameras that networking in OS 10.2 because of Rendezvous (Stable, Efficient Networking for Dummies)

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony VAIO T250 vs T350
The T350 offers intelligent WAN, new memory configuration, and a cool redish color. But...if you don't want to log on to Cingular in the WAN offering choose the T250. While the keys are smaller than a normal keyboard, this 6'1" user finds them acceptable for fast typing. The 802.11g works great. And while I compare it to my HP at 2ghz the speed of the Sony seems just as fast. The touch-pad works well. The weight is fantastic. And the screen, while a bit small, is very very crisp. I am using 120dpi and large font size in IE. A little on the expensive side, but this little baby rocks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent but too heavy
We were trying to move it from the floor onto the TV stand. We just can't do it. Too heavey. If you are moving soon, you may want to buy a lighter TV. Quality is ***** though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional TV for the price
This model (along with its 34 inch sibling) was rated a best buy by Consumer Reports in traditional TV widescreen HD category. I have it plugged into my Cablevision service for HD signal - the step up in picture quality compared to standard signal is quite noticeable. But the good thing is that even standard TV transmission (non HD) produces very good picture on this TV (which was a factor in its best buy choice by Consumer Reports). The TV has plenty of video inputs of all kinds, including 2 component video and 1 HDMI.
I have my Panasonic S97 DVD player hooked up to this TV via HDMI input and this allows my Panasonic DVD player to upconvert DVD's to 1080i so I can watch them as clear as the HD TV. Granted that the DVD upconvert to 1080i is a Panasonic DVD player feature but you can't use it without having HDMI input on the TV.
According to the Consumer Reports review of HD TV's, most HD TV's produce great picture with the HD signal but the picture quality is not so good with standard TV signal. Since most of the programming on TV continues to be transmitted via the standard signal, this TV's very good performance with the standard TV signal was a big factor in my buying decision.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Wrong
This is as fine an HDTV as one can possbly buy at an affordable price. I have seen all alternatives up to 42-inch plasmas. This Sony equals or betters them all in image sharpness, color range, black level, and so on. Fed by my COMCAST digital cable box, I have been absolutely delighted with this purchase, and do not see replacing the set even if plasma prices fell by 50%. Yes, it took my son's help to lift it upon the matching stand, but what the hell, shouldn't one get 160 pounds for $850 (at Sears on a Sears card)?

4-0 out of 5 stars brilliant in comparison
first off, i got my set for 720 dollars, same price as the 27" 4:3 model. so i have no room to complain. obviously the quality and features wont match the 2 grand XBR series sony, but for the price and compared to its counterparts, its absolutely brilliant! very easy to use, enough audio/video enhancements and inputs. plus its a sony, you just cant beat its quality. pick this one up to start you off in hd, then in a few years, you can get the XBR when its reasonably priced! oh and also, didnt see much of a difference between the HDMI and component input running LOTR: Return of the King.

5-0 out of 5 stars Widescreen high-definition TV at an affordable price
Contrary to popular opinion, you don't have to buy an expensive plasma or LCD (liquid crystal display) TV to get a great high-definition picure. In fact, many experts (including Consumer Reports) assert that high-definition TVs using traditional cathode-ray tube technology -- as this high-definition Sony does -- currently offer a sharper picture than plasma and LCD TVs, plus they are much less expensive and more reliable. This widescreen HD Sony TV has a very good picture with standard broadcasts and an outstanding picture with HD broadcasts and DVDs. If you'd like to get a widescreen high-definition TV now but your budget is limited to a thousand dollars or so, please consider this 30" Sony. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Fooled Twice, Shame on Me!
I went through two scanners and about 10 hours before I realized it wasn't me, my computer or the "energy" of my office that was a problem. This scanner has a serious defect in its ability to scan anything that isn't very white or COMPLETELY flat against the glass. Vertical banding of dark and light stripes appeared in every scan I undertook with both 4600's.

I was given the runnaround by the HP tech(?) and am going to have to wait until HP or some other company revamps the technical issues of what is otherwise an elegant and smart design.

As a point of comparison I did identical scans with my Epson Stylus CX5400 all in one and when I could get a scan that wasn't plagued with the vertical banding I found the Epsons color and clarity superior at identical resolutions. (sarcasm here) Mind you, the Epson is a slightly more expensive ($50) printer copier scanner while the HP is only a scanner. This HP does not do what it is advertised to do.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unknown device for my computer
This scanner does'nt work on an ASUS P4P800 motherboard. It is not recognized by Windows XP SP1. On other systems it works.
It is smart but only for the look, not for working.
It seems to be the same problem with HP 4700. I'm disapointed. don't stay in confidence with the nice look and the HP brand. This is not a good HP product, read the reviews on commerce sites.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great design, BUT... also, questionable marketing
Granted, this is a great scanner and an inventive design. For me, however, the design screams to be used in a mobile fashion. After all, the unit is touted as a great scanner for large or unwieldy items (as opposed to a strictly desktop scanner, for instance). In my case, I was looking to use it for copying from books for use in research. If you have tried copying from a book on a flatbed scanner, even one with an expandable lid, you'll know the difficulty involved. With the 4600, one can effectively crop the book in realtime, eliminating the guesswork. BUT, imagine my surprise to learn that the scanner comes with a wall wart AC transformer! The addition of a power adapter significantly undercuts the 4600's utility as a mobile scanner (e.g.--books in a library). As an owner of a usb-powered Canon flatbed scanner, it didn't even occur to me that the 4600 would be different. Note that the marketing materials leave the impression that the 4600 is usb-powered. It touts a "combination usb/AC cable", a phrase that is certainly open to interpretation. In this case, it isn't even true: at some point, the "combination cable" _must_ split into a piece leading to the pc and a piece leading to the AC adapter. What is the advantage in this??? Also, the marketing materials cryptically list among the contents this line: AC adapter (where applicable). What does this even mean? A big thumbs down to HP for crippling a potentially great scanner, and attempting to hide its true identity. It's great as a desktop scanner, but there are loads of competitors that are cheaper in that class.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT when scanning 3D documents
As an avid scrapbooker and scrapbook business owner, scanning images that are "lumpy and bumpy" is next to impossible and believe me, I've tried every possible scanner out there. One of HP's ScanJet's did the trick for a while but it took up a majority of my desk. NOW I have a scanner that allows me to scan all my "lumpy and bumpy" objects with ease. Having a tough time finding something to scan something larger than 8x10? That's alright! This scanner comes with stitching software that gives PERFECT, SEAMLESS stitching. Awesome, awesome scanner. The best part is that I can stand it upright and store it beside my monitor so that I have more room for .... well .... more junk on my desk! :) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good for voice, many features. Weak on my music.
Upon reading other customer reviews I bought this tape recorder. It is ok for voice recording and playback, but when I recorded my piano practice the playback sounded awful. Since I had bought it for that purpose I returned it. For voice it has a good tone and the machine noise is less than others I have heard. So, especially considering all the features including cue/review it is a good choice for voice recording.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Machine
I've had one of these since 1993. It's perfect. It's a tape player and recorder, and that's it.

It never jams on a good tape. It's perfect at what it does.

Being an audiobook lover I use it to listen to my books around the house and it has had a lot of use!

Unlike units that have CD players, the tape is the focus, not an afterthought.

Also, it's far superior to tape units that switch sides for you, because they often switch sides at the least resistance, not necessarily the end of the tape.

In summation, this is the tape audiobook listener's friend for reliable, no trouble, listening for hours and hours and years to come..

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice features, Nice Price, Nice Cassette Recorder
This is a very nice cassette recorder, that is loaded with features that most cassette recorders don't have anymore. It has microphone jack, ear jack, tape counter, sliding volume control(on side of unit), built-in very sensative mic, that picks up full-fidelity sound. Uses full-size cassette tapes, has full-auto stop; which means that it will stop in Rewind, Fast Forward, and playing or recording. Speaker produces good sound, with clear recordings. I recently recorded old 78 records, using this recorder, and placing it near the record player. It produced, very clear, full-fidelity recordings; even from scratchy sounding 78 records. It also has cue and review, that let you rewind or fast-forward to selections without pressing stop key. Comes with AC adapter, and uses 4 "AA" batteries. Recorder is simple to operate, but produces good voice or music recordings. It has ALC for perfect recordings every time, without making adjustments. Highly recommend this recorder. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great computer for mom, dad, and grandparents
If you ever wanted to get a computer so that your parents and grandparents can keep in touch, get this one. The main reason why I wouldn't recommended a PC is because of all of the viruses and spyware that clog most machines today. My parents have 2 PCs in their home. A virus killed one machine. Spyware and popups slowed down the other machine to the point where web surfing is rendered useless.

Macs don't have to deal so much with viruses and spyware like PCs. Admittedly, you should double the ram. And maybe get a wireless keyboard to free up some USB ports.

Overall, this is the perfect PC replacement for mom, pop, grandpa, and grandma.

(...)

All in all, this machine is great for all the applications your parents will ever really use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Base Configuration should have 512MB RAM
Very happy with the machine, but it should have double the RAM as part of the standard configuration.Anything more than 2 apps running at one time and it slows down noticably.

The software suite that comes with the machine is awesome.Easy to use and tightly integrated.I'm using this machine for digital photo management and for web surfing. No spyware/virus problems with my mini (so far!).

As much as I like it, this machine doesn't have the omph to run the apps I really love, namely 1st person games. My AMD Athlon 1800+ with the same graphics chip (Radeon 9200) runs Call of Duty at high res with acceptable frame rates, while the mini is choppy running a demo version of the same game at 800x600.

Oh well. That's why I'm running both my mini and my WINTEL machine with a KVM.I can always switch back and forth by tapping a few keys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Mac, but you can't get it for free!
(...)

It is a well-known fact that these "programs" are run like pyramid schemes. Only the first few people to sign up actually got a Mac mini (it doesn't take a genius to see that you won't be the first sucker here). The rest just get heaps of telemarketing calls, junk faxes, and junk emails.

I ought to know--I'm one of the chumps that was foolish enough to try! Please, learn from my mistake and don't help these jokers rope in any more people.

The Mac mini is a great computer. (...)

4-0 out of 5 stars Mac Mini Makes Sense
I have always been in love with Apple Computers. Whether its' the design, construction, or hardware, it always gets to me. When I purchased my Mac Mini, I couldn't believe it. The thing is so tiny, its' the size of my hands, and its' unbelievably light-weight. It is the perfect thing to put on your desk. Even if there is a lot of clutter on your work area, the Mac Mini fits like its' nobody's business. When I purchased my Mac Mini, I added two things that everyone needs:

1. Doubled Ram
2. Keyboard and Mouse

Why do you need both of these things? The Mac Mini performs poorly on the minimum ram. Sadly, most Mac's do. For the keyboard and the mouse, the keyboard comes with an extra USB port in the back of it strictly for the one button mouse that Apple has to offer. So, you get an extra USB port on the back of your system for a camera, printer, etc. PLUS, all Mac keyboards have an eject button, so you don't have to move to the edge of your system to get the disc out. Never the less, you can use your old keyboard and mouse without a problem. I just recomend you buy it for the Mac Mini. However, you still need the extra ram, because you are going to need it. For your monitor, most people would have to buy an adapter. The port on the system is the most different of most monitor cables. So, you have to check the wire. The Apple Store have a huge selection of adapters, so go there if you need help finding one. All monitors work well with Mac Mini.

I love my Mac Mini. But why did I give it four stars? Look back. Apple gives you nothing with the Mini. If you don't own a PC, you will have to buy a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and RAM! Although, after that, it's still cheaper than the next small priced Mac, the eMac. I recomend this computer over any PC (Dell, Gateway, WHATEVER!) because it is small, and has better applications than the other systems. In essence, the Mac Mini makes sense.

Recomended Software:

-TIGER: Mini comes with panther until April 29th 2005. It is important that you wait until then, or upgrade your Mini after. For more information on Tiger, visit the Apple Homepage.
-.Mac: Membership to a whole new experience with E-Mail, Advanced Tools, and Virus Protection.
-Microsoft Office: Excel, Powerpoint, and Word are must-haves.

Mac Mini comes with iLife, so you can play around with Garageband, listen to music on iTunes, enjoy pictures with iPhoto, and watch homevideos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony Clie TJ27 Perfect for beginners!
This is my first handheld. I absolutely love it. The hotsync worked perfect with my computer without a hitch. It is light, convenient and very easy to use!!! The stylus is very thin and a little uncomfortable to hold, but I wound up buying a stylus that was pen-like and fits in my case perfectly and works with the clie with no problem. The photo feature is really cool too. It is not the best quality, but hey, when you a need a camera quickly, just snap a quick photo with the clie. It is easy to use, you can store photos on the handheld or use a memory stick and it's very convenient! My tasks, contacts and calendar sync quickly and easily with Microsoft Outlook. I don't think it will work with Express, but you may want to research that. I do all of my work on the computer and then sync it to the clie and boom, there's all the info! This is a great choice for a first time handheld...

5-0 out of 5 stars Delighted first time PDA user
I researched PDAs fairly extensively before I settled on my Sony Clie TJ27. Well it has been about a month, and I am delighted with it so far. Originally I was interested in a Palm but was frightened away by all the negative reviews everywhere. My Clie came with free Dataviz software (upon registration of the product on the Sony website), including word, excel and "Slides to Go" (similar to Powerpoint) and I have had no trouble transferring data from files on my PC to my Clie and performing hot sync operations.

I've taken pictures (okay, you need to get fairly close to your subject with the 2x zoom limitation, but if you want topnotch photography, buy a digital camera). The only area needing improvement is the battery power. When you use the camera, it eats batteries faster than if you were just working with data. All in all, I love it and would highly recommend, especially to first time users who don't expect it to be their morning alarm clock (honestly, who would rely on a handheld for this); a top-notch digital camera or their desktop. It is what it is - a great value for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price
I had a Handspring Visor Edge and the battery died on me, so, I thought it was about time to upgrade my PDA. I purchased the Sony PEG TJ27. I was shocked on how easy it was to convert all of my calendar and addresses information from my old PDA to my new one. The jog dial is very nice and the camera is a nice perk. The camera does not compare to a real digital camera, but it is fun to have. I do think that I should have paid the extra $100 to get the PEG TJ37 with the sound and wireless capabilities, but overall I enjoy my new PDA and I am very happy with my decision. As far as battery life, I have not yet tested, but it does require a lot more charging than the Handspring Visor Edge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid, Reliable
The TJ27 isn't a terribly exciting PDA-it has no sound capabilities so it can't play MP3s or video (with audio)-even though the rest of the hardware is more than up to the task. What it does have is Sony's typically high build quality and reliability. The screen is excellent (and unlike most PalmOne models, it doesn't hum loudly, and the backlight can be toggled on and off).
The button layout is questionable. A jog dial sits between two left/right buttons in the location that most PDAs have either up/down buttons or a 5-way navigator. Depending on the program, the left/right buttons sometimes function the same as up/down buttons on older PalmOS models, and sometimes the jog dial and left/right buttons function the same as a 5-way navigator. The 4 application buttons are a bit too small, too close to the left/right buttons, and are connected together. (The calendar and address book buttons are connected, and the to-do and memo buttons are connected). So the layout isn't the greatest, but it does work okay.
The camera, as with all integrated cameras, is almost completely worthless, but since it doesn't really raise the price any, it's not a big deal.
System speed is excellent. The TJ27's 200Mhz i.MXL CPU (Motorola's ARM chip) benchmarks only 27% slower than Intel's 400Mhz xScale. Of course that power is basically complete overkill, especially since the TJ27 can't really play video, but programs like Documents to Go, and the basic PIM apps respond very quickly.

All in all, this is possibly the best "basic" PDA on the market right now. No audio, a somewhat strange button layout, but far better reliability than you'll get from other companies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
I replaced my Palm 105m with the TJ27 shortly after the first of the year. It's a good value for the $200 price tag. Of course, it has the usual fearures such as addreess book, calendar, etc.
I also like the built-in digital camera (the picture may lack some quality, but it's quite good for everyday use). I also can give the back light screens high marks. The only two negatives are the battery has to be recharged frequently and unlike the plam there's no free built-in games. For your everyday use this is a great little unit. One last thing - their customer support: once you finally get through Sony's stupid phone menu and speak to a real live person, they are friendly and helpful. I had a small problem with the Hot Sinc and they fixed it right away. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Listen to everything on this new Sony powerhouse
I've been buying Sony Disc/Walkmans for the past 5 years now, and I have to say, this is the best one I've ever purchased. What makes this cd player so great are the many features bundled in it.Not only does it play cds, but it also has an AM/FM, TV, and Weatherband (WB) tuner. Its sort of like an all in one, jack of all trades type of deal. You want music, you get it, and a lot of it!

Pros:
-It looks attractive
-It runs on one AA battery that lasts an extensive period of time
-It does more than just play cds & mp3s
-Bundled software allows nearly 490 songs to fit on one cd
-Controls are quite simple to use
-Pretty good price for so much stuff packed into one thing

Cons:
-No backlight. It'd be great to read the LCD in the dark
-No remote like the lower models
-Headphones are a bit fragile & weak
-Reception on the radio is a little hazy when indoors

Apple's ipod has nothing on Sony's walkman here. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Returned with several complaints, I DON'T recommend this one
I think I found more problems with my 5970 than there are letters in the word LEMON. Others here like theirs, but my experience over 3 weeks of daily use left me disgusted and angry. I owned a Toshiba multi-disc DVD changer for years, and adored it. Hoped this would be the same. But noooo.... 1. Firstly, it began halting, skipping and otherwise having trouble with rented DVDs. Then, it happened with 1-2 new DVDs I'd bought AND NEVER PLAYED BEFORE. IOW, pristine discs, no smudges or scratches of any kind. Finally, it halted and skipped on two CDs (not CD-Rs) in a row. That was a clear sign that it had problems. 2. The response to the remote was haphazard; it took several button presses to get action. Same problem using my old Toshiba remote, and a Yahama receiver universal remote, pointed right at the IR receive port from 5' away. It almost always took 2-3 presses of a button before the 5970 responded. I noticed the same problem with the front panel buttons, telling it to open up and let me change discs took repeated button presses, and some patience (!), before the tray would finally eject. I then read a review here on Amazon of the Toshiba SD-6915 (multi-disc) remarking on EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. VERY annoying when you want to pause, or backtrack, or just find a spot. 3. Output to my HDTV via HDMI was problematic. (And the previous review is incorrect, you CAN find third party HDMI cables for < $150, just look harder. Try Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, and stop going to Best Buy. Search for Acoustic Research, Philips and RCA HDMI cables. Cheapest I saw was $39.) 480p images had a clear and unmistakable green tint to darker, background areas. Not so with the 480p component video output. The 1080i images on my TV were pillow-cased something awful, and shifted to the side about 5% of the screen, but this COULD be my TV's fault. The Toshiba defaulted to 1080i on power on, regardless of the last mode used. I COULD NOT use the "upconversion" feature through component video out. :(3. Unlike my previous Toshiba, and other DVD players, it would consistently "forget" the last play position when powering off. Even without any disc exchange. Sounds trivial, but try enjoying 1/2 a movie (or CD), then doing something else, and coming back to continue. Have to find your spot manually; irksome to say the least. 4. Audio out (TOS fiber optic digital) to my Yamaha receiver was always 2 channel, unless a DTS soundtrack was selected. The receiver decoded fine Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby Digital just fine, but wasn't getting "5.1" channels from this player via digital. My replacement DVD player, a Yamaha, clearly sends 5.1 channels for Dolby Digital; in fact, for Dolby D 1-channel, 2-channel, 5.1-channel tracks, the receiver gets exactly that from the DVD player. Your mileage may vary for other players, my old PlayStation2 sends Dolby 2.0, Dolby 5.1, and DTS 5.1 from Peter Gabriel's PLAY DVD as 2-channel digital out. After seeing what a better DVD player does, I would not accept a DVD player that sends Dolby Digital 5.1 audio to the receiver as 2-channel. (To the nitpickers, YES, I had the player set for PCM out. The other option was not compatible with digital audio out. My Yamaha has a "LT/RT" output mode for digital-only output,... maybe that's a factor?)5. I can't remember #5. But there was a fifth reason I sent it back. As if the previous 4 weren't enough! My suggestion? Try a Toshiba locally, then return it and buy it here. I'm still smarting at the $20 shipping expense of returning a bum unit.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture, Poor Functionality
We purchased this DVD player four months ago and have had countless issues with the functionality.During movie playback (if it will even load the DVD in the first place), the DVD will lock up for no reason. It basically freezes like your computer does. You have to turn the DVD player off and you're lucky if you can get it to even read the DVD after that. The issues we've been having with DVDs aren't even on older DVDs that we've had for a while--in fact, we just loaded a brand new, never been played, just taken out of the plastic wrapping DVD and the DVD player won't even read it.We loaded it into our older DVD player and it played without any issues.Furthermore, you have to hold the remote about three inches away from the DVD player for it to work half of the time. The picture quality from the HD up-convert is fantastic, but it's really not worth the hassle considering you won't be able to enjoy it on half the DVDs you own. It's just not worth the money considering the other viable options currently on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value
I was looking for a new DVD player for my new Samsung 46' LCD DLP. I came up to this DVD in BestBuy when I was planning to get the Samsung HDI DVD Player. It took me less than 5 minutes to figure out the connection (through the included HDMI cable) and played a DVD. I am impressed by the picture and sound quality. So, I decided to keep it. So far I've never come across any problems that other buyers are experiencing with the DVD. But then, I'm a casual movie watcher and only use my DVD player to watch rented new movies from Blockbuster. If you a casual movie watcher, I truly recommend this player. For $149, it has delivered a lot of value to me and my family.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Player for the Money
I have been using this plyer for two months with a Toshiba HDTV utilizing the HDMI interface and have had great results. The picture is fantastic.I have not experienced any of the "freeze up" or "blue screen" problems described in other reviews.

I do agree that the remote is poorly designed.I generally use my receiver or tv remote to control the player.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good player, however...................
I just recentyly purchased this Dvd player from Toshiba, and I am quite pleased with it. However there are 1 or 2 little problems(annoyances) that have to be addressed. First off this is a beautiful looking machine. Sleek and very stylish. It's very thin and does not take up alot of space. It is also very lightweight. Second, it is very easy to set up. Most dvd players with upconversion do not supply you with the HDMI cable, but this machine includes it at no extra charge. Very nice. It takes about 3-5 minutes to connect to your television set. You must use a HD tv or Hd ready tv with HDMI inputs to get the best results. You can also use regular componnent cables or RCA analog cables too. But since this is a advanced player with video upconversion it really doesnt make any sense not to take advantage of this more powerful player. It is also very easy to set up on the tv. There is a switch on the front of the player to switch to the HDMI mode. Then make sure your tv set is set to 1080i resolution, and also make sure the player is set that way as well. Use the HDMI button on your remote to do this. And then make sure your tv input is set to either HDMI1 or HDMI2. Most hd tv sets have two of those inputs available. Then your done. You will be blown away by the incredible detail and color of your dvd's, and you will notice a substantial difference over progressive scan, which is now the standard for most Dvd players.
Since the signal remains pure digital, instead of going from digital to analog to digital again, there is no loss in video or audio data, and the picture is uncompressed. So the signal from the player directly to the television remains pure digital. Now for the one or two little annoyances I mentioned earlier. The main problem that I noticed was the players minor unresponsiveness. It seems that sometimes you must press the play button or the open tray button two or three times to get the player to respond. Why? With my Pioneer standard Dvd player you just touch the buttons once for the actions to take place. Maybe I am being a little picky, and the player may just be a little sensitive to the touch. And one time the Dvd did not load properly and the player froze. I just turned the power off, waited a few seconds, put the disc back in, and it worked fine from that point. But for the most part, this is a very good player once you set up everything correctly. I also wish that this player played all formats of cd as well. But it will not play Dvd audio, or SACD surround sound discs. So in closing this is a very good player at a decent price, and if you want to see your dvds in the absolute best quality, then this player with fit the bill nicely. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!
I've only had this printer one day but I've never seen a better one!!The pictures look as good as the ones I got from a photoshop. If I could give it more stars I would!

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!
This printer is amazing. I don't know why it is so cheap. The pictures are great, it is compact, and very easy to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars great little printer
nice, small, compact printer.quality of the photos is great using dye sublimation printing.fun to watch the picture come together color by color.a little time consuming, but worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome little printer
I spent a lot of time reviewing these dye-sub printers.I rarely print from a memory card, so that feature was not important to me.Watching this thing do its magic is a lot of fun!3 passes to apply color, then the last pass for the glossy coat.

I got it mainly for its portable size.It is tiny!Another plus is that it comes with a paper pack and ribbon.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the photos are a tad (just a tad) flat.I think it has more to do with the sony paper. My full size canon i960 makes a better print on the canon glossy paper.

Other than that, this is a fantastic little device!

5-0 out of 5 stars Aperfect painless picture printer....
I picked up my Sony PictureStation last week. I had also considered the Canon CP 220, but decided on the Sony after I saw the prints from one at a friends home.

Installation was very easy and all went flawlessy. Setup consisted of installing the driver to my computer and hooking up the power, and usb (remember to buy a usb cable)...then inserting the printer cartridge and paper. The printer has a very small form factor and takes up litle space on my desk. I was printing 10 minutes after opening the box.

The prints are beautiful 4x6 pictures. Prints take about 1.5 minutes and are smudgeproof and waterproof right out of the printer. I would compare them favorably to photo lab prints. Cost is around 40 cents a picture if you shop around online for the 80 picture ink/paper pack.

Sony includes a 40 count paper/ink pack with the Dpp-Fp30 which is a very nice little bonus that allows you to print right away without purchaseing extra supplies.

Printing is easy from a computer or from my camera using the pictbridge feature. I am very pleased with the Sony Fp30 and would recommend it to anyone who wants a simple easy way to print gorgeous 4x6 pictures. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good features-not so good sound
I found this radio rich in features which are useful, but I was disappointed in the sound quality. I have not tried the Mega-bass feature yet so the sound might be better with that on. Also be aware if you have the radio above eye-level, such as on a high dresser, the time display disappears.

2-0 out of 5 stars look at the Sony 837 cd clock radio instead...
...which is already available at the jandr dot com website, don't know why Amazon doesn't have it, I bought mine at Fry's.

Anyways this older 843 model is way overpriced, looks ugly, and has a low-visibility backlit LCD display. Its sound is also a bit weaker, my sister has this model and she doesn't even use the wake up to music function because she often will sleep right through it so she has to use the buzzer instead.Which kind of defeats the whole point of a CD and radio attached to your alarm clock, doesn't it? ... Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba takes DLP technology into the future with the 52-inch TheaterWide 52HM84 HD-ready rear-projection TV. The 16:9 52HM84 uses a proprietary system called TALEN (Toshiba Advanced Light Engine); based on Texas Instruments' HD2+ DLP chip, it enhances brightness and contrast while keeping the 1,280 x 720-pixel progressive resolution (720p). Toshiba's TheaterWide TVs challenge direct-view CRT models when it comes to reproducing deep blacks and details in dark or shadowy scenes.

What is DLP?
The DLP processor DLP, or Digital Light Processing, is a technology that bounces a colored light beam across an array of hundreds of thousands of hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors attached to a single chip, called a "micro mirror device" (below, pictured with the head of a pin).
DLP mirrors dwarfed by the head of a pin
Each of the mirrors can be pointed toward or away from the light source thousands of times per second, providing not only minute color detail but also sharper resolution than even LCD displays.
Detail of resolution comparison between LCD and DLP
This set is HDTV-ready (it needs an optional hi-def receiver to get HD signals), but can improve standard-definition video thanks to Toshiba's multi-step PixelPure video processing system, which optimizes the three main picture quality factors: resolution, contrast, and color. All incoming signals are upconverted by the built-in "scaler" to match the DLP chip's native 720p resolution.

PixelPure encompasses 8 different processing circuits. Among its components are: 6.2 million-pixel oversampling (for higher perceived resolution), real-speed progressive scanning (which uses additional sampling points to create smoother diagonal lines), a Magic Square algorithm (for smooth, natural color gradation), Dynamic Contrast Enhancer (for higher perceived contrast and increased color saturation), and Color Detail Enhancer (to maintain fine image detail in color-saturated areas).

DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology uses an optical semiconductor, known as the Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD chip, to digitally manipulate light. The chip contains a rectangular array of up to 1.3 million microscopic mirrors, each of which measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair. A DMD panel's micromirrors are mounted on tiny hinges that enable them to tilt either toward the light source (on) or away from it (off)--creating a light or dark pixel on the projection surface. The bit-streamed image code entering the semiconductor directs each mirror to switch on and off up to several thousand times per second, such that the mirrors can reflect pixels in up to 1,024 shades of gray.

The HD2+ DLP chip ensures an ultra-clean image by filling in the dimples, or vias, in the mirrors to avoid stray light. It increases both brightness and contrast, resulting in an impressive color-corrected contrast ratio (2,200:1) at 1,100 ANSI Lumens. The set's TheaterFine HD Super Fine Pitch screen reduces the physical space between the lines on the lenticular screen, resulting in a finer, sharper, more detailed picture.

Toshiba's DFine Hi-Speed VSM (velocity scan modulation) improves contrast and overall picture sharpness, while the CableClear DNR+ digital noise reduction optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, further eliminating video noise ("snow") for a clean, crisp image. Cinema Mode circuitry (3:2 pulldown switch) identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material.

A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction helps eliminate dot crawl and color bleed and significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes. Color temperature controls allow you to adjust white balance. The "Warm" setting reduces the color temperature to an NTSC standard 6,500 degrees Kelvin and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. "Medium" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased.

The 52HM84 has plenty of inputs for connecting all your audio and video components. In back you'll find two RF, two composite video, two S-Video, and two HD ColorStream component video, as well as an HDMI digital input. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is an uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface that supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus 8-channel digital audio--all on a single cable. A set of front composite and S-video inputs make hooking up a game console or camcorder a snap.

Other features include HD Window dual-tuner POP (picture-on-picture) with PIP sound for listening to two programs simultaneously, the new Radiance DC lamp with high brightness and lower power modes for extended life, individual audio/video settings by input type, sleep and wake timers, Real Speed progressive scanning to create smoother diagonal lines, Color Transient Improver for sharp transitions on color changes without bleeding, and Color Detail Enhancer to maintain fine image detail in color saturated areas.

Aside from the 20-watts-per-channel stereo speaker system, the 52HM84 uses MTS for programming with stereo sound, SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language. Meanwhile, SRS WOW combines 3D Sound (simulated surround sound from any stereo audio) with TruBass (yet another low-frequency enhancement) and Focus (which clarifies voices). Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's D-EJ100 augments its great sound and extensive features with a stylish, blue, full-circle exterior. And at a mere .94 inches thick, this Walkman lives up to its name, traveling with ease in pocket, purse, or backpack. Playback options include 32-track programming, repeat (track, disc, or program), random play, and an amazing 50 hours of playback from a pair of standard AA batteries (not included). A clip-on remote makes it easy to operate the player while you're on the go, and Sony's "h.ear" clip-on headphones are designed for streamlined comfort.

"Active use" is a key phrase for this player: Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. The D-EJ100's heat-resistant lid helps protect the player against high-temperature build up, especially when you're using it outdoors or in a vehicle.

You can hook the player up with your home system through an analog stereo "Y" interconnect. Should your music require it, the Walkman's Digital Mega Bass Sound engages digital processing to enhance your music with deep, authentic bass tones.

Bookmark playback lets you program your favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button, and Sony's automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) conserves batteries--and guards your hearing--by capping your listening level at either of two settings. The player may be used with optional AC/DC power adapters (AC-E45HG or -E45A) or car accessories (vehicle power cord: DCC-E345 or -E34CP, car kit CPA-9).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD Player
Those of you who are looking for a really good portable CD Player, I would recommend this one. The sound is VERY clear and crisp, and the volume has a nice range that can go pretty high. I like the little clip-on controller that comes with it. I was confused at how to hook up the controller at first and there are no intructions anywhere on it in the owner's manual (that I could find), but I finally figured it out after awhile. So for those of you who may be confused also, you connect the controller into the earphone jack and then connect the earphones to a jack that is on the back of the controller. This is a very nice CD Player and great for the money, too, I think. I don't think you'd be disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect printer
My husband and I went to Aruba on our honeymoon with our new digital camera. After shopping around for approximately a month, we decided to buy the HP7760 mainly because of the 1.8" LCD screen - no computer necessary.

The guy at Best Buy told me I needed a USB cable, which is true, but it is not necessary unless you are printing from your computer. He tried to sell me a $30 one; I went to Walmart the next day and got one on clearance for $12.

The printing is absolutely wonderful! The colors and hues are so rich, it looks like you are there in person. The blue sky is as blue on the picture as it was in person! Same with all the other colors! I have not run into any problems with little stars or black lines appearing on my pictures, and since I installed it about two hours ago, I have printed more than 50 4x6 prints using the HP Premium Photo Plus glossy paper. The prints are instantly smudge-proof, but take longer time to dry if you want to put them in an album (especially the ones with the dark colors). I feel the quality is equal to that os lab processed prints. I took a picture of the sunset one day and the oranges and reds just jump off the picture at you.

I also haven't had any problems with any paper jams or "ink failed error" as some other reviewers have complained. The tray can only hold 20 4x6 cards at a time, so don't overload it and you'll be fine.

I also liked that it came with two ink cartridges, one color and one photo. After 50-something pictures, the cartridges are still going strong. I also bought a black cartridge and color cartridge (a combo pack at Best Buy for its sale price of $39.74, regularly $53) and a gray photo ink cartridge along with a second photo cartridge. In addition I bought the HP plus glossy and matte paper (haven't used the matte yet)

One word of advice (and it tells you this in the manual): When you place the paper in the 4x6 tray, make sure the side you're printing on is down and the perforated edge is toward you. I made the mistake of putting the paper in backward and had a couple prints come out with a white stripe on the end where the perforated edge should have been.

This printer is great for the price and ease of use! No complaints whatsoever!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great choice for a novice
I ordered this printer to go with my new digital camera and found it simple to install and get started. I was able to print a great photo immediately using the sample paper provided. It is terrific quality and rivals 35mm prints from the photo finisher. If you are looking for a reasonably priced photo printer with all the extras this is a good choice. Printing direct from camera cards with out turning on the computer is very handy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer - paid $129 at Costco
Best photo printer I ever have owned. Easy set-up. Quick printing, great colors, love the little LCD screen that shows the picture as it prints. Reads directly from compact flash card; no computer needed. Ink and paper are expensive, but I'm worth it.

Downside: paper path a little convoluted but no problems. Perfect companion for my Nikon CoolPix 5400 digital camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Printer
I just received the 7760 in the mail today.
I had to run to Walmart because I forgot to order the USB printer cable. After I hooked the printer up to the computer which took about 10 minutes ( includes the unpacking of the printer ). I took out all the pictures that I had and WOW the quality is unheard off. I mean the pictures are just so clear and pure quality. The printer pretty much started on it's own.
Just plug everything and put the disk that came with it and It does everything on it's own. Ohhh and then I tried photo paper.
Ohhh man it just got better from there.

THIS IS THE PRINTER TO GET.!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Printer!
Received the printer and had it up and running in less than 20 minutes with no problems. Makes beautiful prints that are as good as any professional printing I've had done. The ability to edit at the printer without having to download to the PC first is great! It's very easy to use and I've had no paper jam problems of any sort. Since I am not really technical and don't like to read pages and pages of instructions to use new equipment, I believe this speaks highly of this printers ease of use. ... Read more
