Amazon.com Product Description

Featuring a progressive-scan DVD player combined with a four-head hi-fi VCR, this Toshiba SD-V392 dual-function unit delivers the crisp resolution and enhanced sound of high-quality DVDs paired with the ability to record your favorite programs and movies on VHS tapes. The unit flexibly interacts with a number of audio and video formats, including DVD-Video, DVD-R, video CD, audio CD, and CD-R/RW, along with MP3- and WMA-encoded formats and JPEG digital photo CDs. Like other versatile DVD players, the device also offers a selectable display format, which delivers a choice between interlaced or progressive scan depending on whether users own a HDTV-capable TV. Progressive scan displays images at a higher scan rate for a sharper, richer picture, while interlaced is the standard for traditional non-HDTV televisions.

The VCR is equipped for most common and high-end functions, featuring a program timer, 30-second commercial skip, and even the ability to watch DVDs while recording a TV show. The VCR's hi-fi stereo is bolstered by its built-in MTS decoding, which delivers a clearer audio performance. The DVD player is also compatible with a variety of enhanced audio functions, as its coaxial and audio digital outputs connect to Dolby Digital- and DTS-capable receivers for rich surround sound. The player also supports virtual surround sound, creating an audio environment that broadcasts simulated full theater sound over a two-speaker system.

The system connects to other components through its component-video, S-video, and composite-outputs, along with the aforementioned digital audio outputs. The player includes a 54 MHz/10-bit video DAC and 192 kHz/24-bit audio DAC, and comes with a full-featured remote control.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad Bad BAD
I bought this machine 9 months ago (not at Target). Hooking it up with cables caused it to "blink" on some channels. I went back to the store where I bought it and a clerk there told me it was probably because it was hooked up to an older TV and the tuners were incompatible. I bought a new TV and it did the same thing. This time a clerk in the store told me I needed to hook it to the TV with RCA cables instead of a regular cable. This worked fine except it didn't work for playing the VCR so I had to connect both ways. Then the dvd player quit playing through the RCA cables so I disconnected them and went back to using just the regular cable. Now the only way I can watch TV is with the player turned off. The DVD player started giving me problems with movies from Netflix. It would freeze, not back up, sometimes not even read the dvd. When I would put in one of my own, unscratched dvd's it worked ok so I figured it was just a problem with the well used dvd's from Netflix. The other night it froze and wouldn't back up with a brand new dvd. Tomorrow I'm buying a new DVD/VCR combo and I will NEVER buy another Toshiba product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Buy this unit!
This is more of a love hate kinda thing. First I love the fact that it records and plays DVD's that the same time! The only other unit I have found that does that is an Apex. The picture is great both in tape and DVD. Now for the bad! The remote control, its white with black (with is OK) and orange thats right orange lettering with is hard to see when trying to use the unit at first. Also its not a smart remote, ot only works for the unit. Other than the remote it's a great unit, it has all the bells and whistles.

1-0 out of 5 stars DVD picture freeze
I have owned this machine 11 months. About a month ago the DVD picture would freeze. The manufacturer attributed the problem to a dirty or stratched DVD. I purchased a new DVD and the problem persisted. Seems this is a recurring problem with all brands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly as advertised
I was scared off of Sony and Panasonic by some of the reviews, especially stories of the DVD door problems and the poor service. The specs for this combo DVD/VCR seemed to include everything I wanted. I almost passed on this one too because the dimensions as shown were too big for my cabinet. But I checked the Toshiba web site and found that the dimensions as shown on the Amazon page were incorrect. I notified Amazon and they have corrected the dimensions. I bought it and so far am quite happy with it. The remote has far more buttons than I have ever seen, but the manual is quite thorough. The set up is simple and the DVD door opens and closes quite smoothly. Everything I tried so far works. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Memory Stick Pro - Not Compatible with Older Sony Products
If you have an older Sony product and are thinking about "upgrading" do more memory do yourself a favor before dropping a "C" note on this product. Check Sony's memory stick compatibility web page at http://www.sonystyle.com/intershoproot/eCS/Store/en/imagesProducts/memcompatibility/index.html.
I didn't, and found out the hard way about in-compatibility after purchasing and trying the "Pro" stick in my older camera ... caveat emptor.
My nephew is now the proud owner of a 1GB memory stick ... it works in his camera. Now I have to decide to either buy 8 of the 128MB (the largest memory compatible with my camera) or consider a replacement camera. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love Them!
They perform exactly as I had hoped... they help keep the iPod earbuds securely in my ear. Speaking as one who isn't really into the acoustics end of it (I just want to listen to my music without static), these earjams offered a noticeable improvement in sound quality over the included iPod earbuds.

I just wish that after the initial purchase, there was an option to purchase additional ear pads only, in specific sizes (as I use the small set and have lost one of those already). I guess I'll just have to spring for a new set.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy them if you enjoy pain.
"Disappointed" isn't a good word to describe my feelings about this purchase.I think a better term would be "tormented".If you look at these closely, you'll notice the serrated edges which attach to the ear buds. This is a grievous design flaw. These things hurt.I'm average-sized, with average-sized ears. After about ten minutes of wear, the serrated edges slowly begin sinking into the tender flesh of my ears.It doesn't matter how good the music is, I'm unable to ignore the pain.

Admittedly, there is a modest improvement in the sound quality (compared to the stock iPod headphones) when using these, but it doesn't justify the extreme discomfort they cause.Do yourself a favor and get actual earbud headphones. They'll fit (drastically) better, sound better, and the difference in comfort is the difference between a featherbed and a bed of (sparsely distributed) nails. If you've already purchased an iPod, you've spent a lot of money on a music listening device.Don't blow the listening experience by buying cheap serrated headphone covers that cause you pain.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Don't buy them , unless you have extra large sized ears. They're too heavy and too large. The smallestrubberear pads still won't fit comfortably in my ears.

I use myipod primarily when walking several times a week. They won't fit snugly and are constantly falling out and have started to irritate myears from the constant reinsertions.

I've stopped using them and will buy something else. Very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars They stay in your ears!
I had a terrible time keeping the earbud in my ear until I got these. They also work well to direct the sound into your ear so that you don't need to use as much volume to get excellent sound. Griffin also supplies a nice little case to hold you ear jams and headset. If you don't like things in your ears, you should get a "muff" type headphone. I love these little guys!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded expectations!
When I got my iPod for my birthday, I was a little put off when I noticed that the earbuds included were the wrong shape for my ears; I walk home from school down a hill through the woods, so they would fall out every few seconds.:-(I needed a solution that wouldn't cost more than my allowance and birthday money could handle, so I decided to try these out. After reading a lot of other reviews, I was worried that they would make my music horrible and mucky, but when I fitted the EarJams into my ears and played some of my music I was very impressed. They don't alter the treble quality enough for me to notice or care, and the bass gets a really enjoyable boost. It also amplifies the earbuds so that 50% volume is about the loudest I would be able to listen to comfortably--VERY good for me, considering how embarrassing it is to be sitting in English class when you realize everyone else can hear your music blasting!

These are a purchase you really shouldn't pass up, especially if your ears are messed-up like mine and can't handle earbuds.Even if you were blessed with normal ears, heh heh, I would still recommend this product because of the great improvement in sound quality and volume. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Digital Camera, Incredible Value
The DSC-P200 is an amazing piece of technology that demonstrates how far digital photography has come. With a 7.2 MP resolution, 3X zoom, lithium ion battery and a 2" LCD screen squeezed into a tiny package, this camera is truly amazing. The output is no less impressive with quality superior to that of any other camera I have seen.

One of the advantages of a camera this small is its ability to be carried in your clothing without relying on an external carrying case. While this is a great attribute that allows you to bring it to parties for impromptu photos, its apparent fragility is a cause for concern. It would be nice if Sony provided a glove-like camera case or entirely different, ruggedized housing. Of course, many third-party camera cases are available along with what Sony offers, but even the smallest of these will be too large to fit in a shirt or inside sport coat pocket.

In addition to its diminutive size, the camera's portability is also fostered by the lithium ion battery which lasts for nearly two hours. Moreover, with a larger memory chip, you will have everything necessary for a day or more worth of shooting. At the full seven megapixel resolution, photos average about three (3) megabytes each. This means you can store only about ten photos on the included 32 MB Memory Stick, making memory a necessary upgrade. By comparison, my 512 MB Memory Stick allows me to take over 150 maximum resolution 7.2 MP photos. Fortunately, it can be purchased for approximately $55 at Amazon.

Even though I am not a professional photographer or artist, I can definitely appreciate the picture quality. I had the opportunity to directly compare the Sony DSC-P200's quality to that of a Minolta 5 MP camera taking the exact same photo at the same distance. The pictures of a friend and me were taken by a waiter in an upscale restaurant with relatively low lighting. At first glance, they appeared to be of comparable quality. After closer inspection, however, it was clear that the Sony image was superior. In one striking example, the shades of my burgundy shirt were more accurate with less pixilation.

For the amateur photographer, be aware there are many features to be deciphered. As a former engineer and gadget enthusiast, I consider myself a quick study. Yet, I had to spend a couple of hours reading the manual and still have some learning to do. So, don't buy this camera on the way to your daughter's wedding and expect to use it (besides, the battery will be dead anyway).

Many casual photographers may question the need for seven megapixels as this exceeds the resolution of even the largest monitors. For example, a high-end WUXGA (1900 x 1200) wide format monitor only has 2.3 megapixels. However, the camera's superior resolution provides a hidden benefit. Even if you don't want to create large format photos or posters, it does allow for a convenient "off-line" zooming. So if you are at sporting event or show, you can take photos of scenes even too far with 3X magnification. When editing the images on your computer, you can crop the part of the photo desired to effectively zoom into the image you wish to save or share with you friends.

As a Sony Vaio owner, I have the added benefit of being able to slip the Memory Stick directly into my laptop without having to worry about cables or additional drivers. It would be even nicer, though, if Sony provided some sort of wireless connectivity, such as Bluetooth or WiFi. I can see why Sony would skip this feature as current wireless technology would not be sufficient for transfer of several high-resolution photos.

The video capability is a nice frill even though it would not be a key reason for purchasing this camera. I was quite surprised that it produced quality video AND sound recordings. The latter was far crisper than I ever expected. With two gigabyte chips available in 2005, you could record full motion video for nearly 80 minutes. This sounds great, but the camera doesn't record moving scenes very well. Presumably, this is due to internal bandwidth limitations. On this note, it would be nice to provide HDTV video recording, even at a lower frame rate. This would be quite a stretch due to bandwidth limitations/data write speed as HDTV cameras, geared for the professional market, are very expensive.

In summary, the Sony DSC-P200 is an incredible piece of technology that provides tremendous picture quality in a small package. I can't imagine wanting more out of a camera other than a ruggedized housing or high resolution HDTV video, which is quite unrealistic given its size and cost.Given the camera's intended purpose, Sony has done an amazing job. For still photos, the DSC-P200 should be good for a decade or so.

Pros
7.2 MP
Incredible picture quality
Lithium Ion battery
Compact

Cons
No glove-like case
A bit complicated for recreational photographers
Delicate (potentially)
32 MB of standard memory
No Bluetooth

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Quality Camera
I resisted "going digital" for a long time. When I finally took the plunge and compared cameras, the Sony DSC-P200 was the standout.Consider this:

The P200 has a metal case -- not plastic.

The lens is a Carl Zeiss -- the same German optical firm that makes lenses for Hasselblad and Leica.

The P200 is made in Japan by the same Sony subsidiary that makes the professional digital Betacams used in Hollywood.

The design of this camera deserves an award - the placement of the buttons, shifting of the lens to the extreme left side - the result is a camera that "feels right" -- never do I touch the wrong button, or have to search around for the right function.

The photos?I shot Macro, fluorescent, incandescent, cloudy, and bright sunshine -- exposures were excellent and the 7.2 Megapixel Super HAD sensor produced images that did not pixelate until I had enlarged them to 200X!

I bought the Sony DSC-P200 (and I recommend getting a 512MB memory stick -- you can get 130 images at the highest quality setting) and the two of us have been inseparable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Weak point
I liked the little camera, but the batttery compartment door jamed and broke off the first time I opened it.I'm looking for something moree robust.Sears refunded without a hassel.

5-0 out of 5 stars One great camera!
This is a great Compact and solid camera. The picture quality is phenomenal. I love the manual settings options and the beautiful pictures it takes in auto mode. It starts up super fast and is so compact there is no excuse not to take it everywhere. Thank you Sony!

5-0 out of 5 stars great camera
I love the quality on this camera. The Carl Zeiss lens really makes a difference.Pictures for which there are no moving objects come out crystal clear and the camera was made to feel solid.
I'm happy with the USB 2 interface and I really love the compact, yet powerful camera that Sony has made. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars practical and easy to use
let's put it this way, if you want to store all your music in your ipod ( and when i say all your music, i mean ALL), thenthis ipod mini is not for you, 'cause as you guys know, this ipod mini only holds up to 1,500 songs (6gb). Now,that's a lot of songs if you ask me, that's an entire week of music, i love classic rock and i filled my ipod mini with all of my favorite songs, you know how cool it is for me to take this everytime i go to the beach or if i'm having some company, i can just press shuffle and enjoy without the hassle of getting up everytime, you know to change cd's??, so if you're looking for something that's not that expensive and just want to have a good time and easy to use then i recomend this little item!! Respeta a un varon!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding MP3 player.
I began looking into an iPod purchase over a year ago, and was almost sold on the 4th generation iPod.I liked the colors of the mini and was okay with 4 GB of storage (though that was a tad on the small side), but the main thing that deterred me from the mini was the less-than-desirable 8-10 hour battery life.

Then the 2nd generation mini was released.Apple seemed to fix and improve every little thing I had held against the original. They made the colors brighter, increased the hard drive space to 6 gigs, and most importantly, at least to me, increased the battery life two-fold.

The 18 hours that Apple advertises is EXTREMELY conservative. If you're content listening to music and don't need the backlight for more than a minute or two every hour, the battery can run for about 24-25 hours.I can go a week and not have to worry about recharging my battery.I could listen every waking moment of my day and never have to stop and recharge before I went to bed. It's a wonderful thing.

The blue is very bright and pleasing to the eye--I've seen the pink and silver versions and they too are visually appeasing.6 gigs is nothing to shake a stick at--on the contrary, I've found that 6 gigs is just about the perfect size for someone who has a vast number of interests musically but doesn't have thousands upon thousands of CD's to rip and upload.Unless you have literally hundreds of CD's in your collection that you plan on putting on your iPod, I'd recommend the mini, since you'd more than likely end up with half the space on your regular iPod sitting unused.

Despite the fact that the iPod scratches easily, there are several cases which work extremely well...I'm partial to the ones made by Power Support, though you have to import them from Japan.Uploading your songs is quick and easy.Navigating the menus takes about 15 minutes to master. There's really nothing more I can say that can do the iPod mini justice.

I will make a quick note and add that I'm not an Apple fanatic.I think that Apples are good computers, but I'm still attached to my PCs.However, when it comes to MP3 players, there's really no comparison; it's going to take many many years before Microsoft or any other competing company can put out any MP3 player nearly as nice as the 2nd generation iPod mini.

Also, if you have a friend that's a teacher in a school, look into the education discount on the Apple website. It ends up being 20 or 30 dollars off.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!(after I survived setting it up)
I just got my 6 gb mini for my birthday.I also got most of the accessories as presents, too, so I don't have to worry about forking over the cost of the mini itself for them (seriously, mac).I AM IN ELECTRO LOVE!Wow, and I think this time it's for REALS.:-)I am coming fresh off the iRiver boat (funny how they use the "i" in front of their name, too), and have been extremely pleased with my little 256 mb player... and I do mean LITTLE.BUT, I am extatically (word invention there) adding album after album on my iPod as I type this.Yeah, it's kinda annoying to convert WMA files to AAC, but they do the work for you.I love the organization, I love the style, I love the size, I love the balance between form AND function.I do feel like I've just joined a cult of iPod users, however.Oh well, not as bad as Mormonism

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Buy This!!
Let me start off by saying that I was amazed at how small this thing is. I bought the IPOD MINI.When I got it and opened it up I was amazed at how small it was. It was crazy small!Plus it holds around 1,000 songs.Right now I have about 500 and it's a little over half-full on the memory. I got a 4GB IPOD MINI.So, there is plenty of memory space for lots of songs. The software was easy to install.I thought it was tricky figuring out how to select songs and actually put them on the ipod. But after a while I figured it out. Also the volume on the ear phones is amazing. I almost blew out an eardrum by accidentally turning up the volume! The only problem i've had so far with the ear pieces is that the foam ear pads keep coming off the earbuds.NO biggie though.I would recommend getting some sort of case to protect this thing since you've already paid $200 bucks what is another $20 to make sure it's safe! There's plenty to choose from.Charging is it easy, you just plug it into the usb port and it automatically starts charging it.I have a computer so it's no biggie. If you don't have a computer with a usb port its gonna be tough finding a place to recharge it.I haven't tested the battery life yet, but it seems to be ok.Probably more than what i need.Lastly, I was a little worried that the songs would not transfer over to the itunes software. I have lots of songs that I got elsewhere :) I hoped they would transfer over to the other software and they did. They also sound great, the play fine. It's not a problem at all. Now i have over half of my music collection on this thing. It's a really great product.5 stars!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice design; awful sound quality
This is an interesting headphone design that works to keep sweat out of the headphone mechanism, but the sound quality is unbelievably bad. I thought the stock iPod earbuds were bad, but they sound worlds better than these. No bass at all.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice fit but lasts only 90 days
These headphones fit well and are much better than the ear bud styles. Those never stay in place.I also like how they collapse, and are therefore much more portable to take the gym.

The downside I have experienced is these phones have lasted me about 90 days and then stop working.

I use them almost daily on the treadmill and can feel the sweat building up.It appears that the sweat eventually shorts out the earphones.

I do like these headphones for overall performance and cost.I keep several on hand, knowing they won't last very long.My issue is they unexpectedly stop working, usually in the middle of my workout, and must finish my workout on the treadmill in silence.

I will try the behind the head version as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweat!
On my 4 mile jog this morning I was thinking I should come back and post a great review of how these headphones have worked so well. Then a big drop of sweat landed in my ear and created this popping noise everytime the earphone created a seal in my ear canal and then broke the seal.I had to take the headphones off for the last mile since it was too annoying.

This is my third pair of headphones in my quest for the perfect jogging headphones.I'm starting to think there is not a "perfect" set out there. These have come the closest of any. They stay in place which is huge. They sound OK.The sweat wasn't a problem until today (which was my 3rd time jogging with them).I guess I needed to point it out since they advertise a sweat guard mechanism.I sweat ALOT, so it doesn't surprise me that this feature doesn't work quite right.Maybe I sweat inside my ears??

For the price, I think these headphones are worth the attempt to see if they work for you and your excercise pursuits.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for runners
These headphones are really designed for runners. They have strong and light adjustable frame, never slip off, fit nicely, sound is good and the price is right. Unless you have some very special requirements, you can't be wrong with buying these phones.

5-0 out of 5 stars the perfect headphones for the runner who hates running
Let me unequivocally state up front: THESE ARE THE BEST SPORTS HEADPHONES I'VE EVER OWNED.

And note the key phrase here: SPORTS headphones.I've owned better headphones, sure. But would they stay on my head after 10 miles on the treadmill?NO.

Some of the reviews for this item completely puzzle me.They complain about the aesthetics of the headphone or the lack of perfect sound quality.

These are SPORTS headphones. They're designed for the StairMaster or running down trails. They cost $14.Check the label: "SPORT HEADPHONES with SWEAT GUARD mechanism."And to that end, these are five star headphones.

This is the third pair of sports headphones I've purchased.Previous headphones fell off while running or became clogged with sweat. The clips didn't fit snugly around my ears, or they quickly broke, jammed in my gym bag.And so I evaluate the Sony MDR-A35s based on the following criteria:

1) When I'm running, do they fall off?

The answer to this is assuredly "NO."They fit well, are adjustable (even on my oversized head), and never fall or slip, even after 10 miles. They fit over the head, instead of just around the ears.

2) How is the sound?

The sound is good. The snug fit assures that the music is always playing in your ears, and the sweat guard assures that ear pieces never clog with sweat. Is it PERFECT sound? No.But who needs perfect sound on the treadmill? You just need music in your ears, the distraction from the awfulness that is excercise.

3) Is the design sturdy?

Yes!Perhaps the best part is the collapsable design. You fold them, wrap your cord around the headphones, and jam your in your gym bag.The compact design almost ensures that short of stepping on them, you will not damage or break these headphones.

I can't praise these headphones highly enough. These aren't everyday headphones. These are headphones designed for the gym or the track. And if you're using them elsewhere and expecting more than they promise, then I'd recommend the Sony MRD-EX71 earbuds. But if you're a gym rat or you just hate exercise, then these are the headphones for you. ... Amazon.com Product Description

The Sony CPA-9C cassette adaptor allows you to connect your minidisc or CD player to a vehicle cassette player. While this Sony product works best with Sony CD and MD players, the adaptor will operate with non-Sony products as well. There are a couple of key features to this adaptor which make it a fine choice. The first notable feature is the spring-loaded head. The head will automatically adjust itself to your vehicle's cassette deck, ensuring that the two heads have optimum contact and transfer the best possible sound. The second key feature is the silent mechanism. A silent mechanism yields less operational noise and a better quality MD or CD sound. This adaptor works with all cassette players which require you to insert the tape opening facing the side. The mini-plug inserts into a portable CD or MD headphone jack. The cassette adaptor is a cheap way to make your vehicle CD and MD operational.

4-0 out of 5 stars Puts an FM transmitter to shame!
I had my choice between getting an FM transmitter or this tape adapter. I chose the tape adapter, and havnt looked back once. The product works great and sound quality is very, very good.

One small glitch I experienced was when i used it on my car sound system, it was very very low until it adjusted, then all of a sudden started blasting the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Expensive, But Worth It
I decided to buy this cassette adapter for my Sony D-E220 portable CD player. It works great, I haven't had any problems with it yet. It works even better than I expected. Everytime I use when riding in my car I get room-filling sound as you would expect from a top-quality brand. It also comes with a long warranty, labor for 3 months and parts for 12 months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheaper is Better I LOVE this thing
I brought this for my sister. First I had mixed feelings. Everyone told me just to buy her a new Stero system. (I have done that but now I have hers.) When I brought it she didn't like it at all. Then she tried it. It works great. The sound is perfect, and I didn't have to buy her a holday gift. She then gave it to me when I brought her anew system. Now I use on my desk. I love it. I can listen to FM, AM, Phone, CD, Tape, and AUX. The sound sounds AWSOME for EVERYTHING.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its worth the money...
recently, i bought the "sony car adaptor" for my vehicle, and i had mixed feelings. First of all, people complaining about the bass must have a Mp3 set up problem, because even with the bass turned off on my "diskman", it still sets in strong. The sound is decent, but you gotta turn your volume control all the way up to get it to blast loud enough. It also dosent seem like its very durable. But all that aside, if you need a cheap way to play CD quality tunes through your cassette deck, this is the one

1-0 out of 5 stars better adapters are apparently cheaper
i bought this unit out of a best buy. i chose the more expensive sony name because my previous adapter's wiring was becomming faulty, and i thought i could count on the name to deliver a better product. turned out to be a bad idea.

not only is the previously-mentioned dull hum noise absolutely mind-numbingly frustrating after about 5 minutes of play, but the volume is so low. the treble is way to high, and the bass portion is bearly audiable, even when messing around with the mp3 players controls or the deck's controlls manually. turning up the volume on the deck only makes the humming get louder. turning up the volume on my mp3 player does nothing but waste battery life. other people have said that you can't expect so much out of a tape deck, but out of the 3 cassettee adapters ive owned (the others being cheaper and lasting for at least a year) this has definately been the worst.

this is the first review ive written, but i had to contribute after this disappointment. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sony DCR-HC21
The Sony DCR-HC21 camcorder comes with an AC adapter, a power cord, a wireless remote controller, A/V and USB cables, a shoulder strap, a rechargable 1-hr battery pack and software.

The camcorder is fairly easy to operate and understand, although I was disappointed with the lack of information in the manual that comes with it. The software that comes with the camera is garbage. I am currently using Ulead's MeadiaStudio Pro 7.0. Windows Movie Maker 2 is also a good choice to capture videos. I strongly recommend the use of a firewire cable in order to be able to capture the videos efficiently. Another advantage of using a firewire cable is that the programs then give you more options on the quality of capturing your videos.

That being said, the Sony DCR-HC21 camcorder is definitely a good buy for people who want a simple point-and-shoot device and there's a whole range of functions and settings for the more curious ones out there. The camcorder's not-so-ergonomic shape sits well in the palm of your hand but isn't too comfortable when used for an extended period of time. The power switch could have been placed a little ahead of its current position, which I find is too close the the recording button and isn't always easy to operate. The LCD touch panel screen is large and easy to operate. The menu settings are fairly easy to understand and the manual can be used to provide an explanation of each setting. The zoom toggle switch is sensitive and takes a bit of getting used to. Alternatively, users can use the zoom buttons located on the LCD panel, beside the screen or the remote. The difference is that using the latter two options, the user will find that she/he is able to zoom in and out at a slower and more gradual rate than when using the toggle switch. There is an Easy Handycam mode which sets the camcorder for optimal shooting conditions and allows the user to start shooting without the fuss of having to set the camcorder up. In this mode, however, the user is unable to access most of the menu settings, therefore limiting the control she/he has. The Nightshot Plus mode is my favorite. I took a video of my snakes feeding in pitch dark conditions while standing 1.5-2.0 feet away and the quality of the video was amazing. The picture was sharp and clear and focusing was not an issue with the Carl Zeiss lens. While using the Nightshot Plus mode, I was able to shoot subjects that were 6-7 feet in front of me in pitch dark conditions. While the subjects did not appear as vivid as my snakes, the overall picture was clear and in focus. The 20X optical zoom is good and comes in handy when shooting subjects that are far away or if you desire a closer look at something small as in a snake's teeth ;) I haven't used the viewfinder for more than a few few minutes because I find using the LCD screen is a lot easier. The viewfinder can be pulled outward but I find this hard and frankly it feels like its going to come right off sometimes. There is a lens adjustment lever located on the right side which can be used to achieve picture clarity while looking through the viewfinder. The mic which is located on the front of the camcorder, just above the infrared port is very sensitive and is able to record with great clarity and quality.

The remote commander is a great little accessory that comes in handy when you have your camcorder mounted on a tripod. The battery supplied is good for anywhere from 40 minutes to 105 minutes depending on the type of recording (continuous/ start-and-stop, using the zoom function and turning the power on and off) as well as the use of the LCD screen versus the viewfinder.

I have not talked about the camera function on this camcorder because I don't really use it. The camera records an image with 7 sec. of sound. I'm not really sure what the advantage is and I'm not too keen on using it as I already have a Canon Powershot A70 that I'm quite happy with.

Overall, this camcorder is an excellent choice for the user who wants something compact, easy to use with the option of having a wide variety of settings to play around with. The price is reasonable and I would recommend this camcorder for a beginner or for someone who just wants an upgrade.

4-0 out of 5 stars Imporant Experice 2 be shared
Video Quality : Excellent.
It is User Friendly & Compact
CAUTION : Drawback of Sony HC series camcorders
Software supplied to tranfer video is pathetic. Search internet for horrible experiences faced by owner of HC series camcorders.

USB cable is only to transmit images. If video is tranferred quality is very very bad.

If you have SONY memory card and SONY note book it is very compatible else THINK twice before buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive quality
This is my very first camcorder and I decided to go with a middle of the line one after I read some reviews. We tested it out yesterday and even displayed what we taped on a huge TV screen and the quality is amazing.I was worried about sound quality, but this little camcorder packs quite a punch. It's easy to use. I almost don't even need the manual.Add to that the fact that it's small enough to carry everywhere with you. I'm overall impressed and very happy with my purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware Of Sony
My little advice - Beware of Sony. The quality has decreased over past years badly and customer service and technical support is very bad too. Not to mention the warranty plans and costs to fix things. I just owned a nice handycam DCR-TRV19 that died after one year of seldom use. Something that is obvious factory defect (since many people experience exactly the same problem) costs more than half of the camcorders price to fix at sony service. I advise you to have a look at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6142-0.html?forumID=59&threadID=53316&messageID=1064984 and see for yourself how Sony treats their customers.
Once again, don't be blurred by pretty design. The inside is piece of crap.
Sincerely.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
Really great camera, which I'm very happy with.I don't really have much else to say which hasn't already been said.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Camera!
First of all, let me say that I am NOT a camera bug or a photographic expert (neither digital nor film) so this is a new learning experience for me.I am very impressed with this product.
It delivers professional results and is easy to use.Newbees like me can get great results with the AUTO mode, then when you have the time to do so, you can experiment with the manual settings for custom results. The nice thing about digital (with a computer) is that you're not throwing away expensive materials (ie film) in order to learn. You can just delete your failures and try again. When you get a pic that looks printworthy you can either print it using your PC or you can connect the USB cord (supplied) directly to a photoprinter (if said printer has a standard called PICTBRIDGE). There are many settings that you can control (ISO sensitivity, EV, White Balance and other settings that shutterbugs are familiar with) or you can set it to AUTO and let the camera set it up for you.It uses JPEG format and you can get much detail setting it to 4 megapixels but these pics turn out BIG (almost 2 megs). If you don't want your pics that big you can set them down to 3.2, 3,1, or VGA and they still look very good, but they are smaller and easier to store. The camera is about the size of a bar of soap and fits very easily into a pocket. You can also take "webcam" type movies. The documentation comes in print and on the CD and is excellent, going into much detail on how to use the manual settings for best results. My only disappointment is with the Photo Editing program that comes on the CD.This program dosen't offer much for editing your pics on a PC (no problem for me though.I have PhotoDeluxe). If you have a good editing program that came with your printer (or scanner) you might want to use it instead.I think the software included with this camera is more suited for HandyCams (video cameras).
The camera has 32 megs of onboard memory which allows you to shoot 16 pics at 4 MPs, 20 at 3MPs, 50 at 1 MPs and 196 at VGA.
It has a slot for a memory stick if you choose to buy one. If you do decide to buy one of these cameras, do yourself a favor and buy some rechargable NIMH batteries, because I'll tell you ( and anybody with digicam experience knows this) alkaline batteries do not cut it with this camera. It comes with 2 alkalines and I think I took all of about 12 pictures before they were WIPED OUT!I then tried some regular Everready alkalines I had just bought and they wouldn't even power it up.The NIMH's that I bought work excellent and last long in between recharges. So, all in all, would I recommend this camera?Absolutely!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome!!
An excellent no hassle, worry free camera that fits in your pocket and delivers excellent pictures. The Zeiss lens makes this camera awesome. I have had my doubts about digital cameras but this little gem delivers crisp, clean sharp images that exceeds the quality of my Canon A1 SLR camera. Very easy to use and download.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as small as I thought
Well, just got this camera 2 days ago.Used it quite a bit for my daughters swimming lesson this morning.
My old Sony DSC-S50 was just too big to be convienient and finally we upgraded to this newer model.

Photos - excellent.I used a 2.1 MP for so long, a 4.1 really is a lot crisper.Cropping in photoshop leaves a much better image now.
Video - excellent.Memory Stick Pro on FINE mode makes for excellent video with sound.Sure does chew through the space though.512 MB stick holds just 6 minutes of video.

I dropped a single star because I was thinking this camera would be about the same size as the L1, but it really is quite a bit thicker. It still fits in your jeans pocket, just not as slim as I was planning.
We'll keep it - maybe upgrade in another couple of years. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It really is a great product.
I love the Sony company, and I love this project. It does everything that it says it does; it has a ton of storage and importing pictures is really fast.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trust SONY!
I own the Cybershot P93, and I needed more storage capacity, so I bought the Sony Memo Stick "PRO" 256MB, I have to say its reliable, durable & fast in processing, storing & accessing...

And there ain't much difference in price from the unoriginals types like Lexar or Sandisk.

The memory stick looks cool & its Made in Japan! Actual capacity it offers is 220MB as the rest 36MB are necessarily for system & data usage.

Be sure your Sony camera supports the PRO type of Memory sticks, as the older models lack this feature.

With the 256MB Capacity, I get:

3 hrs of low quality videos, 12 mins of normal quality and 3 mins of highest quality, which is more than enough.

As for photos, using fine quality, with 1MP, i can store approximately upto 380 photos, with 3MP app. 150 photos & with 5 MP i can store app. upto 90 photos.

It's great & with a reasonable price... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great iPod .....but
I bought my iPod Photo 60GB last week and it gave me a lot of problems from the start. I charged the battery for over 5 hrs until fully charged and 5 mins later the ipod was telling me to charge again saying the battery was empty.I got a new replacement within 3 days and charge the battery to full. The next day I was listening to my ipod for almost 2hrs & 15 mins and the battery icon was down to red meaning the battery was almost empty. This didn't make me happy at all when the ipod was suppose to last anywhere from 12-15 hrs.I will return the 2nd ipod I got from Amazon.Too bad....I really wanted to keep it, but with the battery trouble....I'm returning it.

5-0 out of 5 stars the scoop on the good, the bad, and the ugly
Apple Computer's iPod Photo: GOOD.

Getting sucked into an unscrupulous marketing ploy: BAD.

The flood of unwanted email, telemarketing calls, and faxes you'll receive after signing up for an "offer": UGLY!!

5-0 out of 5 stars sign up if you want junk mail "to the next level"
Don't make the same mistake I did! I signed up for one of those get-iPod-free "offers" that are continually being posted here.

Within one day, I received over 200 spam emails and 15 telemarketing calls. What a pain. I guess there really is something to the saying "you can't get something for nothing".

I hope everybody here will learn from my extremely bad experience and avoid these ridiculous pyramid schemes.

The 60Gb iPod Photo is a great gadget. It's too bad they're being used as bait by unethical people.

4-0 out of 5 stars The truth for prospective buyers
My wife bought me this for my birthday.I noticed that some of my cds were deteriorating, and wanted to digitize my library. My friends raved about this gizmo so she obliged me.Here is the whole story.

This is a marvelous invention, one actually fortunate consequence of our technology mania outside of the medical field. That being said, it has flaws. To use Apples Lossless Encoder which recreates cd quality sound, you will not get anywhere near 15,000 songs, more like 4-6000 max.Next, ITunes sucks.Pardon my crassness, but you need to have a mirror version of what is on your IPod on your pc for maximum enjoyment, ease of organization, auto-synch, or other benefits extolled by Apple. In short, if you have a huge library and would like to digitize and preserve the master copies in storage, take this into account.Itunes must be a revelation if you have a mini or a shuffle, but if you are condidering an IPod this large, it gets unwieldy.I had to buy a 100 gig external hardrive to send the music too (since I will probably get a new pc soon and don't feel like transferring the songs).

I am sure that any 5 year old or high school student can provide a go around or a better way to use technology, but if you are an audio-nut but not a computer-nut, this gadget is as close to perfect as it gets.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, not Perfect
"Yeah, its an iPod." Then you get to boast about the 60 GB and that wears thin pretty fast. But you have to admit its a damn good looking player. You've read the millions of reviews so I'll only bore you with my thoughts:

$450 and no case? The dock may have been low on the list of usefulness, but come on Apple... this thing scratches if you look at it hard. So the REAL price of this player is more like $490 after you get the required case.

It takes a day to get used to the controls. My wife was so frustrated she tossed it aside and never looked back. The controls are simplified to the point of complexity. Menu is power on (but not power off, that's Play/Pause) but its also back... You get used to it, but I wouldn't sell it as a feature.

The EQ is worthless. I found that ROCK works best and everything else sounds muffled or distorted. It's also a pain to browse EQ settings for the currently playing song. You have to navigate back a couple of menus then into settings then spin down to EQ. After selecting an EQ setting, you drop back to the settings menu. If you don't like that EQ setting, you have to go back into the EQ menu and start the dance all over. Why cant the EQ settings apply live as I spin down them? The song will end before you have time to try them all...

Everyone loves the touch wheel and so do I until you realize you don't remember the group, you have 7800 songs and the one you are looking for begins with a "Z". After about 15 fast laps around the touch wheel it does accelerate, but I wish there was a faster way...

The battery life for me is pretty much as Apple stated. I am concerned that sometime next year after the warranty expires the battery will go poof and die. Apple hasn't done a good job making people like me feel better about the longevity of an iPod. Still, I did take a chance.

I like the Album art when playing. When I used to play CD's (or god bless - my vinyl), I would always have the cover there with me to look at. Something feels more natural having it displayed.

All in all, if you can convince yourself that a portable music player should cost $450/$490 then this is definitely one of the best ones to get, even with its quirks. ...
