5-0 out of 5 stars Shoot, Finalize, Play, be Amazed.
I can't believe how easy this camera is to operate.

I received the camcorder last night and was anxious to get some test footage of my daughter before she went to bed.To save time, I skipped reading the directions and went straight to fiddling with the camera. With absolutely no difficulty or direction I was able to snap on the battery pack, plug the camera to AC power, pop in a disc, and begin recording my daughter's silly bed time antics.

Now it was time to play it in the DVD player.A freind had told me that you need to "finalize" the disc before you can play it in a DVD player. So, after a moment of hunting in the setup menu I found and selected the "finalize" option.A little whirring and a grave warning not to vibrate the camera, and a few minutes later the disc was done.

I placed the disc in the DVD player still believing this was too good to be true, but there it was.My daughter giggling and singing in 16:9 aspect ratio on my big TV, with no wires and no need to boot up my computer.Within 30 minutes of pulling the camera out of the box I was playing a freshly recorded movie without having to glance at the manual.I can't say enough about the ease of use.

And, the quality is top notch.I'm no expert but I have an older Sony Mini-DV and I've been exposed to home movies made on a number of different cameras. The picture quality on this one is as good or better than any video camera I've ever seen. But it was the sound quality that shocked me.

As I sat watching my daughter sing on camera I heard her singing in front of me.Then, I was startled to hear the sounds of my wife and I laughing and coaxing her comming from the surround speakers behind me.That's right, this thing records in Dolby 5.1 surround sound!

So far, I've only recorded two discs worth of material, and I haven't even gotten into exploring the more advanced features of the camera, but it does everything I want it to do.Incredible ease of use.High quality digital picture and sound. The only drawback I see is the $5-$8 price tag per blank disc. But as one reviewer mentioned you can transfer your movie to a much cheaper full size CD-R using a DVD recorder or your computer. Then you can reuse the same $8 mini disc over and over again.

Either way, it's a small price to pay for such a convenient and high quality product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wind noice is the killer.
When recording outdoor, even there is not much wind at all, this camcorder produces a lot of wind noise just like a thunder storm out there. I set the volume to low in the setup menu, but it does not help at all. The picture quality is good, the wide screen produces a very nice view on the 16X9 TV.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent hardware-- mediocre software
From a hardware standpoint this camcorder is excellent. Picture quality under a variety of lighting conditions including dim lighting is excellent. The quality of the still photos is also excellent-- I haven't used my digital still camera since I bought it. The only letdown is the very mediocre software package that comes with it. I'm surprised a quality company like Sony would bundle a $1000 high end camera with budget software. It's workable but don'w expect much more than very basic functionality.

This is the first miniDVD camcorder that has worked it out in terms of ease of use, reliability, and picture quality. Sure, in 2-5 years we will all be using blu-ray digital cameras that will hold 2 hours of HD video on 1 disk, making the paltry 21 minutes of high quality video (1 hour on low quality setting or 30 minutes on normal quality)seem quaint, but until then this one is it.

UPDATE-- I've have the camera a couple of weeks now. I'm feeling better about the bundled software--it turns out a lot of the bugs that I initially experienced using the software were due to codecissues and not the software itself. I actually find the software, although basic in it's features, pretty useful and stable. For those who want to edit their videos more extensively, Windows Movie Maker is free from Microsoft and handles the MPEG2 video format used by this camera very well.

The camera itself is a joy to use. I have found that 21 minutes of high quality video per disc is not as restrictive as I once thought-- having the power to edit my videos (ie cut out the garbage)makes that 21 minutes go a long way. And the media itself is not expensive-- I just bought 20 miniDVD-Rs online for $20.

Overall, a great choice--it gives me the option to burn my video right away and watch it on my DVD player at home, or if I feel like it I can download it to my computer and edit it and then burn it and watch it. Either way, a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camcorder with High quality of picture
I bought this camcorder about a month back. I finished recording my first DVD and the quality of the picture is awesome. This is my first camcorder and I am already in love with it. I have SONY DSC-T1 with 5 MP and now this camcorder has builin flash with 3.1 MP I am rarely using my DSC-T1 for taking pictures. I would say it is worth the cost. I suggest you buy it and you won't be dissappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars all the way!
Was shopping around for a camcorder for awhile, and was debating against a mini dv and or dvd camcorder.Panasonic even has 3ccd camcorders at a comparable price offering supposedely a better quality camera.I had my heart set on a dvd camcorder as I didnt want the hassle of transferring to PC and then burning to dvd.Knowing myslef, I would just never get around do doing it.So after having my mind set on a dvd camcorder, looked on the internet and there was the sony 403, the specs looked good but there werent that many reviews posted.

Decided to go with it, and I must say it is one fantastic camcorder, quality is great, low light is not that bad either.Built in flash for stills work great and quality still quality is great also.I have no need for my digital camera anymore. Is convenient to store both video and stills on the same dvd.

Havent used the software for editing yet, from the reviews ive read it isnt that great, but dont expect to to do that much editing. Finalizing the dvd creates an own dvd menu, again great feature.

Touch screen is A+, 16:9 recording works well.5.1 surround sound is great add on.Battery life on packaged battery gives good recording time.

I was skeptical of the only 30 min recording time on SP mode on the camera.mini dv's offer 60 min, but after recording a couple of dvd, you really don't realize how long 30 minutes is.SHould be ample for a standard home video. There is a setting at LP mode for 60 minutes, haven;t tried it yet, but will.My guess is that I won't notice a big difference.

Overall my opinion is that if your the average user, wants great quality footage easy to use, this camcorder is for u.I personally cant tell the difference between a 3ccd camera. It is pricey, but i think sony has set a new standard in DVD camcorders.

5-0 out of 5 stars can't beat the price
I ordered this printer in mid-November, and so far I've been very happy with it. It prints very fast and the print quality is excellent. For instance, you can print complete graphics with backgrounds and everything comes out clear and easily readable. HP has a good thing going with this product line -- we're all tired of changing inkjet cartridges and getting smudged prints, but who wants to pay $500+ for a heavy unit designed for office use (Brother, Canon, Epson)? This printer is light and easy to store, although it's not as small as you might think. Since the trays stick out, it takes a full corner of my home desk. Installing it was a little bit of a hassle since my computer (Win XP) could not immediately recognize all the installed drivers. So the easiest way to install it is to go through the "Add Printer" wizard.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer; shoddy 3rd party delivery from Amazon
Firstly, I'd like to endorse all the other positive reviews of the HP LaserJet 1012. I initially purchased this printer to replace a lousy Epson C82 inkjet that kept sucking up ink and clogging. The 1012 LaserJet is fast (7 seconds to start up and print), quiet, and produces excellent black and white documents. Couldn't be happier with it.

I wish I could say the same about Amazon's delivery methods. When I purchased this printer, it was unfortunately fulfilled through Office Depot. That meant a shipping charge (which originally hadn't been on the web page) and sales tax. Fine.

The trouble came when I found the printer for $50 less on HPshopping.com the very next day. I immediately tried to cancel my purchase on Amazon.com but found the order had been locked, even though no discernible fulfillment or shipping was in process. I immediately called Office Depot because it was obvious that they had not shipped it yet (there was no tracking trail yet via UPS).

Unfortunately, Amazon.com failed to provide me with any useful information that could be related to Office Depot. Their unfriendly Customer Service Rep didn't recognized my tracking Order, my name, or anything about my order. As far as Office Depot was concerned, I didn't exist. And yet, they were going to ship me a printer.

I had to wait 8 days for Office Dept to finally fulfil my order. Ironically, HPShopping.com delivered my printer 2 days later, a full 5 days before Office Depot got around to me, even though my HP order was made a day later (go figure). When I immediately took my unwanted printer to the Post Office to mail it back after calling Office Depot for an RMA number, I was a bit horrified to find the cheapest method of mailing the printer back cost $23.96. I plunked down the plastic and that's all she wrote.

I suggest skipping buying this printer from Amazon. There's no retail cost savings (it's $199 everywhere or less). No tax savings. Shipping costs to add in. And return costs if you decide you don't like/want/need the printer.

Go to the store and buy it there instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer, Unbeatable Price!
I got this printer on sale for about $150 delivered to replace an aging HP 5L. The print quality is excellent and significanly better than the old 5L. This printer is also exceptionally compact and fits nicely on the shelf of my computer desk. Overall, the printer is extremely fast and appears to print at the stated rate. I printed a 35 page document and had no problems with the printer slowing down. Setup is a breeze and took lest than 5 minutes. Feeding envelopes or indvidual sheets is simple as well; there's a small icon stamped on the plastic paper tray to guide your way. Alas the only downside is you'll have to buy a USB cable since one isn't included -- this is probably a non-issue since most free USB cables are usually too short. Bottom line, this printer works great for home and small office use. This is a wonderful monochorme printer for a college or high school student as well. HP quality at a rock bottom price, I don't see how you can go wrong. I highly recommend this printer.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK Little Printer
I needed a cheap printer quick and this one happened to fill the bill. The toner catridges are readily available, the print quality is all right and set up on xp was pretty much what would be expected from any printer. It even networked without a fuss.

Conclusion: If you need a cheap printer for not too demanding jobs this is one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fast but poor quality
I've just bought this printer to replace my old LaserWriter 4/600, which
was a cheap and compact laser printer (when Apple had them). I'm moved
from Mac to XP and connecting it to a PC is impossible and I had to buy
another printer. LaserJets are well known so I decided to buy one which
promises a good resolution --not a real 1200 x 1200 but at least a
promising 600 x 600 x 2.

However, when I printed the first page I was very disappointed because this
resolution is in fact much worse than my 600 x 600 LaserWriter and not much
better than a good ink jet printer. Why? With the 4/600 letter contours
looked rounded and crisp, while with the 1012 are jagged and fuzzy. No ink
dots outside letters in the 4/600, but lots of them in the 1012 which makes
a sort of halo around the letters (there is a noticeable shadow in vertical
strokes). Letter strokes lose their proportions below 10 pt and the
horizontal one in "e" (Times) is almost missing. There are in addition

distorted letters, some of them with bumps and even wrongly rendered (like
a bold omega). The result is ugly and a lot below one could expect from a
good laser printer.

By the way, the installation was smooth (with Win XP). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect second camera for hobbyists
I've already been the happy owner of a Sony DSC-F828 "big" camera for over a year, and still consider it perfect for my serious photographic needs.

However, precisely _because_ it is so big, it can be very inconvenient to bring along, and also very intimidating to potential picture subjects.

Enter the new Sony DSC-T7. I didn't realize just how _much_ smaller, or more precisely, how much thinner it is than all other digital cameras until I saw it in person. It not only fits in a shirt pocket, it fits in a shirt pocket _along_with_ a Treo or an iPod. Because its 3x zoom lens is folded, it does not protrude at all when taking pictures, meaning most subjects won't even realize a camera is pointed at them, let alone that it is zoomed in and high resolution. This greatly easy getting natural expressions in informal photos.

Next, the specifications of the T7 are better than those of othersimilar Sony cameras such as the T1 and T33 in ways I care about, such as doubling the number of pixels in the 2.5" LCD screen, including an auto-focus assist lamp, and USB 2.0 support without needing driver software when used with Windows XP.

One of my pet peeves about digital cameras is that they are not protected from the elements. The T7 helps this in two ways. First, its on/off switch is a solid lens cover. Second, the camera fits easily in the smallest size zip-loc sandwich bag, and can easily be operated while in the bag, providing serious dust and splash protection.

One further protection is needed, but easily handled. The LCD needs protection, which I provided by covering it with a sheet of screen protector plastic left over from an old PDA.

As you might expect from such a thin device, battery life is somewhat limited (about an hour of continuous use, set up for maximum brightness, continuous focus adjustment, and automatic flash. For that reason, I bought a spare battery, and since the charger is bigger than the camera, suggest other buyers do the same.

Similarly, plan on getting more memory immediately. The supplied 32M is good for only 14 pictures at top resolution. I settled for 512M, the largest I could actually buy at time of purchase, but would recommend the new 1GB size if available to you as you buy. The memory door appears a bit flimsy, so it seems best not to need to open it too often.

I bought this for my point and shoot wife to take on a week-long trip, and thereafter to have it with us whenever a shot might present itself, but not surely enough to carry the large camera, or in situations where keeping the large camera clean and dry might be an issue.

If you too are a serious hobbyist, do be aware of unavoidable limitations: 1) 5MP is good, but not as good as the 7MP of a few also (barely) pocketable cameras. I decided smaller size outweighed higher resolution, but you may feel differently. 2) F4 is 2 full stops dimmer than the F2 of my other camera, which matters quite a bit when the light is low, as does 3) the ASA maximum of 400, rather than 800. There's also 4) no place to attach a filter. For a second camera, these are all perfectly acceptable compromises, in my opinion.

Highly recommended as a second camera for hobbyists, or as a first camera for folks who want a very convenient and very high quality point and shoot camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Performance Within Class
The DSC-T7 camera from Sony takes the concept of portability to a whole new level. Remember the Motorola brick phones of the early 1990's? Well, that's how most of the other cameras currently on the market will leave you feeling once you've held the DSC-T7. This smallness however comes at a price; people used to larger cameras may take some time to get comfortable using this camera. I use a Canon EOS-20D for more serious photography, and switching to this camera for casual use almost makes me distracted due to its smallness. My wife however loves it.

Pictures have the typical Sony look to them: crisp, sure and accurate. Coloring is almost dead-on correct; however Sony's in-camera post processing gives images a dynamic boost which, while looking very good, may look slightly unnatural to some pros. But then again, there are uses and there are cameras. For a travel camera and casual shooting, there is simply no match for the DSC-T7. On the other hand, no one will use it in a studio for professional photography, which is OK as well.

I only wish that Sony were offering a carrying case as standard issue with this camera; it is a pity that they had decided to carry it as a separate item. It would be a shame to drop the DSC-T7 and have nicks and scratches on it. At least our box did not come with it, and here's hoping that Sony will at one point decide to include the soft case as a standard accessory with every camera.

Recommended: 5 out of 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Product is great, but Amazon does NOT equal to
In fact, Amazon's prices on electronics are generally pretty expensive, such as in this case. Right now, there are numerous Internet stores out there that offer this same camera for only around (...). Even after accounting for shipping price, the total would only be around . (...)That's some (...) cheaper than what Amazon sells for. Yet, Amazon is advertising itself as "Amazon.com equals low prices"?? Give me a break! It even pretends to care about being competitive in pricing by providing a link that asks customers to tell them of lower prices elsewhere. But even after you inform them of substantially lower prices elsewhere, there is rarely any reaction on Amazon's part. So this "low prices" thing that Amazon constantly displays is actually a charade. Don't let Amazon.com rip you off!!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you bought yourself a financial calculator during the 1980s, chances are it was this bad boy. Nothing has changed since its introduction--it still uses Reverse Polish Notation (RPN), is easy and versatile in programming, and has a thin, sturdy casing. Certainly, there's been newer, fancier calculators introduced since, but there's something to be said for the quality of classics.

The HP 12C's functions include all the basics--such as calculating APR, NPV, and IRR--and statistics are a snap. For students new to financial calculators, this is an excellent place to start. For the most part, the manual reads like a minitextbook, walking you through sample problems and situations followed by graphs and tables demonstrating the technique--and you can even check your results. The section on creating programs does seem to be written for the technically ignorant, addressing in detail how you could possibly benefit from using programs, but it'll still help you get the job done.

In general, it's a bit slower than newer models, just like last year's computer isn't as speedy as today's new release. On the plus side, it's just 3 by 5 inches and slips easily into a pocket. The bottom is printed with a few little cheat notes for common functions, which is nice for quick reference. The HP 12C's one-year warranty and available tech-support line offer reassurance this little workhorse will continue to be an industry standard for years to come. --Jill Lightner

5-0 out of 5 stars The only one calculator you'll ever need
Why would you buy a 1980's calculator? Because it provides the best combination of form and function.

While other calculators have gone high-end and become curiosities of mathematics and graphics, HP's customers do not want to let go of the 12-C, despite the fact that HP has more powerful calculators at a slightly larger price. Here's why I think:

Just the right set of features. The average Joe using a financial calculator needs no more than the HP-12C provides.

Sturdy and strong. The keys have a wonderful feel.

Fits in a shirt pocket.

Very reliable. They've had two decades to iron out any bugs.

Large user base. Most financial courses will use this as the calculator of choice

Buy this calculator, if you need a financial calculator. You will not regret it -- I daresay that it will still be around when your kids need their own calculators.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every MBA student and grad should get one
While I don't have an MBA, it's hard to believe that a calculator I learned how to use in 1987 during undergraduate business courses is still the standard for the quick calculating financial world. Any finance professional over 30 will know how to use this, and in a pinch, you might need to know how to use it. I know the TI-8x series has financial functions and the graphic capabilities may make those calculators worthwhile. But for most financial pros, if it can't be done on an HP12C, then you probably need a computer.

The RPN system isn't hard to learn (at a basic level it works similar to an adding machine), and the functions on this calculator take input and spit out output in a way similar to Excel (i.e. negative numbers for payments and positive for future value, etc.). I found mine the other day after not using it for a while and immediately used it for a discounted cash flow quick analysis I was later planning to do in Excel. It told me the on-the-fly answer I needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars The gold standard of financial calculators
I have been using my HP12C since 1985 and I won't give it up! Back in 1985 it cost me $150 ... now it's 1/3 the price (or less). I purchased a Texas Instruments BA-?? in 1984 which failed after 6 months (the buttons went bad). The HP has not failed in any way at all since 1985, and on top of that, the first set of batteries lasted 10 years! Yes, I did use the calculator a lot, and I can't explain how but the batteries lasted 10 years (and no one replaced them without my knowing about it).

This calculator has no errors. The other reviewers didn't understand that they were the ones with errors, not their calculators. They didn't find the proper settings, of which there are many with this calculator.

RPN is so foreign to most people that they can't understand why anyone would want to use RPN. If you use RPN for a little while, you don't want to go back. Also, the horizontal design of this calculator is unique and should be duplicated -- it makes it much easier to put on a desk and read horizontally across figures and make calculations. People who use vertically designed calculators don't know what they are missing.

This is the best -- do yourself a favor and buy the best!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what it used to be.
I bought my first HP in my first year of engineering school, about 15 years ago. Every calculator that I owned since then has been full RPN. I live in fear that HP will eventually give up this market.

Because I just entered the CFA program, and because the CFA exams only permit the HP 12c and some other non-RPN calculator, I recently purchased a new 12c last month.

Alas, the HP build quality is not what it used to be. Many reviewers argue that it's not bad, and it's not--it's better than a $20 Walmart special. However, I paid a lot more than $20, so I expect a lot more.

The screen display is twitchy (doesn't light up the right pixels from time to time) and the buttons are looser than they should be. Once I get the warranty replacement, the display problem won't be a problem anymore, but I shouldn't need to go through the warranty for an $80 calculator, or for a famous HP-12c.

However, if you want an RPN business calculator, this is what you're stuck with. It's a great calculator, but the build quality is miserable. Bottom line: if you need it, hold your nose and buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buttons in the wrong places

5-0 out of 5 stars If you know what you're doing, you'll love it
I've heard a lot of people say that this really isn't needed. Most of these people intend to use it for their PSP.This is not the only use for this card.If you have a Sony camera that supports high speed shooting, this card is a must. With that said, if you own a PSP, and you know what you're doing, this card is a must as well.Reason is, the slower Memory Stick Pro Duo, has a write speed at 15Mbps.The high speed card clocks in at about 80 Mbps.Yeah.Grab your USB 2.0 / Firewire Card reader for this one, it makes a HUGE difference.

The average user, however, will not care. They're probably using the 5 pin USB cable to transfer files, which comes in at about 10 Mbps. There is NO point in buying this card if this is the case for you.On the other hand, if you're like me, and crave the capacity of 1 gb for your psp, odds are you'll be using all 1000 mb of it.You have to go high speed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Fast
This stick is fantastic for high resolution photos and is lightning quick. Do you need the extra speed the MSX-M1GN gives you? Maybe, maybe not. But at least you have it when and if you need the feature. Highly recommend it for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, reliable
Sony makes two 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo cards. The one on this page is MSX-M1GN and it's labeled "High Speed," meaning it reads and writes using parallel connectors. The Sony PSP, among other Sony gadgets, supports this high-speed access technology, so you can use this card in the PSP.

But you don't really need the extra high speed.Instead, you can save money by buying the other Sony 1GB card, model MSX-M1GS (notice difference in the last letter), which is a "non-high speed" 1GB Memory Stick Duo.Both cards support MagicGate, Sony's digital rights management technology.(Sony's Connect online music store requires a MagicGate-compatible storage card.)

Let me emphasize my previous point: you don't need the "high speed" Memory Stick Duo, the regular Memory Stick Duo is fast enough for games, movies and music on the PSP.Paying extra for this "high speed" version (~$40 over the "S" version) if you only use it in the PSP is a waste of money since the PSP doesn't really take advantage of the parallel access technology -- i.e., it plays cool with the technology, but doesn't employ it.On the other hand, if you have one of Sony's latest digital cameras that support high-speed continue shooting, you may want to get this.

This is a fast, reliable flash memory card that will likely last a long time.I've never had any problems with Sony's flash storage cards.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good But Not Great
You can find a better deal with a 1.0GB Memory Stick Duo with either SanDisk or Lexar. Sony's memory sticks are very expensive against the competitors but they work best with the Sony products. I bought this for my Sony PlayStation Portable so I could store music, games, pictures, and music. One thing I learned is that you shouldn't get a high-capacity memory stick! One thing is that if you want to watch movies you have to convert your files to MPEG-4 which is so much more work! Another thing is with your CD's and stuff like that you have to convert them only to MP3 and ATRAC3 format. For pictures it has to be JPEG only which is another hassle. I have a card reader on my computer and guess what...it doesn't support Memory Stick Duo! It only supports MS and MS PRO. I've heard you have to buy a Sony computer to have a card reader with Memory Stick Duo capability. I am very disappointed with Sony with their new UMD and Memory Stick Duo. They should have added 1.0GB internal built-in memory so you can start downloading all those things instantly. The PSP should have also included a Mini-B USB Connector too because it's so cheap! I wouldn't recommend getting this amount of memory but if you store a lot of things and you have the patience to convert (you might need software for some of them) then this is a good thing for you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars life changing
The wireless revolution has seriously altered the way I work. It didn't seem like it was that big of a deal, to be able to work anywhere in the house on a laptop. And then I was home over Thanksgiving and tried my father's - it was incredible. So, soon after I had my own and I love it - I even ended up getting another one for my wife's laptop.

Whether it's browsing amazon.com late at night in bed, checking morning email in the kitchen while the kids run around, or being able to set up a writing desk anywhere in the house without worrying about an accessible internet port - the airport system is awesome. Even if you only have a desktop computer it's worth it - you can to put the computer in a place where there's no internet plug, without the 40 foot cord draping your wall to connect it. All in all, a wireless system may seem extravagant, but once you have one you'll wonder how you got by without it.

The airport card, along with the base station, allows you to connect several computers, even ones that don't have wireless cards in them (i.e., we have two laptops on the wireless system, and then one iMac that doesn't have an airport card is plugged directly into the base station). You can print, scan - anything - wirelessly, as long as those extra components are connected to the base station.

If you have a big house and the base station won't be centrally located, you may want to look into the antenna. I have a 2500 square foot house and the base station is at one end of it. I can get access from anywhere in the house without the extra antenna, though in one or two places it's a weak signal. My father's house, on the other hand, is over 5000 square feet and the base station is at a far end - you can't even get a signal on the other side of the house. However, he purchased the antenna and the signal is now very strong wherever you are. A warning - you should make sure your airport network is password protected, especially if you get the antenna. The signal will be broadcast through half your neighborhood and if not protected, people can get on and use your airtime, clogging up your bandwidth.

Make sure you get the right card! There's the airport extreme card and the regular airport card (I believe they are both compatible with either base station). Check Apple's website for direct compatibility between your computer and the two different cards. They are different sizes and will only fit in the right kind of slot.

One final word - I've heard from others that certain products from Net Gear or other wireless manufacturers accomplish the same thing as the airport card and base station for much cheaper. I can't attest to the validity of this, but it might be worth looking into. I'd exercise extreme caution, since if you go with Apple products it will be covered with tech support, even if it's more expensive. And putting third party hardware in your computer will likely void the warranty on your computer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Watch out, this does not fit an Apple iBook G4!
Recommend and rating, hard to say. My intent is to make sure that people don't make the same stupid mistake that I did! An Apple iBook G4 can only accept an "airport extreme" card. I suspect that most of the latest generation ibooks, powerbooks, and powerpcs and etc can only take the extreme card.

Do your homework beforing buying the M7600LL card.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adapter Comments
Just to clear things up a bit further on the adapter business. When Apple started selling Airport-capable systems and cards, the cards could be used with the CRT iMac or an iBook or Powerbook. Rather than build a special slot in the iMac that you could slide the card into, the card came with a little wraparound bit that had a socket on it which plugged into the iMac. If you were going to use the card in an iBook or Powerbook, you didn't need the adaptor, the card slides into a slot. I guess after awhile they decided to including the adapter was a bit wasteful if a large segment of the buyers weren't going to use it, so they made it an optional extra. The fact that their newer systems didn't need the adapter, and that sales of the CRT iMac were slowing down probably had something to do with it as well.

I've bought 3 Airport cards myself for various systems, and have been very impressed with the ease of use and reliability of the product.

5-0 out of 5 stars it works like a dream
I am a recent convert and just got a new 12-inch powerbook. The retailer who sold it to me was supposed to have installed the airport card themselves, but they did not. The airport card came separately and I decided to install it myself. Not only was it the easiest thing to install in the world, it began working immediately. I'm impressed with how non-technical you need to be and how smoothly you can just do all these things that I would never have dreamt of doing myself in the PC world.

1-0 out of 5 stars If only it worked
Switched to Mac? Switch back.

I built an 802.11b network for the PCs in my house. I set up everything and had it working and tested for a few weeks before tackling the Airport install. Since I'm not usually a Mac user, I thought I'd make sure everything else was working first.

Well, it was the right decision. 8 months later, my Airport card still does not work. I put it in our iBook, and it's recognized, but there is an error message that locks up all the wireless applications and configuration, so the Airport is useless. Yes, I have the right OS version, and I've gotten the latest drivers and applications, but nothing works.

I'll try again, sometime, but it's just really hard to get psyched up for hours and hours of beating your head against the wall, trying to get something to work.

Hey, it might work out of the box for you. If you have an older iBook, though, I'd prepare for a struggle. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
I bought this Sony camera at an Apple store a few weeks ago. It was expensive but I think it's worth it.

Pros:
-Lightweight: I bought this camera mainly for concert photography. It's light enough to carry around with you wherever you go.
-Excellent picture quality
-Great features: I love how there are so many settings to choose from. You can play around to see what works well for your shots.

Cons:
-No hole for tripod: This probably isn't an issue for many people. You should know it's not compatible with a tripod though. Then again, this is such a small camera. Why would the average person want to use it with a tripod? It's supposed to be an on-the-go type of camera.
-Battery: A full charge only lasts for approximately 85 minutes so it's a good idea to buy a spare battery if you're going to use this on long day trips. The spare battery is very expensive though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sony T33
This is a nice unit to carry in the shirt pocket. I hate the lack of an optical view, the LCD is NOT convenient for point and shoot type photos. Especially out-doors. This is a special purpose camera and is very good for posed in-door or nature shots. Also, in the practical use of this unit, it is best to crank it down to the 3.2 pxl mode, or other lower res. The close shots at 5 pxl are phenomenal, every detail of a product label for example is perfectly reproduced. Good toy, but I like my DSC-P73 for every day use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly nice
I own the DSC-F828 (8 megapixel) Sony...and do a lot of varied work, usually taking it everywhere. But it's a bit slow out of the bag sometimes, for a simple snapshot. Therefore I purchased this camera (the T-3 Euro version) as an adjunct to the big brother.

Frankly, 5 Megapixel appears a bit less sharp now that I'm used to 8 Megapixel ....and the lens CAN be a tiny bit soft focus in low light.Yes, there's relativly few manual adjustments, too.

Flash is not bad, works well as a fill in sunlight, a bit harsh indoors. But then I shot a lot of no-flash, as slow as an 1/8, handheld. It works well.Nice colors, too,

However, this little devil powers up FAST as I draw it from the Sony leather belt holster.Red Eye reduction, 3x zoom, *HUGE* view screen (really impressive for showing off to your friends what you just shot...), neat carry strap.

This thing is really HANDY....not as your ONLY camera but as the all-day, EVERY-DAY camera. It fits on your belt in as little space as a cell phone with the abilty to shoot all day long....

I bought a travel charger & spare battery (these can charge while I shoot), extra memory (came with a 32mb - I bought a 128, then a 256.You buy a 512.), and the nice Sony leather belt case.Look for a USB memory stick reader, like the wonderful SanDisk MobileMate MS (the size, literally, of a USB flash drive, i.e. keyring-able), and you're ready.

You can afford this.Think about it.Super small, excellent quality, out of the way...but ALWAYS there.Get it.Or, let me put it another way, "Can you afford less?".

PSWhat I REALLY like about this camera is that my big 828 scares the pants off my subjects because it's seen (to them) as "professional", yet no one runs away when I pull this little guy out.You can see the differences in their attitude right away.

I get more intimate pictures, with minimal quality loss, using this camera far more frequently, now, than the 828.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Compact Camera - The Shape of things to come
I bought this camera about a month ago and have been truly impressed.I know a bit about digital cameras having owned a few over the years and this camera presses all the right buttons for me.The camera is small, about the size and weight of a pack of playing cards, smaller even. The styling is great and the build quality is top notch. The camera has many features normally found on larger format cameras. The video quality is superb and nearly does away with the need for a camcorder for those holiday videos, works best out doors and in daylight. There is no set limit to video length except for the capacity of the memory card. A 1 Gig card holds about 13min of highest quality video, long enough for any take I can think of.The general picture quality is very good for a compact and the prints I've made to A4 paper are spot on.It is fast to start up and "reload".The LCD screen quality is the best I've seen on a compact. The macro/magnifying mode is a revelation, allowing for some "microscope" type close-ups.The interface is intuitive and user friendly. In conclusion this camera is perfect for the average user who needs a highly portable quality digital camera.Recommended upgrade would be a 512mb or 1Gig memory card for that high quality video.

3-0 out of 5 stars Photos not very sharp
For as expensive as this camera is, the photo quality is not superb. The pictures come out a little bit soft--not quite as sharp as a Canon's. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Underestimate This Program.
A number of reviewers have commented upon how easy this program is and, I suppose, in one sense it is, especially if you stick to using the templates. However, as one who has had occasion to work with "Adobe Pagemaker," this program can do sophisticated page layout and, as such, there will be a learning curve for the inexperienced.

But, the User Manual is good and there are good books coming out, like one from Visual Start in July, that will help people learn.

It is wrong to think of this program as a word processor "in competition with" Word."MS Word" is a robust word processor; "Pages," as its name implies, is a page layout program.Having also worked with "MS Publisher," the real point of comparison and not "MS Word," "Pages" far exceeds "Publisher" in capabilities and yet for relatively simple layouts is as easy as "Publisher" to use.

I have not as yet put any real strain on the program, but at first blush, on my Powerbook G4 1.5, speed of operations is just fine.Yes, as a few reviewers have pointed out, some of the palettes could be more elegantly combined. One tends to get a clutter of open palettes. But, these are refinements that will be made in future editions, I am sure.

Bottom line: If you want to layout pages with a lot of the sophistication possible in the more expensive "Quark" and "PageMaker" programs; if you want to be able to export your documents to universal portable PDF file format and print out beautiful documents; if you want to pay, basically, only about $40 for these benefits ["Keynotes," the other half of iwork represents another $40], then buy "Pages."

And, if you are a novice with respect to not only page layout programs but also to very robust word programs like "Word," don't expect that everything will be simple. You will have to learn, but you will be rewarded relatively quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars I almost didn't buy it....
I thought, "I have MS Office for the Mac, why do I need iWork?" Was I wrong!

Okay fine I suppose I don't really NEED it. But it is a great program, and worth the price. The ability to export my work as a .pdf file is worth the price by itself. The Pages interface is much better, cleaner than Word. And the templates are suprisingly useful. I created a web page by costomizing a template and exporting it as HTML. I twas easy and quick and the result looked great. Most of the people I work with are PC users and because they were unfamiliar with pages the web Page looked fresh, not like a modified copy of someone elses work.

I use my Mac for research mostly and the ability to save documents as .pdf files is very valuable as they are searchable. With Tigers ability to search the text within a .pdf I can now save my work as a .pdf and later find everytime a particular work appears in the fines I've created. This has made cross-refrecing very easy and fast. I now use a program called Pyramid to create a "mind map" of my work and create links from the "map" to refrences in the .pdfs.

I don't use Keynote as much. I t more visially appealing than Powerpoint and pretty easy to use. The ability to use Quicktime movies in the presentation is helpful and the ability to export as a Powerpoint file is nice.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great program if Microsoft can develop an imitation
Keynote and Pages, the two applications included in iWork, were flawless under the Panther operating system. The Keynote app has always suffered from its inability to share with PC users. Oh yeah, I know I can convert a Keynote file to Powerpoint, .swf, QuickTime, or PDF, but the problem is that, especially when converting to PowerPoint, Keynote loses all its buttery-rich goodness. It's a PowerPoint problem, I realize, but without a Keynote viewer, there's no way around it. Thus, Mac folks must rely on Microsoft for slide presentations if they don't want to lug around their Mac laptop.

Also, installing Tiger will mess up the purchased Keynote templates you have saved. Even reinstalling them won't help.

My humble advice is to wait a couple of years until Apple fixes the bugs in Tiger, then MAYBE think about using a Mac. Until then, I'm switching back from a Mac to a PC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big time winner!
iWork comes with two programs, Pages (a word processor) and Keynote (Apple's version of PowerPoint). Both of these programs are very simple to use and very effective.Without a doubt, there are better programs available, but their cost several hundred dollars more and for the average user don't provided more bank for the buck.

When I first turned on Pages I thought "How cheesey!"But as I got to using it I found my first impression was totally wrong. It's simple appearance is very deceptive. This is a word processing program that can do everything that is needed for ordinary personal documents and beyond. You have to be willing to explore the program to discover its gems, but once you learn were things are you will find it a very fast and easy to use.The real value of the program is its desk top publishing. The 40 some templates let you create profession grade newsletters, journals, resumes, invitations, marketing brochures, and many other kinds of documents. This is worth the price of the software alone. It seamlessly works with your iPhoto, iTunes and iMovies. This is one powerful piece of software. With it you can produce commercial grade color brochures or newsletters at an entry level price.

Keynote makes wonderful multimedia presentations, and like Pages is seamlessly integrated with iPhoto, iTunes and iMovies. If you are using graphics or want to import photos into your presentation, Keynote is significantly easier, quicker, and simpler to use that PowerPoint. You can't miss with this program. You can even save you presentation as a PowerPoint, Quicktime, or PDF file or post it on the internet for all to see with the easy of a single click.

I have used both Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and keep them on my hard drive but rarely use them.As my skill with Pages and Keynote has grown I have found them to be more than sufficient in producing quality documents from personal letters, teaching handouts, to professional grade overhead presentations.
For the cost, iWorks cannot be beat! And you will not be disappointed.

iWork `05 System Requirements

2-0 out of 5 stars Pages is a disappointment
I had high hopes for Pages, Apple's new Word Processing Application, but these hopes were shattered once I tried to design a newsletter with it.

I find the interface unintuitive, unlike most Apple software, and the templates are not easily customizable. What's more, the application continues to mysteriously "erase" work that I have done, even after I have saved it.

Apple, I know you can do better than this... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple solution with great design/aesthetics
OK, this is a splitter. You can buy a cheap one anywhere but this one is well-made. The design matches the iPod well but it's functional as well. The black circle is a rubberized material with ridges that provide a good place to hold the splitter while you plug or unplug headphones. It works great.

I bought the splitter to use with a laptop playing DVD's while on vacation so that my wife and I could both listen with headphones (extremely important not to wake kids, especially while trying to enjoy a quiet moment on vacation). It works well on the plane too where you must use headphones to not disturb other passengers.

5-0 out of 5 stars SWEET!!!!
This thing is sweet, it works great to play your ipod through your stereo!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars IPOD RETURN POLICY is sorta SHORT!!
Okay. Here is a write up, that I did, on the comparisons/contrasts on MP3 players. Mainly, the Harddrive versions (I.E. Rio Riot/Apple IPOD -both of which I own) and the flash memory type... (I.E. Memorex 3642 Mp3 Player, of which I own as well).
What prompted this little jaunt (of which you may send to as many people as you like) My $499 Apple IPOD died during a sync last month. Just me copying files over to it, and the battery ran out of juice. I would have not attempted to copy music had I known the battery was low, but the battery read FULL STRENGTH. Anyhoo, I called Apple, they said return it for maintenance.

I did. Sent it back.

They returned it, still broke.

To my suprise, there is only a TEN DAY return policy.

TEN DAYS.

I did not realize this at all... and it was a costly realization.

So, after a month or so of messing around trying to find another MP3 player... I decided to go with a flash memory MP3 player, the ones that use memory sticks.

SO, here are the pro and cons of these devices.

Pro's for the Memory Stick Mp3 players

-Cheaper. WAY CHEAPER than Hard drive types.

-If you go into music match and file convert to MP3 Pro and shrink the size of your MP3 to like, say 3o percent... you can really make a good Kompression. Example. My Memorex MP3 player has 32mbs of memory on board. It is expandable to 256mb. 32 mb will basically let you put one cd's worth of music. It is easy to put music on and off of them, due to your computer reading the USB as just another hard drive, so you drag and drop to put on, delete them to take them off. But, after you shrink your files to MP3 Pro 30 percent, you can put twice as many. So, basically a 256mb chip will allow me to put 208 songs on my little less than palm size MP3 player. And it wieghs like 3 ounces.

- More on memory. These little chips are the size of the upper part of your thumb, at least my thumb anyway. They come in 128mb, 256mb, 512mb and even though there aren't any MP3 machines out there to handle them YET, you can even buy a 1.5gig thumb size chip thingy. Considering the size of the chips and the shrinking kompression I told you about earlier, I could shrink my whole KOLLEKTION down to 10 of those 1.5gig chips. At the current shrink rate I am at 5 DVD's, which are way bigger and more fragile than these little chips.

- Not as fragile as hard drive type. You can drop one of these chips and not scratch it. I wouldn't stomp on one with my foot, nor get one in water, but they are encased in plastic. Ruggedish.

- Batteries last for like two days. There isn't much going on here, no moving parts, no laser or hard drive to put power to. Most of these flash Memory types have a single AA battery. I use a rechargeable type, so we are talking very low cost here.
In comparison to the hard drive types, where you will get a solid 8 hours of playing, this really whupps up.

- Size. Small. Very small. Mine is three inches by three inches. A square. But, you can get smaller ones. And the memory chips that go in them are the same ones you use for your camera. And you can put files on them. If you want to put a word doc on your memory chip, you can. Your Mp3 won't recognize it, but it is nifty storage.

COMPARISON/CONTRAST

- Size does matter. In the case of hard drive Mp3 players... lets face it, you can, if you so chose to, put a library of congress on these monsters. They are the caddilacs of the hand held devices, and guzzle batteries like gasoline. But when it comes down to it, size is the only thing they have going for them. I don't mean to downplay the hard drive types, but don't drop them, don't shake them, and after shelling out $499 to Apple you might consider insurance. Apple doesn't care about you or your apple after 10 days of ownership.

- Price/Komparison. IPOD ran me $499 bucks. My memorex MP3 player ran me 45 dollars. The 128 memory chip runs you 50 bucks. Owch. There really isn't a comparison to the two. The memory stick Mp3 players just kick butt on this issue. And, you get MORE than a ten day return policy, since you buy these things at Target/Wal Mart etc...

So, that is my review in a nutshell
*************************************

Not completely sure why I am getting such a roasting on this review. I am only reporting what happened to me, and how I bought another product and compared the two.... I am not trying to change anyones mind, but letting someone know what happened to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars not just for the ipod!
This is a simple minijack splitter that takes one female 3.5mm stereo minijack and turns it into two! Wallah! You can use this anywhere a headphone jack exists. Use it on your laptop computer, your discman, walkman, mp3 player, even the soundcard on your pc - it doesnt matter it's just a splitter.

In typical monster style the splitter is made of the highest possible quality and offers excelent performance. It's also stylish, although it is made to fit with the iPod/iBook design scheme.

Bottom line, this type of splitter is ideal for gadget finatics and people who travel a lot and like to bring along thier music (unless you dont ever have the need to share). With this you can allow two pairs of headphones to be plugged into one discman, laptop, mp3 player, etc.

If you've ever wished you and your friend could both plug your headphone into your laptop so you could BOTH watch (and hear) a DVD on a bus trip this is the solution.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great.
This is ideal for the new iPOD you want to share with a friend. As usual, the sound quality on the Monster product is superior. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy for more than emergencies & good sound quality
When I was a kid growing up in New Jersey my parents had this radio in the kitchen (that they bought through their Gulf credit card) that seemed to get every band in the world. We used to love to listen to the short wave at night. But the radio really came in handy for its weather channels when the power went out during thunderstorms. We also boated a lot, and the NOAA weather radio broadcasts became as important a step in planning for an outing as packing the sailbags and filling the cooler with ice.

Now that I live in the midwest, I live through wicked seasonal thunderstorms that often knock out the power. I also find that our tv stations' weather reports are useless for two reasons -- they cover too large a broadcast area, and they tend to hype the weather for everyone, even if only one part of the state is being affected. After this most recent round of thunderstorms and flooding I decided to get a battery powered radio that gets weather radio channels so I can cut through the tv hype and get specific local information.

I had an Amazon coupon, and decided to buy this radio for two reasons. First, unlike other radios on Amazon, this one shipped for free, which made it equivalent in price to other radios with fewer features. Second, even though the tv weather coverage around here drives me crazy it is nice to know that I can tune into the tv channels if I want to when if the power goes out.

Now that I have the radio I have found (like other reviewers) that I use it for much more than emergencies. The radio is so small and handy that I keep it near my desk and use it to get a quick weather update in the morning. I also listen to NPR throughout the day, which I wouldn't otherwise do unless I'm in my car. (Is it me, or did we learn in the big hair generation that a tricked out stereo is the only radio worth having in the house?)

I have two minor complaints about the radio. There is a lot of interference with other electronics on the weatherband channels. I also have to crank up the volume on those stations to hear anything. As a result as I have to carry the radio around the room to get a good weather reception spot. And as I do so, I have to endure these really loud waves of interference until I find the right spot (ow). But this is only a minor annoyance. If it weren't for that I'd give it 5 stars. My second complaint is that while the radio is on, it displays the frequency and not the clock. You have to turn off the radio or look at a different source to get a time check. These are only minor annoyances, worth living with for the price.

There are also two features I didn't really think much about when I bought the radio that I now use all the time. First, I use the standby feature (which on most other radios would be called an alarm), to turn the radio on every day right as the afternoon NPR broadcast begins. If left to my own devices I never remember to turn on the radio at the right time. Second, I also use the sleep feature a lot -- if I walk away from the radio, I know that the radio will turn itself off and not wear down the battery.

I like the sound quality -- even the AM stations are pleasant to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great performance for the price!
I needed a radio with great AM sensitivity and portability. I checked out a number of radios and found the GE 7-2887 Superadio III to be the best, but the size was just too big.

The AM sensitivity of this Sony unit is great! I live in a mountainous region of Arizona and use the unit mainly to listen to talk radio. The daytime AM station is almost 100 miles away and most radios have difficulty even picking it up. This one shines! I attribute this mainly to the larger than normal internal ferrite bar antenna and decent circuitry.

The speaker is large enough to listen at volume, without distortion, and with very good tonal quality for a 3" speaker. I did not notice distortion at "normal" listening levels, nor did I expect to have stereo sound in a radio of this price range.

When listening to AM I use rechargeable batteries. They last 60 hours on average.

FM sensitivity is also very good when compared to other units I tested. The digital frequency readout also appears to be accurate, a problem that often plagues cheaper units. Due to my remote location I could not verify the selectivity of the unit (ability to separate strong radio signals that are close to each other in frequency).

The radio seems to pick up weather stations that have at least a moderate signal. Weak signals simply will not be heard. The unit also has problems with selectivity on this band as even a moderate signal (mine is 30 miles away) washes over onto all the weather frequencies. This is not a problem for most folks, but would be a concern if you live mid-point between two transmitting weather stations.

As "over the air" TV reception is not possible in my area this feature could not be evaluated.

The shuttle style tuner, clock, sleep and activation timer is a great plus!

Bottom line... this is the best portable radio you can buy in this price range!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Radio .....but NO PLUG included!!
Buy this radio-- but buy the plug along with it!!!
I love these Radios w/TV sound reception!! (great for the office, kitchen, bathroom, BLACKOUTS!!) I've owned others- a Sony, a GE and a hand held portable/transistor - so I've got a lot to compare.
This radio is VERY nicely designed--compact and portable; easy to read and set. Sound quality is VERY clear and it's nice to have the sleep timer and push button tuning (MUCH better than to fish for the stations on a dial).
The color: "putty" is a bit outdated. (Black would have been better), but it'll do.
All and all it's a GREAT little radio!!!
But....here's the disappointing news....There's NO adaptor included!! NO way to plug it in.
WHY??
You'd think those adaptors would be the easiest thing to include. (how many old ones have I thrown out??!)
Anyway, it says that you HAVE to use a 4.5v adaptor (and of course what's left in my junk drawer are a 3, a 9 and a 5.5v).
So now I have to figure out where to pick up this adaptor!
And that's why it only received 4 stars!
Also--I don't remember being prompted by Amazon to make this additonal purchase when I added this item to my shopping cart. (...Hint to Amazon...)

Anyway, just be sure to purchase the adaptor when you buy this radio and you'll be a happy camper (these TV/radios are GREAT for camping, too...)

5-0 out of 5 stars great value radio
This is a great radio for the price. It's size and shape make it convenient to carry around and the reception is fabulous.

3-0 out of 5 stars Look elsewhere if you need Weatherband...
I received this radio from amazon today and am happy with it except for the faulty Weatherband. (It's the tuner that's bad: all 7 weather channels tune to the same frequency, and none of them well, compared to my smaller, cheaper, older Radio Shack Weather Cube). Sony's technical support was of no help whatsoever, referring me to NOAA's frequency guide on the web. Weatherband shortcomings aside, the radio fits perfectly on a narrow ledge (like a window sill); the 3-inch speaker sounds great for its size, and the five presets per band are adequate for me. The TV channels perform well, too. ... But for $40 or less, it's a good value and performs well (except for the Weatherband, which could be a defect only in the radio I received). Made in China, by the way, not in Japan. ... Read more
