Awesome portable radio
I needed a portable radio that was effective and had great quality. I'm happy that I chose this one. The Sony SRF-M37V radio is a lightweight wonder. It's so small and can fit in your pocket and can clip onto your belt.

This radio is awesome. The quality of the sound is very good. The digital tuning and the preset buttons are very convenient. The TV channels are also a nice feature (for local channels up to channel 13).

This radio looks sleek and very nice. It's also very nice in that it doesn't waste batteries. It only takes on AAA battery and lasts for many hours on that.

At first I thought that this radio was {too much} but it's a very good deal. You get a durable and reliable radio that you can use while working out or just chilling. When the radio is off the digital display tells the time, which is very convenient. You can take this Walkman anywhere, and it's great for private listening.

Better Than Most
I purchased this for use when walking my dogs. I wanted digital tuning in a small package. I tried the SRF-M37V along with several other similar radios and found it to be the best.

Pros:
1)Small and sturdy. So light you will forget you're wearing it.
2)Excellent battery life. I am using a basic Walgreens battery and it has lasted for weeks.
3)Sound quality. Even with the base headphones that others here have criticised, this unit has excellent sound.
4)Lock out button so you don't accidently bump the unit and lose your station.

Cons:

1) Presets buttons are the same size and shape as the weather band button. When walking, I often will accidently hit it when I try to go by feel rather than having to look at the unit. The band button is slightly smaller and thus avoids this problem.
2)Reception is good, but not great. No other unit was measurably better. AM was weak at night, stronger during the day, FM would fade in and out a bit from time to time, and the weather band is very low volume. TV band is all but useless where I live.
3)Digital display isn't backlit. Hard to see at night unless you pass under a streetlight or use your flashlight.

In summary, it sounds good, is fairly inexpensive, is durable, and easy to carry. Give it a try!

Sony SRF-M37V Walkman
Worst reception I have ever had in all the various Sony headsets I have purchased over the years.

Just right for the purpose
I use walkman-type radios a lot. I have had several different ones over the years, including fancy Sangeans. None had any better reception or sound quality than this one. (I use Sony earbuds with an inline volume control.) None has even come close, in battery longevity. I use rechargeables, and having to carry only one spare cell in my pocket is great: the others require changing two batteries. I particularly commend Sony for leaving out the stupid, useless, bulky self-contained speaker that many others have. This is one of several good experiences I have had with Sony products in recent years.

Decent Radio, A Bit Overpriced
This is a decent radio, albeit (at least in my opinion) a bit overpriced. Size is great, and is the main reason why I am giving it 3 stars rather than 2 stars (headphones fit comfortably as well). FM reception is not as good as AM. I don't mind that as I enjoy using it to listen to talk radio. I would not recommend this radio if you want to primarily listen to FM. A perfect example would be the fact that I live in Rhode Island approximately 150 miles from New York City. When I want to listen to Yankee games, I can't get the Rhode Island FM station that broadcast the games, so I have to listen to WCBS-AM out of New York City. ... Read more

don't buy this nootbook
I read the comment about the fan noise this computer has, but I didn't care and bought this computer anyway. I just got this laptop today and the first thing I noticed is how ridiculously loud the fan is. I have a Dell laptop, but I can't hear the fan on my Dell's even when I press my ear against it. I called Sony's Service Center, they told me that alot of customers have called them complaining about the fan problem and a investigation is underway, but I am so pissed off right now because this product has a blatantly defective fan and Sony has failed to pull it out of the market.
Honestly, the fan makes so MUCH noise that this computer is not even worth buying.

Awsome Notebook
I got this notebook (one generation back - the S260) and it's great! The widescreen is absolutely beautiful and it's light, powerful and has a good battery life. The only issues I have with it are that it does not have a DVD burner and it lacks (at least the s260 model) bluetooth. Also there's no keyboard light like the IBM thinkpads have. Other then that, it has everything I ever wanted in a notebook! I highly recommend this product. Also, thier support is GREAT. 24/7 support and onsite assistance. I've already used thier support once, and I was truly impressed (and it takes a lot to impress me).

Awesome
First, I have to say that I have a customized S-Series notebook from Sonystyle.com and not this particular configuration. It's more or less similar, though. I have more RAM, a DVD Burner and Bluetooth. My wife bought one last month after a year of laptop envy and is equally pleased with her configuration. Point: the core components here are solid.

I have personally never owned a laptop that was consistently as reliable as this one. Yes, there is fan noise but it's nowhere near as loud as some reviews make it out to be. To answer another reviewer: there are 2 USB ports and 1 Firewire port. I benchmarked all the hardware using Norton Utilities (yeah, yeah) and everything but the speed of my DVD Burner came up with excellent ratings.

The Xbrite monitor technology is great for using this laptop under high sunlight conditions outside. I also use it for Photoshop and feel that, despite its size, the 13" screen is ideal compared to the pixilated, grainy appearance of most other LCDs. My only major complaint about this laptop is that it does not have a DVI output for connecting it to something like an Apple Cinema Display. It does, however, have a standard RGB monitor output that works fine.

The chassis is light and very sexy. Along with the new Sony T Series latops (midget versions of the S series) I can honestly say there is no better slim notebook for Windows users. I also own a 12" Apple Powerbook G4 that I use for travel and, despite its reputation for being the sexiest of the ultra-lights, I still much prefer my Sony S.

The Intel 2200 Wireless Lan is really great for using wi-fi hotspots. A friend has a lower end Intel Wireless LAN and can rarely even detect hotspots that my S-series simply connects to automatically.

If you mainly want a light computer for wireless internet, iPoding, running business apps and editing digital photos, the canned configuration offered by Amazon.com will do fine. If you want to really trick out the guts of one of these, go to Sonystyle.com.

One word of advice I can offer to anyone interested in any version of this laptop is: buy the extended life battery (sold separately.) It's worth every penny. My G4 goes through two whole battery cycles in less time than it takes my extended life Sony battery to run down once. It's like the energizer bunny on steroids.

fan is problem
This is one of the best laptops I've had....BUT...the fan can drive you crazy! I cannot take this to the library because people might think there's a race car in the computer - that's what it sounds like and it's constant and annoying! Sony says on their support site that the issue is "under investigation" so I didn't want to wait for the results and returned this beauty...

Questions for owners
Two questions for current owners of the S-360 only:

1) A reviewer listed it as having only (2) USB 2.0 ports but the specs list (3). How many?

Not perfect, but plenty servicable - and RPN!
I'm a very long-time HP/RPN user (even had an RPN calculator NOT made by HP - National Semiconductor!) and have quie a few of them lying around. I really liked the 32SII, but I lost one, and another is sometimes deciding to ignore keystrokes. And I have a few 48-series (way too big and too much for my needs), and an 11C.

The 33S is a reasonable attempt at a 32SII replacement. The styling is unnecessarily cluttered and more than a little strange, but it's functionally darn near identical to the 32. The teeny decimal point is sub-optimal, but I can see it well enough. The functions assigned to the big keys under the display seem pretty arbitrary - I can see the modes and display settings - but a giant key for ENG display? The 'enter' key is small and inconspicuous, and in an odd place. And the meta/superscript-keys are just about impossible to see, particularly the purple right superscript.

All that aside, it works, and it keeps RPN alive, and I'd probably have to quit rocket science and instead go work in the food service industry if I had to use algebraic calculators again.

It remains to be seen if it would pass the drop test, and how long it lasts. It seems solid enough and certainly more sturdy-feeling than the usual POS TI and Casios. It's well made and everything fits the way it should. The keys are hard plastic as God intended, and the key action is slightly stiffer than the usual HP, but very secure and so far I haven't had a missed keystroke.

I think it's also an excellent value for about $50.

Overall, I'm reasonably satisfied.

The best scientific RPN calculator currently available...
Because it's the only one available, unless you want to fork over $200+ on Ebay for a HP32SII (even used). This calculator is essentially the 32SII in a different case a with a few minor additions. It has an algebraic mode as well as RPN, but the only reason you should buy this calculator at all is if you want to use RPN. In fact, if you don't want to use RPN, you can stop reading now.

The keyboard is... interesting. I'm not sure what HP was going for with the funky chevron; I think it looks a bit funny, other people think it looks cool. Functionally, the keyboard works well. The plastic keys feel good, and though the non-uniform shape may be a little disorienting at first, I got used to it fairly quickly.

It is programmable, but only in a very limited sense. The increased memory compared to the 32SII is not useful, because only 27 variables exist (A..Z, i) with which to use it. Programming the 33S, like the 32SII, is more like assembly language than anything else, but the manual describes the process very well and gives many examples of what can be done with it. Also, it's very difficult to keep more than one or two programs in memory because there are also only 27 available labels. If you want to make or use complicated programs, consider the HP48GX (also RPN).

It can perform definite integrations, and given an equation in one variable it can solve for it numerically. It does not do polynomial root finding or solutions of linear systems, though these functions can be programmed. It can handle complex (imaginary) math, but it reduces the 4 level stack to only 2 levels, and requires a few extra keystrokes. If you're doing lots of complex math, again, the HP48GX is a better choice.

It also comes with a very nice leather slip-on cover. It's not as beefy as the hard plastic covers you see on most calculators these days, but it should protect the calculator against minor dings.

The manual is very thorough with lots of explanations and examples of all the calculator's capabilities.

The bottom line is, buy this calculator if you want a small, simple, easy-to-use RPN scientific calculator. It's particularly good for engineering. Minus one star for the programming limitations.

What a shame
I recently received a 33s. I've found the display completely unusable, not only is the decimal point ridiculously small; the numbers are not spaced as well as earlier models, exacerbating the problem.

I don't see how anyone is the design group at HP could have found this acceptable...sent it back the same day.

Small decimal point makes it unusable
Before you buy an HP 33s, key in 22.22 and see if your eyes can spot the decimal point. It's about a half of a pixel! After making numerous mistakes because of this bad design, I ordered an HP 49G+ Graphics calculator with beautiful, clear characters. So if you have eyes like spiderman, you'll probably be happy with the 33s.

A great calculator
I had a 32SII for years. It met with an unfortunate accident some time back. Imagine my excitement when I read about the 33s!

Well, first off, let's get the display issue out of the way. Yes, the radix mark is tiny. Very tiny. Yes, it is a design error. It's hard to spot. But does it make the calculator difficult to use? Not for me, as I usually have a pretty good idea what answer I should get before I punch things in. The display is large, clear and exhibits excellent contrast.

I have no idea how good the algebraic mode is. I use RPN exclusively. I dislike algebraic calculators. I really don't have that sort of time to waste when I'm using a calculator. The 33s uses the same stack structure as so many HP calculators before it, so general use is just like using an old friend- Familiar, easy, and very efficient.

The keyboard is odd looking, but the looks of the keyboard are not a problem for me. Others have complained that the green and purple used on the two shift keys are difficult to distinguish in low light. I suppose this is true, but about three minutes of use should allow you to memorize their positions. And, if you cannot, perhaps the clear, easy to read annunciators in the display will help. The keyboard's 'touch' is excellent. The keys snap nicely when pressed, providing very good tactile feedback.

The machine seems well made. It is a nice size for me. And the unique 'ENG' button, which allows a numer to be shifted to engineering format, is a unique and very useful feature.

Just like the 32SII, the assortment of available functions is excellent. It even has the most common metric conversions available at the touch of two keys, a feature invaluable in my field.

The included documentation is well written and concise, and far more complete than what comes with most calculators these days.

user friendly
very easy to use point and shoot. fast picture taking ability and does a good job auto-focusing. with 256 mb card, can hold 140 pics at default settings (5mp, fine). lcd screen is awesome and makes this camera a joy to use and review shots to ensure you got what you wanted. couple minor annoyances...battery will fall out when you open compartment, no locking feature on front lense cover (sometimes it will open on its own in your purse/pocket), no included carrying case....to protect lcd screen while in pockets or purse from scratches.

quality of pictures is on par or better than my olympus c4000 at 1/4 th the size.

docking station is fast with usb 2.0 instead of 1.1 like most others. recharges battery in under 3 hours.

this camera has impressed me....size, quality, and easy to use.

i recommend for those that want to carry a camera with them at all times without extra luggage.

Not 100% pleased with this purchase
I purchased this camera about 2-3 months ago for general purpose/travel photography with my family. I was leaning towards the Canon S500, but went with the Sony T1 due to it's minimal size. Since purchasing, we have taken numerous photos, using both the "auto" mode as well as the "program" mode with some of the suggestions from previous posters in this forum (adjusting ISO, EV, sharpness, etc.). Overall, about 50% of the images are good to very good, and the remainder are very poor. The problem seems to primarily be with the focusing sensor, as a lot of images are not in focus - now I know what you're thinking, maybe I just didn't have the subject in the center of the focusing brackets, or the subject moved after holding down the shutter, or whatever, but trust me - that is not the case. I take numerous digital photos for work with Nikon, Olympus, and Kodak cameras, and only 5-10% of these are not in focus.
In several of the pictures NOTHING is in focus, which doesn't make a lot of sense unless the AF sensor is just not picking anything to focus on!?
Also, several of the photos have been blurred, even in bright sunlight, as though the shutter speed was too slow. (Yes, even when adjusting the ISO to 400).
Anyway, it's now in for repairs to see if there actually is a specific problem with the camera. As to the other issues:
1. Yes, red-eye is pretty bad, but easy to fix with software (no, I'm not using Sony's software).
2. I don't care that much about the missing tripod slot.
3. I've had no trouble keeping the lid closed.
4. USB and charger are a little bulky, but you can buy a small charger and USB from Sony, and/or buy a big enough MD card to hold images until you can download.
5. Camera functionality/ease of use is good and intuitive; I'd like a way to set the shutter speed, though...
The bottom line is this - I would love this camera if I could consistently get good photos (i.e., in focus and not blurred) out of it. If the camera gets fixed to solve these problems, I'll let you know; otherwise, I can not recommend it.

BEST Camera ever!!!
This is our 3rd sony camera and I love them all, but this one.. wow the pictures are so clear, the screen size is huge, and the compact size is amazing. I keep it in my purse all the time for those shots when your just at the playground with the kids and you'd have wished you had your camera, WELL I DO... all the time and use it almost everyday. So easy to use, and such an amazing camera. I would never buy anything but sony, ever. You'll LOVE this camera, it truely is the best!

B E A U T I F U L - Im Lovin It
I Love My Camera every where i took it so far i had possitive comments about it, it never gave me a problem like other customer had mentioned in this feedback, if you follow the direction as stated in the manuel you will not go wrong, it is a nice camera awsome screen could not complian nice and big.

Accessories
For those of you that find it bulky to charge... buy the Compact Charger and an extra battery - well worth it! Even though you can take well over 100 pictures with flash and still have battery power; just be safe and have a back up. MPEG takes up batter power as do flash pictures, so don't take a chance on losing the picture or clip of a lifetime. For that one time you will never be able to relive again, it is great. Red-eye, I agree... Sony, could you please work on it. We are going to Vegas, so we purchased an extra battery and have taken many shots with moving lights so when we get to Vegas, I've had plenty of practice for perfect night pictures and moving light pictures. Don't like the way they look...... delete them; and start over; play with the features, that is why they are there. Tripod would be nice; however, for $500 I wouldn't want to venture into getting a Tripod; falling over would crush me!!! ... Read more

Good point and shoot, but not for professional video
This camera offers descent point and shoot type video.If you're interested in making independent films, I would stay away from this camera.For one, there is ONLY ONE CCD.The camera CAN'T shoot in 24p progressive video mode, you're stuck with lame 29.97fps.That means you'll never get that "film-like" feel that film-movie cameras have.There isn't a manual focus ring, you have to focus using MENU controls!The camera also has a CCD the 1/5.5" in size.This pales incomparison to other cameras with bigger CCDs (like the sony fx1 with 1/3" CCDs).A bigger CCD means better low light capability.Also the max verticle lines of resolution is 520 lines.This camera can't compete with 1080i type cameras that have over TWICE the verticle lines.But it's a good camera for those who can't (or don't want to) spend $40K on a professional digital camera.So don't buy this camera if you're interested in making professional feature films.

Small & High Quality
The camera is nice and compact, smaller than it's competitors including Canon, easy to hold and carry around.Very high image quality - looks like broadcast quality when viewing on a television set.Very professional features - it may take some hunting and pecking through the manual to learn all the options.Light aperture can be adjusted manually or automatically or with general (pre-programmed)settings such as "high speed action" or the "beach," etc.. Runs quite long on the battery that comes with it.Built in lens cover makes it simpler.Overall a great camera.I also have a $3500 professional mini-DV and this one is virtually just as good.

Not worth the extra money...
Well I just got this model to test.I am returning it tomorrow as i find it no different than my refurbed discontinued HC20 I got for ultra cheap at the Sony Outlet.Picture quality in my opinion is exactly the same.Handling is the same with the HC42 having more options.So what about the 12x optical - its only 2x more than the HC20.Everything about this camcorder reeked overpriced.

I admit I bought this one mainly for the Analog to Digital passthru but after thinking it over it is not worth the extra cost at all.Half the options (still pic, memory stick, etc...) are things I will not use.

I honestly feel that this is an overpriced camcorder.I tested a Panasonic and it wascheaper and well if you need all these options it was a better buy to get a Panasonic GS35 (30x optical!)

As for the analog to digital passthru - i am going to stick with my old Sony D8 cam for that work.This is just not worth it.I'd look into the HC21/32 if you really want a Sony.

Sony is the best, again
After much searching for the perfectly priced, and well performing mini DV camcorder, I came back to Sony's HC42 model. I've owned a LOT of sony products over the year, and have yet to be disappointed. This is a solid camera, packing a touch screen, an upgraded lens, 12x optical zoom, and a docking station which connects your camera to the computer (via a firewire cord that YOU MUST PURCHASE separetly, it only comes with a USB cable for tranferring pictures) and is also a charging stand. It comes with some video editing software, but I would suggest Pinnacle 9 Plus, or a 3rd party if you are really into video editing. The picture quality is awesome, ease of use is great (it even has an 'EASY' mode, where high tech options disappear from the screen!). You cant go wrong at this price point. I wouldnt go for lower models, and the higher runs over 1000 bucks..this is the sweet spot. Enjoy

Be Careful!
The DCR-HC42 specification says that the unit has "external microphone" capability.In the past, both the Sony DV an D8 units accommodated external microphones, like lapel mics and powered portable mics.This unit's idea of an external mic is one that attaches to the shoe, which is attached to the camera (and is only sold by Sony $70-$150). If all you need is a point-and-shoot microphone, then the unit may be adequate for your needs, but it's not what past Sony units have been capable of. ... Read more

Great little camera.
It's compact but not too small.I was looking at Canon SD500 and Sony W7, and chose the W7, as the SD500 was just too small in physical size and really needed to hold it with both hands to feel secure.W7 is easy to use and picture quality is great.It would have gotten 5 stars if it had shutter and aperture priority mode built in.1Gb memory stick, 15 minute charger and extra batteries should be considered must have accessories with this camera. ... Great update
iPhoto 5 is a great update. It does lots more, and on a dual processor G5 really flies! It does have a bit of a funky response if you tweak the saturation of a photo in extreme highlights (window in a backlit situation) where the whole area of complete white goes a funky color. But just undo what you by reverting to the original and start over. iMove and iDVD are good updates too with the new 16:9 ratio and some really nice themes. Better performance, and more functionality. Garageband with recording up to 8 lines in at once is a major improvment, especially being albe to see notes appear as you write your music! It may not be Logic Express (also owned by Apple) but it really works well. Garageband alone is worth the upgrade.

Direct Printing

• Memory Effect: A phenomenon that occurs when rechargeable batteries are continually operated to a low level (such as 25%), then recharged. In such cases, the batteries can end up losing the rest of their capacity. Well made fast easy to use camera
My excellent f717 was stolen so I purchased the P120, the black version of the P100 that includes an extra battery and belt wearable carry case. First thing you notice is the excellent 'only Sony can do this' build quality. Sony are not so good at large items, but excell in the small stuff. The second thing you notice is the speed of all features. Soon as you press the power button, the lens zips out right away and you're ready to shoot quicker than you can get your finger on the shutter release! Shutter lag is virtually non-existent. Sony's new improved independent menu navigation buttons are better than the previous all-in-one joypad. The picture quality DETAIL is not as good as the f717, but then, the lens is far smaller, but the speed and responsiveness is twice if not thrice as good. Movie mode is almost DVD quality with a Memory Stick Pro (640 x 480 at 30fps). What really made me buy this camera (and not buy another 717), other than the lovely compact design, is it's manual controls. While limited, you can adjust both the shutter and aperture, although only two f stops. I have only had the camera a few days, but can tell from what I have tried that Sony have fixed most of the flaws in their other compact digicams to deliver an outstanding piece of engineering that I shall be wearing on my belt everywhere now to snap that 'Koda', no, 'Sony' moment! :-)

Buy this now!!! It's worth every cent and much more!!
This camera has to be one of the best cameras out there. When i first got it I noticed its sleek design. Its so small and light. It fights in the palm of my hands and I can carry it anywhere. I actuallly noticed too that its basically smaller than my nokia 6800 cell phone which is shocking. anyway the camera has a nice 1.8 inch LCD screen. The photos look amazing when you view them. When you are dealing with this camera you also get the FASTEST performance. The camera starts up in like 1 or 2 seconds and it shoots with NO LAG. Even if you are shooting with flash the shot to shot time is awesome. The zoom pops out very fast too which also makes a funny noise. i don[t reallyh ahve to explain the picture quality because you know Sony is always EXCELLENT with that. Others say that canon is better but I think Sony's a tad better well atleast with this camera anyway. The movie mode on this camera is comparable to a camcorder. It shoots VGA (640x 480) at an option of 15fps or 30fps. 30 fps is basically smoother but requires about twice the memory so 15fps would be sufficient for any user. To tlel you the truth i bought this camera for the movie mode too because its much better than the Canon S500. Lastly, the battery is outstanding. You can shoot pictures a little over 3 hours worth. I recommend geting the accessory kit from sony (comes with battery, case, wallet thing) about $65 on ebay and a 256mb memory stick card or 512 memory stick pro card. You can get the 512mb one for under $120!!

Oh and I forgot to mention the cool accessories available for this beastily camera. You can get 1.7X telephoto lens, 2.6X lens (turns ur compact camera to almost a 8X optical demon, lol), .7X wide lens, marine pack (underwater case) and external flash (some say the flash on the camera isn't bright enough so people buy external separate ones)

Low light pictures
I'm thinking of buying this camera and wanted to know from the owners of the camera if this camera takes excellent pictures like Canon in low light/indoor conditions. I currently own a Sony DSCP9 Cyber-shot 4MP Digital Camera and it takes crapy pictures in low light conditions (even indoors). The skin tone is extremely grainy. Your honest experience with indoor and low light pictures would be greatly appreciated (especially skin tones).

Nice pocket camera
This is my sixth digital camera. I've had my DSCP100 for about three weeks and am generally impressed. I'm quite pleased with the colors in the images and with the auto-focus speed. I'm a little bothered by the number of blurry images I get, but I attribute that to getting used to the very light camera (actually, no one I've handed it to seems to get past the tendency to move/jerk this tiny camera during exposures).

The Sony's 640x480 video clips are certainly markedly improved from the 320x240 days, but be aware that they aren't equal to the quality one would expect from a camcorder. I do notice that the autofocus tends to change focus too much during video capture and this highly transient focus can detract from the quality of the video clips. I recommend a really big Memory Stick Pro to record lengthy videos at the highest quality.

Punchline: while it isn't perfect, it's pretty hard to beat the combination of size, cost and performance. I do not regret my purchase.

Awesome camera, you can't go wrong with this one!
After months of searching for the perfect ultra-compact camera I came down with Canon S500, S410 and Sony P100. I then decided to go for the Sony P100 and that's one perfect decision I'll never regret. This camera is awesome and you can't go wrong with it. As advertised, its lightning fast and its battery life is unbelievable. I used this on a 5 day museum hopping in Chicago, and in those 5 days I took hundreds of pictures and several videos and only needed to charge my camera once! While my friend who has a Canon S410 had to charge his camera everyday. Picture quality is also excellent and is the same if not better than Canon's. But with a better movie mode, LCD screen, battery life and speed, there's no way you'll choose Canon over this one. ... Read more

it goes everywhere with me :D
i've been a mac user all my life, i have tried a few windows based systems but they just seem poorly integrated and clnuky and too much trouble, i don't mind playing with them at work for the 'geek factor' but i do all of my music and digital artistry on my macs and wouldn't have it any other way.

since the 12" powerbooks came out i have been drooling over them, but i had a 15" titanium powerbook and then recently got a g5....but when my titanium powerbook practically fell apart, i decided to buy the 1.5hz 12"pb (combo drive).

i absolutely love this thing, its so small and cute but it can handle anything you throw at it, i thought the screen would be too small to do my graphics work on it but i can easily sketch away with my graphics tablet wherever i am.

the battery life is good, its compact and relatively lightweight, made of metal, built very solid and runs osx.what else could you want?!

the one thing i was a little unhappy with was the screen because its just a regular lcd, alot of 'windoze' notebooks are using those nice shiny 'crystal bright' displays.
if apple had those displays in a widescreen form factor on this thing, it would be absolute perfection, bar none.

but overall im very happy with it and its abilities to perform anything i throw at it.
if you are considering one then go to an apple centre and play around with one for a while...i bet you will go home with one, or want to :D

osx tiger is fast, sleek, powerful, futuristic, beautiful.
and below the hood in the terminal you have access to its darwin/unix.
ive never had a virus EVER in my life thanks to being a mac user, no spyware, MUCCCH less chances of being hacked, my titanium powerbook only crashed once in the whole 3-4 years i had it, and my g5 and 12" powerbook have NEVER crashed.
sure it is possible to get a 'lemon' and have problems, it IS a computer afterall and there can be things that go wrong, but overall....macs just work. and in doing so they let you work without screwing around with settings and troubleshooting.

i honestly dont know why people still bother with windows, its primative compared to osx.

A TRUE Switcher!
I am writing this review in order to give you my thoughts on this powerbook versus the last guys that wrote a review about switching. First off there's no way you can compare apples to oranges, or in this case Apple to Windows computers. Because first off Apple's processor is much more efficent in the way it handels information. You can not look at Gzh! there are many more steps involved than just that. Now I will go down the line of "cons" that superman2k3 had.
1 - The screen is small, there's no doubt about it but that's what you have to sacrifice for the smallness of the 12 inch powerbook, and I still do not know what he means by clearity in the font, I can easily read what I am typing, what folders say on my desktop and anywhere else there is typing of FONTS!.
2 - I have 512 mb of RAM in my powerbook. It runs perfectly smooth and flawless. My powerbook 1.5 ghz runs faster than my neighbors 3.0 ghz pentium desktop!
3 - First off with the accessories the $60 mouse he's talking about is the Apple bluetooth wireless mouse. You can get a corded mouse much less. And second of all you DO NOT have to buy just Apple accessories. I have a mini wireless mouse that I got when I had a windows laptop (with windows XP) and to use it on the windows laptop I needed to install drivers and other software, well one night I decided to try it on my powerbook and it worked GREAT! with no drivers, nothing. The manufacturers website never stated it made for a Mac! Only for windows 98, 2000, ME, XP ect.
4 - Now I don't know about you but I personally don't have any reason what so ever to get to my hard drive. With 60 or 80 gigabyte discs I don't think I will be randomly droping new ones in. In fact I don't think I will ever even open up my RAM slot for more RAM. There is just nothing inside the computer I would ever want to mess with. Instead I would just send it in to Apple.
5 - Well in a way this is true. Most software for Windows won't work for a Mac but you can however get a $80 software called Virtual PC made my Microsoft for the Mac computer. This program enables you to run every program made for a PC. And when you buy future programs you will just buy the mac version instead.
6 - What do you mean NON SCROLLING. This trackpad in my powerbook has a built in scrolling function. Just drag two fingers over it in a webpage, a word file (yes Microsoft makes all of the Office suite, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, ect. for Mac) pdf's, Jpegs, you name it it works. And I know it only has a single button but if you need a sort of "right click" just hold down the Ctrl button at the same time. A list (just like on a Windows) pops up.
7 - As I stated earlier you can't compare apples to oranges. The Apple computer will run faster, smoother, and is already pre-loaded with amazing applications that would cost you hundreds of dollers on a PC like iPhoto, but mostly like iMovie and iDVD.
8 - Innovation, give me a break!!! Apple invented the personal computer. They wrote the Mac Operating System (OS) that Microsoft eventially copied back in the 80's. In fact there was a huge lawsuit over it. You can search Google if you want to learn more! And Apple has to compete with PC's everyday. I mean you think about it, a person is not going to buy both an Apple laptop and a PC laptop together! THINK HERE MAN!
9 - You DO NOT have to order any more warrenty from Apple, Apple gives you a one (1) year warrenty for your machine already, in fact better than most PC manufactures, however you may want to purchase the extended warrenty because laptops get a more rugged approach to them then desktops. Now this would be the same case as if I were buying a Dell, HP, Compaq (owened by HP so is relativley the same machine) or any other PC. And they're all in the same price range for the extended warrenty.
10 - As I stated earlier (I seem to have to repeat myself a LOT!) almost all hardware devices work both ways. And software, if you want to keep your PC software you can purchase an $80 virtuall PC software that will run it just fine!

Now I hope I did not make anyone angery by this, it's just the facts. And in conclusion the Powerbook is a remarkable tiny, shiny, all around great machine that has the looks and feel of Apple all around, from the hardware, to the OS it is all Apple (with no viruses or spyware) and the best part of it is that if you ever have any problems at all, because Apple makes the whole thing (inside and out) there is just one (1) number to call for anything dealing with it. Try doing that with a PC company. They'll just refer you to another company who will refer you back. That's if you get an actuall representative! Not just a computer on the other end. Well I hope this helps to clear up any thoughts you may have. I am a TRUE switcher. I went from a PC for five (5) years to a mac for now my 3rd month. And I LOVE IT!

One more thing "Once you go Mac, you'll never go Back!"

Faster than My Old iBook, that's for Sure
I have a friend of a friend who works at an Apple store and just recenlty he let me play with all the new stuff, some old stuff too and here is my impression of the new, improved 12 inch PowerBook. First off, and I feel like shouting this, but I won't, "It's about time Apple put out a computer that had enough memory in it to actually run it!" I have an old G3, 14 inch iBook and right off the bat I had to buy more memory, bumping it up to 640 megs, so knowing this baby comes with 512 right out the door, will bring a sigh of relief to anybody thinking of buying one.

The screen is too small for my tired eyes, but if you're young and seeing 20/20 or don't mind reading glasses that shouldn't be a problem. This machine is small and sleek, comes with an Airport Extreme card built in. This model comes with the DVD/CD-RW drive instead of the Superdrive, so you can't record video, but for an extra 200 bucks, maybe you don't want to. Compared to my aging, but still working like a champ iBook, this baby screams. And the 60 gig hard drive gives you plenty of room to load up those MP3s to play in iTunes.

The machine does not, however, come with one of those nifty, light up in the dark keyboards and you don't get a FireWire 800 port, 400 only, but I guess Apple had to give them up, due to size considerations. But as I said, this machine screams, really screams and for 1500 bucks, it's a deal. It would have been nice if Apple could have figured out a way to engineer a G5 chip into the machine, but, I suppose they are still too hot and a fan or fans would have made this silent marvel both noisy and bigger. Anyway all in all I have to say, well done Apple. Five stars and worth every one.

You'll fall in love with this go-anywhere Powerbook!
I made the "switch" last fall when the 20" iMac G5 was released, and was looking to pick up a laptop with the same quality hardware and OS. I knew I wanted an ultra-portable laptop, partially because of the price and partly because a laptop is just not meant to require a desk to use it. (In my opinion, anything over 15" or 6 pounds is a desktop-replacement). I had originally considered the 12" iBook, which is a great value (1.2 GHz + Airport Extreme!) for the money. In the end, after getting the "i"Mac, I though I'd go with the "Power"book. My decision was partially due to the realization my 15 GB iPod is about 60% full, so importing the iTunes collection would have taken up a good chunk of the iBook's 30 GB drive.

It's quite a bit more expensive than the iBook, but you get a faster processor, a disk drive that twice as big and faster, Bluetooth, and an aluminum case that looks stunning. Also worthy of mention would be the new features in the 2005 Powerbooks, namely a scrolling trackpad (I wish my iMac had one now!), Sudden Motion Sensor that'll park the disk heads if it senses that it might have just been dropped, and Bluetooth 2.0, a standard so new there's no peripherals that'll use the 2.0 speeds, only its 1.1/1.2 legacy support. 512 MB is finally enough for standard usage (I can't endorse anything less than 512 MB for OS X), but I still upgraded the memory. Too bad Apple still has 256 MB built-in, as I had to pull the socketed 256 MB SO-DIMM to put in a 512 MB SO-DIMM, unlike the 15" and 17" which come with a single 512 MB SO-DIMM and an open slot.

If you can afford the extra money over the iBook and need the features, this machine will quickly become your pride and joy. If a 30 GB HD is big enough and you won't be doing heavy-duty iMovie editing, I still believe the iBook is an unbelievable price/performance value.

Items to get with your 12" PowerBook G4
There is no question this is one of the best laptops available at a great price. I have a new Sony Vaio laptop as well, which has an outstanding screen, but all comparisons stop there. The G4 12" wins hands down on all other counts, from the full size keyboard, easily accessible ports, etc.
The point of this review, however, is to suggest several items I use with the G4 12". First, a Tom Bihn "Brain Cell" laptop case... works well on its own but even fits in my backpack. This case is light but still strong; I never have to worry about my laptop while on the road. Second, an XT-Stand from GJB enterprises. Works fine
I haven't owned a walkman in quite a few years.I bought this to listen to books-on-tape while I workout.It's very compact and has worked well.There is sufficient volume for my needs and the sound quality seems just fine.The fabric/plastic cover has to be removed to change tapes (I usually just leave it off now ... but you need it if you want to clip the unit to your waistband).Battery life seems good and it only requires one AA.Since I've only had it one month, I can't really comment on durability.

Good tuner and tape ....usual lack of volume.
Very good reception for FM not bad for AM/MW.Decent tape deck without a lot of wow and flutter,allthough cue/review would have been nice.Not Cro2 compatable(no switch).It comes with a handy protective slip case.How can you get any volume out of one AA cell? You can't.Has the same pathetic lack of volume as most of the newer walkman types.Headphones that come with it are not the best...but when have you ever got a good set of 'phones with a walkman? Invest in some Koss Porta-pros.It's money well spent.

all in all it's a good little unit..but as usuall for todays gear,don't expect much volume.

No penalties and a few nice touches
The WM-FX290 plays tapes clearly without the warbly speed changes (known as "wow and flutter") that render piano music unbearable. At this price point, competency is the key; anything better is icing on the cake.

These days, people shopping for a cassette Walkman probably listen to audiobooks or have a boxful of old tapes they think they'll get around to playing. Neither customer likely expects Dolby noise reduction or the ability to play CrO2 or metal tapes. Also, in case you were planning to dictate notes to self, note now that this unit does NOT record.

The pleasant surprise is what you DON'T expect to find at this price: Attractive styling, digital tuning with presets, comfortable headphones, exceptional battery life (from one AA battery!), and a "hold" button that prevents unintended station changes when the unit is stuffed in a pocket.

What isn't so hot? Well, weather band has weak reception even in areas with usable signal, the "bass boost" function produces a sonic mudslide that will alarm even "boom car" afficionados, and the nearly opaque clamshell makes you eject to read the tape label or see how much tape remains on a side (yikes).

At this humble price point, the presence of a few nice touches -- and lack of jarring penalties -- spells an easy five stars.

worked well for me
Printing from photoshop elements 3 (both the organizer portion and the editing portion) produced an image that was very close to the screen colors of my calibrated screen.I'm using a laptop which I calibrated with photocal.I chose the correct paper and ink setup in the driver AND made sure to go into printer properties and select for the application to manage color.The prints matched the screen...no problem.(including skintones)The cartridge also includes a plastic cover to cover up the nozzle when you store it.So you can change out cartridges all you want, just put the cover on it and things will be fine.
