Optics and Resolution
The Photosmart R707 has a 1/1.8-inch CCD with a 5.1-megapixel resolution (effective) for 2612 x 1968 pixel images. It also has a 1296 x 976 pixel low-resolution mode. The 3x optical zoom lens has an 8-24mm focal length (equivalent to 39-117mm in 35mm photography). It also has an 8x digital zoom to help you get even closer to the action.

Video and Audio
In addition to still imagery, the Photosmart R707 can also capture high-quality MPEG1 video with audio. It has a high-resolution video setting of 320 x 240 pixels and 30 frames per second. Movie length is only limited by the amount of storage you have on hand (either internal memory or external memory card). You can also capture voice notes of up to 60 seconds in length.

More Features
With HP's Instant Share feature, printing and sharing photos with friends and family is quick and simple. You can select a destination--e-mail addresses, online albums, printers and more--on the back of the camera with a single push of a button. When connected to a PC (either via the included USB cable or via the optional dock), the selected images are automatically printed and/or e-mailed. E-mail recipients see thumbnails of the images right in the body of their e-mail message, as well as a link to the web page where they can view, print and save the photos.

• HP Image Advice, which analyzes photos and then provides tips to users on how to adjust settings to improve future shots, thus helping the photographer learn to take better photos.
• HP In-Camera Red-Eye Removal, which instantly removes red-eye from photos right on the camera without using a PC--an industry first.
• HP In-Camera Panorama Preview, which allows consumers to take up to five pictures that are then combined into a panorama picture composition and reviewed in-camera.
• HP Adaptive Lighting, which automatically adjusts high-contrast photos to bring faces out of shadows and details out of backgrounds. This feature balances brightness relationships between bright and dark areas in a photo, preserving gentle contrasts while compressing harsh contrasts.

Direct Printing
The Photosmart R707 offers PictBridge functionality, which enables you to transfer pictures from your digital camera to a compatible printer without a PC or image-editing software. Images can be viewed and selected for printing right on the camera's LCD, with menus for print quantity, date, and index print.

Storage and Transfer
Images can be stored in the built-in 32 MB memory, or on optional Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards. The internal 32 MB memory will store 12 Fine and 23 Standard 5.1-megapixel images. The R707 transfers images to PCs and Macs via a speedy USB 2.0 connection (which is backward compatible with USB 1.1 ports).

Wonderful little camera
This is my third digital camera. I have owned a Fuji FinePix and a Pentax Optio S4. This camera performs so much better than either one of those. The good points: Great video, crystal clear images, super easy to use, removes red eye after pic is taken, adaptive lighting really works, good battery life. The bad points: a little slower than some cameras when it comes to processing images(but it is worth it), no case or SD card (seems to be a trend with most digitals).

I researched this camera and the Canon Powershot S410 and S500. When comparing the two, the HP had 2 or 3 better features than the Canon. I was hesitant about buying the HP, because it was so new that there was not a lot of customer feedback. I guess the selling point that just made my decision easier was the red eye in camera removal, since I take lots of close ups of my children.

I am so happy with my purchase. I would recommend this camera to anyone. The auto features make picture taking a no-brainer, but if you do want to get creative, you can adjust almost anything, in the manual mode.

HP Delivers with the R707
HP finally delivers a Camera that puts themselves above the crowd. I've been a fan of HP for a long time and the HP R707 is a big jump in quality from their previous cameras. The first thing I noticed was the speed. Everything from taking pictures to navigating the menus was lightning fast. HP has also packed the camera with great software. Built into the camera are features for removing red eye, making panoramic scenes, adjusting bad lighting in pictures...ect. The camera also does not use double A batteries, which I always burned through on my previous cameras. I was able to use the camera continuously for about two hours constantly using the flash and lcd screen with the lithium-ion batteries.

I had no problems with the software and the camera was synced in under 10 minutes. I really like the Arcsoft panoramic maker.

I give the Camera four out of five stars because I thought HP should of included a Secure Digital memory card with the camera. It does not come with a removable memory card and I thought that was cheap on their behalf.

Overall, I highly recommend this camera if you are looking for a point and shoot device.

Best Quality in its Price Range.
You won't find a better camera for this price. I bought this camera in August while on vacation. I had read raving reviews about the camera prior to getting it, and they were right. What I love most is that the camera fits in my back Jean's pocket. Now that it's winter I have it in my coat pocket every day. The battery lasts forever and has no "memory problems". The camera comes with its own recharger and the battery takes between 6-8 hours to charge, can be done when you go to bed. <br />The camera has many features you only find on more expensive cameras at half the price. The 5 megapixel shots are astounding in crispness and color fidelity. It does not come with an SD card, but it has built in memory which allows you to take various shots depending on the quality setting. All the cameras that come with a card include one with so little memory that they are not even worth using and require the purchase of an additional card, so I don't see the lack of one as a drawback on the R707. I have taken pictures and had them developed at the kiosks in some of the stores for 29 cents a piece and I only have to develop the one's I like. I never have to buy or develop film, I can email the images to family instantly with the camera's features and can even print them on any color printer with the press of a button. If you want stunning photos and the lowest price with the easiest user interface, then this is the one to get; you can't go wrong.

Love it!
I just bought the r707 a few weeks ago, and I LOVE it. I spent a lot of time researching and I would have never thought of getting an HP, but I finally decided to get this camera after testing it in the store. It replaced a 2 megapixel canon elph, which produced average pictures. The interface for this camera is much more user-friendly than my old elph, and the pictures are gorgeous too--the colors are sharp and crisp. It's just so fun to use! You do need to take advantage of the many modes and setting options to get beautiful images in all conditions (low light etc) but it's not hard to do that and worth the effort. It also does really well with action shots.

Lens in the Viewfinder -----
I just bought this camera. Its a nice design overall...but suffers from one major flaw. The lens is visible in the bottom right-hand corner of the viewfinder.

I read many detailed reviews before purchasing and none of them mention this....WHY ? Don't others find this a distraction when composing pictures ? HP has designed all these nifty features not available on other cameras... They got the styling right all in a nice tight package but really dropped the ball on the most basic feature of all....optics.

I called HP to make sure that my unit wasn't defective. The rep powered up a camera and comfirmed that yes you do see 'a bit of the lens' but it doesn't print !....well duh...I know it doesn't print. So basically its good to know mine is not defective...they are ALL defective, IMO. Told the rep mine was going back to the store tomorrow. A word of caution
Apple needs to improve quality control and product support. The superdrive stopped working when laptop was 6 weeks old.Sent to Apple repair on April 4 and was informed 5 days later after I called that replacement wouldn't be available until end of April. New Superdrive could be quality control problem like permanent white spots on screens and batteries that catch fire of earlier models. Pity, because everything else about the machine is simply superb.

The Holy Grail of Laptop Computing
I have a friend of a friend who works at an Apple store and just recenlty he let me play with all the new stuff, some old stuff too and here is my impression of the new, improved 15 inch PowerBook. First off, and I feel like shouting this, but I won't, "It's about time Apple put out a computer that had enough memory in it to actually run it!" I have an old G3, 14 inch iBook and right off the bat I had to buy more memory, bumping it up to 640 megs, so knowing this baby comes with 512 right out the door, will bring a sigh of relief to anybody thinking of buying one.

The screen on this baby is gorgeous, no reading glasses for me here. This machine is svelte and sleek, comes with Airport Extreme built in. Has all the usual ports, plus FireWire 800 and it's crowning jewel, in my humble opinion, is the backlit keyboard. Apple claims it's ten times brighter than the old model. I can attest to the fact that it's brighter, but ten times, I don't know, I didn't see it. However, it's plenty bright enough to work in the dark. This 1.67 GHz model comes with a Superdrive and a scrolling trackpad (which I didn't mention in my other reviews). I found the trackpad scrolling business to be a little annoying, but no matter you can turn it off in System Prefs if you want. However, I imagine once you get used to it, one might find it darned handy.

Compared to my aging, but still working like a champ iBook, this baby screams. And the 80 gig hard drive gives you plenty of room to load up those MP3s to play in iTunes.

This, in my opinion, is not only the best PowerBook of the bunch, but the best laptop ever made. It is truly the Holy Grail of laptop computing. Apple has really gone and got it right this time.

tens years later... back from retirement
Had to return an hp laptop because it refused to cooperate.ProTools Le was too much for it.
I didn't want a powerbook, I needed one.
The blend of beauty and pleasure shocked me when I booted it up the first time.
Slipped in the gig of pc 2700 ram with no problems.
It hasn't complained once.
The superdrive is super-intuitive and easily backed up a full dvd in as much time as my pc would burn files to cd-r.
All my peripherals are compatible with osx.3.8 (which I had to download from apple...breezy.)
I'm enjoying the interface, a lot less clicks and menus to access files.
Got giggly about the zoom feature for the display.
When's the last time your pc made you smile?

In short, my g4 is the perfect houseguest.

Apple PowerBook Notebook
This is one of the best notebook PC's on the market. This has a 1.67GHz PowerPC G4 Processor which isn't too fast but it's pretty fast for the Apple computers. 512 MB RAM is just perfect but I would recommend 1GB or 2GB. 80 Gigabyte Hard Drive is really nice and it's almost the largest hard drive (100GB is the largest). It has a SuperDrive which can do whatever you want it to do. The styling on this notebook is no wonderful and comes with all the ports and features. 15.2" is pure beauty and the graphics on this thing are great. Here are the specifications of this laptop.

if you're a heavy pc user, don't switch
I have Powerbook G4, purchased Nov 04, Mac OSX 10.3.8, 1.5 Ghz, upgraded RAM to 768MB.
If you're new to computing, or use Mac for non-business applications (heavy on graphics and creative work) it's probably a good choice.If you use Outlook (not Express) heavily, or use Powerpoint, Excel, and Word a lot and like XP, then the Mac is a snoozer.
reasons not to buy:
1-you pay a lot to get it to do the things a PC with updated Microsoft Office Professional Suite already does, and it never is quite as good...Mac Powerpoint feels pokier (saving, just in keeping up with my typing), Mac Excel toolbar gets on top of/in the way of my worksheets (haven't figured out how to make it go to the back), Outlook just isn't replicated at all on the Mac (unless you get Virtual PC)...Entourage just lacks the functionality
2-doesn't seem to handle the WEP password protocol on my Linksys wireless home network...even the folks at the Apple store said I wouldn't be able to get the DHCP security to work with my PC-based home network
3-Filevault....oooh, what a liability. Much touted file encryption will scramble and destroy files that are open if the Mac also goes into the won't-wake-up-again-sleep mode problem that it has. Though I never diagnosed this completely, I lost a number of key working files that may have been open when the Mac went into sleep mode (read:crashed) while I had Filevault going.I lost saved versions, and they're completely unrecoverable.Later the guys in the Apple store said they never use Filevault...it's "scary", they said.
4-Certain applications, like Visual Basic, aren't available for the Mac yet.
5-switching cost is high...getting contacts and files migrated over to the Powerbook took me a long time, and some of it is never the same. The contacts from outlook to entourage aren't organized the same (due to the fact that entourage contacts aren't as full-featured, lack some key fields), and the pc directories are only useful as read-only...I can't edit files in my pc folders and save them back into those folders (must have been some drive formatting issue that carried over); ripple effect of switching means you have to buy a lot of stuff new (back up drives, antivirus software, disk management software, backup AC cables, if you travel, etc.)
6-if you like XP, the Mac is NOT intuitive.What used to be left is now right, what's top is now bottom.I keep my mouse to the right of the screen (out of the way of typing)...but now important buttons like close/minimize are on the left, increasing mouse travel time.PC's usually have a disk drive light that lets you know the PC is working on something that involves the drive.I liked that...very intuitive way to let me know the PC is busy.No such light on the Mac.
7-you may have problems listening to Sirius radio on Safari; I needed to use Internet Explorer (Hah!much touted Mac browser useless for audio?), and even then can't get fully functional display due to some Mac technicality, according to Sirius techs.

reasons to buy:
1-Largely virus-free because virus writers get more leverage attacking pc's (more market penetration and more business focused); this is a blessing because I found Norton AV '04 to be dysfunctional, glad not to have to deal with it anymore.
2-Supposedly faster processing due to more streamlined operating system, though I don't find the mac to be any more responsive than even a lower priced pc
3-Faster boot-up and shutdown.
4-Fewer crashes-true, though not infallible either; mac's version of the PC blue screen is that some won't wake up after going to sleep
5-cool keyboard, backlit in the dark; very romantic and pretty.

Rating of 3 stars indicates sameness...it's as good as a PC, just different.I wouldn't recommend it for someone who's switching from XP expecting something superior. ... Read more

Apple quality comes through again!
My experience with the AirPort Extreme card has simply reaffirmed my faith in Apple. I literally popped the card into my PowerBook (this took all of a minute or two) and when I restarted my computer it was asking to connect to my wireless network. It couldn't get any easier. Reception is great and I've not experienced any of the problems some other Aluminum PowerBook owners have with reception. At the same time I installed this, I also installed a Microsoft wireless card on my girlfriend's Toshiba laptop. It took a good 3-4 hours to get that connected to the network due to driver issues, etc.. If you've got an AirPort Extreme-capable Mac, don't even consider using a PC Card for wireless. This card is the way to go!

Wires? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Wires!
Here we have one of Apple's entries into the 802.11g wireless networking arena. AirPort Extreme is fast, but not as fast as wired solutions. (AirPort Extreme allows a maximum bandwidth of 54 Megabits per second [Mbps], while wired networks can now handle 1000 Mbps and more speed yet to come, in the near future.)
Still, wireless provides plenty of speed to handle cable/DSL/satellite Internet access.
Systems that contain a wireless card can communicate with one another and with the Internet or other wired networks through the use of a wireless base station (such as Apple's AirPort Extreme Base Station, also available, here at Amazon.)
Although compatible with the older Apple AirPort (802.11b) and Centrino, this card will only fit into laptops and desktops/towers designed specifically for it.
My situation is probably ideal for using wireless. I live in an apartment and I can't drill through walls to run cables. I have a base station situated where the cable TV/Internet cable enters the apartment. My computer is in another room. With the AirPort Extreme card installed in my Mac, I was on the Internet in less than five minutes! (OK, I'll admit to being knowledgeable about computers, especially Macs, but, using the AirPort Setup Assistant is easy.)
Performance? Folks, you need to limit your expectations here. When home televisions first came out you could only receive two colors (black and white.) Similarly, wireless networking is still a relatively new technology. Range is limited. Don't expect to get more than 150 feet without an antenna on a base station. Also, interference from 2.4 GHz cordless phones is possible. AirPort Extreme has a "robustness" option to help in situations where there is interference.
I have been running AirPort Extreme for about six weeks, as of this writing. To date, I have had zero problems.

Apple is Simply Better!
The whole Apple Sytem is so easy to use, the Extreme Airport card is so Easy to install and there is No headache like I used to have with my PC's (I switched 3 years ago). Very hard to crash an Apple system. Apple was first with the Airport system. No need for the big "C" wireless.
Works perfect in "hot spot" areas! Can't ask for a better system. Give Apple a try and you will see what I mean.

You don't notice it -- which is the whole point
There's not a heck of a lot of point to writing a review for the AirPort, since it's the only option you have if you want to go wireless with a late model Mac (such as the 1 Ghz 12-inch G4 PowerBook that I use). But for what it's worth, here's my "two bits":

Installation on the PowerBook is relatively simple and takes only a few minutes. No, it's not as simple as, say, plugging in an external USB device, but then, you only have to do this once. Turn the Mac on, go to the System Preferences and be sure the AirPort card is detected and powered up, and you're good to go. Once it's configured properly, you don't even notice that it's there -- which is, after all, the whole point: an AirPort card is the kind of thing that should simply vanish from your awareness by working properly.

The AirPort Extreme in my PowerBook receives four stars, rather than five, for two reasons. First, the range is somewhat weaker than it was with the regular AirPort card in my old iBook (I'm told that this is due to the PowerBook's aluminum case). Second, if I put the PowerBook to sleep and I'm some distance away from my access point when I wake it, it occasionally has some trouble reestablishing the WiFi connection. Other than that, it's a great card and works well with my D-Link 614+. Being able to move around my apartment without trailing a Cat 5 cable with me everywhere I go has been a real relief, and a joy. great camera, but bad software/computer hook-up
This video camera works fine and is easy to operate.

Using the software and finding software that works with this camera is difficult.Tech support from Sony is very poor to help resolve these issues.

Ilink does not come with the camera.

Misleading
Pay attention to components that you'd expect but are not included. I'm a fan of Canon products, and have come to expect at least the minimal parts necc. to test and sample the gadget without additional parts purchase.

Nowhere on the box, nor in its instruction booklet, will it tell you that the package does not contain even a smallest of a Memory Stick PRO® Duonor a digital cassette to even test the unit. The box simply says "Memory Stick PRO® Duo."

Instruction booklet will simply tell you to place this here, plug that there, charge it this way, insert the Memory Stick PRO® Duo,without mentioning that certain parts would needed to have been purchased additionally and would not be found with the package.

A good option
I love this camcorder it has a great resolution video and easy to use,
the only thing is that mac users have to buy the iLink cable 4pin to 6pin.

Great camera, especially for the price!
I almost purchased the 42 instead of the 32, but after checking them out at the store I decided on the 32.The Samsung 353 was also in the running but one look in the store and I knew Sony was the way to go.I am glad I decided on the 32 because the only real difference was the CCD, which is 340k instead of 680k effective.It turns out the 32 does such a good job with the 340k I can't tell the difference, and for $150 less.The other only real difference is the color viewfinder on the 42, but who uses a viewfinder anymore.It doesn't come with a firewire (iLink) cable so be prepared to purchase one, especially if you have a mac.I am happy with our choice and look forward to many edited videos to share with the family. ... The machine works wonderfully, looks good; but people should be aware of a small, potent problem with the software.If you have (say) an internal CD-RW drive, and you're running Nero for it, this Sony DVD burner comes with its own version of Nero that wipes out your other version.And, this version of Nero will REFUSE to recognize a non-Sony burner of any sort.So, that's the end of your internal CD-RW drive!I bought this Sony for an office, intending to move it from machine to machine as needed, but this awful feature means I can't use it that way, because I would end up incapacitating everyone's CD burners.So, I have to keep it dedicated to a single machine.Might as well have bought an internal!What a design flaw, in an otherwise wonderful device!Whether or not this issue is of immediate concern to you, you really ought to be aware of it before you buy the machine.

Easy to Install and Works Perfectly
The good: Windows XP recognizes it.All you do is plug it in.I already had roxio software installed, and it recognized it as a drive, so I didn't bother installing the supplied software.

I burned a CD about 5 minutes after opening the box.What a joy.

It comes with a power cable , a USB cable and a firewire cable.You'll want to get a pack of DVD+R, which is the fastest format it writes.I haven't upgraded the firmware to get other formats to work faster, so I don't know if I could have bought something else to shove inside.

It's quiet: as quiet as my internal CD-RW drive.

The sort of bad:
It's pretty big.It's the size of an 8 port network hub.But as others have said, it comes with a stand, so it really doesn't take up much space when you stand it on its side with the stand.Unlike other smaller items that came with a stand, I really used the stand because it would take up too much space otherwise.

It will lock up your PC now and again.Not all the time, but occasionally.Would a firmware upgrade solve the problem?Who knows, I don't have the guts to try it!I'll report back on how often this happens on windows XP.

Decent burner, but why the Nero software (...)?
I purchased this burner a few weeks ago. After struggling a bit to get it to work properly, it seems to burn discs reasonable well, despite being rather noisy.

My concern is with the Nero software provided. Like most people, I rip audio CD tracks to MP3 format. This would seem to be a most basic feature of any media software. However, I was very surprised to learn this software requires the user to purchase an additional MP3 module at the cost of $20 once the free limit has been reached. That limit is 25 tracks, so you will be good for one, maybe two CDs before stumbling upon this "now you see it" feature. I can only wonder what other surprises await me.

Sony should be embarrassed for going along with this disreputable practice.

I can play them on my laptop and my sony dvd player, but I can not play them from my 2 other dvd players
Yet the dvd commercial movies I have can be played on all 3 of my dvd players
I am glad I don't have to buy sony dvd disks, and then burn my home videos on them.

Overall I am happy with the purchase.It worked for me on the second time after updating the firmware.The drive is kind of big and also a little loud.it still deserves 5 stars.

i am running xp on a thinkpad t41 with a pcmcia 1394 card.the first dvd was a coaster. nero captured the video but did not burn the dvd.the dvd looked like it burned part way.

then i updated the firmware from the sony.storageupdate.com.i also uninstalled the sonic DLA and utilities that were bundled with the IBM.I also tried a different dvd brand (imation)

i am capturing from a dish-network PVR thru an ADVC100 (bought from amazon) into the PCMCIA1394.it took about 20 minutes to burn a 50 minute show at 4x.I am also capturing to a USB hard drive Western Digital USB hard drive.

Nero wizard is intuitive, but I have not had a chance to explore in detail.i have yet to visit the site to get the updates, but what ships on the install disk seems to be working for me.

i have tried the shareware stuff in the past with no luck, so i am happy to have a way to transfer video from camcorder and PVR to dvd.at some point i will also transfer my old vhs and hi-8. ... Read more

Small But Powerful

But don't let its light weight fool you into thinking the iPod mini is a pushover. The 4GB hard drive (3.7 GB actual) can hold about 1,000 songs - enough to last almost three full days. The installed software includes four games; a calendar; a notepad; a contact database; a clock; backlight with timer; an alarm clock; and the abilities to customize the main menu; create playlists; and rate songs. All this is in addition to being able to be used as an external hard drive!

However, the most revolutionary aspect of the iPod mini (aside from it's size and weight) is its control interface. Incorporating the 'Menu', 'Pause/Play', 'Forward' and 'Back' buttons directly to the touch sensitive scroll wheel not only creates simplicity from a design standpoint, but form a user one as well. Accessing these controls is a breeze. Thankfully the touch wheel is designed well enough that accidental pressing of a control is unlikely to occur since you have to press down a bit to activate the button. I'd actually like to see the entire iPod line adopt this interface.

SO CuTE
The funny thing is some people waited for over 3 months to get their mini ipod's, 5 days before christmas my mom went to target to get started on her christmas shopping, and she got the last blue one! The mini ipod is the cuttest thing i have ever gotten in my life, and one of the best gifts! my sister who has a dell music player and for the same price got 9,000 songs laughed at me! grated dell has a better deal, but who really needs 9,000 songs? the mini ipod is light weight so when i go running or i am working out i can't even feel it. although the battery life isn't what it says to be the ipod is still wonderful!

Amazing!
I got my pink ipod mini about a week ago as sort of a pre-Christmas present. Anyway I love it. With the itunes cards which target also sells it is really easy to download music. I would like to suggest that anyone who does get a ipod mini should get an ipod dock, not a mini ipod dock. The mini ipod's are not plastic on the outside like the regular ipods. The ipod mini's have a brushed metal outer case and if you use the ipod mini with the ipod mini dock, your beautiful new ipod will get all scratched up on the front. I hope this helps anyone thinking of buying one of the ipods or mini ipods.

Mini Ipod..definately worth it.
When I first saw the mini Ipods i feel in love with the different colors. I decided to ask for one for my birthday, I got it. I have fallen in love with it. At first I wanted a regular Ipod, but the regular ones hold a TON of music, and since I get bored with songs easily, having a smaller one would make more sense considering my CD collection is quite small since I usually just listen to music on the computer. And when you think about, 1,000 songs.. that is A LOT of songs. You can also just delete the songs you don't want anymore and put new ones on it.

Super Slow
The Apple 8X Superdrive only burns at a speed of 2X!!! Many owners are having that problem and Apple refuse to address it to the public.I suggest people that are thinking of buying this unit save the $200 and buy an external burner, you can burn DL disk and at a faster speed.

It's the Battery, Stupid
Apple still can't seem to include a reliable battery in anything they produce. I've begun associating their products with the old adage: "Die young and leave a good looking corpse." This is because the damn things just don't go the distance without being plugged in constantly. Apple continues to use poor batteries in the iPod (sure they last longer on a charge, but see how many charge cycles you get before a single charge begins to take twelve hours to complete and then only three hours to drain.)

The saga continues here. I take this laptop into school and rarely do I reach the end of the day before the damn thing croaks off into sleep mode due to a drained battery after maybe four hours of use. For a product whose main purpose is to provide mobile computing in a solid, sturdy frame, this kind of battery life is just pathetic. I find myself all-too-often picking and choosing times to use it so I can make it last all day. This is not the kind of "freedom" I enjoy in my over-priced, ultra-portable computer (especially when numerous PC laptops go twice the distance for less cost.)

Aside from the battery issue, this is an excellent machine that delivers all the TV-commercial whiz-bang that it promises. If you use Toast, this burns CDs way faster than comparable PCs. The included software also blows doors on anything you'd find in a prepackaged PC. The keyboard is really nice and really takes a beating (unlike the iBook keys whose letters wear off the keyboard.) It has all the ports you need and none you don't. The aluminum body still looks sharper than any PC on the market and, although tiny, this laptop still feels like a tank without packing on the pounds.

As for faults, the WIFI detection could be stronger and the monitor lacks sharpness in outdoor areas while losing all contrast when subjected to even semi-direct sunlight. In other words, don't confuse these laptops with Apple's Cinema Displays. DVD playback is fine but will suck down the battery in no time.

Now that Tiger has been released, consider waiting until it comes pre-loaded. I've had my G4 for two months and definitely feel cheated about my newly-old Panther OS. Being the only major company to produce its own OS and the machines it runs on, it surprises me that Apple doesn't take better care of its hardware customers by offering free upgrades to very recent computer purchasers. Being asked to pay $130 for Tiger less than a month after the G4 hits my credit card bill is not a great way to convert me into a Mac Evangelist. I also own a PC am not loyal to either format.

Apple's are the best
If you are looking for a worry-free and just plain out fun computing experience then look no further than this Powerbook, or any mac that you can afford. I own the 1.33ghz 12" PowerBook and upgraded the RAM to 512mb - For those of you new to the Mac World 256 just won't cut it when it comes to OS X. I just installed the new version of Mac OS X Tiger on my PowerBook Today, and boy does it fly. This PowerBook is Perfect for Students (Like myself) I use to have a 15" but it use to weigh me down everyday walking around Campus. If you have an external Monitor buy the 12" load it up with as much RAM as possible (1.25gb) and you've got your self a great desktop replacement, and a great portable notebook. - Battery Life: Between 3-4hrs depending on what I'm doing. All in All a Great Notebook, Just get a good case for it and a Sleeve, because the Aluminum Case dings real easily.

Super Fast, Super Compact, Super Computer
I have a friend of a friend who works at an Apple store and just recenlty he let me play with all the new stuff, some old stuff too and here is my impression of the new, improved 12 inch PowerBook. First off, and I feel like shouting this, but I won't, "It's about time Apple put out a computer that had enough memory in it to actually run it!" I have an old G3, 14 inch iBook and right off the bat I had to buy more memory, bumping it up to 640 megs, so knowing this baby comes with 512 right out the door, will bring a sigh of relief to anybody thinking of buying one.

The screen is too small for my tired eyes, but if you're young and seeing 20/20 or don't mind reading glasses that shouldn't be a problem. This machine is small and sleek, comes with an Airport Extreme card built in. This model comes with a Superdrive and that, plus the fact that you get twenty more gigs of HD space with this model, is the only difference between it and the one selling for 200 dollars less. So if you don't want to record DVDs you might want to look at the more inexpensive model.

Compared to my aging, but still working like a champ iBook, this baby screams. And the 80 gig hard drive gives you plenty of room to load up those MP3s to play in iTunes.

The machine does not, however, come with one of those nifty, light up in the dark keyboards and you don't get a FireWire 800 port, 400 only, but I guess Apple had to give them up, due to size considerations. But as I said, this machine screams, really screams and for 1700 bucks, it's a deal. It would have been nice if Apple could have figured out a way to engineer a G5 chip into the machine, but, I suppose they are still too hot and a fan or fans would have made this silent marvel both noisy and bigger. Anyway all in all I have to say, well done Apple. Five stars and worth every one.

The best gets better
I bought the second generation of 12" PowerBook (1.0GHz) and just upgraded to the latest version of the same laptop (1.5GHz).To the Windows fan who says the fonts look bad and that there is no software, I say quit trolling and learn the facts.To everyone else I say that Apple's smallest PowerBook is a terrific machine, running a terrific OS.

Now the XP guy might say that I'm just another Mac zealot, but that is not the case.I am actually writing this on an IBM ThinkPad, and always own one laptop on each platform (I have no use for desktops, though).The simple fact is that some things are better on the Mac (stability, lack of viruses, user interface) while others are better on the PC (games, compatibility with unusual devices, availability of obscure software titles).The Mac is a better system, in my opinion, for the average home user, but for advanced users it will depend on what you do and what you like.

While Apple does have the better operating system, their hardware is sometimes second-rate.Yes, the 12" PowerBook is lovely, but the aluminum enclosure transmits heat (its a conductor) and while not hot enough to damage anything, it does get hot enough to be uncomfortable on your lap.It is also heavy at 4.6lbs where many 12" laptops, even those with optical drives like the PowerBook weigh less than 4lbs.Finally, my ThinkPad only requires one screw and no dissassembly to replace the hard drive.Seven screws and no dissasembly to replace the keyboard.Keyboards are one of the most common items to fail on laptops, and as programs get larger and people collect more music and video, many users want to upgrade their hard drives, not to mention replace a failed or older drive that is getting noisy.

No computer is perfect, they are all trade-offs.In the grand scheme of things, I give the current 12" PowerBook 4 stars.or the frequent traveller who wants an optical drive built-in, it is not the lightest choice, but it is the best. ... Read more

if you're on a budget; or love burning CD's the EJ100 is an excellent choice, it's got a cool, stylish design, great sound and INCREDIBLE BASS! of note are also the stylish and functional earphones and the remote which fits the bill nicely. overall this is an excellent choice for those only willing to withdraw $50 from their budgets.

much better than had anticipated
I bought this CD player about 5 days ago and while it is very good, there were two things that I thought should be mentioned. One is that every time you pause your CD, it makes a loud, piercing beeping noise until you un-pause it, which is no huge factor, but it can become quite irritating after awhile. Second, the volume is either at a low decible or muted, which is also not huge, but on my previous player, it had a scroll type volume controller, which I think is better than buttons.
But, despite those two factors, Sony's Psyc CD player is a very good piece of equipment.

I have had this walkman for only two weeks and I am definately not returning it. I love music and I wanted a great walkman and I found it. This model is a good buy because the remote is handy and no matter how much the walkman shakes and bumps I still get a crystal clear sound. There is only one con to the sony psyc walkman, the volume buttons on the main thing are too small. The remote volume buttons are bigger than the the ones on the walkman. A versatile choice
If you're looking to make that digital transition from your old 8mm, this one gives you the best of both worlds at an affordable price.This camcorder allows you to digitize all of your old analog tapes.I figured that with all of the additional features it has compared to the TRV280, it was worth 50 more bucks to go with the TRV480.

But if you plan on converting your stack of 8mms, you'd better give yourself some time.Capturing video and burning a "VCD" is a slow process.Depending on the speed of your computer it will probably take several hours per tape.So far I have only tried it with the provided USB cable.I would consider going with another cable and maybe even some other software.I've only had the camera for a couple of days, and so far all I have used it for is converting.I'll update this review in the near future.

Camera is Nice, Software is Useless
I bought my Sony DCR-TRV480 a week ago, to replace a 9-year-old Sony Hi8 model.My primary requirements were for a model that would make it easy to capture aging 8mm tapes on DVD media, and provide 5-10 years of use for more family videos.My first reactions are that the camera will do the job, but that the provided DVD/VCD software is useless.I have not really tested the camera functions yet, beyond generating a few minutes of digital tape to play with for quality comparisons.Thus I must limit my thoughts to the software and the camera interface to my PC.[See my update below.]

My first goal was to capture some minutes of preexisting material on my PC to learn the process and explore the software.After diligently reading the manual, I discovered that to burn DVDs with the Sony software, you must own a Sony VIAO computer.Otherwise you are stuck with direct burning of VCDs, and that without any true editing capabilities.Further, Sony's software will only capture to MPEG-2 format with the use of a firewire/I-link/IEEE 1394 connection (not provided), and does not work with USB2.The direct VCD format is (I believe) MPEG-1.

That said, after an hour of reading and experimenting, I was able to burn a VCD from a preexisting tape using the provided USB2 cable.The process requires starting the application on the PC, then initiating the burn from the camera.(Be patient, it can take 20-40 seconds for the camera and software to shake hands and get to it.)Recording begins at the current location on the tape, puts in chapter marks at fixed (but configurable) time intervals, and quits when it sees a gap on the tape.The camera appears to be in control of the process.The manual does NOT say that the camera will refuse to start the process if you have not inserted a completely new CDR in your burner.It also automatically finishes the disk when blank tape is found, so you cannot add more segments to a half full disk.This will waste a lot of CD space if you have more than a few gaps on your original tapes (something I am very guilty of ;-)).After wasting 5-6 CDRs, I was pretty frustrated.The clincher was a number of computer lockups, apparently from some of the software failing to close when instructed to do so.(My OS is Win2K Pro on a new 2.8Ghz P4).

At this point, I was considering returning the camera.Luckily, my burner (from TDK) came with Roxio's DVDMax software, and I decided to see if it would do better.It did.I spent 5 minutes with the DVDMax tutorial, then set DVDMax to capture the USB2 input stream, and just hit play on the camera.Video worked on the first try, with Audio coming along when I realized that I was pointing the software at the wrong source.It was easy to capture segments, though the two devices are not linked at the control level, meaning that you have to start the camera playback and click the record button on the PC separately, the old fashioned way.The resulting quality from a variety of old tapes (standard 8mm, Hi8, new digital) is adequate for home movies, when set at 640x480 (I do not expect professional quality results, however much I would wish for them, especially with my older analog tapes).The Sony software limited me to a lower resolution when using the USP cable, though I should note that the manual suggests that higher quality is possible with a firewire connection.I am intending to test this in the next week or so, once I can buy the cable.I believe that DVDMax was able to get the higher 640x480 resolution through the USB cable, but I have not confirmed that at this writing.

After building a test movie with DVDMax, and checking it on the system in the living room, I deleted all of Sony's software, except the base driver, and will happily live without it.If you buy Sony, you will want to do the same, and use DVDMax or some other third party tool to capture, manage, and burn your movies on a PC.

UPDATE:I bought the Firewire cable (6 pin to 4 pin) and tested the capture system again with Roxio's DVD Builder.The camera and software linked up immediately, with the PC controlling the camera as needed.The camera delivered 720x480 frames with no problems, giving me a sample from a 15 year old standard 8mm tape, a newer Hi8 tape, and some Digital 8 footage taken with the new camera.Both the analog recordings were much better than the earlier test with the USB2 connection.The Digital 8 recording was excellent, though still not commercial quality.I expect I can get a further improvement on all my material if I get software with better rendering capabilities, which is the next purchase on my list.The Digital 8 recording also automatically separates out segments for editing with each record/standby transition you film, which is a nice feature for the future.The camera cannot do this for either analog format.

I have also been able to test the camera modestly.The zoom is better than my old camera, able to frame a large bird at 150 feet (optically, not digitally).Like all small camcorders, stability when zoomed in is a problem, but no worse than on our old camera.I do not like the zoom control:it is small and very sensitive.You use your right index finger to push/pull a small protruding control.With my large hands, I found it at the edge of awkward.A two-button design would have been much better.As for the rest, only time will tell. ... Pros and Cons, very durable and high quality.
This is a nice sturdy CD walkman that is excellent for exercising like jogging, stair stepping, aerobics...etc. It has a heavy duty snap cover to keep the CD in place so it will never open and fall out if dropped.You could probably throw this thing against the wall and it wouldn't break.The sound is great with extra bass boost x
