3-0 out of 5 stars HP 10B Calculator not up to standards
Having used HP business calculators for nearly 20 years, and having taught over 30,000 people how to use them, I am very disappointed in the HP10BII. It appears to me that HP built a calculator to compete with the [low priced]business calculators on the market. They succeded in building a [low priced]calculator. If it were merely inexpensive, it would be fine, but it's [low priced]. I have never had an HP calculator go bad until I had a 10BII. Less than a year after buying it, half of the display disappeared. After changing batteries - never required in the first year of ownership of any other HP business calculator, the display came back for a day. HP graciously replaced it with a calculator that had a key go bad within two weeks. A third calculator is on the way. HP used to have a reputation of having the most durable and dependable calculators on the market. They have lost that reputation with this piece of junk. I don't know if I will ever again assume that an HP calculator is a good calculator. The only reason I still use it is because the 10B is no longer available and the College for which I teach wants students to use the 10BII.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
I've owned an HP12C calculator for more years than I can count and I love it. I needed to purchase the 10BII because it is the calculator required for the British Columbia Real Estate Exam. Before I received my calculator, I borrowed one from a friend to begin studying. When I received my calculator, I noticed the FV key did not function properly and several of the other keys seemed to function inconsistently. I contacted HP for a replacement because I didn't want to be without the calculator. HP is supposedly sending on via Fed Ex, but in the meantime, I've discovered that on many of the example problems I can input the exact key strokes provided in the work/study book and don't get the correct answer. I can get the correct answer on the 12C and on my friend's calculator, but not on the one I purchased. I'm so frustrated and p.o.'d at this point, I don't want to own a 10BII at all. I'm returning the one I purchased (and the replacement, if it ever gets here) and borrowing my friend's calculator for the test. Then it's back to my 12C.

Shame on HP for producing a calculator of such inferior quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good.
I bought the calculator for my finance class. It works very nicely and it performed all the functions necessary for my class. the reason i gave only 4 stars is because of the buttons which at times do not work as smoothly. otherwise the calculator is fine and very easy to learn and use. I recommend it especially at $31.99.

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic Financial Calculator
Good basic (starting) financial calculator for students

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorest Quality
I purchased this calculator about half a year ago. After a month the keys start sticking and you have to press harder to input the values. After 4 month the LCD started to malfunction. Will never buy an HP calculator again - even cheaper no name calculators are sturdier. ... Read more

RATCHET AND CLANK INFO
Here's some stuff I found about Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal...
There are 18(ish) new weapons, most have 4 levels of upgrade(that's just the FIRST time around...) and the chaos has reached an entirely new level!!! The weapons include the
SEARING PLASMA WHIP-which upgrades to expand its melee range.
RIFT INDUCER-which sends out a mini black hole, very useful when the odds are against you.
INFECTOR-causes enemies to attack one another, upgrades into the Infoecto-Bomb
N60 STORM-sends out a storm, upgrades into a hurricane
by what it looks like, the Zodiac, Lancer, Glove of Doom, and probably the RYNO are back.
There will be just 5 weapons in multiplayer mode to control the (BROADBAND ONLY *_*) chaos.
Characters coming back: Skid McMarxx, Helga the fitness trainer, Big Al, maybe the plumber, and, of course, Captain Qwark.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice for the money, but Tech Support is the pits!
I purchased this notebook for my daughter less than a month ago.She was very happy with it, and I was pleased with what we got for the money. Then the DVD drive began having problems. To make a long story short, after several calls to Toshiba it was finally determined that the drive must be replaced. The closest authorized service center is almost 40 miles away, so we must send it off to Toshiba and be without it for up to 2 weeks.I have dealt with other computer manufacturers who have sent out a technician to correct a problem covered under warranty. Why can't Toshiba do this?Or at least have a few more authorized service providers.I'm not exactly out in the sticks. There are several businesses in my area who could provide this service for Toshiba's customers.

1-0 out of 5 stars A HORRIBLE Experience

Sleek notebook, but that’s the only positive. My absolute worst fears all came true only three weeks after I bought it.

Within three weeks the screen had died on me.Called the warranty service who advised me to send it to the Toshiba depot for repair, as opposed to taking it to a local service center. They assured me that the depot would have all the necessary parts, whereas a service center will have to order them and wait. They also assured me that I’ll have my notebook back in about a week.

Three weeks later, after countless phone calls, and many promises of delivery “next week”, they finally told me that parts are still not available and that it would take two additional weeks before they get them.

I called customer relations several times (get used to 45 minutes on hold, don’t bother leaving messages, they never return calls despite the promise of “within the hour”).Every time I was assured that this time they’ll get it right and that I’ll get my notebook within days.

Needless to say, two weeks passed, and the assurances turned to be meaningless.Customer relations’ only job is to get you off the phone, not to solve your problem. So here I am with a brand new notebook that spent twice as much time in the repair shop than on my desk.I called customer relations again, and asked to speak to someone who will actually do something to solve my problem, perhaps send me a replacement unit.I bought the notebook because I needed it, and I just can’t defer using it indefinitely.Guess what they told me?There’s not such thing as someone who could do something. There is no replacement policy.I’ll just have to wait for the part until it arrives – whenever that is.

A new notebook is not supposed to break right out of the box, but if it does, a respectable manufacturer should stand by their product and make up for the inconvenience to the customer. Toshiba has been utterly disappointing on all counts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Battery + Lots of Junk.....
Hi,

The Batter Performance is Poor. The salesman at Circuity City will BS to get their product sold. It hardly lasts more than 80 minutes. The Laptop is loaded with JUNK. It sux!!!!

I installed Red Hat Linux 9.0 and XP Pro with SP2.
Their are no Network Card Drivers for Linux, so I can easily say forget about your wireless working on Linux. Shame on both Toshiba and Intel for not supporting the same.

The system cannot hibernate nor turn itself off even after installing battry saver options that accompanied the CD.

So I have had a horrible experience. Pretty much whatever I want I don't get.I will never ever BUY Toshiba.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love my Toshiba M45-S331!!
After some research, I was down to Toshiba M45-S331 and Dell 6000. Finally got Toshiba although it was more expensive(especially considering Dell online deals). So far am very satisfied and love its built quality and feel as compared to others in the same price & specs range.

PROS:
1. Great specs for the price
2. TruBrite screen
3. Harman/Kardon speakers
4. Keyboard Layout
5. Bridge-Media Aapter

CONS:
1. PC2700 RAM instead of a DDR2
2. Relatively less Battery Life. (< 3 hrs on a full-charge)

I experienced the FREEZING/LOCK-UP problem on plugging the AC Power Cord and have seen numerous such topics online. Toshiba Support insisted its a hardware problem but was not convinced.

Was finally able to solve this problem by tweaking the Power settings of the Laptop...

1. Go to "Power Management Icon" from your system-icon-tray on bottom-right corner of the screen. (It gives information about Current Power Source, Remaining Battery and Power Profile)

2. Right-click it and select "TOSHIBA POWER SAVER SETTINGS".

3. Click "SETUP OPTIONS" button on bottom-left of the window

4. "UNCHECK" the box marked "Change Power Source Profile Automatically".

Once you have done this....you should hopefully no longer have the freezing or locking problem when you switch to AC Power.

4-0 out of 5 stars new laptop
This is the first time I purchased a laptop and cannot really compare to other laptops. However after a few minutes using this laptop, I realised that there was absolutely no noise coming from the laptop .. incredible .. very quiet!I was annoyed by the tons of software which were installed on it (most of them as trial) .. it took me a whole day to remove everything and install my software.

Screen is wonderful and you have to get used to work on a wide screen. The touch pad is excellent. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's lightweight SRFM80V S2 Sports Walkman fits snugly into a supplied wrap-around arm band for hands-free listening during workouts or travel. The radio's ergonomic S2 Sports design places all function controls for easy access, and its LED is conveniently angled for easy reading when you're on the run. Furthering its suitability for athletic training, the SRFM80V includes a stop watch with a single-button split timer. And, if you'd rather not wear the device on an arm, just affix the built-in belt clip to a waistband.

Radio features include drift-free digital tuning across the weather, TV (VHF channels 2 to 13), and AM/FM stereo bands. And with the SRFM80V, weather is no obstacle--its water-resistant design blocks out moisture, and dirt (though do keep in mind that it's not made for submersion in water). A local/distant (DX) switch optimizes reception of both near and distant stations, and a power-off timer shuts off the Walkman at your preset time to conserve battery life. The arm band includes a safety reflector. Five-direct-key preset memory lets you electronically tune in to any five stations set--even in different frequency bands--with the press of a single, easy-to-reach button, while a separate direct weather button offers one-button tuning of weather bands.

You'll also enjoy conveniences like 25-station preset memory (five for TV, five for weather, 10 FM, and five AM), Sony's low-end-enhancing Mega Bass Sound System, and two-AAA-battery operation (batteries not included). Supplied Sony MDR (micro dynamic receiver) vertical-type sports headphones deliver wide dynamic range and clear sound. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Walkman I've owned, but still room for improvement
I went back and forth between the Sony S2 Walkman and the Nike/Phillips Nike Sport ACT100 for a couple of months. I've read plenty of positives and negatives about both on both Amazon and Epinions. After noticing the ratio of Sonys to Nike/Phillips at my local gym (10 to 1 in Sony's favor), and striking up conversations with a few of these Sony wearers at the gym, I decided to take the plunge with the Sony. Sony throws in a free t-shirt to seal the deal (not that it was a deciding factor for me).

Having previously owned a Sony Walkman, the feel and layout of the Walkman was familiar to me. I was skeptical that the radio would actually stay on my arm (and not slide down) - but after 7 weeks of use, it has yet to slide down my arm. I'm very impressed with this part of the Walkman.

I could do without the Weather button on the Walkman. Sony designed and positioned it in such a way that it looks like one of the presets. I've accidentally hit it a few times as I was scanning through channels. One quick hit of the band button switches it back to FM, so it's not that big a deal.

The display is difficult to read while on your arm. You have to position the radio in such a way that the main part won't rub between your arm and your body when doing cardio, so the display basically sits near the back of your arm. I simply count down the places on the dial (when I'm on 94.7 and want to go to 93.8, I count down by .1 each time I hit the +/- button) - it's easier than straining to see the dial.

Reception - my biggest complaint. I don't really know if the problem is with the Walkman or the gym. I go to the gym around 8:30 every morning. My gym has 8-10 big screen tv's built into the wall that faces the cardio area (it's a huge gym - Lifetime Fitness). Each tv has it's own radio frequency so you can tune in. Personally, I like to go back and forth between CNN on the tv and Howard Stern on the radio. I only get reception for the channel Howard Stern is on if I'm in the back of the cardio area (about 15 machine rows back). Of course, by being that far back, the CNN reception is not as optimal as I'd like. It would be nice if I could receive all stations clearly at the front of the area, as that is where the best machines are!

The Walkman has a nice hold/lock feature that you can set to prevent the channel from changing or the power from going on or off. My previous Walkman did not have this, and I went through batteries like crazy because it would always turn on in my gym bag (I didn't remove the batteries because I didn't want to reset my presets every day). Some people here have complained about the fact that the hold/lock button does not lock the volume. I haven't had the volume accidentally change, so it's not an issue for me. It does sound like some people find that their volume wheel rubs against their arms though.

The headphones take some getting used to. They never feel like they're completely in my ear. I'm constantly readjusting them to get a better fit.

All in all, I'm happy with the Walkman. It's a vast improvement over my previous one, and the arm band makes it great for cardio.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE WORST RADIO EVER
I was so excited about getting this radio for Christmas, found it one day while roaming around the store and ask for it for Christmas. I have had it two days and I get nothing but static. I am trying desperatly to find the receipt so I can take this piece of crap back!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Just okay, but not too many other options
The walkman is ok, however, it doesn't seem there are many other options on the market. The arm band doesn't stay on my arms without sliding off unless I'm wearing about five layers of shirts (and I have 'normal' size arms). The sound quality is good and the buttons are easy to hit as you run. As usual with Sony headphones, I have to replace them every few months.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works fine for me...
I really enjoy using my armband radio. It has worked well for me even on my almost daily three mile runs. It still works even after I got caught in a downpour and got drenched. The earphone cord is a bit long, though. It is hard to find a place for it where it will not be in the way or uncomfortable. Other than that, this is the best product that I have found for myself.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality construction and poor design
I have owned multiple small Sony sports radios. I use them while running and weight lifting. This is by far the worst of the series.

Quality:
1. After less than 6 months one of the tiny metal battery connectors fell out and was lost while changing batteries. Previous similar products have lasted several years.

2. While sound quality was acceptable, the antenna is markedly directional and less powerful than previous slightly larger more oblong Sony units.

Design:
1. Sports radios should have a clear display and buttons and knobs that can be accessed while running, etc. The volume knob is way too sensitive and the tiny buttons with miniscule numbers and characters cannot be readily accessed while running. The unit has plenty of surface area for larger knobs. In addition, only a small portion of the LCD screen is utilized - what were they thinking? Reading glasses should not be required for usage!

In summation, this unit exemplifies poor ergonomics and poor quality - Don't buy one! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
I'm not an audiophile, but I do really enjoy good music. This economically-priced turntable has made it quite easy for me to listen to my small record collection. I was rather young when records went out of style so I know very little about how to operate turntables, but I found this one to be extremely easy to use. Another plus is that it has some built-in amplification and can thus not only be used with a regular pre-amp but can also be plugged directly into the sound input port on a computer for the purpose of digitizing tracks. I'm perfectly satisfied with the sound quality of this turntable, although I suspect audiophiles would probably not be. I don't expect them to be shopping in this price bracket in any case. This unit is perfect for those who like me just have a few records they would like to listen to or digitize and don't want a major hassle or expenditure.

This record player is a great price, good design, and performs exactly how it should. It is easy to set up, and allows for a great sound even with some of the oldest records. If you are looking for a turntable that is relatively inexpensive and simply plays records, then this is the one for you!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a reasonably priced DISPOSABLE product.
Like most SONY products the PS-LX250H performs well. It is also very reasonably priced.

However, like the oil in your car, turntable stylus replacement becomes necessary with time and use. Suddenly, the bargain quickly disappears. The stylus which is only available directly from SONY currently costs $55.52 plus shipping and handling. If SONY would dramatically lower the replacement stylus cost, this turntable would rate 5 stars for it's price to performance value.

This model should serve well if only occaisonal, casual use is foreseen or if you don't mind paying $15,000 for an oil change.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great turntable at a bargain, plays old records great!!
I was pleased to see my new Sony turntable in only 2 days after my order! I set it up and was playing my old records in just 15 minutes! Its sleek design compliments my entire stereo component system. You can't beat it for the price!!

5-0 out of 5 stars very satisfied
ive been wanting to get into vinyl for a while now,and finally took the plunge with this turntable,it plays and sounds great to me.its pretty basic with no bells or whistles to get in the way, just stick the record on,select the size and speed and press start.also the pictures on the saftey warning sheet are hilarious and worth the price of the table. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied
I just recently purchased the HP PSC 1315 from another retailer. It was on sale at a reasonable price. The installation was difficult at first because I also just recently bought a new computer which was already HP Printer-ready which caused the installation CD to not allow the software to be completed. I called Technical Support and talked with a very nice man in India who walked me through the entire process, staying on the line with me until everything was complete, including the printer working properly. It turned out that I needed to eliminate a couple of things on the computer that were preventing the software from being installed. I am very happy with my 1315--it's really superfast with printing the pages (in black ink)! HP could lower the price of the ink cartridges though. I didn't realize how expensive they are just for one cartridge!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Software shut computer down
I bought my HP PSC 1315 at COSTCO without researching. It worked nicely when first installed on my Athlon processor with Windows XP home. The next time I turned on the computer the installed HP software immediately kicked my computer into restart. Very frustrating was the blue screen error message that remained up only long enough for an idiot savant to read.

I have spent too much time on other computer equipment that didn't work and after a few quick checks decided that there must be a printer/scanner that will work without hassle and returned this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Look before you leap
Tried to hook up to a 3yr old Compaq Deskpro EN with windows 2000 professional [could not get program to fully load or configure] & I spent many hours on the phone to HP with NO luck at all.The scanner/copier lid had a lot of play & when I tried to copy a Birth certificate it cut off 1/4in on 3 sides & a 1/2in on the bottom. The only thing I was impressed with was the photo editing abilities. I returned the PSC 1315 for a refund & bought a Cannon MP 370. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Reliable but not efficient
Alternatives:If you've got a Sony device, you generally have to use Memory Stick. Many people have also reported success with less expensive non-Sony brands of Memory Stick, such as Sandisk, though with careful shopping you can get the price difference close enough that you might want to stick with Sony.

Speed:Memory Stick Pro is compact, generally reliable, and designed to be fast enough to capture standard video (480x640) at a high frame rate (30 frames per second). If you plan to use that video mode on your camera, you need to get Memory Stick Pro, rather than standard Memory Stick.(But unless you're a professional, or have a high end camera, you probably won't benefit much from the more expensive Pro High Speed format.)So this M.S. Pro version is a good bet for most users.

Capacity:If you're a Sony camera user, you get used to paying more for everything. But the MagicGate "feature" - designed to allow copyright protection on Sony's music players, but useless to camera users - and the formatting waste about 10% of the capacity of the card. And unfortunately, at the moment all Pro cards also have MagicGate. So as noted, the usable capacity is about 460MB.

For a Sony DSC-P200, that will allow you to store photos as follows:
- at 7 megapixels, 141 pictures in fine, with low compression (or 277 in standard compression)
- at 5MP, 194 (or 365) pictures
- at 3 MP, 311 (or 554) pictures

As you can see, 1 MP uses up about 0.47MB of storage at fine or about 0.24MB at standard compression - so you can do the math on other combinations if you like.Other Sony cameras will have similar, but slightly varying, results.

Some cameras make it easy to switch resolutions, allowing you to stretch the capacity by varying the settings as needed. For example, on a 7MP camera, you can take some pictures at 3MP or 5MP and still get very good quality, depending on the size of the prints you plan to make.

Bottom Line:This Memory Stick Pro is a good product that would be lot better if it were competitively priced (relative to other flash memory) and didn't waste capacity on a feature most buyers don't need. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality, 100% Accessible, INCREDIBLE RESULTS!
When I was first looking for a new video camera to make my films on, I wasnt even looking at MiniDV. I was actually looking at the $3,000.000 Canon professional DV camera. After hours of searching online, I finally found a video camera that I didnt even expect to buy. The DCR HC90. And, man, am I glad that I bought it! I was really looking for something sleek and professional, with exceptional quality. So I knew that I had to go with Sony. I read previous reviews for this camera, and I was wondering how such amazing quality could come out of something so small. And I didnt even totally realize how small the camera was until I recieved it. I have relatively large hands and the camera is the size of my palm! The camera has a very durable and sleek look to it. If this were a cell phone, it would be like Motorolla's RAZR v3 phone. It is so tiny and compact! The supersteady shot is AMAZING! I was thinking I was going to need a dolly for the set of my new movie, but it turns out that I didnt need one, because the steady shot is so perfect, it naturally looks like I'm panning and dollying. IT'S SO PERFECT! The LCD screen gives off ABSOLUTELY CRYSTAL CLEAR PICTURE! And its in TRUE 1.85:1 Widescreen! Which is very helpful for me, considering I am making professional films to send out to big time festivals. The special lens, which does auto focus for you, is absolutely INCREDIBLE! When I hooked my camera up to my TV (which isnt even a hi-def tv), I was blown away with how crystal clear the picture was, and how perfect the focus was. When I was watching the video footage I filmed for my new feature, my friends walked in, and asked me what DVD I was watching because the quality is so unbelievably perfect! All of the features are listed on the camera's LCD touch screen, which impressed many of my cast and crew on the set of my film. (I reccomend a screen protector, just because you are going to constantly touch the screen.) The touch screen is 100% perfect with no flaws! It even has little cartoons that show you what the camera will do! Absolutely stunning! I also bought the compatible 4 channel wide stereo microphone. THE AUDIO IS CRYSTAL CLEAR! YOU COULD LITERALLY HEAR A PIN DROP! The compatiblity between the microphone and camera is exceptional! The camera lets you choose what type of audio you want to record, and records it in its original, pristine condition. It sounds EXACTLY like if you were back at your filming location. And looks exactly like you ARE THERE!
This camera does EXTREMELY well with computer hookups for digital editing. My previous camera lost alot of quality in the camera to computer transfer, and with the HC90, I dont lose one speck of color, or one beat of sound! ITS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! THIS CAMERA IS A MUST BUY FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A HIGH QUALITY, EXTREMEMLY EASY TO USE, AND REWARDING VIDEO CAMERA! My new film actually looks like it was filmed on 35mm, and it is impressing many people when I pull out the camera, they are blown away with the exceptional quality of this little camera!
WORTH EVERY PENNY!

5-0 out of 5 stars Camcorder Works Like a Dream
I picked this little gem up at the Sony store less than a month ago. They had all their camcorder models lined up on the shelf and the HC90 stood out like a Beauty Queen on a Catwalk. The overall design is an aesthetic masterpiece and fits ever-so perfectly in the palm of one's hand. It is super light weight and you can carry it around effortlessly for hours (it is compact enough to fit in your trouser pocket). All the basic controls are easily accessible to thumb and fingers, and it couldn't be easier to operate.
This is my first camcorder so I was under the impression that I would have some intensive study of the included manual ahead of me. I was mistaken. All I had to do was skim the first few pages and I was off and running (albeit in Easy Mode).
I have read some critical reviews of Sony camcorders bemoaning their compatibility with third party components, such as PC's. Nothing further could be from the truth! I own a Mac Powerbook. I took a few snaps in Picture Mode and the USB cable loaded them seamlessly into iPhoto. I picked up a cheap 4 to 6 pin Firewire cable at RadioShack, connected the device to my Powerbook and iMovie instantly downloaded the widescreen video footage without any prompting. And it was the same ease of operation in connecting it to my TV, my VCR and my DVD player. I can honestly say that I have never encountered a piece of high technology that operated with such ease and joyful simplicity. I have already shot hours of video without further consulting of the manual and the included software disc remains in its sealed envelope. This little gem seems almost organic in its construction and operation.
At 3.3 MP, the still photos are quite excellent and the panoramic option is a real cool feature. The video is superb. I live out in the forest and I can only describe the image quality as true to life. The built in microphone is excellent. When I reviewed some footage shot out in the swamp it was as though the bull frogs were singing right in my living room! The only drawback is that it amplifies anything stronger than a light breeze, but I found that this can be minimized by closing the LCD display and taking advantage of the camcorders sleek exterior design.
The battery life can also prove irksome if you like extended shootings. But for a modest investment you can purchase a battery with twice the life.
Do I like my new DCR-HC90 Camcorder? No! I absolutely LOVE it!!!It is so portable and easy to use that you can just take it everywhere without even thinking about it, and it attracts looks of admiration and envy wherever it goes.
The one I bought was the last one in stock. The salesman whom attended to me said the model was selling like hot cakes, and even though it was the priciest item on display, they were literaly flying off the shelves into the eager hands of happy customers. It is easy to see why.I have a Canon G6, a fine device in its own right. Since I acquired my HC90, it is more or less collecting cobwebs in a forgotten corner of my cabin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, HI Res., 16:9Camcorder
I did quite a bit of homework before purchasing the HC-90. I wanted High quality DV in a 16:9 format. I own a 42" Sony LCD HDTV and I wanted sharp, high quality performance.

Other factors for me: Solid build (exterior), and good quality parts (interior). Firewire, size, ease of use, MiniDv, and price.

Things that I got but didn't expect:

size- When the package arrived, I was surprised at the size of the box it came in. It is small. When I opened the box, I was even more surprised at the size of the camera. I was expecting something compact but this little camera is small. I own a JVC MiniDV camera and it is about twice the size and 4 times as heavy. I wanted a small camera but thought that I would have to sacrifice some functionality for size. Well, I didn't. I don't think that I would want a smaller camera or it would start becoming difficult to push the correct buttons without looking around the camera first.

Still shots- I have read some comments that this camera doesn't take quality still pictures. I didn't buy it for that but this camera takes really nice photographs and in 16:9 format so it is just like having a wide angle lens. If you email your images or make DVD slide shows, this camera can take some quality shots. I have email some of the pictures to family and I had to resize them all to make them a lot smaller in dimension and subsequently, the images became sharper and details stood out. The flash works just as well as any other still digital camera I have owned. More than adequate for emailing or sharing on the web. I will be leaving my Olympus still camera behind on family outings because the HC-90 can take its place.

Motor function- I was simply amazed at the motor and function of the motorized parts in this camera. This thing is fast. Really fast. My JVC is a 3 year old piece of clunky crap compared to the HC-90. When you are playing back a movie and want to scan forward quickly, there is no waiting around for it to change gears, it does it instantly. The push button LCD is very responsive and the camera will take commands without clunking and whining. It rewinds very quickly. It sounds solid and it performs. I am most pleased with this surprise.

Things I expected (the good)

The video quality- So far it has been awesome. As I said earlier, I own a 42" Sony Widescreen and to see the entire screen filled with video is a delight for me. The colors are rich and the details are fine enough to satisfy me. The camera seems to handle 16:9 perfectly. My wife was astonished at the quality when she first saw it. I used the camera in low light mainly. Dimly lit rooms with lamps. The steady shot works great, giving a flowing look to video when you are walking around. The colors remained bright in low lit areas and in the sun, colors are rich. I messed around with some of the features and they all look good. My wife is a point and shoot person and I taught her to push the easy mode button and she was off. No teaching her how to use it. Common sense is all you need.

Dumping DV to my MAC G4 PowerBook- I plugged it in via firewire, IMovie picked up the camera instantly and I began dumping DV as well as editing. That was all there was to it. I haven't even looked at the software that Sony sent. IMovie also recognized the 16:9 ratio and set up my project accordingly. Quick Time and the Sorenson 3 codec had to be fed the aspect ratio manually. I have to figure out pixel sizes with a calculator. I plugged in the USB cable to the camera and my MAC and the MAC mounted the volume and imported my images flawlessly. I also did the same with my WINXP PC. Just plugged in the USB cable and Voila. It showed up as a new drive in My Computer.

I also used the HC90 for ICHAT on my MAC laptop. The guy on the other end said he got great video from me. The chat session was between Hawaii and Ireland.

Build Quality - Awesome. There is NO creaking (like my JVC). The camera is ergonomically great for my hands and my wife also agrees. All of the buttons are in the right place. The touch panel LCD is wonderful for me. It is solid and I don't worry about it ripping off when opening it and when you close it, it makes a satisfying thud like it was meant to be slammed shut in a hurry. The top loading of the tapes is great. No need to lay the camera on its side or anything like that. I can change the tape while the camera is plugged in to fire wire and the power simultaneously. The camera is very light but built very, very well. I am totally pleased with the build quality. It feels like a Sony. The zoom button is light or easy to manipulate but it can either zoom slowly or very quickly. It is quite sensitive and took a little getting used to. My old JVC felt like it was going to crumble in my hand and the mechanisms seemed so fragile but this camera feels like it can be handled with less apprehension.

Things that could be an issue but not as of yet.

The pry open plastic doors for cable plug in access - To charge the battery, you have to pry open one of the plastic covers to access the inputs. I can understand that these covers protect the jacks from dirt, etc. Some have said that they may easily become detached in the future. I beg to differ. My JVC has the same type of protective covers and I have not broken them off in 3 years. I was always prying on them because I am always plugging firewire, etc in to the ports. They never broke and most likely never will. I think the hinge is that annoying plasic that never breaks no matter how much you flex it. The more you use the covers, the more plyable they becaome and easier to access. The sony covers are good quality and I doubt these will ever be an issue. It is somewhat inconvienient to charge the camera because you have to open the cover first. The stand alone chargers are not that expensive and I purchased a spare battery so it might be worth getting the charger.

Memory Stick Pro - I spent a bunch of money for a Memory stick original for my Sony Still camera and it will not work in this DV Camcorder. The little one that they sent in not adequate. Looks like I will have to buy another one soon. I wish I did not.

Lens cover - This camera has a shutter that opens when you turn the power on so that you don't have to fiddle with lens covers. I absolutely love this feature but, dirt, sand, crap can collect in that area even though the lens will be protected. There are threads there for lenses and filters. There should have been a plain glass lens there to occupy and protect that area from the elements. I will most likely get a cheap filter to screw in there and protect the fine threads.

All in all, I love this little camera and I am sure that my family will enjoy it for years to come. Between this, my 12" MAC PowerBook, my 42" Sony HDTV, and living in Hawaii, I think I have what I need for ample amounts of fun.

2-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, but still not worth it
I admit it; I was drawn by the low price like a moth to the flame. I've had fairly good experiences with Sony products in the past and expected quality. Well, as the saying goes, "One gets what one pays for."

I live in a moderately large metropolitan area and have never had many problems with reception of local FM stations until now. Unless I have the sensitivity switch set to "Dx" (which dramatically reduces the sterio separation and apparently increases the background "hiss" or S/N ratio) I can barely receive anything at all. Even using this setting, reception is marginal at best.

Unless your expectations are lower than mine, I recommend that you purchase another headphone radio.

One other thing--I read the review of the woman who reports to use this set to receive television signals. I have no idea what she's referring to; I don't believe Sony markets this device as anything other than an AM/FM receiver.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding headphone - the best on the market today!
This is by the far the best AM/FM headphone radio I've owned and I have owned quite a few. I searched every electronic store in my area trying to find a headphone like this and could only find it through amazon.com.

The clarity of the radio reception is excellent. Having 20 preset stations makes it so easy to switch stations when you don't like the song playing on the current station. This is also the most comfortable headphone radio I've had. I can wear it for hours and it never gets uncomfortable. I also can't deal with having the wired headphones or the ones you wear on your arm, so this one is ideal.

I actually liked this headphone so much I bought two more, one to keep at work and one to give to my husband. He likes it as much as I do.

For the people who gave this product such poor ratings, you must be abusive with your things. I use my headphone so much and switch stations constantly and I have never had any problems with it.

I highly recommend this headphone for anyone wanting a reliable, comfortable, great reception radio, with no wires and the ease of changing stations at the touch of a button.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Reception
I returned this headset after 5 minutes of use. AM and FM reception are horrible despite antenna. Could not listen to a strong local station without constantly turning my head. Very disappointed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't Last Long
I bought one of these and it worked great for about a month. Then the right channel started to cut out, probably from a loose connection. Now I'll have to send it back to Sony.

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable, Comfortable SRF-HM33 Walkman
I have used this same SRF-HM33 Sony Walkman radio for 2 or 3 years. It is fantastic in terms of comfort and clarity while jogging. I like everything built into the headset...I can't stand having to deal with a cord. Very reliable and well made. Only 2 minor problems: every once in a while the battery door will open and I sometimes forget how to preset the stations.

What I would like to find is this exact same headset with a 128MB or 256MB MP3 player built into it...and keep the FM/AM radio. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good start (hopefully it will get better)...
Yesterday I purchased one of these units new from Best Buy.When I got the unit home, it was DOA!It powers up, however it does not recognize any discs at all (I receive a "Non-playable Disc" message or something similar after the disc "Loads" for 3 minutes or so).I purposely purchased the Toshiba instead of spending less on an off brand (Insignia or Polaroid).According to the associate at Best Buy, Insignia is manufactured by Toshiba.Perhaps I should have saved $30 and purchased the off brand.Although, based on the units playing on display the Toshiba had the best picture.Hopefully tonight when I exchange the unit I will receive a fully functional one (I am going to make them demonstrate that the replacement functions before I leave the store!)

1-0 out of 5 stars worst picture!
This dvd player has the worst picture quality I have ever seen! I thought I was upgrading when I sold my panasonic 5 inch portable player to buy this pile! I looked at many 7" players and chose to go with the toshiba as the price was very good. but best buy did not have one on display at the time so I could not see the picture quality. When I got home I threw in jurassic park and was quickly shocked by the very poor picture. everything was blurry. and the thing made very loud sounds from inside, somthing my panasonic did not do as it was very quiet. so I took it back to best buy for a refund. so if you dont care about picture quality and only care about price then buy it but if your like me and expect the best then stay away from this junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars My first and a great start
I bought the Toshiba P1600 for an upcoming trip with my sons. What a nice surprise. Well made, easy to use, picture quality "rocks" and the dual headphone feature is a nice addition. Now to get it back from the kids so I can enjoy this little gem!! My only issue is the sound level. Buy some amplified portable speakers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy with Toshiba!!
First of all, I must tell you that this is the first portable dvd player I have purchased, but I have looked around and did alot of research.I paid attention to the reviews people have made on all the models I was interested in.The reason I purchased this model was because when I researched the sdp1400 model, there were many good reviews. This sdp1600 is just the next generation of, for lack of a better word, cheaper models.I must say that this is, in no way, made cheaply....but the price would sure reflect that very thing.I bought this for $199.99, and so far well worth the money.
The picture quality is great.I like the fact that there are dual headphone jacks, the 3d virtual sound is a nice feature...and you can turn it off if you choose to do so.I also like that I can plug my digital camera into it and see my pictures while traveling.I'm sure there are other features that I have not utilized yet....mainly because I don't feel the need for them, but some of you may want those extra features.
None of the movies I played in it stopped or skipped, and that includes movies that ahve been 'burned'.
One thing I do wish for is that the speakers were a bit louder.
I hope you are as happy as I am with my purchase, should you choose to buy this model. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If reception is important, this radio is a great deal
So many small, inexpensive radios are just junk.We have a local FM station whose signal is so weak that most radios won't pick it up.When I needed a new radio, I went around to local shops trying several on that station. This is the only one I found that brought in a strong signal. It has good tone quality as well. The weather broadcast is fair but the TV stations come in strong.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Reception for the Price
I will echo many of the other comments here by writing that this radio packs great reception, versatility of frequencies, and long battery life into a perfect size case, similar to a small box of rice.Sony could have improved on this product by including UHF television reception, and perhaps a better speaker although this is limited by the convienient size.Overall, this is a wonderfully portable, great sounding radio for the price.I own three of these radios: one at work, one in the bath, and one in my shed (for yard work).

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Radio
I have tried a lot of different portable radios for around the house use.And I like this one the best, I get great reception on AM, I don't use FM, Weather or the TV bands very much.I bought it to listen to AM.And I was not disappointed. I am receiving New Orleans, Chicago, New York City, Atlanta and Denver in the evenings, BTW I live in the Midwest. If this is the type of radio your looking for you should like it. I had the CC Radio, it worked ok, but it was so big that it was hard to lug around.I still have the GE Superradio, but I dont use it much because of size. And neither seem to bring in stations any better than this little Sony does. Digital radios use batteries up too fast. The batteries last a long time in this Sony.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good deal
we have found this product to work well, and recommend it without reservation -- great to have ac and battery power sources and price is right

5-0 out of 5 stars The best (reasonably priced) portable I've yet found ...
First of all, I didn't buy this multiband Sony for the weather, rather for the TV reception. in addition to the excellent am/fm tuning. It just boils down to the fact that sometimes I'm in a room such as the kitchen preparing a meal and still want to listen to the likes of Charlie Rose on PBS. Btw, this is my second Sony ICF36 - one for use in the kitchen and one for the bathroom.

As to the reception, having had approximately half a dozen TV/AM/FM radios over the last 25 years, this one beats them all, especially in clarity of reception. No, it's not perfect but far better than you'd expect for one in this price range.

An added bonus is it takes 4 AA batteries. Since I do a lot of digital photography, I simply use rechargeable batteries interchanged from my Olympus digital camera and get about 10 to 15 hours play time on a charge. This way, when I move the radios from room to room, there are no cords to worry about or get in the way.

Lastly, with the long play time the batteries seem to give, it makes a terrific power outage radio as you can at least hear the sound on that favorite TV show of yours when the full size TV's without power.

All in all, I think you'll you'll like the Sony ICF36. Obviously I do :-)

1-0 out of 5 stars rubbish sony writers
Don't buy sony dvd writers . I bought one . it will hardly write to anything, , I have made lots of coaters!. e-mailing Sony only produces standardised responses and no real help. I have an expensive paperweight, having replaced it for a decent writer

4-0 out of 5 stars great product
this is a great product.

I have no problems in burn DVDs data films etc..

Very easy to install and it was reconized by my XP.

I really recommend this product for everyone, I have a Sony CD-RW for more than 5 years and is still working nicely. I hope this DVD drive will do the same.

Thumbs UP for Sony and this DVD-RW.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has worked flawlessly
My wife bought me the drive (yes, I dropped the hint on the make/model -well, if by hinting you mean printed it out on 11x17, leaving it on her desk, covering her keyboard :) )
Anyway, it was purchased in the middle of December 2004, and has more than paid for itself by making DVDs, backing up my favorite DVDs (special software in some cases, of course) etc.I have had absolutely NO problems with it.I use name-brand blanks (FujiFilm, Sony, Memorex, etc) CDs and DVDs.Its worked like a top.The only coasters I made were my fault, thanks to tinkering. If you leave the defaults alone, you should be fine. But the drive has capabilities to play with, if you so desire.
I kick it along with a 2ghz Windowz 2000pro machine sporting half a gig of RAM (next order of business, more RAM).
I'd buy another in a heartbeat.No problem.
Note, its not my first Sony Drive, but I've also owned quite a few of drives from various manufacturers (including generic CD burners, etc), and I tend to push things to their limits. If it can break, I'll certainly break it.If I break it, and its my fault, then I don't blame the manufacturer (but it had better be able to do what they say it can).
Questions?feel free to write!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Drive
This drive has exceeded my expectations. It is fast, reliable, comes with an excellent software bundle, and is VERY competitively priced.

After reading some other negative reviews, I have a couple of hints. First, use NAME BRAND blank media. You would be amazed at how much of a difference this makes in compatibility. Phillips, Memorex, TDK.... these are the brands you want to go with. Some of the lesser known brands do not write properly and work in fewer TV dvd units. Keep in mind that the quality/features of your TV dvd player may be a factor in whether or not burned dvd's will work at all. Second, if you are having problems burning/verifying a dvd, make sure it is set to 8x speed, as most media available right now is only good up to that speed. If you try to set the speed at 16x you will undoubtably mess up your burn.

So... in other words... buy high quality media, keep your settings where they should be, and have fun using this drive, because it is great!
