5-0 out of 5 stars Small But Powerful
The iPod mini is built from the ground up as a portable device for people with fast-paced lives. It's small and lightweight physical dimensions are perfectly suited to be being placed in a pants or shirt pocket without being a burden.

But don't let its light weight fool you into thinking the iPod mini is a pushover. The 4GB hard drive (3.7 GB actual) can hold about 1,000 songs - enough to last almost three full days. The installed software includes four games; a calendar; a notepad; a contact database; a clock; backlight with timer; an alarm clock; and the abilities to customize the main menu; create playlists; and rate songs. All this is in addition to being able to be used as an external hard drive!

However, the most revolutionary aspect of the iPod mini (aside from it's size and weight) is its control interface. Incorporating the 'Menu', 'Pause/Play', 'Forward' and 'Back' buttons directly to the touch sensitive scroll wheel not only creates simplicity from a design standpoint, but form a user one as well. Accessing these controls is a breeze. Thankfully the touch wheel is designed well enough that accidental pressing of a control is unlikely to occur since you have to press down a bit to activate the button. I'd actually like to see the entire iPod line adopt this interface.

Some people complain that the iPod mini is only slightly cheaper than the 20 GB iPod and offers a lot less storage space. But what you loose in storage space you gain in portability. It is also important to consider that compared to other players of its size and weight, the iPod mini offers much more storage space, many more features, and a better music jukebox in iTunes 4.0.

I want to carry the most music I can in the smallest possible device that offers the best interface and features. For me, that device is unquestionably the iPod mini. If you have similar demands of a portable music device, the iPod mini is sure to become a permanent accessory to your lifestyle.

4-0 out of 5 stars SO CuTE
The funny thing is some people waited for over 3 months to get their mini ipod's, 5 days before christmas my mom went to target to get started on her christmas shopping, and she got the last blue one! The mini ipod is the cuttest thing i have ever gotten in my life, and one of the best gifts! my sister who has a dell music player and for the same price got 9,000 songs laughed at me! grated dell has a better deal, but who really needs 9,000 songs? the mini ipod is light weight so when i go running or i am working out i can't even feel it. although the battery life isn't what it says to be the ipod is still wonderful!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I got my pink ipod mini about a week ago as sort of a pre-Christmas present. Anyway I love it. With the itunes cards which target also sells it is really easy to download music. I would like to suggest that anyone who does get a ipod mini should get an ipod dock, not a mini ipod dock. The mini ipod's are not plastic on the outside like the regular ipods. The ipod mini's have a brushed metal outer case and if you use the ipod mini with the ipod mini dock, your beautiful new ipod will get all scratched up on the front. I hope this helps anyone thinking of buying one of the ipods or mini ipods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mini Ipod..definately worth it.
When I first saw the mini Ipods i feel in love with the different colors. I decided to ask for one for my birthday, I got it. I have fallen in love with it. At first I wanted a regular Ipod, but the regular ones hold a TON of music, and since I get bored with songs easily, having a smaller one would make more sense considering my CD collection is quite small since I usually just listen to music on the computer. And when you think about, 1,000 songs.. that is A LOT of songs. You can also just delete the songs you don't want anymore and put new ones on it.

I must say me being a 14-year old girl and being absolutely obsessed with the color pink also persuaded me in asking for a pink mini Ipod. White is just boring.. to me that is. This review probably isn't very helpful, but mini Ipod all the way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Faster processor in the user-reliable bargain-priced iMac G5
Apple is, quite simply, the best and most innovative computer manufacturer. A recent article in Consumer Reports identified Apple computers as the most reliable computers and PC Magazine user surveys have reached the same conclusion. Furthermore, PC Magazine regularly designates the iMac G5 as the best all around desktop computer. Now the ultra-reliable, user friendly iMac G5 computers all have faster G5 processors than last year's models.

Yes, most people use Windows-based PCs, but do you really want to be just another member of the PC herd -- with all of the problems and frustrations presented by Windows-based PCs (including regular virus attacks) -- or are you looking for a computer which is user friendly, seldom crashes, and is virtually impervious to viruses? If these virtues are more important to you than being one of the crowd, please seriously consider buying an Apple computer. This new iMac G5 is Apple's latest and fastest iteration of the innovative iMac series of compact, user friendly computers at reasonable prices. Like all G5-powered Apple computers this new iMac is a very fast computer -- more than twice as fast as a Pentium 4 with the same clock speed -- and has a state-of-the-art 64-bit processor. All computers will have 64-bit processors some day but very few PCs, except for Apple G5s, have them at this time. If you're looking for a fast, versatile, easy to use computer, want to stop worrying abut virus attacks, and are willing to try something off the beaten path, you'll love this elegant and now faster new iMac G5. If you want a larger monitor and even faster processor check out the 20" iMac G5. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Panther is a lot better
DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

It is a rip off compared to Panther (10.3)

4-0 out of 5 stars Better choice than current Jaguar
If you want to get some work done erase the forty thousand plus OSX files off your hard drive and install OS 9.2.2. There simply is no reason to let the Unix-Aqua-Next hack job hurt your productivity any more. Sure you won't be able to run a few iSofts, but none of them are complete solutions and all are riddled with oversights and nasty user interfaces.

This software works on all Macs currently sold by Apple. Unfortunately Apple is threatening to release Macs that will not run anything below 10.3. That and the huge Apple price premium should be enough to discourage the few remaining Mac loyalists into jumping ship.

4-0 out of 5 stars A classic, missed system
Ahh... Mac OS 9 brings Mac users back to the days of the classic interface - in days before aqua. This OS is, in my opinion, possibly the best that Apple ever did except in stability.

Mac OS X resembles the classic ideas of Macintosh Operating system. However, it does not have the same overall feel. OS X is not as "snappy" as Mac OS 9, especially on G3 computers. Nine is much more easily customizable in looks than OS X. I'm sorry, but the aqua interface is not very pleasing to me.

Now for you older users. I would definitely suggest this as an upgrade to OS 8 both functionality and compatibility.

Overall, Mac OS 9 is a great system to have around. Even if you are all-out OS X but have used "classic" operating systems, keep OS 9 around because it sometimes feels good to come home to this wonderful interface.

4-0 out of 5 stars Functional "Classic Mac OS"
Yes, yes, I know that Apple and Steve Jobs want everyone to focus on OS X as the way of the future. But if you have hardware and/or software that won't do OS X, or if you just prefer to do your updating incrementally, OS 9 is not a bad place to be at all.

Finding OS 9 for sale these days is a bit tricky, though, so I was quite pleased to find it here on Amazon -- good luck finding it listed on, say, the Apple Store!

So if you're running, say, an older G3 model on version 8 of the OS, and don't want to (or can't) take the OS X plunge yet, I suggest that you grab a copy of OS 9. It's quite a bit more stable and functional than its predecessors.

4-0 out of 5 stars 9.1 best of all 9's
MacOS 9.1 installed without any problems for me on a Rev A iMac with numerous USB devices attached. Overall it is a great upgrade. There is still an issue with Multiple User's and Appearance preferences, but Mac OS X should eliminate that. It's even a little faster than 9.0.4. What a concept! An upgrade that actually makes things faster rather than slower. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Apple Power Mac Dual 2.7GHz G5
This is the new version of the Power Mac G5. I currently own the G5 with the dual 2.5GHz in it but now I'm willing to upgrade. They have four versions of this Power Mac right now: Single 1.8GHz, Dual 2.0GHz, Dual 2.3GHz, and Dual 2.7GHz. They have lowered the prices too which is nice. For some reason I like to go with the most expensive because if you think about it in the long run I would rather spend money on a exceptional computer with technology not even seen on most computers today and have it for 10 years. AMD and Intel are now making dual core processors but they can't stand up to the G5's dual processor capability. No Windows desktop can even have 8GB of RAM either. Most Windows PCs I see today have up to 4-5GB of RAM. This one had 512MB RAM which I would upgrade to atleast 2GB. 250 GB Hard Drive is good but I would recommend getting a 500GB or 800GB hard drive so you'll know you will always have room to store things. It has DVD+/-RW drive upgraded from the DVD-R drive from the previous model. This is better because now the drive can be rewritable. I love the design of the G5 and I can't wait what Apple will do with the G6 or their next power house PC. It comes with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger which is brand new to the market. It's better than the 10.3 no doubt. I haven't upgraded to it the 10.4 yet but I am soon since I am getting this G5. Everything from this model I have heard about is awesome and I can't wait until I pick mine up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Power Mac Yet
This is by far the best power mac yet introduced. wow, what speed. but where is the promised 3GHz???? where is the PCIe? maybe next time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not A 3Ghz but thanks for the heads up Amazon

Cheers.

1-0 out of 5 stars I hate Microsoft, but it's a Microsoft world
First of all, let me say I love Apple and dislike Microsoft. I would always choose to support Apple over Microsoft. If you are one of those people that never has to share documents with a Windows friend, then AppleWorks will be fine. I don't think it's as good as Office (or Word or Excel, if you aren't buying the whole Office suite,) but for the price, I'd buy AW instead.

Anyway, my frustration level with AW has reached the breaking point, and now I'm going to have to go out and do what I never wanted to do- buy Microsoft Office. AW is supposedly compatible with Excel and Word documents, but AW has often converted incoming Excel and Word documents to junk, if it is even able to open the Microsoft documents at all. Also, if you want to save an AW spreadsheet as an excel document, don't expect it to transfer your work nicely. Simple data cells it can handle, but charts- no way. As a business school student, it's essential that I am able to send and receive Word and Excel documents without issues. AppleWorks does not do the job.

It breaks my heart to recommend a Microsoft product over an Apple product, but until Apple makes a truly compatible alternative to Office, I have no choice but to recommend that my fellow Mac users buy Office instead of AppleWorks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice system but...
I like apple works, and it gets me by for my needs at home but for business I need Windows XP. I like the simple interface, and the straight forward approach. I don't like the spell check, and I have had some troubles saving files in a format where they could be opened easily on a pc. Outside of that I'm a huge Apple Fan and I hope they make the necessary changes to get this thing going right. :)

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better choices available
AppleWorks isn't really a bad product - it's been around for quite a few years, previously as ClarisWorks - but it desperately needs an update. For example, version 6.2.7 still doesn't take full advantage of features found in Mac OSX. Furthermore, it has some rather strange interface quirks and lacks some important features (spellcheck as you type, for example). My recommendation: spend an extra $50 and buy Microsoft Office v.X for student and teacher, which is a much better software package. Another option is to buy a drawing/layout software prgoram such as The Print Shop for Mac OSX, by MacKiev, which offers excellent design and print capabilities for all sorts of projects (labels, greeting cards, calendars, etc). Hopefully Apple will update AppleWorks someday soon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars not just for Pink minis
This classy leather case with secure spring steel, leather-covered clip protects the screen of your iPod and the design lets the color of your iPod show through in the front. Not just for pink mini iPods, blue, green and silver iPods will also look cool contrasting against the pink leather. The pink mini iPods are more of a lilac than a true pink, anyway - and the pink leather is a baby pastel pink - so there is a slight contrast either way. You can charge your iPod while it's still in the case and the fit is snug so the iPod won't fall out, even if you hold it upside down. 5-0 out of 5 stars Steve Jobs wants you to be cool!
Apple's always at the top of their game - whatever game that is - and this top of the line iPod is no exception. Let's pause a moment for the analysis:

40 GB. That's roughly 40,000 megabytes. Using today's AAC or mp3 music encoding technology, a 72 minute album rarely consumes more than 80 megabytes - even at near-CD quality. What does that mean to you? Yeah, you did the math right - 500 albums. You could sit there and play music 24/7 for nearly a month without repeating. Or head down to your local club and be DJ for the night - just slip the iPod out of your pocket and plug into the sound system!

OK, so it'll hold all your music. But what the numbers don't tell you is that it holds your music in STYLE. About the size of a stack of 8 credit cards, and only a trifle heavier, this'll fit on your belt, in your sleeve, in your backpack's cellphone pocket, in your purse, or wherever else you want to put it with no hassle. The controls lock so jostling around doesn't accidently push buttons. And what cool buttons they are - the 'scrollwheel pad' and no-click touchbuttons make for an easy, fun and durable interface.

Also, the thing just looks darn cool - with its white front, silver back, and little backlit screen, it's got instant 'bling bling' credibility, day or night.

It comes with everything you need - belt clip, earbuds, dock to recharge the battery and transfer music over from your Firewire- or USB 2.0-equipped computer. But I'd recommend two additions: first, the optional FireWire cable makes this into a portable 40G hard drive, highly useful in today's information age. (I carry a copy of the human genome around on mine.) Second, ditch the included headphones and grab a pair of the Sony neodymium-magnet earbuds, model #MDR-EX70LP. They transform your iPod from merely great to INSANELY great.

Cool tunes to ya, my friend!

5-0 out of 5 stars There simply is no better
Most MP3 player's are the complete and utter waste of money, as they cannot store enough music to encompass a single CD, and transferring songs takes eons. The iPod is simply amazing as it can store 500+ CDs (8000+ songs) for the 40GB version, and transfer songs roughly 10 to 12 times faster through the zippy Firewire or USB2.0 connection.

I got the one for Windows, originally bundled with MusicMatch Jukebox. That program has one of the more horrific and cumbersome interfaces that I have ever used. Fortunately, with iTunes for Windows this is no longer an issue. The iTunes program is the ONLY commercial FREE software that allows one to rip CDs in using MP3 format. It works beautifully for archiving music and seemlessly sychronizing with the iPod, and of course being Apple, it has an wonderfully intuitive interface.

Besides the highlights mentioned, another nice tidbit is that there are PDA-like facilities to view notes, calendar info, and contact info. I export my contacts in Outlook to VCard format (.vcf) and copy them to the contact folder on the iPod, and voila, I got contact info.

One uncanny thing about the iPod is that is supports many languages including C-J-K (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) for both displaying music files in those languages, but also contact information. This makes it the **ONLY** device that can display all those languages for PDA purposes and music playback purposes. The iTunes for Windows also supports C-J-K languages as well, making it the **ONLY** MP3 player (except the privacy invading WMP) that can work with those languages.

My only minor complaint is that I wish there was more developer information so that I could more easily develop programs for the iPod.

5-0 out of 5 stars Battery Problem Solved!
Apple, like any company, has issues. Their products break and they fix them...most of the time. Bottom line is that my iPod had gone through hell about 5 times, and they've replaced it quickly every time.
Now, this battery thing seems to be the biggest issue people are having. However, there is an easy $40 dollar solution if you don't want to buy the extended warranty: www.ipodbattery.com They sell replacement batteries and teach you how to install them. Easy as pie.
I doubt you'll get as good performance or ease of repair with any of the other MP3 players out there. I've tried a friend's DellPod and it's clunky, and each song plays at a different frequency. Soundcheck cuts away that problem alltogether. YOu can access the entire thing single-handedly, and it takes seconds to update your collection. 3rd party software also lets you transfer songs from the iPod, keep a calendar with events and even add new games on! Check out www.macupdate.com for all of these programs and more. The world of iTunes and the iPod is pretty fantastic and makes music really fun. I have about 7 GB of movies and 18 GB of music on my iPod, not to mention that you can even read Word documents RIGHT ON THE iPOD ITSELF! Another program allows an unlimited word limit, so you could read a 180 pg. document right on your iPod. Insanely easy to read scripts or notes or go over a draft when you're not at your computer. There are so many features that a $300-$500 investment is well worth...especially considering I've had my Pod for almost 2 years now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best thing I ever bought
I Got an iPod last December and It's probably the best thing out there in size, music playing ability, style ext. It's just as good as a palm pilot. You can read, play games, anything. I love everything about it. Even if you hate music you can love iPod. It holds MONTHS of audio books. You can transfer files from one computer to another. It's the best thing I ever bought. If you try to find something better your wasting your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE gadget!!!!
The Ipod 40gb is just awesome. It took me a few weeks to download EVERY CD in my collection, but it was worth it! Great sound, nice styling, easy to navigate. It doesn't get any better than this!! One of the coolest things I've ever bought! (Which means that next year, there will be a smaller IPOD, that holds twice as much, at half the cost!!!! LOL) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tried 3 other; should have just bought this one!
After ruining my existing CRT monitor, I had to buy a replacement. Searched for low-cost, high-quality CRTs and found none (went to at least 6 stores). Brought home two CRTs and immediately took them back. Then decided to up the ante by looking at LCDs. Bought the Sony SDM-HS73 (based on reviews and store demo). Brought it home and immediately didn't like the text when plugged in my G4 -- very fuzzy and gave me a headache.

So I finally did what my wife and several friends suggested, spend the $700+ and buy the monitor I knew I really wanted/needed. Save yourself the search and buy the best to start.

Cons: price tag, only Mac compatible, must need ADC.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful for 1-2 years, then backlight fails.
I really wish that I could give this Apple product 5 stars, write some words of praise, and be on my way, but unfortunately I would feel uncomfortable recommending this monitor.

For two full years, this monitor was great. The resolution is generous, it is bright, and the fully digital ADC interface is perfect. Colors look good from a wide range of angles. The casing is smart and takes up little space, and it's easy to clean. The touch-sensitive power and brightness buttons are a nice touch that you expect from Apple.

Unfortunately, after two years, the top half of my display suddenly went dim, which is extremely annoying. I wouldn't post a negative review here just because I got unlucky. I am posting here because hundreds of customers have seen their displays fail within the first two years. Just look at Apple's discussion boards to see for yourself. (I can't post URLs in reviews.) Apple has not acknowledged that this is a widespread problem, and repair costs exceed that of a new display. It is also unclear as to whether or not this problem has been fixed in newer models. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best & most secure OS's
This is one of the best & most secure OS's one can buy. Works great! I don't think I can add anything else that the other reviewers have already said.

2-0 out of 5 stars 10.3 now top notch but lousy license
When 10.3 was initially released it had an unduly restrictive Family Pack license and did not handle multiple computers on the same internet connection properly.
The latest update 10.3.2 solves the software problems.
However, the the 10.3 Family Pack and the iLife Family Pack license have exactly the same language -

"as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household".

For those who respect intellectual property and read their licenses carefully, this means that the 10.3 Family Pack cannot be installed on a Powerbook which then is taken outside the same household nor on another Mac located at another of your personal residences. Apple has confirmed that this is the correct interpretation of their license language.

All Apple had to do with both Family Pack licenses is change
"located in the same household and used by" to
"located in the same household OR used by".

Unfortunately the lawyers cannot seem to agree with that simple change so don't waste your money on the Family Pack unless you can comply with the license or choose to ignore it.

5-0 out of 5 stars 10.3 now top notch
When 10.3 was initially released it had an unduly restrictive Family Pack license and did not handle multiple computers on the same internet connection properly.
The latest update 10.3.2 solves the software problems and Apple is rewriting the Family Pack license to allow installation on multiple computers including ones taken out of the primary residence.
With these fixes 10.3 and the Family Pack are a great deal - particularly for people who respect intellectual property rights.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Deal
For a single computer, 129 dollars is a completely reasonable price for Panther, but when you have multiple computers at home like I do, it adds up to a bit more than I care to spend.

However I am also 100% opposed to pirating software.

Thank goodness that Apple has provided this very affordable package licensing option. Now I can legally install Panther on all 4 of our Macs for less than what it would cost to buy the single user license for just 2 computers.

Why doesn't Microsoft offer something like this for Windows?

5-0 out of 5 stars License clarification
Peter F. Carpenter writes: "This means that I cannot install the Panther software on the Macs located in my other two personal residences nor can a take by Powerbook with the Panther software installed on it out of my house."

No, that's not what the license means. The license says "computers are located in the same household", and defines 'household' as " person or persons sharing the same housing unit such as a home".

Household does not mean "house". It refers to a group of cohabitating people, not the physical structure in which they live. I expect "household" would also apply to second homes owned by a family, but would not apply to homes owned by extended family. So your uncle Joe in the next state wouldn't be eligible to participate in the family pack, but your Mac in your vacation home in the next state would.

There is no problem removing a powerbook from your house, unless you are also removing yourself from the household (ie, the family unit). If your wife kicks you to the curb and asks for a divorce, you may need a new license. If you're just going down to Starbucks, or on a business trip, or to work, I expect you're okay. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars If you want protection, then don't buy this case
Quite simply the case is so hard, I noticed a small scratch on my ipod screen after it had been in this so called protective case. Do yourself a favour and buy an iskin exo. a cover made of silicone that fits like a skin to your ipod and allows you to access the buttons, hold switch and attach your firewire and headphones without haveing to remove the Ipod from it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste the money!
I've got the 20gb iPod and mine did come with this case. Like other reviewers said, it's a pain to pull the machine out when you want to change a setting. The clip is really poor quality as well - I only used it a few times and the thing just snapped off. Do yourself a favor and by a nice after-market case...you'll save yourself a lot of agravation and probably save some $$ too.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you want to USE the ipod, look elsewhere.
This case came with the ipod I purchased; in fact, it's one of the reasons I didn't purchase the 10G model. However, as a previous reviewer stated, you simply cannot use the ipod while it's in this case - it's only good for transporting it. There are other case options available that allow you to leave the ipod in the case and access its controls. I'm personally waiting for the Xtreme Mac case to become available. All controls can be accessed inside the case. You can charge the ipod while it is in the case (you can't with this case). It costs less and is made of leather, not nylon.

2-0 out of 5 stars The perfect case....if you want to lose or break your iPod
Ipod case...How do I hate thee, let me count the ways:

1- This case offers no access to the iPod screen or buttons so you have to pull the (slippery) iPod out any time you want to do anything. Considering it is likely attached to your belt while you're pulling it out and the iPod itself is practically frictionless it is only a matter of time before the iPod takes a four foot dive to the pavement.

2- The case itself is quite hard, offering very little shock protection if it were dropped.

3- The belt clip has a fairly week spring making it easy to pull off your belt without disengaging the clip...not very secure at all. My iPod came off my belt on it's own the first day I had it while I was in the car, simply because I was in a sitting position. That's all it took to push it off my belt. Luckily I was in the car so no damage was done.

4- The top is completely open which, on one hand, makes it easier to pull the iPod out of the case to access the buttons, which you have to do thanks to the poor design of this case, but it also gives the iPod an exit so it can escape on it's own, say, while you're at the gym doing squats.

5- Considering that this case is the most expensive one out there you'd think it could be made out of something other than industrial strength cardboard wrapped in nylon.

At the top of this case is a very tastefull little tag with the Apple logo embroidered into it. This is what you are paying for with this case. If that is enough to make you buy it, don't...it's not visible unless you take the iPod out and look inside the case, so people won't even know that you have a name-brand case. Look elsewhere; you will pay less for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent qualify
I was a bit teeded off when my ipod didn't come with the carrying case as the 15 and 30 gig does. But YOU do need a carrying case for the ipod and this one, from Apple, is simply the best. It is expensive for a small case but it is made very well and solid and should lasts for years. It looks as good as it feels. Except for the $$ price tag, this thing is perfect!! ... Read more
