5-0 out of 5 stars easy home security type camera
I wanted to get a camera for the house that I could check while on the road travelling for work. The Toshiba camera featured a low light level so I can type in my camera webpage address and see the front of the house at night in lower light levels. The camera works wirelessly from my linksys wireless B/G router. All I needed to do was plug the camera into power outlet which was in the garage. The power cord is 30+ feet. I found Toshiba updated the temperature specs so it can be used in -4 to 122F temperatures. It was easy to install and the picture quality is great at 1.45 megapixels. The camera also has a rugged housing unlike most cameras priced at the same level. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good set, might get better with HD components
I bought this TV about two months ago.I did a lot of research on Amazon and other websites like cnet.com to narrow down the best quality-to-cost-efficiency ratio. While at the time this set was still a couple hundred more than I wanted to spend, I notified Amazon of some lower prices I'd found around the Internet and within hours they had matched it (they match the total price because many other sites charged higher shipping and, of course, sales tax, which Amazon does not).I decided to take the plunge, having had three Toshiba TVs in the past and never being disappointed (one of them was a 40" CRT HD-Ready projection that was impressive at the time). The amount of features on this unit were staggering; the most enticing for me were the HDMI connections, the Cable Card slot, and the latest, more sophisticated DLP engine.I also ordered the stand from Amazon (through Crutchfield -- had problems with them shipping the stand expeditiously.I ordered the stand a day after I ordered the TV and the TV arrived over a week earlier and came from further away).

I had some problems with the shipping company. They delayed my shipment several days after the TV arrived in my area to wait for the TV stand I ordered (they were delivering both items). When it finally showed up at my house, there was a huge hole in the side of the box and only one small delivery driver. The driver hauled the TV inside my house, had me inspect that the hole hadn't done any damage, and had me sign some paperwork -- then he was off on his merry way. These televisions are so big that there's quite a lot of box and packaging, which became a nightmare when I had to break it down and send it out on several day's recycling pick-ups the next few days because there was so much (the delivery company, Eagle Global, was supposed to unbox my new TV and haul away the trash, which would have been much easier).I consider myself lucky, though, that the TV works fine because one drawback of ordering from Amazon is that once you sign the paperwork they wash their hands of your purchase unless you've bought into their very expensive warrantee.I dreaded having to schedule service through Toshiba if something had gone awry.

But the unit was easy to set up, easy to install on the stand (a somewhat cheap and flimsy but nice-looking stand).I had it up and running in no time and didn't have much trouble comprehending the manual.

Right now I have DirecTV (blame my girlfriend for that one), and it is a financial investment to get HD service through them (plus you can't use the Cable Card). The contract is almost up, so Adelphia seems like the best way to go there.I did go out and by a Terk HD antenna for my local stations and the picture is amazing (though the rabbit ears over my sleek TV are unseemly). The current DirecTV digital programming looks very poor on this TV.It seems to me that this TV is begging for an HD source. In fact, at first I was very disappointed in the picture even on DVDs played on my progressive scan Panasonic DVD-S47.I didn't see any of the rainbow effect that they warn about, but artifacts are all over the place - especially distracting in dark or busy action sequences. This problem accounts for my subtracting one star from the review -- but from what I have read and understand, a new DVD player with progressive scan upconversion should not only make the picture close to true HD-quality, but also should make those artifacts disappear. If that's the case, then I have nothing but praise for this TV.It's slim, it's light, it's got a beautiful screen, a ton of features (ready for the technology of the next few years at least), and Toshiba has once again proven to be the best bang for my buck.

The is the first review I've ever written about anything I've ever purchased.I thought maybe some people would like to know what to expect when they are ready to invest thousands into entertainment.I based my decision on many factors, and one important one was customer reviews. This set couldn't be much better for what I paid.I think now that it's a matter of setting up other components and inputs for this set to really shine. If the Toshiba SD-5970 DVD player I'm getting today clears up the little glitches in DVD play that I think it will, I wouldn't hesitate giving this television a well thought out 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chase Boston MA.
I waited a long time for Toshiba to produce this high quality TV,and they did not leave anything out in this product"Kudos to them".The picture and sound is stunning and I'am receiving it through a 38 year old antenna install in the attic.Intergrated HDTV is the amazement of the future.I held off the purchase from Amazon in fear of shipping a sensitive product without damage.Let me tell you Amazon has not only the best price but the most professonial movers I ever deal with "Kudos to them".So dont wait let Amazon perform for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV
I bought this through Amazon about a month ago. Shipping was very fast and as stated in another reveiw, the truckers brought the tv in, removed it from its packaging, and took the trash with them, it was great. Setup was easy. High definition is absolutely crystal clear, I've never seen a picture like this from a television before. Standard broadcast doesn't come close to the hi-def, but is above par with other tv's. I hooked this tv up with the toshiba sd-5970 dvd with HDMI and could not be more impressed with it. In closing, great tv, great price through amazon, and a great experience getting it.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a picture!!!
I waited for some time before purchasing this TV and my only regret is that I did not buy it sooner. For starters, I ordered it on a Thursday and recieved it the following Tuesday. A full week before I expected it. The delivery company was top notch and not only carried the TV in but removed the trash as well. However none of that compared to three hours later when I finally connected the last wire and turned it on. Picture clarity was as good as any plasma or LCD I have seen. When watching DVD's it's like your looking through a window outside. As for video games the TV even includes a special game mode that increases the framerate for games that have alot going on at once. Cool. The only bummer was the integrated HDTV card. I spent the extra cash for it only to find out that Direct TV dosen't support it. So you may want to check with you HDTV provider before spending the extra money. I would recommend this TV to everyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Toshiba's IK-WB01A is a disgrace!!
I am extremely disappointed with this camera. The manual is written in very poor English which I had a hard time deciphering and it doesn't explain some basic operations. I cannot imagine how Toshiba managed to get the best geeks in Japan to develop this camera but they couldn't get a professional translator to write up a manual in English. I know that most of their customer's speak English, so this doesn't make any sense.

In addition, their website has several non-functional links. The links to download manuals, documentation or obtain support are all dead. The main page is http://www.toshiba.com/taisisd/netcam/support/support_index.htm but try clicking on the "customer support" links and you go nowhere.

Last but not least, this camera doesn't seem to be able to record any video unless you purchase additional software fro about $40. This is absurd, especially for an expensive $200 camera like this. The video recording software is called NWREC01 and I had to do some research just to find out that I needed this software in order to record.

All this reflects very poorly on Toshiba and I will try to avoid all Toshiba products from now on.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera but somewhat misleading for motion detection
I was looking for a wireless pan/tilt security type camera that includes low light (for seeing outside at night or wherever there can be little light) and thought I had found the perfect one for the right price so I got this one.

However, I was sort of misled on the motion detection option (which I also wanted). You need to wire up an external trigger (like closing a switch) which then in turn will allow the camera to record images and email you, etc, that movement was sensed. They call this alarm notification or something. This camera does not have `built-in' motion detection (unlike the higher end Toshiba model WB11A which does) or some others that do.Since the manual for the WB01A and WB11A are combined it's easy to be misled (the WB11A has configurable built-in motion detection that the manual shows you how to configure).

Other than that, the camera is pretty easy to configure, pan/tilt/zoom works good, and the picture looks pretty decent. Not sure of the wireless range since I did not put that to the test but it was easy to configure and get on the network. The auto low light worked pretty well for seeing things in a darker setting.I haven't used other web cameras besides this one but did see a review that mentioned the Panasonic BL-C30A was better but it is also more expensive than this one.

So if you are looking for a wireless pan/tilt/zoom camera that also can see well in low light conditions but does not have built-in motion detection, this camera is well worth a look for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outdoor camera
Great camera for price. I bought the optional accessory kit model IK-WBACC1 so I could install the camera outdoors. I have the camera running on the 802.11b wireless network and was amazed at how easy it is to install. This is a great camera for home or business. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba's SD-4960 single-disc DVD player offers near-universal optical-disc compatibility, a huge boon for budget-conscious audio- and videophiles. The player spins DVD-Video movies, of course, but also handles recordable CDs loaded with MP3 or WMA music files and discs filled with JPEG digital photos. But it also plays stereo and multichannel music-based DVD-Audio and SACD (Super Audio CD) media, letting you enjoy high-resolution music in stereo or, depending on the disc, albums specially mixed for surround-sound listening.

The SD-4960 excels in video performance, too. It's outfitted with 10-bit/54 MHz video DACs (digital-to-analog converters) and ultimate-quality Super ColorStream Pro progressive-scan component-video outputs for seamless, flicker-free images when viewed through high-definition and HD-ready TVs. Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the SD-4960 will deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The SD-4960 also performs 3:2 pulldown reversal. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion. Conventional composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

Digital picture zoom is an interactive DVD feature that lets you select and magnify an area of a picture you want to zoom in on. Enhanced digital processing during moving video or freeze-frame playback produces high color fidelity and resolution, even when you're zoomed in. You can also use this feature to expand letterbox-only films to full-screen (4:3 aspect ratio) dimension.

DVD-Audio and SACD media both offer super-high-fidelity sound. DVD-Audio discs provide 192 kHz/24-bit multichannel and stereo sound, high storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. DVD-A discs often have compressed Dolby Digital soundtracks for listening on standard DVD players, but true DVD-A decoding is required for full sonic appreciation. Depending on the disc, Sony's proprietary SACD format provides extended-bandwidth multichannel and/or stereo sound, often presented in a dual-layer format compatible with both standard CD players (at standard resolution) and SACD-equipped players like the SD-4960 (for full-resolution playback).

The player performs bass management, giving you control of independent channel parameters (speaker size, delay time, etc.), including control for bass reproduction. Use this feature to customize the player's multi-channel audio output to your particular home theater.

As an anti-piracy measure, the player performs its own decoding of both DVD-Audio and SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to fully appreciate multichannel DVD-A and SACD releases.

A set of stereo and a set of multichannel analog-audio outs route audio from DVD-A/SACD media as well as from Dolby Digital- and DTS-encoded DVDs to your AV receiver. If you're not planning to use the DVD-A/SACD capability for multichannel programming, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for a simpler connection with your receiver.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great starter HDTV or bedroom set
The Toshiba 26HF85 is my first HDTV set. My criteria were 1080i support, HDMI and dual HD component inputs, in a small cabinet. With its speakers on the bottom, this set is very compact. At only 27.5" wide, it is small enough to fit on an extra nightstand in my bedroom. I have a DirecTV H10 Hi-Def receiver hooked to it via HDMI, along with a PlayStation 2 via component. The picture quality is superb, although I am certainly no expert in that area.
This set has a well-designed and attractive remote control with buttons that glow in the dark. The cabinet has nice styling as well, and even has built-in handles like the smaller Toshibas. The menu system is fairly easy to use and offers plenty of options, but the on-screen graphics are low-quality and are hideous compared to the gorgeous menus in the newer Samsungs. This set does have auto aspect ratio sensing, but I don't feel that it works as well as it could.
The 26HF85 is an attractively-priced HDTV if you don't require an on-board ATSC tuner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Travelling with child for 8 days
Personally I think this unit is great. Some features were very important as I have a very precocious 2 1/2 year old. The sound quality and picture were great. Yes, if look at it from the side the image is dark. This is pretty standard with LCD displays. Importantly, the buttons on the unit are integrated into the top cover. This is also the same with the remote. Sticky fingers, food and minor splashes can be cleaned up very easily. The picture is very crisp. The bottom has very sticky rubber dots which kept the unit in place while my son was moving his tray on the plane up and down. We very easily plugged the unit in the audio/video RCA connections on the TV at the hotel. It worked flawlessly. The remote is as thin as two credit cards, very easily stowed. I used the unit to watch my own movies with headphones and found the experience enjoyable. All in all I would highly recommend this to any parent who wants a great unit for the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars World Traveler
I bought the unit a few days ago
it has all the features i wanted as a traveler (voltage/connection options)
and i looked at every damn model made
car adapter a plus (bought seperately this is expensive)
Image is pretty good for a few people to watch even at an angle
sound quality is really good (has several preset environments)
and player noise is only an issue during disk load
it DOES FF and RW (not just change chapters)by holding the button on the player OR on the remote which is not commom on other units, plus an A/B button on the remote to create a customized repeat area anywhere during the movie (to replay those cool scenes of youre choice over and over)
ONLY BAD PART IS:
i am experiencing problems with the disk starting over if the cord is bumped or unit is picked up during play
i will swap it in (for the same) and post if the replacement does the same
this is the only reason i did not go with 5 stars

3-0 out of 5 stars Small Flaws Limit Stars
We bought this for a long driving trip, and found that the car charger was not really long enough to power the unit while it is attached to the back of the front seat. We drive a Subaru Outback, so minivans and larger SUV's seem likely to have such problems. In addition, the plug often came out of the cigarette lighter.
We have also found the unit tempermental in which discs it plays - it doesn't want to play the Lion King, for example, only the previews!

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality Brand-Good for money
I picked this dvd player up at a best buy about a week ago, and I have to say i was somewhat impressed with it.
First lets discuss the screen. This screen is very high quality for the money you pay because Toshiba has made laptops for many years and has experience im making lcd screens like this one. The picture quality is very sharp and can be fine tuned to your taste.
Next are the speakers. Many people conclude that these speakers are very low quality and too quite to use. While i would not deem them worthless, i would agree that they are very quiet and have no bass. But again there is a reason for this. Portable dvd players are made to be just that-portable. For something to be portable, it has to be small and for something to be small, it has to have small components. The reason for lack of sound quality and volume is that these speakers are small to make the dvd player small nand portable. As for me, this is not a problem as my family in the car would not appreciate hearing my movies and i would be using headphones anyway.
The dvd player itself seems to be very dependable, although it is somewhat noisy (again, headphones would keep this from being a problem too you as they would cover up the noise). Also, you have to make sure the disc as all the way on the spindle, as sometimes only two of the three push-pin thingys are holding the disc in place and it pops out when you start up the dvd player.
From what i've seen, the battery is compitant, although it is hard to review that because i have not actually used it for all three hours and timed it and i have only charged it once. Also, this player comes with all the cables you would need to hook it up to a tv/vcr or to get power too it. The remote is comveniantly small and has all the controls you would need, save the volume control because that is a little wheel thingy that you turn to adjust the volume.
Really the only complaints i have with this dvd player are minor-low sound quality, somewhat noisy spindle, and a few other things. At first i was planning on getting the polaroid but decided this one was worth the extra 50$ or so, and i am glad i made that decision after reading some of the reviews on the polaroid. Toshiba is a much more reliable brand with lots of experience in this type of electronic device.I would definately recoment this dvd player over any of the other ones in its class.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good value for a name brand player
If you're looking for a good 7" portable player for a good price, this is probably the best way to go. The picture quality is nice and the extras (i.e. cables, car adapter) make it a great value. Unfortunately, like other reviewers, I also found the drive to be a little noisy and the speakers are fairly poor (Hint: consider picking up an audio cassette adapter for car-trips).

For travelers, combine with a nice set of noise-canceling headphones and you have a decent little theater for those long flights. I also do recommend the CyberHome CH-ACB 02 case for this model. It's big enough to carry the player, remote, and charger, but small enough to only take up a little room in your carry-on. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Velocity Scan Modulation ruins this TV
I reviewed the Toshiba 24AF44 with the same problem, however the 20AF44 was so bad it was impossible to watch. It is even worse playing back DVDs.
Velocity Modulation (VM), sometimes called VCM, makes the picture sharper but also causes some distortion on vertical lines, especially with a white background. Most brands offer a way to reduce the VM or turn it off completely (Panasonic and SONY for instance) but for some odd reason Toshiba does not offer the choice.
I found the colors to be very vivid and the sound quality to be quite good. The set is also good looking except for the exposed front inputs which mar the look of the front end of the TV.
However, the VM ruins the TV. I am returning it for a Panasonic CT-20SL14, which does not have VM. I personally think VM is a bad addition to any TV and unnecessary. If you are interested in a SONY, their 20 inch Wega offers a way to reduce VM or turn it off completely.
If Toshiba offered this in their TVs I think they would rate the highest because of the good color saturation, fine audio quality, and attractive case.
Unfortunately for now I would recommend avoiding all Toshiba TVs until the VM can be adjusted or turned off.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrendous Picture
I bought this television and noticed from the first day that the colors tended to bleed into one another to the extent that it was a constant distraction. It also did a bad job with tiny details such as the weaves on a coat or any striped pattern, which always appeared blurry. Anyway I sold it and got a 20 inch Sony which I'm quite happy with.Avoid this one at all costs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Annoying color flicker when watching DVDs
I did a lot of research for the new TV I was getting ready to buy. I read the issues of Consumer Reports magazine where they reviewed televisions. I also read a lot of reviews and articles on the internet. I then went to stores to view the picture quality of the TVs I was thinking about buying. It came down between this Toshiba 20" TV and the Sony 20" TV (KV-20FS120). The Sony was about $50-$70 more expensive, so I went with the Toshiba.

The TV picture quality was okay, but when I started watching DVDs I kept noticing this color flicker on vertical lines. Many thin, vertical lines (like on the edges of doors or windows, thin trees, etc.) had this green and pink color flicker. I played the DVDs to others and they saw these color flickers right away without me having to point out where it was to them. I wasn't sure if it was my DVD player, so I played the DVDs in other places and didn't get this problem.

So I returned the Toshiba TV and bought the Sony. Not only does the Sony not have these color flickers when watching DVDs, but I feel the Sony has an overall better picture quality and I am totally happy with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Toshiba Delivers !!
I bought this over buying a Sylvania which was awful, as soonas I turned it on the picture was sharp and clear colors sharp, and clean. the sound is perfect, in fact I leave this TV on everynight and so far (since Xmas 2004) it has no buzzing or problems. The upper Digital channels from my IO Digital cable provider are sharper than ever!! I was going to buy a Sony, but Toshiba has always been a good product, and reliable
Here is a little trick i learned selling TV's when you purchae a new set leave it on a few days non-stop ( yes I said non-stop! )
this will surely test the set, if there are any flaws they will happen right away, then you can bring it back within your warranty with the store. They will never tell you this at a retail chain!
Anyway I highly recommend the 20AF44 Toshiba, make sure you use Monster S-Video or Componet Video Cables when hooking up DVD and Cable Box for best picture qulaity!

4-0 out of 5 stars Met my expectations....
After looking through several choices for a tv that would work in a smaller room or bedroom I chose this one. Compared to the other tv's at this size (20") it has features that few others do. I noticed a lot of complaints about text being fuzzy or "off" and the tv having "warm" red colors. I've had the tv for several months now and i never noticed these complaints. Maybe i'am not as critical as others are, but for $160 I feel like I got a deal.

One other note I would like to mention:
I believe I ordered from a site that went through amazon.com (used and new section), I did not bother them about it but when i recieved the tv I noticed a small, almost unnoticeable dent in the top middle. I believe it was made by the shipping company but it looks like a lot of weight went into making it because the plastic is hard. Not enough for me to send it back although I wondered how i got it so cheap... ... Read more

Amazon Product Description

The Basics:
When is a notebook not just a notebook? When it's one of Toshiba's new Qosimo notebooks. Distinctive from other mobile computers by virtue of its strong multimedia and 3D graphics attributes and easy adaptability to home entertainment setups, the Qosimo F15-AV201 is a top of the line portable package that's impressive in virtually any environment. Powerful, exceedingly versatile and packed with cutting edge amenities, the Qosimo F15-AV201 is well suited to discriminating individuals with a passion for multimedia.

Processor:
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today’s notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU’s on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, while others are quick enough only for basic duties such as word processing, email and the like. The Qosimo F15-AV201 is equipped with an Intel Pentium M processor 745 running at 1.8 GHz. This is one of three components that comprise Intel’s efficient Centrino system (the others being a specialized Intel chipset and integrated wireless support). Centrino-equipped notebooks are generally smaller, easier on the batteries, and more versatile than their non-Centrino counterparts. This particular CPU is part of Intel’s new, upgraded Pentium M lineup, featuring an amazing 2 MB of Level 2 cache for extremely fast access to recently opened files and applications. Though its overall speed is not on par with that of a high-end Intel Pentium 4 processor, the Pentium M 745 will easily handle typical tasks.

Memory:
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM) for faster retrieval. More RAM means more efficient computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The Qosimo F15-AV201 incorporates 512 MB of fast PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM memory. Though ultra-demanding users may want to expand this total to the unit's boggling maximum of 2048 MB, the stock allotment of RAM is more than enough for the vast majority of situations.

Video:
CPU’s are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). A graphics controller with "dedicated" video memory is preferable to a controller that "shares" the system’s main memory, as it will better handle complex procedures. This system’s graphics controller is an nVidia GeForce FX Go5700 with an impressive 128 MB of dedicated DDR video memory. This is a very strong notebook graphics chipset - on par or superior to the graphics capabilities of many desktop PCs - that delivers top-notch images and smooth frame rates to virtually any 2D and most 3D applications, including many of today's most popular 3D games.

Display:
You’ll love the way your images look on the 15.4-inch WXGA display. Featuring Toshiba's TruBrite Technology for a better, brighter picture than typical notebooks, a maximum resolution of 1024 by 768 and a panoramic, movie-friendly widescreen format, this display is ready for any environment and source.

Hard Disk:
The Qosimo F15-AV201 features a massive 80 GB of hard disk space. This level of data storage is a welcome perk indeed for those who want to operate a broad range of applications and also keep a large library of space-gobbling music and/or multimedia files.

Optical Drive:
An optical drive is essential in today’s computing environment. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs. With a DVD-ROM drive you can watch DVD movies. And with a DVD-RW drive, you can "write" home movies to durable discs and archive files to DVD (DVDs boast more than seven times the storage capacity of a CD). Some drives allow you to do a combination of all of these tasks. This system features a DVD-Super-Multi drive that supports all of the above in each of today’s most common CD and DVD formats.

Audio:
Toshiba has equipped the unit with an integrated audio processor that mimics the spatial awareness of surround sound and two comparatively beefy harman-kardon speakers for powerful mobile stereo output.

Keyboard and Controls:
You’ll control your notebook via an 85-key keyboard, several one-touch multimedia and general function keys, and a TouchPad pointing device with scroll.

Connectivity and Expansion:
Whether you prefer wireless or corded connections, the Qosimo F15-AV201 is ready for anything the present or future may bring. The unit offers a wide variety of ways to keep in touch, including a standard dial-up 56K data/fax modem for low-speed communication, an IntelPRO/100 VE Network Connection for high-speed wired network and Internet, and integrated Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG (802.11b/g) for cordless e-communication at home, at the office or on the road via local public hotspots. Other key amenities include four high-speed USB 2.0 ports for plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, Bluetooth 1.1 technology for interaction with wireless peripherals, an i.LINK 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders), futuristic S-Video and Component TV-out ports, and a digital audio out (SPDIF) connection. Furthermore, all critical connections are positioned at the rear of the unit for clean lines and easy home entertainment setups.

Operating System and Software:
The bundled software package begins with Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004. Similar to the standard Windows XP but with several enhancements geared to the multimedia fan, this is one of today's most advanced operating systems. Other applications include Intuit's Quicken New User Edition 2004 financial center, Microsoft's Office OneNote 2003 note-taking and management program, and several operational, multimedia and online utilities.

Dimensions and Weight:
Notebook computers are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes and weights. Many of today’s most powerful notebooks are also the largest, weighing ten or twelve lbs or more and therefore too big and cumbersome for extensive, continuous traveling. These are often referred to as "desktop replacements". On the other extreme are "thin and lights" or "ultra-portables", super-miniaturized units that typically aren’t as powerful as their larger brethren but weigh as little as two lbs and will often fit comfortably inside a large purse. At 14.7 by 11.22 by 1.70 inches and 8.6 lbs (without feet), the Qosimo F15-AV201 is slightly larger than today's norm.

Power:
The unit is equipped with a 6-cell Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Big Boy works good
I picked it up when my last TV started aging a bit. I didn't wish to spend the extra $$ for a flat panal screen and went with the older technology of this beast. Let me tell you it works plenty good. Sharp picture, saturated color, and plenty loud enough for any room . The drawback is its size. extremely big and heavy. My entertainment center shelves hold 250 lbs. so it wasn't a big concern as for weight and depth. My wife and I barely got it into position, but it's there and there to stay hopefully for the next 10 years. I use it with my Sony driven 700-watt 5.1 system and it really delivers fine. I actually purchased the 36 in. version for a few dollars more so it was even heavier than this behemouth. Toshiba quality makes this a good purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding value, outstanding TV
I bought this TV to replace an 8-year old Sony XBR (orig price of $1500).This is the first non-Sony, larger than 20", TV that I have owned.I've never been a big fan of Sony audio components, but I have always liked their video products very much (thus my past brand-loyalty).

When my XBR started going out, I faced either taking it in for an estimate, or purchasing a new TV.Given the typical more and better toys logic, I immediately thought "ah, here's my excuse for HDTV".However, I just could not justify the price of a flat screen given the still-outrageous prices. Not wanting to lock myself into a non-flat panel HDTV, I decided to shop for an economical TV to "bridge" to an HDTV flat panel in 2-3 years when prices will most likely be more reasonable.

I surveyed the available 32" CRT's (my current entertainment system won't hold a larger TV :( ) and did the cursory review of Consumer Reports latest ratings.Initially, I was still a Sony shopper. However, given the reviews here, the Consumer Reports data, and the fact that I found this TV on sale for $340, I decided to give it a try.

My impressions? This is an outstanding TV at and outstanding price. It outperforms any of my prior TV's, even the $1500 XBR.In some ways this is not surprising since technology has advanced in the 8 years since I purchased my prior TV.But the improvement is two-fold, greater performance and much lower price.

Out-of-the-box, the TV looked good but still suffered from typical manufacturer's "cranked up" settings.I pulled out Video Essentials and started to work. There are really very few problems with this set other than, as one other reviewer mentioned, the TV doesn't have great ability to hold the black level constant. However, this is a minor concern.Once all adjustments were completed, the picture is steallar.Far better than any other TV I've ever owned.I have no idea how it compares to other manufacturers' TV, but I really don't see how any TV could be significantly better than this one.

As an aside note, my final settings via Video Essentials differ significantly from another posters here - showing not all TV's are identical.Mine were : Contrast 43, Brightness 34, Sharpness 28, Color 45, Tint 18, and Color Temp Medium.

I'm sure even the most demanding purchaser will be happy with this TV's performance. However, to get the most out of it, you really should put it through Video Essentials. If you don't have a copy, get one. You'll be able to use it on all future TV purchases, along with using it to fine tune and verify your audio system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Picture and Value....
I also can't say enough about this tv..I was in the market
for a flat screen HD TV ready 32" or higher and looked and
did the research and waited and didn't rush.I had gone to
the stores and compared pictures and I always went back to this
Toshiba, its even got a screen that is pretty close to flat and bought it and I love this set and I saved hundreds
of dollars if I went to HD TV ready.Great Picture and value
for those looking for a reasonably priced TV with great credentials. It also ConsumerReports #1 rated 32" Conventional tv for the money
even listed slightly better than the more than twice as expensive Sony FD trinitron Wega V310 at over $900.00.

5-0 out of 5 stars great picture tv for a reasonable price
This 32" is a great tv for the price. Since we don't have digital cable we don't need a digital tv and the plasmas tvs are too expensive for us. So after comparing the reviews on amazon and at the store, we decided to get this tv. So far so good though it is on the heavy side so hopefully it will stay in one spot. The colors and sharpness are great! We are happy with it so hope it lasts!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome 32" for the price.
Since the other reviews here already mention this TV's features etc. Ill just get right to it,I saw this TV in Consmuer reports as the highest rated 32" model among the many models tested, also Toshiba has one of the best repair history records according to Consumer reports , afer looking around I found it at Bestbuy.com on sale for $407 (as of 02/3/04), I'm really picky with picture quality (maybe a bit to much? =) but this TV has a really nice picture ,in fact it comes very close in picture quality to our $700 Flatscreen 27" Wega ,Also the sound quality is much better on the Toshiba, my only (minor) complaint would be the 'Black Retention' is a slightly weak (a tv's ability to maintain black in dark scenes without it looking 'grey') turning down the brightness helped this a lot but still not quite on par with the Wega,The factory picture presets on the Toshiba are badly set in my opinion ,After running the Video Essentials DVD I noticed this TV has very good Convergence and only a slight Geometry issue in the bottom left corner(picture "sags" down a bit) ,After running through the video test patterns on the dvd I ended up with the following settings: Contrast 53,Brightness 43,Sharpness 58, Color 48, Tint 0 ,Color Temperature: Medium, This may not be the 'perfect' settings for you but im 99% sure it'l look a lot better than any of the factory preset settings (Movie/Standard/Sports). With these settings watching Cable, playing Xbox or watching DVD's all look great.

The remote control is nice ,very similar to a Sony's remote layout,I was able to easily program it to operate my DVD player, VCR and Cable box.

For the money you really cant go wrong,Excellent TV overall,Also worth noting is even tho its not a Flatscreen it still looks flatter than most conventional 32" TV's I've seen. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The RD-XS32 DVD player/recorder from Toshiba combines a versatile video recorder and a high-end DVD player with a clear, realistic picture and warm, natural sound. The RD-XS32 is the perfect next-generation upgrade from your old VCR and a powerful addition to your home theater.

The multidrive recorders on the RD-XS32 allow you to record onto an internal 80 GB hard disk drive (HDD), a DVD-R disc, or rerecordable DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs. The HDD holds up to 103 hours of programs, and you can rapidly dub shows from the HDD onto a DVD. A high-speed dub of a recording from the HDD onto a DVD-R disc can be completed 24 times faster than the length of the program. In other words, two hours of recording can move onto a disc in a matter of minutes. DVD-R copies of recordings made by the RD-XS32 will play on almost all DVD players and DVD-compatible computers.

Toshiba's time-slip playback feature allows you to watch a program that is being recorded from the beginning while the rest of the show records. You can also use the time-slip feature to pause a live broadcast that you are recording, and then resume watching it from where you left it, whenever you want.

Setting up a recording is simple. The RD-XS32 uses Gemstar's VCR Plus technology, which lets you select the programs you want to record by name, without worrying about setting the right time and channel. You can schedule up to 32 different shows with this timer recording feature.

The programs that you have recorded are logged into an adjustable menu that displays the date, time, and channel that you recorded. You will also see a still-video image of the show you recorded in the menu. You can rename the listings and create chapters within the recordings that allow you to easily skip to your favorite scenes or to dub a cleaned-up copy of the show you've recorded onto DVD. The easy-to-use menu also features a live action window that lets you monitor the program you are currently recording or playing.

In addition to high-quality recordings, you'll get the most out of your DVD library as well. The RD-XS32 utilizes Toshiba's ColorStream Pro progressive-scan video technology to yield vivid colors, clean resolution, and reduced onscreen distortion. The RD-XS32 uses digital cinema progressive scanning to reproduce your DVDs in theaterlike clarity. While the RD-XS32 is compatible with both analog and digital televisions, you will get the optimum effect by using the player with a high-definition-compatible television.

In addition to playing a full range of DVDs, the RD-XS32 plays CDs and MP3 audio files, so you can enjoy your favorite music. You can also view digital JPEG photos from CDs created in your computer with the RD-XS32.

The RD-XS32 features rear-panel composite audio and video inputs, and RCA inputs on the front panel to connect your camcorder for dubbing onto DVD. An additional digital IEEE1394 Firewire jack is included on the front panel for an instant connection with digital camcorders. The Firewire connection automatically synchs up with your camcorder and creates a customized onscreen menu for dubbing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Machine, Even Better Than Its Predecessor (RD-X2)
I loved the RD-X2 enough that I would only have considered another Toshiba. (Much as I love this machine, it *does not* do 90% of what a Tivo will do. Tivo has season passes, suggestions, wish lists, search functions, and other features that make it absolutely fantastic. Buy both -- they really compliment each other.)

This is an absolutely great DVD Recorder. Picture quality is very good. You can record programs onto the hard drive, edit out the commercials, create custom thumbnails and titles, even customize your menu screen, and with a 4x DVD-R burn a DVD in 15 minutes. Its definitely more difficult to use than a VCR, and the manual isn't particularly well written or organized (it lacks an index), but its not that hard to get the hang of it. It works like a computer, not a VCR.

Features I Really Love (in no particular order):
1. Burning a DVD-R in 15 minutes. If you want to control the burn speed, use a 1x or 2x disc instead of a 4x.
2. Editting functions. I can set the timer to record programs on the hard drive while I'm away, then come back and edit them with ease and speed. I mark the chapters, can batch delete (its quick) and then recombine the chapters to make a single title. Or I can manually set the chapters, almost down to the frame.
3. Recording quality settings. You can select the video and audio recording settings, from 1.4 (EP equilvalent) to 4.6 (SP)on up to 9.2. Adjust your settings to get the best possible PQ and still fit your movie on the disc. At 1.4, I can get about 6.5 hrs on a DVD-R, at 2.2, 4.25 hrs, at 4.6, 2 hrs 6 mins.
4. You can watch another program you've already recorded while you record "live" programming. Or you can use the "timeslip" feature to watch a program from the beginning while its still being recorded.
5. You can give titles to "timer recordings" so everything has a title in advance.
6. For DVDs you've created yourself (*not* prerecorded DVDs) you can recopy programming back onto the hard drive and burn additional DVDs.
7. To copy to VHS, you can create a "playlist" and have your VCR copy all six hours worth of programming at once.
8. Out of town for a 48 hour Star Trek marathon? No tapes or discs needed, you can record all 48 hours on your hard drive as long as you have enough free space (135 hours at lowest setting).

About the black level bug issue, I've seen it reported, but I've played DVDs I've created on a variety of different DVD players (Toshiba, Sony, Hitachi, a PC and a Mac) and never experienced what some of the reviewers have complained about.

2-0 out of 5 stars Serious black level bug, plus 2 minor bugs
This DVD recorder can be perfect if Toshiba fixes the following 3 items, especially the black level bug, which is very serious.

1. Black level bug:
Due to NTSC America's +7.5IRE issue, Toshiba should consider that almost all DVD players in the US add +7.5 IRE to output already. Currently, RD-XS32 does not consider this fact, so the recorded DVD looks "washed out" (too bright) in other DVD player.

The best way to solve this problem is to have an option of recording level to adjust the input signal boost. For details, go to avsforum or ask Pioneer enginners about how they fix the black level bug from old DVD recorder to E50.

2. There should be an option of "forcing to output 3 digits" to IR blaster.
A lot of digital cable box needs the input to be 3 digits to correctly change channel. For example, to switch to channel 9, IR blaster should output 009 instead of just "9". Toshiba should add an option of forcing the output to 3 digits to work with most cable box or STB.

3. Record speed selection:
There should be an option of selecting speed of recording instead of just looking at the maximun speed that the media can handle. This could solve a lot of problem when the media is not "that good as it claims".

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of both worlds at the best price
This machine is awesome! Previously I bought a cheep Cyberhome recorder that was disappointing. The Toshiba has many more features. It is a bit complicated at first but after studying the manual you can easly record high quality tv shows and edit out all of the commercials. The hard drive feature is the only way to go if you are going to record TV. The Toshiba is better than the Panasonic because it will record from the DVD drive back onto the hard drive to make copies and it will record to DVD-RW that the Panasonic will not. I highly recommend this machine.

3-0 out of 5 stars um.. 80 MEGABYTES??
i think the webmaster or whoever wrote the description of this dvd recorder need to know a little about the difference between MB and GB... there is no way in world that you can record 109 hours on 80MB.. this site needs to go on the back page of pcmagazine bluffs =) well. anyways, considering this DVD recorder has 80.. GB! it's not a bad recorder and although it's a little pricey, i'm still gonna go ahead and give it a 3 stars. Hopefully, soon, they are gonna change that 80MB to 80GB.. Goodluck!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing OSM and operation
This unit is so easy to set up right out of the box. As complicated and chock full of abilities its still a snap to set up a record time and walk away. For the more techo types out there.. there are tons of options to fool with.

Good Job Toshiba! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars End of a happy dream
I really beleived in Toshiba. We had 1 TV that lasted 15 years without a single problem. This model was exactly what I wanted,
for about 3 months. The DVD player quit. Into the authorized repair shop, 6 weeks and the parts were still not available. I suggested it should be replaced. I shipped mine back, $120.00, and they shipped a new set. Great service I thought. The DVD has quit again 6 months later. I quit! I can't face another fight or expensive return. Skip this model!

4-0 out of 5 stars a complete entertainment center
I purchased this tv combo, last October, 2003, when it was first available. I shopped around, extensibly, for a complete unit, in the under $500.00, price category. My real problem was how large the units were, other brands, that I checked out were LARGER, than the Toshiba. I was using the TV in a space that couldn't be adjusted for size. This is why, I rate it 4stars, and not 5, because even though it was a bit smaller than the others, IT IS STILL TOOOO LARGE.
Everything else is really good about it. I'd call it a QUALITY PRODUCT, and the AMAZON price is great, plus free shipping; hard to beat. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The D-R2 DVD player/recorder from Toshiba combines a versatile digital video recorder with a high-end DVD player. You'll enjoy a stunningly realistic picture and warm, natural sound from your DVD library as well as programs you record. The D-R2 is a powerful addition to your home theater.

The multidrive recorders on the D-R2 allow you to record onto DVD-R discs or rerecordable DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs. DVD-R copies of recordings made by the D-R2 will play on almost all DVD players and DVD-compatible computers.

Toshiba's time slip playback feature allows you to watch a program that is being recorded from the beginning while the rest of the show records. You can also use the time slip feature to pause a live broadcast that you are recording, and then resume watching it from where you left it, whenever you want.

Setting up a recording is simple, and will seem comfortably familiar to VCR users. The D-R2 uses Gemstar's VCR Plus technology, which lets you select the programs you want to record by name, without having to worry about setting the right time and channel. You can schedule up to 32 different shows with this timer recording feature.

The programs that you have recorded are logged in to an adjustable menu that displays the date, time, and channel that you recorded. You will also see a still-video image of the show you recorded in the menu. You can rename the listings and create chapters within the recordings that allow you to easily skip to your favorite scenes or to dub a cleaned-up copy of the show you've recorded onto DVD. In addition to high-quality recordings, you'll get the most out of your DVD library. The D-R2 utilizes Toshiba's ColorStream Pro progressive-scan video technology to yield vivid colors, clean resolution, and reduced onscreen distortion. Digital cinema progressive scanning, or 3:2 pulldown, reproduces your DVDs in theaterlike clarity. While the D-R2 is compatible with both analog and digital televisions, you will get the optimum effect by linking the player with a high-definition-compatible television.

In addition to playing a full range of DVDs, the D-R2 plays CDs and MP3 audio files, so you can enjoy your favorite music. You can also view digital JPEG photos from CDs created in your computer with the D-R2.

The D-R2 features rear-panel composite audio and video inputs, and RCA inputs on the front panel to connect your camcorder for dubbing onto DVD. 5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable!
I have to admit the first couple of days were frustrating because this DVR is capable of so many things-more than I need! After reading the manual thoroughly, the dots did connect. I have owned it for over a month now and really have been enjoying it. This is my second DVR, first being a Magnavox which was a fair unit at best.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Disc Error Machine
The Toshiba D-R2 would have been more appropriately named the Toshiba R2-D2 because it's just as quirky as the robot of Star Wars fame. While the interface isn't the most user-friendly, it shouldn't take very long for the average user to become familiar with it, though it did take a while to learn how to edit a title. While recorded picture quality is adequate, the main problem with this machine is its uncanny ability to record entirely through a disc without detecting "disc errors" and then during the finalizing process (DVD-R) discs, you commonly get the message "DISC MAY NEED CLEANING OR IS DAMAGED PHYSICALLY".
As I've been using DVD recorders for almost two years, I didn't think that brand new DVD-R discs required cleaning, but I cleaned a couple anyway. No cigar. After trying to record approximately 40 DVD-R discs FOR VIDEO on this machine, from both Fuji and Ri-Data, I've had to throw away almost 45% of the discs. If you like to spend much money on discs, this is the machine for you. It's highly doubtful that I was unfortunate enough to purchase two bad batches of discs, from two different companies no less. Rather than contacting Toshiba, I threw the D-R2 into the trash with the latest disc it couldn't finalize successfully. To provide company for the Toshiba D-R2, I also tossed the Philips DVDR-75 recorder, another nearly worthless machine that has caused many people much grief. Does anyone know of any DVD recorders manufactured to be relatively grief-free?

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Recorder - Not For Dummies !
The Toshiba DVD recorder has too many great features to list in small review. If you are new to DVD Recorders or not willing to learn. Then get one desgined for dummies. But once you learn all its features, you will be rewarded with the finest quality recordings. Yes this unit has a 150 page manual, as well as two smaller ones. That alone should give you a clue as to how many features this has. The remote, does not have the strongest signal. However, you could always replace it with a universal remote. It does have some oddly labeled buttons. But once you learn them , all is fine.

The virtual keyboard that is used to name your DVDs. Is your standard "QWERTY" keyboard. Should you make a mistake there are a delete, backspace, and clear keys on the Keyboard. One odd feature is that you must press the PAUSE button for CAPS LOCK. But once you know that,it's simple to use. Just be sure to press the * key after you named your DVD disk. You are NOT able to edit chapter information on a DVD-R with ANY DVD RECORDER using DVD-R Disks. That's why this unit uses DVD-RW and DVD-RAM disks. Those disks are used for editing. The picture quality is excellent. There are three noise reduction units to prevent blocking and mosquito noise. Unless you record in the six hour speed you will not have to use them. In reply to the person who thinks this unit is difficult to use. He obviously needs a simple plug 'n' play tinker-toy unit like the $200 Gateway.

2-0 out of 5 stars Incomprehensible user interface
The Toshiba DVD recorder seems like it was created as a textbook example of how not to engineer a user interface. The underpowered remote, which will not work unless pointed directly at the recorder's sweet spot, is covered in a bewildering array of incomprehensively-labeled buttons. I'm a smart guy, but seeing buttons labeled "*" and "O" really puts me off. The virtual keyboard was evidently designed by a sadist; combinations of moving the cursor around the screen merge with strange elections like "pause" to toggle caps lock. Should you make a mistake (easy with the box's slow response times to its weak remote), you'll need to flip a little door open on the remo
