Purhcased this 29-Nov-2004. Retruned it 30-Nov-2004. Text was fuzzy , Pixelation issues. Bought it as an open item got a great deal. Even the DVD's did not seem that clear. Might have been a defective unit - but completley unacceptable for my set up (Satellite receiver with Monster S-Video high end cable).

Purhcased a SHARP LC-20B6U-S instead. While the SHARP was twice the price it is 100 times better. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Volume went after warranty
Labor warranty is only 90 days. Volume went after 120days. Not worth fixing. Now must buy a new tv

1-0 out of 5 stars TV goes out after 90 days
We spent $90 on this tv.It worked fine for 95 days or so.Then the tv goes out.You push the power button and nothing happens. We have tried different outlets and everything. And guess what, it only has a 90 day warranty on labor. And the labor is $60!!! Don't buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV
This is an excellent television if you want a tv for your dorm room, kitchen, or if you just want a secondary tv for a room in your house.

It works great with accessories like a dvd player, video game, vcr, etc.. and is very easy to set up.

FYI: Also, the remote DOES glow in the dark.

You get a lot for a very cheap price. I think its an excellent option if you want a cheap solid tv.

4-0 out of 5 stars Somebody needs to test it before they write a description.
T.V. works great...only the description says, "front firing stereo speakers" --it is mono...the description says "glow in the dark remote" -- I've spent hours in the dark waiting for it to glow. The inputs (monoraul) for DVD or VCR are in the front. Coax in the back.

One other problem -- the remote also changes channels on my 42" tv. You'd think Toshiba would code their remotes for different products. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars $1100 Computer for teens
I just bought this computer from the Army Air Force Exchange. I am returning it after I remove my personal data.
My problems started with the USB ports. The computer has three USB ports, but only 1 USB Controller. I had a Web Cam, Ext Sound Card (w/ext power) and tried to connect my Memorex Thumb Drive. It locked the computer up. After locating the above deficiency in the engineering, I attempted to attach the 3 items to a externally powered USB Hub, with the same results. I was willing to work with this due to the reasonable price, but started finding that the software (Office 2003 - Teacher/Student Edition & Quicken 2004) that was installed were trial versions, that would have to be upgraded within 60 days. There is an abundance of software that keeps popping up to be loaded/DL'd (note; you can't tell when something is being DL'd, looked like computer locked up). Suspect that these may be trial versions as well. I would recommend it for a 15 y/o, if you have S/W already on hand to install. This experience was like buying a lot of Pop-up ads (a Toshiba Ad Campaign). I suspect that you would end up spending another $300 on S/W to get this up to a typical S/W package that comes with a New Computer. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Had to return mine, screen doesn't respond
When I first took it out of the box, it didn't, but I thought that was because the battery needed to be charged. I did finally get it setup and working. It was beautiful. Then the screen started acting weird, I'd tap the scroll bar and the today screen would pop back up, or I'd tape the "next" button and a different program would flash and then go away and then back to the today screen. Sometimes I'd turn it on and the screen wouldn't respond, then all of a sudden it did again. It was getting so bad that I hard reset and still couldn't get the screen to respond. I tried calling Toshiba, who only offers 90 days tech support, and they said they'd have someone call me back. A week later, I called them again and a week later I called a third time. Finally, I couldn't get the unit to respond at all, so I called J&R (where I purchased it via Amazon link) and they told me to send it back. They'd check it out and IF they found a problem they'd exchange it and refund my shipping fee. A lot of hassle for a very expensive machine, Toshiba is awful. I hope J&R comes through, as they agreed. They were nice on the phone, I think they will.
I did get my new, replacement from J&R. I was charged for it and I'm still waiting for them to credit me for the one I returned to them. The new one works MUCH better! It's a pleasure to use. I've only let the battery run down once; it stays pretty good, 4 or 5 days with normal use. This screen works the way it should. It responds well and it's really quick. I restored from a backup on my CF card and was up and running in seconds. I really love it. I like the CF and SD card slots and the fast processor. I like it much better than the iPAQ 5455 I had.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love mine, more pros than cons
I had the iPAQ but I had to have an expansion pack to use a CF card and the battery seemed to die everyday. This has everything I want built in. I know it doesn't have Bluetooth, but either does my laptop or cell phone but both have IR so the included IR on the e805 was important. I have a 1gb CF card and a 512sd card which are recognized without a hitch (not the case on my iPAQ where I constantly had to soft boot) WiFi configured really easily. I backed up my new unit and did a hard reset and restore, which worked perfectly and easily. I love the large screen for viewing my photos and short mov videos and my maps from pocket streets, the included apps are great but I did have one multimedia app from my iPAQ that I use and love. Battery lasts about 3 days w/normal use. Not as large as I expected, but then the iPAQ w/expansion was very large and heavy. I use a leather case for the e740 which was tight at first, but works great. Toshiba isn't the greatest with support or customer service and this unit didn't come with ANYthing, no cards, no screen cover, no case, which did come with my iPAQ. But I love the built in CF and SD cards, the large screen, ease of use voice recorder. The only thing I don't like is the stylus.

1-0 out of 5 stars e-805 Toshiba PDA
The toggle switch on my new e805 broke the second time I moved it from WiFi to off. I sent the unit in under warrenty. Toshiba warrenty department said the mother board must be replaced to fix the toggle switch and is not covered under warrenty. They charged $125.00 to repair unit. I've bought a lot of Toshiba products, this will be the last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Fine !
I purchased the e805 dispite the bad reviews here and let me tell you mine works fine. I use it with navagation software and find it works way better than I expected.(travroute) E-mail works fine as does connecting to wireless internet services. I have had no problems with the screen. Not to mention I got lucky and paid $499.00 from COMPUSA. 2 THUMBS UP...Anyone interested in navagation software should give TRAVROUTE a try.

2-0 out of 5 stars A very unhappy camper
I placed one of the earliest orders for this unit. The unit is fine, as far as that goes.
Feb 2, 2004
Now I am having problems with the device (see appended comments below)

March 18, 2004
More problems: the unit is now inoperable (see appended comments)

Additional Comments as of 2004-02-08:
1) The touch screen is now starting to malfunction. When I first turn the unit on I am getting many clicks (as if I am tapping the screen, which I am not). Also, later, if I even touch the case at the upper/right corner (not even near the actual display) the unit clicks (as if I am tapping the screen). Also upper sides of case sometimes.
2) Status of Toshiba Order for critical supplies (screen overlays and replacement styli):
Shipping is Waiting to Pack Order (from Toshiba account status)
In other words, they still don't have the items. About March 10, 2004 the screen overlays FINALLY arrived. Not a bad turnaround for something critical - two months. However, the unit is now inoperable, the screen does not respond. Did a total system reset, was operable for awhile. Then, screen clicking like a geiger counter it has stopped responding again. ... Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba takes DLP technology into the future with its 46-inch TheaterWide 46HM84 HD-ready rear-projection TV. The 16:9 46HM84 uses a proprietary system called TALEN (Toshiba Advanced Light Engine); based on Texas Instruments' HD2+ DLP chip, it enhances brightness and contrast while keeping the 1,280 x 720-pixel progressive resolution (720p). Toshiba's TheaterWide TVs challenge direct-view CRT models when it comes to reproducing deep blacks and details in dark or shadowy scenes.

What is DLP?
The DLP processor DLP, or Digital Light Processing, is a technology that bounces a colored light beam across an array of hundreds of thousands of hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors attached to a single chip, called a "micro mirror device" (below, pictured with the head of a pin).
DLP mirrors dwarfed by the head of a pin
Each of the mirrors can be pointed toward or away from the light source thousands of times per second, providing not only minute color detail but also sharper resolution than even LCD displays.
Detail of resolution comparison between LCD and DLP
This set is HDTV-ready (it needs an optional hi-def receiver to get HD signals), but can improve standard-definition video thanks to Toshiba's multi-step PixelPure video processing system, which optimizes the three main picture quality factors: resolution, contrast, and color. All incoming signals are upconverted by the built-in "scaler" to match the DLP chip's native 720p resolution.

PixelPure encompasses 8 different processing circuits. Among its components are: 6.2 million-pixel oversampling (for higher perceived resolution), real-speed progressive scanning (which uses additional sampling points to create smoother diagonal lines), a Magic Square algorithm (for smooth, natural color gradation), Dynamic Contrast Enhancer (for higher perceived contrast and increased color saturation), and Color Detail Enhancer (to maintain fine image detail in color-saturated areas).

DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology uses an optical semiconductor, known as the Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD chip, to digitally manipulate light. The chip contains a rectangular array of up to 1.3 million microscopic mirrors, each of which measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair. A DMD panel's micromirrors are mounted on tiny hinges that enable them to tilt either toward the light source (on) or away from it (off)--creating a light or dark pixel on the projection surface. The bit-streamed image code entering the semiconductor directs each mirror to switch on and off up to several thousand times per second, such that the mirrors can reflect pixels in up to 1,024 shades of gray.

The HD2+ DLP chip ensures an ultra-clean image by filling in the dimples, or vias, in the mirrors to avoid stray light. It increases both brightness and contrast, resulting in an impressive color-corrected contrast ratio (2,200:1) at 1,100 ANSI Lumens. The set's TheaterFine HD Super Fine Pitch screen reduces the physical space between the lines on the lenticular screen, resulting in a finer, sharper, more detailed picture.

Toshiba's DFine Hi-Speed VSM (velocity scan modulation) improves contrast and overall picture sharpness, while the CableClear DNR+ digital noise reduction optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, further eliminating video noise ("snow") for a clean, crisp image. Cinema Mode circuitry (3:2 pulldown switch) identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material.

A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction helps eliminate dot crawl and color bleed and significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes. Color temperature controls allow you to adjust white balance. The "Warm" setting reduces the color temperature to an NTSC standard 6,500 degrees Kelvin and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. "Medium" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased.

The 46HM84 has plenty of inputs for connecting all your audio and video components. In back you'll find two RF, two composite video, two S-video, and two HD ColorStream component video, as well as an HDMI digital input. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is an uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface that supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus 8-channel digital audio--all on a single cable. A set of front composite and S-video inputs make hooking up a game console or camcorder a snap.

Other features include HD Window dual-tuner POP (picture-on-picture) with PIP sound for listening to two programs simultaneously, the new Radiance DC lamp with high brightness and lower power modes for extended life, individual audio/video settings by input type, sleep and wake timers, Real Speed progressive scanning to create smoother diagonal lines, Color Transient Improver for sharp transitions on color changes without bleeding, and Color Detail Enhancer to maintain fine image detail in color saturated areas.

Aside from the 20-watts-per-channel stereo speaker system, the 46HM84 uses MTS for programming with stereo sound, SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language. Meanwhile, SRS WOW combines 3D Sound (simulated surround sound from any stereo audio) with TruBass (yet another low-frequency enhancement) and Focus (which clarifies voices). The StableSound volume leveler eliminates drastic volume spikes while changing channels or when channels go to a commercial break.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy
I've had two of these televisions delivered; both of the them had cracked casings.Toshiba doesn't use enough packing material in the boxes to protect them properly. The second TV we received was packed upside down in the box.If just one TV had been damaged, I would have considered it a fluke.Amazon has been nice about the problem but it's not worth the hassle.Next time I'm going to the store where I can see the TV I'm buying before I get it home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best value, great picture
My 15-year-old set finally blew a gasket and I needed a new set using post-holiday funds (limited!).On-line research pointed to Toshiba, so I set off on my search with this in mind.I went to Best Buy and asked the department clerk that if he wanted a new set in the 27"+ size with a budget capping at $300, what would he chose? This set was his answer. The manufacturer thoughtfully added reinforced hand-slots in the box, offset to balance the weight of the set, so my friend and I had a reasonably easy time hauling this home.Set up was quick and easy. The initial video settings made the picture very, very vibrant, but it was easy to tone down.Skin tones are the best I've ever seen. The universal remote is sensibly laid out, and I had no problem programming it to control my DVD player, but need to contact the manufacturer, as neither code worked on my cable box, and there is no back up plan in the manual. The sound is exceptional as this model has 5 watts/channel, where competitors are mostly in the 1.5 area.I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It!
I purchased this television by accident; I had wanted a flat-screen, but the price was so great on this TV at the time, I failed to notice it wasn't a flat-screen until I got home. My error turned out to be a good thing, though. I absolutely love this television. I am able to hook up my DVD player, PS2, and Gamecube all at once. The picture-quality and the sound-quality are amazing. No complaints with the remote, either. Overall a wonderful television I plan to keep for a very long time. ... Read more

Improving upon standard interlaced signals (like those from DVD player, cable box, and VCR composite-video outputs), Toshiba's CrystalScan HDSC upconverts all signals to 1080i resolution. A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction ensures sharp, clean pictures from RF (older VCR, laserdisc) and composite-video signals.

DFine high-speed VSM (velocity-scan modulation) also improves definition at picture edges by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. Finally, Cinema Mode (3:2 pulldown reversal) circuitry identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material.

As standard video amplifiers increase the gain of the video signal, video bandwidth tends to decrease. This eliminates the higher frequencies, reducing resolution. The 34HF84's wideband video amplifier maintains the higher frequencies, enabling higher resolution and greater sharpness and detail.

Dual ColorStream HD component-video inputs (Y, Pr, Pb) provide the ultimate picture quality from high-resolution component-video signals (as from compatible DVD players or satellite receivers). And, with direct video input selection, you can directly select inputs from the remote's numbered keypad instead of having to scroll through all of them.

Two sets of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs (all including S-video) foster easy connection with a camcorder or gaming console, and a rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver.

The set's stereo speakers are powered by 10 watts per channel, and SRS WOW processing combines 3D Sound (simulated surround sound from any stereo audio) with TruBass low-frequency enhancement, and Focus (which clarifies voices).

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your television. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multichannel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

Amazon.com Product Description

Perfect for a kitchen, office, bedroom, or den, Toshiba's slim and stylish 14-inch 14DL74 flat-panel LCD enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) can put a lot of screen in a little space. When connected to an optional HDTV receiver, its EDTV compatibility means all video sources are converted to crisp, clear 480p, a progressive-scan format that is capable of displaying an entire frame in a single pass, with 60 full frames per second. The advantage is a reduction in flicker and a more filmlike picture quality.

A four-line comb filter helps eliminate dot crawl and color bleeding, enhancing fine detail, cleaning up image outlines, and removing most extraneous colors. And with LCD TVs, there's no risk of image burn-in, so you don't have to be concerned with still images on your screen. The high 500:1 contrast ratio gives you better subtle color details and the ability to see the picture in bright light conditions. Toshiba's CT-864 remote allows for immediate access to basics like channel changing and volume as well as picture and sound adjustments and input switching. And since it glows, you can do them all in low-lighting conditions.

Built-in speakers (2.5 watts per channel) sit below the 4:3 aspect ratio screen, giving you full stereo sound without needing to connect to an external speaker system. News, Hall, and Theater sound modes help recreate audio environment conditions for more realistic sound reproduction.

The 14DL74 isn't without its fair share of hookups, either. In addition to a standard jack for your cable or antenna feed for use with the internal 181-channel NTSC tuner, there are two rear-panel composite-video inputs as well as a rear component jack and two S-video inputs. These are perfect for connecting a VCR, camcorder, gaming system, or DVD player, letting you create a complete entertainment center in cramped quarters. There's also a mini stereo headphone jack in case you need to keep the sound to yourself.

At less than 3 inches deep and just 8 pounds, this flat-panel LCD TV can easily be mounted on a wall (with an optional bracket) to keep it up and out of the way. Or use the included tilt-and-swivel stand to use on a shelf or entertainment center.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product-no extended warranty from Toshiba
This TV is as advertised an excellent product. When I contacted Toshiba to purchase an extended warranty I was told that Toshiba does not offer an extended warranty on ths TV because they cannot find competant repair people in the field to service this TV. This is very dissapointing and I am concerned about service after the 1 year warranty expires. There is a extended warranty offered by NEW but this is only a 1 year extention on the existing warranty for $299.99. Not acceptable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BLOWS PANASONIC AND SAMSUNG OUT OF THE WATER!
The sound is absolutely phenomonial as well as the picture.

I have owned a Panasonic DVD-LA95 and DVD-L50 and they are not even compariable to the SD-P2500.My friend has a Samsung L200 and it is not even on the same level even though the L200 has a bigger screen.

I cannot say enought good things about the SD-P2500.I don't understand why one of the other reviews says that it is too big to be portable, it is a perfect 8.9" portable dvd player. The picture quality is flawless. It has a really awesome 3-D on screen menu, a option to plug in your digital camera or has a memory card slot as well.

I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't leave home without it.
I travel a lot, and since I bought SD-P2500 I cannot imagine travelling without it. While I never owned a competing model, I've looked at them, researched them and this is the one to get. 8.9'' screen is just the right size -- probably the biggest you can have and still call it portable. The sound and picture quality is simply great. Two headphone jacks can definitely be handy. The battery lasts, and charges fast. And now, four months later, I can also add that this DVD Player can live through a lot of abuse. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!SPONGEBOB TO SOOTH THE SOUL!
My 16 month old daughter and 12 year old step-daughter love that I have purchased this portable dvd player.Long car rides will never be the same again.Plus I'm sure my husband will get a lot of use taking it to work with him.I own a 2002 Dodge Durango and this unit fits perfectly between the two front seats and with my youngest behind me in her car seat she can't reach the unit to kick it. Battery life is long and charges quickly.Picture quality and sound is so good I don't need headphones to enjoy anything I am watching. This unit isn't very expensive for all the quality you get out of it so don't buy the cheap Minitek models because this one smokes them all.

It doesn't come with a car adapter, but go on ebay and they sell them cheap.Because of the size of the screen it was hard to find a decent case because most of them will only accomidate barely 8 inches.I went to Circuit City and they sell a bag called "Targus" and this bag will do the trick.I even brought my Toshiba 2500 into the store and sized it up.Plus the bag holds extra dvd's and cables, really a good buy and I recommend picking it up because this one switches from a back-of-chair viewing to a suspension between the two front seats.

If you can get your hands on this please do so.I did my homework on portable dvd players for over 6 months and I am proud to say I know I couldn't have done any better.

5-0 out of 5 stars The T SDP2500 makes travel a JOY!!!
Outstanding picture. Plug in two (there are two jacks) Sennheiser noise reduction headphones and you and your traveling partner are in HEAVEN at only 30,000 feet. Then drop in a CD for some nice mood music at the destination or a DVD and plug into the TV for across the room viewing. This IS the way to travel AND the SDP2500 is the best DVD portable I have seen. We get over 3 hours from the 3 hour battery and over 5 from the 5 hour optional battery - take both batteries and you have 8+ hours - plus they recharge quickly.

Not cheap - but I don't mind paying if I get results and the SDP2500 DELIVERS.

Only dissatisfaction is that some of the many, many functions are only available with the remote control. You can certainly do all the basics without the remote - but need it to get fancy.

We love the SDP2500, and never, never travel without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars love it!
bought this player afer about a year of research. i agree with most of the reviews here-this player is great. picture on the 9 in screen is really wonderful, able to view it from all but the most extreme side angles. i think the sound is good too-those that are complaining about the sound are really asking too much from a portable dvd player, in my opinion. we cannot expect movie theatre quality surround sound from a player hardly the size of my nieces geomtry book. why does the movie theatre sound so good? cuz its a movie theatre, duh! can you hear you movie sitting in front of the player? yes. can you hear it from across the room? yes.(although this may not be a good thing, after my son was on his 4th viewing of monsters inc, on a two day trip!)can you hear it in the middle of an indoor waterpark? YES! enough said.
took it on a recent trip, afore mentioned waterpark, with 5 other families, two of which had dvd players also. all the kids eneded up in my room after dinner, crowded around to watch movies. 10 kids, all could see, all could hear, all were quiet for almost two hours. BLISS! me: satisfied. other parents: JEALOUS! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This item does NOT contain a DVD - Don't buy it!
I have been waiting for Toshiba to replace its horribly trouble-prone 14" Flatscreen/DVD combo, so when this was posted on Amazon, I threw caution to the wind and ordered it as soon as I saw it (for a vacation, wouldn't you know it?).The price is fantastic, isn't it?That is because it does NOT have a DVD player, as described a/o Apr 10, 2005.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent performance at a bargain price.
A few months ago I decided to switch from a dial-up internet service provider with a 56K modem to cable internet service with the a cable modem. The cable modem service has several advantages: (1) I don't have to dial a number to access it; it's on all the time, (2) It's MUCH faster than a 56K modem, and (3) using my computer via a cable modem doesn't tie up my telephone line. My cable company specifically recommended that I buy a Toshiba cable modem so I bought the new Toshiba Pcx2200. For the several months I've had it, it has performed flawlessly and I am thoroughly satisfied with it. Furthermore, it is quite versatile: it works with both PCs and Macs (I use a Mac) and is compatible with both ethernet and USB interfaces. The low price was a pleasant surprise -- many other cable modems that were not specifically recommended by my cable company were more expensive. I've had a long histrory of satisfaction with Toshiba products and highly recommend this one.

3-0 out of 5 stars PCX2200 - - maybe, maybe not...
Just installed this but had to do it in a roundabout way. First off, the modem has big warning signs not to connect any cables until the software tells you to. Ok fine. I pop in the CD, it goes through the instructions. It does tell you to plug in the AC adapter into the back of the modem. It doesn't tell you when to plug it into an electrical outlet. By the time it starts trying to detect the modem (and fails, obviously,) I figure I better plug it into the wall.

Even with the modem plugged in, the software can't detect the modem if you're running through a router. Doesn't seem to need the drivers, at least if you're running through an ethernet card. The installation troubleshooting guide was no help. I gave up on the software running in circles and exited. In spite of all this it still worked once I gave the cable company my MAC ID. (Software still can't detect the modem, though.)

Here's the strange part. I've been running speedtests on two different computers. The Win98 computer that the modem is directly connected to runs really, really slow and doesn't come near my 1.5MB connection. My other WinXP computer that is networked through a wireless router gets nice 1.5MB transfer rates off this same modem. Go figure.

I can't speculate on why one computer runs slow and another runs fast, but I can say I had a Motorola Surfboard SB5120 before this and I didn't have these problems, even when running through a router.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great and cheap!
It's a recommended modem with my cable company - which, previously, with an old motorola, I assumed meant it would work with the cable connection. The motorola didn't, but the cheaper toshiba did!

2-0 out of 5 stars Told By Apartment Complex That It Doesn't Work on Their Syst
Apartment complex has it's own cable system. I purchased this product but before I opened it I checked with the complex and was told that the last 4 Toshiba modems they tried to hook up didn't work. They said the Motorola or Linksys modems worked fine. They talked with the Toshiba tech support but still couldn't get it going for some reason. So just a word of warning to check with your cable supplier before making a decision on the modem. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Stay away from Toshiba's!
This PDA is one of the worst Windoze PDA's out there and has not user replaceable battery. It will be a paper weight in 1.5 yrs.

Battery life is very low per charge, it will stay more on the power adaptor than in use. Useless on long trips.

The Windoze OS is a bad idea for handhelds. Comparing raw MHz/MB or advertized feature set is not a good idea with PDA's. (8MB on Palm OS does more than 64MB on bloated Windoze.) All the cool features look great for first few weeks and then the gadget might stay in your drawer!

Easy of use, reliability, battery life and intuitive software (like a Nokia) are more important than voice recording, mp3 playback and video. Check out the "Zen of Palm" if you aren't convinced that Palm OS is much better.

Toshiba support for their PDA's is horrible and build quality is poor. I think I have given enough warning to stay away from this. If you desperately want a PC in your Pocket buy an iPaq.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy for the Price!
Ok, like anything it depends on your needs. But, for my needs, the E355 meets and exceeds my needs. No need to rate it significantly lower because it doesn't have a removable battery or because it only has a SD slot and no CF. Instead, I realized this before I bought it, considered these features along with the price which was ... cheaper here, and decided it was worth it.

I've had the E355 for about 3 weeks and had recently purchased a used Cassiopeia E-125 and was very happy with that purchase as well. The reason I upgraded was because a friend of mine wanted the E-125 at the price I purchased it for and I was convinced that for ... more, I could get a faster PPC with more memory, smaller size, and upgraded OS.

Now, the reason I didn't give it 5 stars is you get what you pay for. For the money, this is the best deal if you consider the reasons I mentioned previously. If I was getting a removable battery and a CF slot in addition to the SD slot, and was paying the same price, I'd rate it 5 stars. But, I'm not getting that.

On a message board, I seen someone say that it would better to purchase the Dell Axim X5 (Basic) for the same price. But, the X5 Basic only has 32MB of RAM. You would need to purchase the more expensive X5 Advanced to get the same amount of RAM. Not to mention at the time, X5 users were upset about the slow speed of their OS or processors and Dell is now sending out CDs with a fix.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
I recently purchased this PPc. It was the first one I had purchased and found it very easy to use. I used it mostly for taking notes, and keep an organized schedule after I purchased the Targus Universal Keyboard, which works very well with the e355. I was impressed with the battery life on medium settings which gave about 3-4 hours of battery life.

Hopefully this review will give a student a little insight into this "student" view of this.

4-0 out of 5 stars A pda to have
I am a high school teacher. I wanted something to take notes on and to remind me when homework was due. I searched far and wide reading review after review. I got alot more than that with the e355. I have been using it for about 3.5 months now.
I'll just list the Pros and Cons becasue i could go on all day!

Pros:
1. Great speed.
2. Works right out of the box.
3. Excellent battery life (3.5 to 4hrs continuous running)
4. Crisp display. (especially for video playback)
5. Smooth buttons that feel pretty nice on your fingers.
6. Good price for the quality you get
7. The speakers on this player play audio in the best way i have heard for a small speaker unit. You would not believe that a pda could do so well with sound. It plays my mp3s, wma, anything and don't forget the videos.
8. It has a SD card slot so you can expand the memory at any time. the SD card slot has a dummy card that protects it from being damaged by dust or other particles.
9. Quick charge time. Good size storage built in, 64mb.
10. Windows Mobile 2003 is much much much more stable than its predeccessor.
11. It's much much much thinner than many other pda's i have reviewed.
12. It's much more resiliant to 'falls to the floor' than the Dell or Ipaqs for example. I'm a teacher. I can guarantee you...running around the class will lead to a fall on the ground. It has a metallic covering. (no shaking inside!)

Cons.
1. Sometimes if you use up close to 90% of the memory, it stalls.
2. The 'record audio' button is placed near the top so sometimes taking it out you may mistakedly begin recording. (this can be disabled though so it is not really a con)
3. It does not include the ability to 'go wireless' for internet. You can still access the internet though but you need to be connected to your computer. I did not need wireless internet just yet. When it does become ubiquitous...maybe then i'll go for something else.
4. The battery is not removeable. By the time this actually becomes a problem I'll be getting a new pda..about 2 to 3 years from now.

THis is an excellent PDA is you do not need wireless internet access right away.
I would recommend it with all authority people out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars good pocket pc
I dont know whats going on with amazon.com because I bought this pocket pc a month ago here for 165 dollars and now it costs more than two hundred. Anyways its a great pocket pc with 32 mb storage capacity, runs all the latest games fine (www.handango.com or www.pocketgear.com). My only complaint is that I have no clue whats going on with the battery on this thing. If i charge it and leave it alone for one week the battery drops to zero. ... Read more
