1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
This was my first digital camera and I spent my hard earned money on it. Picture quality indoors was very poor, outside was ok. Downloads were easy and fast. Battery life was a joke,it would never be consistant on how long they would last a day or two weeks..I used rechargable ones from the start and had two kinds it never made a difference.
Now after 6 mo the camera will not recognize the charged battery at all.I have tried every thing new batteries 3 kinds and still nothing . So basically I have a useless camera, tech support at Toshiba is worthless and no one will work on the camera around here..they tell me to throw it away and buy something other than Toshiba.Great! Well that finished me with ever buying a Toshiba product again and you can be sure I will tell EVERYONE I know, that they need to look elsewherefor a better company and product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Toshiba PDR 3300 digital camara
Even if it was for free It's not worth your time or money
Battery life is horendous that you will never have a pleasant day taking pictures with this camara. Plus it has some flaky problem that it does not always turn on even if it has battery life left.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst camera and company on the planet
My camera was DOA upon arrival. It never worked from the minute that I opened the factory sealed box.

Toshiba offered to fix it if I mailed it to their service center and waited 4-6 weeks for them to repair it. Yeah, right.

My other option was to buy an identical camera from them and if I mail in this piece of junk they will give me a "discount" on my next purchase. I shouldn't have to PAY MONEY to get a camera replaced that never worked and is supposedly under warranty.

The bottom line is that the product is a piece of junk that never worked. The fact that the repair department has a 4-6 week backlog proves that these cameras are junk.

I will never buy any Toshiba product again in my life. I am very dissapointed with this camera and the way Toshiba treats their customers after the sale is downright insulting.

1-0 out of 5 stars Trust me - Avoid all Toshiba products
I hate the fact that I have to write this negative review but do yourself a huge favor and buy anything but a Toshiba camera. I bought the PDR-M25 from Toshiba and it didn't work when I received the unit. The LCD display on the back didn't work and the unit was basically a factory defect.

I contact Toshiba and they tell me that I have two (2) choices.

#1) - Send the camera to a "repair facility" in Illinois and wait 4-6 weeks for the camera to be repaired and returned to me.

#2) - I can "trade-in" my defective camera for another unit and since I'm trading-in the JUNK they sent me in the first place they are willing to give me a discount on the other camera.

This is completely unacceptable. I have filed a written complaing against Toshiba with my states attorney generals office and I will never buy any product from Toshiba again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for the money
This camera is of medium size, medium resolution (2.2mp) and medium quality (the flash cover fell off - who would have thought?). It has cool 3x optical zoom. It eats batteries up like candy, but I bought rechargeable, longer lasting ones so its not such a problem. Its lens cap doesn't stay on.
The low down: if you want a camera the takes beautiful pictures, spend... more on a fancy newer model with 3.2 or higher resolution.
If you want a camera that is cost effective and records memories and does all the same stuff as any other digital camera (it even has some special settings which I haven't investigated much, like shutter speed) in only very slightly imperfect 2D form, buy this one used and be careful with the lense and flash cover (though it's absence doesn't seem to affect performance). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Good TV, With A Good Price
I just bought this model Toshiba Tv yesterday, it has a great price to it and it was easy to set up. After taking it out of it's huge box and hooking it up, I was impressed by it's picture clearity and sound, even though to me the sound seems a little muffled, but still satisfactory. This is my first television of this size but I have always looked at there picture quality instores and always found them to have a dull picture image. But this television seems to not fall into that catergory. I so far can highly recommend purchasing this tv.

3-0 out of 5 stars Replacement is fine, Amazon customer service not so fine
I received my first Toshiba set about two weeks ago. After I had it set up and running I noticed large areas of extreme discoloration, green in the upper left corner, almost the entire right half was purplish, etc. I promptly contacted Amazon about this (via email of course) and their response was hesitant-they said they normally DO NOT DO EXCHANGES ON TV SETS OVER 27" BUT WOULD BE WILLING TO BREAK THE RULES ON A ONE TIME BASIS AND REPLACE MINE 10 DAYS LATER. I found that insulting AND ridiculous and told them so. It was as if they were doing me a favor by replacing the defective unit.

There should be no question that if a product they sell us is defective, it should be replaced with one that properly works, no questions asked.

I did receive my replacement tv last week and it works just fine for a tube television, color is good, sound is fine, etc.

I just doubt I'll be buying any higher-priced items from Amazon again. Plus having to correspond solely through email and waiting 24-48 hours for their response is mind-numbing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice 32 inch TV for the price!
I purchased a 20 inch Toshiba about eight years ago and it is just as picture perfect as the day I brought it home. I considered buying a flat screen TV because the set faces the sun. Decided to wait for better deals on HDTVs or flat screens, but I'm perfectly happy with this model. A temporary adjustment is required to the antenna since I don't have satelliteconnected yet; the picture is a little grainy if you don't adjust the dial on the antenna. Once it's tuned, the color is very bold and the sound has good quality. DVD movies are awesome! Toshiba is an excellent manufacturer. Found very good deal on this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars 32in.Toshiba round screen tv.
When I first purchased my toshiba tv I kind of knew what to expect, But when I first turned it on I was blown away, The colors was excellent, The picture was bright and clear without being blinding as some tvs are,The black level balances very well with the rest of the picture without giving the picture a murky look. So with a few small adjustments for my living room it was great. The sound was pure and clean and projects across the room very well, Even at higher volume levels the sound remains crisp and clear. For someone on a small budget this tv is priced at a good price too.I compared many brands(rca.jvc.sony)and they are all good tvs, But the toshiba has that little something extra that makes it stand out above all the others. So for price and quality I would recommend this tv above all the others.
I'M SOLD.

2-0 out of 5 stars SCREEN BLACKS OUT MOMENTARILY DURING FLASHES
SOME OF MY SHOWS,WHETHER ITS A DIGITAL RECORDING,VCR TAPE OR LIVE TV,BLACKS OUT FOR AN INSTANT AND DOES IT EVERY TIME DURING THE 90210 SHOW INTRO.....PLUS THIS UNIT ALSO DOES NOT HAVE INTERNAL S-VIDEO SWITCHING,SO WHEN YOU HOOK IT UP COMPOSITE VIDEO NO LONGER WORKS.PLUS MOST CABLE BROADCASTS DONT HAVE A HIGH RESOLUTION SO THE PICTURE ONLY LOOKS GREAT ON SOME SHOWS.....PHOOOEY! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love it
Truly a great PDA. The smallest one I've ever owned (3rd, of 4 total), and one of the fastest.

Pros:
-Tiny, light
-Blazing fast
-Long battery life
-Bright screen
-Very loud speakers for the size
-Can run multiple (6-10) programs without major problems
-Expandable through SD slot
-Great for reading E-Books, several included on the CD
-Sync feature is easy to use, yet allows to get contacts, notes, e-mail, even websites
-Sturdy - A high drop (from a shelf in my book-case) did absolutely no damage
-Inexpensive, great value

cons:
-Was hard to find a new unit (bought mine a few months ago, used), Toshiba stopped selling this, for whatever reason
-32 MB means you might want to get SD card if you're going to be watching movies, I got a 256mb card, holds an entire movie in great quality, and still holds a bunch of MP3's
-Doesn't come with headphones

If you buy it, hope you enjoy it as much as I did

5-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA for the price
I've been using my toshiba for 4 months now, and I believe its a great model out there in the PDA market. Packed with Pocket PC 2002 OS, the e310 is thin and lightweight, copared to other pocket pc's out there.

The pocket pc 2002 OS is far much better than the latest Palm OS. As you may know, it comes loaded with tons of software, familiar in the regular Windows environment.

Pros.

- Size, weight
- Crisp Screen, good speaker
- Fast processor
- A whole bunch of applications to use

Cons
- It tends to crash sometimes, (erases all info, very annoying)
- Only 32MB (although SD expandable)
- Battery doesn't last as much as other PDA's

My verdict:

- For this price, excellent choice. (thats the reason for five stars)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA
This PDA has been a faithful friend for over two years. I never thought I would keep a PDA for two years. Technology moves so fast, but this has kept up. It syncs my email & contacts easily so that I can refer to them on the road. It also syncs top news stories from the internet, that is fun. The display is great, easy to read, and has withstood the test of time. And with Pocket PC it is very intuitive and easy to use. The battery keeps its charge for several days. (Which is good because I forget to cradle it sometimes.) The only problem is when you let the battery die completely you have to go through the set up routine. But that hasn't happened to me in over a year now. I might get a new one just because I want wireless internet capability. But they have come out with a SD compatible wireless card. So when I first got this wireless was not an option. Now it is. Great!

3-0 out of 5 stars Some problems to consider
I've had an i-310 for over two years now and although I like it and it preforms well for my use (mainly calander and contacts) I've found several problems. These may be inherent in all PDAs, I don't know.
First it interferes with my computer if I leave it connected all the time. I usually put in on the cradle to sync once a day, and then cradle it in the evening after shutting down my computer to charge the unit.
Second, the unit loses it's ablility to turn off manually. It still shuts off automatically, but you can't physically turn it off. This continues to happen, even though I have downloaded the software updates. The main issue this cause is battery use.
Third some of the buttons are sloppy. You push them once and they click twice, so can't use the button short cuts and have to use the stylist all the time.
Fourth, and this is the biggests for me, is the battery is wearing out. You can only get a new battery by sending it back to Toshiba. They quoted me today a price of $120-$170. So you might as well consider this a disposable unit that will last about 2.5 years. This is a big issue, because if you aren't careful this can screw up your info on your PC, and you will also have to resync (no big deal) and re-download all updates if you get it repaired.
If you have the budget I would highly recommend buying a unit with a replaceable battery.

1-0 out of 5 stars many important problems
I think this PDA has problems that would make it a better paperweight than PDA.
first of all, I agree with another reviewer, WILL NOT CHARGE to 100% even with days on charger, and spontaneously discharges at a fantastic rate-to 30% over three days just sitting on my dresser. Starts to warn you when there is over 40% of battery left, annoying, but necessary, since 40% battery left means you have about 10 minutes more in my experience.
The alarms are always going off, but there is nothing to tell me what the heck it is alarming about, I can search all over sometimes and not be able to figure it out. My husband's Treo puts the alarm message right there on the front page for you to easily see what's up.
I used a San Disk backup card, and it froze the system, losing all data from my first couple of weeks of input. Toshiba says " large San Disk cards (128) not compatable"
I thought I would be able to listen to MP3s but the volume adjustment jumps in levels. One level is too loud and the other too soft. went to a PDA site, others were complaining about the same thing with the volume adjustment. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Toshiba 20AF45 20 inch FST Pure TV packs a high-end feature set into a mid-sized, not-quite-traditional flat tube unit. The 20 inch FST Pure flat tube eliminates unwanted reflections from room light compared to conventional tube designs and increases viewing angle. An Invar shadow mask enhances color reproduction thanks to its nickel-alloy construction. There's even a 16:9 mode for viewing widescreen content--a feature almost always reserved for larger units.

Toshiba didn't forget the audio either. Double baffle speakers provide improved stereo, without connecting additional speakers. And the StableSound technology maintains volume, even when commercials try to shout at you. MTS Stereo/SAP with dbx provides full broadcast stereo quality with access to bilingual or secondary audio signals.

The TV boasts a wide array of input types too. There's the user-friendly front A/V connections, as well as rear A/V inputs, as well as S-Video, ColorStream component video, and the old school RF input. All these options mean you can connect most any device to this TV quickly and easily.

The 20AF45 includes trilingual display, offering English, French and Spanish. The font A/V inputs make it easy to connect video devices or game consoles. And the headphone jack lets you watch TV without disturbing friends and family.

This TV ranks high with parents too. A GameTimer allows for parental control of playing time. The V-Chip and channel lock features let parents control what their children view.

If you're looking for a mid-sized TV that includes high-end features typically reserved for big units, the Toshiba 20AF45 is definitely worth a look. You'll be hard-pressed to find a comparable mid-sized, feature-rich TV.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still not good enough for a 20" flat screen
Toshiba has always had superior picture and sound compared to other TVs in the same size range, even Sony. However this new model doesn't quite cut it.First of all, when watching regular antenna signals or cable, there is a ghosting bar down the left side of the screen (not just my product, the display at Best Buy did the same thing, but I thought it might just be that one...I was wrong), and there is an upward curve of the picture on all inputs from the bottom-left corner up.If you can deal with this, so be it, but I cannot. What's the point of having a flat screen if it isn't straight and clear across the whole screen? This one's going back to Best Buy just like all the others.

NO GHOSTING ON NEW MODELS!!!GET IT STRAIGHT!!!I'M TALKING TO YOU TOSHIBA, SONY, MAGNAVOX, PHILIPS, SAMSUNG, PANASONIC!!!YOU ALL ARE MAKING CRAPPY TELEVISIONS!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture and Very Portable
I find this unit is well built and it has an excellent picture with a good quality signal source in.While a tad heavy relative to what you would guess while looking at it, I transport it easily in a 15"H x 3"W x 18"L padded portfolio laptop-styled carry bag and use it mostly on my boat.I have had no trouble playing any DVD's in it and they too present a very fine picture. I suspect another reviwer who complains got a bad sample or lacks a decent antenna system or signal source in. I don't have his problems and have compared the picture directly and favorably to my high quality large Sony TV picture with a satillite signal into each and adjusting distance for each. A very nice unit.

2-0 out of 5 stars Big, but bad
Pros>>>
- Big Screen
- Great sound
- Versitile positioning options
- Great connectivity options

Cons>>>
- Very poor screen resolution.Everything is pixelated and fuzzy (not good when you're expecting a DVD quality picture)
- Very heavy.I expected it to be somewhat heavy given the screen size, but it's quite a bit bigger than I expected.Much bigger and heavier than my 3 year old notebook
- Won't play DVD-R's.Despite what it says, I tried 5 different movies recorded on DVD-R's and none of them worked. They all work on all 4 DVD players I have in my house, but none of them work on the this thing.
- Brightness bars at the top and bottom of the screen are very apparent in low light conditions. The overall screen brightness is great, but it's overpowering at the top and bottom of the screen.Adjustmenst fix it somewhat, but it's impossible to get rid of completely.
- When the disc is spinning up at startup it sounds like a muffled lawn mower.Very loud.During play it's not noticeable though.

Final notes:
Screen size and sound is great. It's not a very portable device though due to it's weight and clunkiness. My biggest gripe and the reason I won't keep it is the picture quality. It's poor at best and not even close to what a DVD sourced picture should be.If you want a big screen and a device that will connect to anything (tons of I/O ports) at the cost of portability and picture quality this is for you.It however, is not for me. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great HDTV.
I purchased this TV last week. I am very impressed with it and have absolutely no complaints. It is the best deal out there right now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Killer HDTV for the cash.
I originally wanted the 36 inch version since it was on clearance at best buy. They were all sold out the very next morning. So after spending about an hour debating which TV I wanted (I needed one that day, I was moving into my apartment)I decided against the Sony WEGA 36 since I've had nothing but problems with Sony products and chose the this one and saved some cash (the sony and the one I wanted were about $1400). In all I like it. The TV takes some time to set up properly (my friend has a DVD that helps calibrate the image). It has a black screen that helps make the contrast better (black is now truly black and not just a dark grey) but makes the image a little dark unless set up right. But It now looks Awesome! I just got HD Digital cable and It looks sweet.

BTW the main reason I chose a tube over the many nice projections they had is becasue I play a LOT of video games. I know for a fact the projections burn-in easily and I was told by the salesman that plasmas and LCDs burn in even easier (That has to be true becasue he basically advised me to buy a cheaper TV instead, he wouldn't do that if it weren't true). I have an Xbox with component cables, PS2 with S video (hopefully soon component, I ran out of component hook-ups and now need a switcher), Progressive scan DVD player, and HD digital cable. All of them look great.

Few things, there are only 2 HD component hook-ups (Hello, Toshiba we bought an HDTV and we want EVRYTHING that can possibly plug-into it in HD now). The sound is okay but not great (I blew all my money on video and now have to use the TV speakers, I'm glad it's a small apartment). Oh yeah, It's heavier than crap!

5-0 out of 5 stars HDTV in decent size and price
This is my first HDTV. I have very good regular TVs (with a recently retired Proton that had a picture that was truly exceptional). I would love to spring for the 16:9 format, and the real impact and fun are at the 40 inch or larger realm. So this 32" version (32HF73) was the choice at $999 over Christmas. We have HDTV signal through cable (have not tried over the air HDTV). Only a few options for us at this point: networks, 2 HBOs, 2 Showtimes, and INHD channels. Since this is a 4:3 screen, movies are viewed through letterbox on the premium channels. Showtime is reduced slightly from the full screen (cable installer said that was Showtime).

The picture is really great, even when a network isn't broadcasting in HD (which is often the case for the regular networks). I am told that is changing. I have had digital cable for some time and Cinemax has a spectacular picture. Showtime has never been as sharp as Cinemax. So the analog to HDTV was never a shocker via digital as an intermediate. But this tv delivers all channels in a more pleasing form and appearance. There was a tremendous change to HDTV in both picture quality and apparently in sound as well. At this time, I use the tv speakers, but the Toshiba has some good processing to deliver increased audio dimensionalty.

High points of the conversion, besides picture quality: multiple component video inputs (so a dvd player can be added), easy changing from a normal 4:3 to a letterbox shape (networks often display better without distortion as a 4:3 rather than letterbox), easy connection to cable and set-up, and improvement in all ordinary signals (analog or digital). The last could just be the construction of the tube and masking qualities.

Low points: slowness in transitioning from the analog signal to an HDTV signal of the same program content (I was trying to do an A-B comparison but my memory fades during the wait), fundamentally 32" is too small when in the letterbox format (not that I have any better choice at home, but my expectations were raised), bad for me was the $100 price drop to $899 I just noticed (good for you), and, if I inadvertently turn the set off, I need several steps to get back to the proper HD feed input. It would be nice to set defaults to go there automatically (perhaps there is, but I haven't found it as yet).

My entire family really likes the picture. It falls short of the large screen blast (not Toshiba's fault). If you want HDTV now, it is a great $900 option. If you want a more overwhelming hit: get a larger screen. Cable HDTV costs extra (a new cable box and service). The 57 page manual is very good, but it doesn't elaborate all the time on choices and why you'd choose one setting over another. More technical information is available at the Toshiba website.

As a postscript: delivery from Amazon was problematic. It comes by freight and the freight company was in no hurry to deliver it. Not an Amazon fault. So it was in town for awhile before I could arrange delivery. Arggh when you can hardly wait for delivery.

"Therefore, the Toshiba 36HF73 36" Flat-Screen HD TV is not defective and we will not be able to offer further assistance or allow the TV to be returned for a refund. "

a) This is NOT the 36 inch, it is the 32.
b) ALL 4x3 tubes will have some bowtie effect on widescreen films, and before buying I looked at all in the class and the Toshiba 32 had the LEAST!
c) you are reviewing the 36 and placing the review in the 32. 3" in a tube set is at the very limits of consumer engineering for tubes. when looking at a widescreen film on a 36' tube, even the best in its class like the toshiba, you are the most likely to get a bowtie. read any information on the variety of choices, ie: largest tube (36") plus widescreen film = bowtie.

1-0 out of 5 stars Toshiba Flat screen HDTV
I purchased the 36 inch Toshiba HDTV. However, the picture set up is not good. The pictures bows from the center to the edges.A straight line towards the top or bottom of the screen noticebly bends to the corners. It becomes even more noticable in the HDTV 16x9 mode.I have had it serviced by one Toshiba authorized repair shop. The service technician told me there was nothing he could do after bringing it into their shop.I will try other repair shops, for $1400 the picture should be perfect. If I had purchased locally I would return the TV, but Amazon does not allow returns on large TVs.
The final word from Amazon customer service and Toshiba: I have spoken with the Toshiba technical support and they have informed me that this is a normal occurance and that the bow affect you are experiancing is a common in this type of TV and that it is within their specifications.

Therefore, the Toshiba 36HF73 36" Flat-Screen HD TV is not defective and we will not be able to offer further assistance or allow the TV to be returned for a refund. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great TV with a few minor issues
First of all of course the quality of the device; It's well built, has pretty much all the inputs you need and has a decent cable management system in the back (you'll need it). Image quality is good but not amazing when in standard resolution, HD quality however is very impressive (hooked up with an HDMI cable). DVD quality when played off a component DVD player is outstanding.

Audio quality of the TV is good, nice and loud with plenty of settings possible.

Switching between inputs leaves a little to be desired, it takes around 2-3 seconds for it to pick up on the input.

The bad:

I wanted to hang it on a wall, the specs do not mention the VESA mounts it has on the back, the manaual doesn't mention it either. Nor does the manual mention how to dismantle the stand, something you need to do in order to mount it.

The PC interface is fairly useless as it won't let you go above 1024*768, a real shame when you have a 1300*768 panel in front of you.

The TV doesn't come with ANY cables (not even an antenna coax cable) so expect to invest another $200 in decent cables.

Pricing is also an issue, after purchasing this TV the price dropped almost $300 and Amazon wouldn't issue a refund, so keep your eye on the price and/or reseller.

Despite it's few quirks it's certainly an appealing TV and one of the cheaper A name brands in this price class, we researched several non A name brands (like Syntax Olevia) but they don't com e close to the quality of this TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very nice television for any room in your house
I purchased this Toshiba because I wanted to upgrade my big-black-box of a 29 inch TV. I was going to wait until next Summer but circumstances prevailed and I am very happy with this set. The picture is visually as big as the 29 inch television. It took two men to lift the old TV and one hand to lift this TV. Not to mention it's only about four inches thick. A sixteen inch wide by twelve inch deep shelf holds it quite nicely.
The image is excellent for its size, and the color rendition and detail are excellent for the average size room. It's not a hard TV to get used to using (it's HDMI - on a HD Digital cable box) and puts out a magnificent picture. The HD cable feeds show detail and color that is excellent. Ben Hur was on regular cable today and the color rendition was better than any version I ever watched.
My DVD is on an "S" connector but I watched Akira Kurasawa's RAN (CHAOS) the other day and saw details that astounded me. The reds are vivid and the yellows blinding. On C-Span's Washington Journal you can see the colors of the capital building as the sun rises.
The sound is excellent right out of the TV itself. You can hear "echos" and "reverbs" when the source is good stereo. In about 6 months I will add amplifier and five channel sound speakers. I am very satisfied with this purchase. My Mother had to spend a month at my house after heart surgery and she loved watching the football games on this TV. She even joked about taking it home with her and she is NOT a TV person.

Things you should know:
1) the HDMI cable is 1/2 inch thick, sticks out the bottom, requires an adapter for most cable boxes, and obstructs the back panel that is supposed to hide the cables. Nothing will hide that cables.
2) the "surge protector/filter" is not cheap - I paid $199 for the one I use. But considering it's protecting a $1500 TV, it's worth it. My house has lousy electric and in four years surges have blown two protectors. Also HDTV needs a filter.
3) Buy good audio cables, I can hear how cheap my older audio cables are when I use the DVD and CD player - especially on orchestral and symphonic music. You don't hear the problems with broadway musicals or pop stuff on DVD and CD, but symphony orchestras and fine movie soundtracks need better cables. I have Digital Music on my cable, too. The all Opera channel is a delight to listen to now.
4) You need a digital satelite or digital cable HD feed - that requires special boxes and a service call.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who needs a plasma? When you have this LCD!
I am only going to say this thing is phenominal, you have to see it, to believe it!The HD picture will blow you away! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Works well ... Mostly
I've had this Toshiba DVD VCR combo for well over a year.Everything is still functioning very well.I've found it very easy to setup, use and program.

The VCR part is the weakest of the system and after a few months of use it developed a VERY annoying squeak that will drive a person insane while watching or recording any tape.It doesn't always do it though, like when you bring it in for repair (of course).Luckily I use the VCR half very infrequently.

I think I paid around $80 for it, so I guess it's not too bad for a less expensive combo unit.

4-0 out of 5 stars Older Version of DVD/VCR Combo Works Great
I have had the 1st generation of this product, the SD-V280A, for over 2 years now.It is used up to 5 times a day, 7 days a week, on both the VHS & DVD sides.

The only problem I have had with it is that the DVD door doesn't open fast enough (for me anyway!).I work at a small town store that sells these units and we rarely get a complaint. The store owner refuses to carry crappy merchandise and we encourage our customers to let us know if they have a problem with anything we sell.

If there were no bugs in the 1st generation, why would there be in the next?I have no problem with any kind of tape, pre-recorded or home-made (and I have HM tapes that are over 15 years old).

I have no problem recommending Toshiba products of any kind. They offer the best warranties and customer service in the business.

This combo unit seemed like a good buy - stylish, functional and reasonably priced. After six months of use - mostly for childrens videos, the playback quality deteriorated - even on brand new tapes, and after several cleanings. Now, a tape will not eject, and that malfunction has caused the entire unit to shut down. So, now I have a brand new tape stuck in the slot, my kids' favorite DVD is stuck in the other drive, and we have to take it in to retrieve our media. What a pain. Now I have read the reviews here, and I realize this product is lousy.Bad choice.

Hi,

I purchased the Toshiba SD-V290 DVD/VCR Combo for $136.94 on
8/27/03. It is now 1/4/04.

It broke this week. Less than four months of proper use.

When I put a VHS tape into the machine it is automatically ejected. Therefore I can not play VHS tapes at this time.

When playing a DVD there are pauses throughout playback.

Now I have to deal with calling support and probably paying to send this machine in for service. Then I believe I'll be going through the following process throughout the remainder of the warranty.

First I'll return the machine to Toshiba.
Then Toshiba will repair it.
Next, Toshiba will return it to me.
Then I'll use it.
At some point it will stop working again.
Finally, I'll send it back to Toshiba for repair.
Then Toshiba will repair it...

I can see this going go on for the life of the warranty.

This adds up to a lot of time and aggravation. Stay away from this product.

I believe this machine is poorly made. Poor parts, poor quality, and poor design.

My VHS loading mechanism broke after only 4 months of use. I'm now trying to negotiate a return. ... Read more
