3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Flip Case, problems though
I just got it and wasted no time slipping my 40gb ipod in for a try. It fits quite snugly and looks as you'd expect, there's a little opening near the bottom on either side so you can slip your fingers underneath and press the ipod back up and out. The flap has sleeves on the inside and a little pocket on the outside for earbuds. Overall, I like it. However, as I'm partial to the ipod dock and never having to touch cables, I find myself unsure whether I picked the right case. There's a hole to allow the dock connector cables to reach the port, but the case is too fat to slide into the dock, naking you choose between discarding the dock or using a different case. I'll try it out, but I think this configuration will eventually lead me to purchasing a belkin or speck case...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great case
I'm 100% satisfied with this case. I wanted something that would really protect my ipod yet at the same time be very accessible. This works perfectly. It's not too big and the front pouch is roomy enough for the earphones. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
One of the best features of the AirPort is its built - in modem and Network Address Translation (NAT) which allows multiple wireless computers to share a single dial in connection. If you're not up with cable or DSL yet, you can still get a wireless home or small business network going in no time, even if you're not a techie. When connected to cable or DSL, this little guy really shines, fully connects both Apples and PCs and is the coolest looking networking device you'll find. Apple just announced a new version with print server, but the current model AirPort has botth WAN and LAN connectors, so you if you're all wireless now, you can set up a 10BT print server as a peripheral and print off the WAN port. More expensive than some other solutions, but it does more too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wireless Networking Access Point
The Apple AirPort Base Station is extremely easy to use. The ABS software from Apple is designed with the same Apple Macintosh simplicity. This product includes security features that are easily understood, robust and fully standardized. The ABS is configurable via both Mac OSX and OS9 with support for computers running the Windows OS and third party PC cards. I can easily roam anywhere in the home and still maintain internet access.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic product but now outdate by the Airport Extreme
Check out B0000899ZA and B0000899ZC, the new Airport Extreme. Much faster and lower prices.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wait for new version
Think carefully before you buy this BaseStation. At the MacWorld expo Keynote on January 9th, Steve Jobs announced a new version of the Airport Base Station which supports 802.11g--boosting the speed from 11Mbps to 54Mbps. The new version also acts as a print server, and the units automatically bridge between each other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product--works very well
It's also easy to set up. Although I did have some problems
when I wanted it to handle my wired computer as well, I was able to negotiate those with the help of a friend, and without the use of any extra hardware like a router. Once set up the Airport™ worked great, and even switching from DSL to Cable was a snap. I haven't noticed any range problems, though admittedly I'm not asking for much, and the unit is transmitting through solid walls without any problems. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it...
I Really, REALLY wanted to love this mouse. I think Apple's USB optical pro mouse is perhaps the most perfect mouse I've ever used (including multi-button and scroll-wheel mice). I always thought that the only thing that would make it better was to make it wireless. So when Apple announced this bluetooth mouse I quickly purchased it.

Having owned it for about a month now, I can tell you flat out that I don't like it. It seems bigger than the optical mouse (I think this is because the pro mouse has a coating a clear plastic, because they look the same size next to each other, but it still "feels" bigger in my hand), heavier, and less responsive (Sometimes it doesn't move at an even speed with the hand - it kind of jerks).

In addition, it can take upwards of five seconds to de detected by the computer, and sometimes has an annoying habit of beining completely unresponsive after I wake up the computer from putting it to sleep. The only solution I've found is to turn off the mouse until it disconnects, and then turning it back on.

All in all I think I wasted my money on this mouse. I've been using it since I purchased it, but as of now it is going into the extra computer stuff drawer. I love Apple dearly, but this mouse isn't for me. Too bad, because I still haven't found anything useful for my bluetooth module. Perhaps I also wasted my money on the BT module as well?

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Mouse
Before reviewing this mouse, I made sure I had the latest Bluetooth and Wireless Mouse Firmware installed (March 2004). The CD in the box was already out of date. Always check with the Software Updater first. Many bugs are fixed by firmware. For those with problems, I might suggest you make sure your Firmware is up to date.

I installed the 1.5V Lithium batteries that came with it. A note about using AA rechargables. Most all AA rechargables are 1.25V, not 1.5V, so you are starting off with 17% less power if you use rechargables, which will reduce your range. The Energizer Lithium batteries that is comes with are probably the best AA batteries that you can buy. (about $5 for 2)

This mouse is about 20% heavier than the Apple Pro mice (white or clear). It weights slightly less than my 15G iPod. If you don't have to lift the mouse up and down, you can easily get used to the extra weight. I've been using Apple mice since 1984, and the early ones were like heavy bars of soap, so this is light in comparism. The click tension is also adjustable inside, which is now missing from the White Apple Pro USB Mouse.

This mouse appears larger to the eye, because it is solid white, not clear or white/clear. In fact, it's identical in shape and size as the Apple Pro Mouse.

Tracking seems identical to the Apple Pro Mouse. I would recommend that you use a solid colored mouse pad with any optical mouse. Sharp contrasting colors can make them skip (orange to black for example).

If you still think a corded mouse is the best option, the new White Apple Pro mouse has a 6" longer cord, which will reach the left side of an iBook better than the clear corded mouse, which is a bit too short. Using a wireless mouse does free up 1 USB port, if that matters to you.

It does take a few seconds to find it once you turn it on.

I give it 4 stars due to the additional weight and startup delay.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great partner for Powerbooks
This is my third attempt at a portable mouse for my PB. First was the Targus USB wireless minimouse which was tiny and worked great, but had no off switch (had to remove batts). Second came the full-sized Kensington USB wireless which had a neat compartment for the USB receiver and could be turned off, but wouldn't track on many surfaces and whose construction was very cheap (resulting in a very short lifespan). I had held off on this mouse for a while due to the price. I finally took the plunge a month ago and have no regrets! BT mouse is great! Extremely easy setup. My PB detects it usually in 2-3 seconds. It also tracks (nearly) as well as the Targus minimouse (which could handle ANY surface). Only a few hiccups on the shiny formica at B&N. The off switch is cleverly placed and protects the optics while loose in my laptop bag. Design is clean, classic Apple. One of my favorite things about this mouse is the fact that you can check on battery levels from System Preferences on your powerbook!!! The only negs I can think of are that I do miss right clicks and the wheel somewhat. Not nearly enough to go back to the others though... Strongly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars Catch This Little Mouse
Apple's Bluetooth Mouse is the first thing that I've bought that makes use of the Bluetooth capability of my computer. While I've heard that Bluetooth doesn't really speed up the method of sync-ing your PDA with your computer, it does make a nice extra for laptop users wanting to go back to using a mouse.

A warning though--make sure your firmware and software is up-to-date when you install and begin to use the mouse. Also, it helps to confirm that your bluetooth module is actually working. Funnily enough, mine was on the fritz and had to be repaired, but now it all works like a charm. My PowerBook easily adapts from going between trackpad and mouse i.e., I don't have to make any changes--I just start using one or the other.

I also have not had the problems that other users have had regarding waking from sleep. My mouse connects back up with the computer just fine. I just "double-click" the body to wake it up and can see from the bluetooth icon in the menu bar that it's re-connected. I have noticed that it works better on a mousepad or other surface, and suggest that you should do so, although others tell me it works fine anywhere. When I use it on the bare surface of my desk, I seem to keep picking up dirt, hair, dust, etc. It also works well from across the room, useful for presentations and the like.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
My experience with the Apple Wireless Mouse has not been good. It tracks poorly on most surfaces that I worked with, especially with fine motion. It seemed to fare best on textured surfaces such as thin cloth, or a mouse pad. For that reason, I'd strongly recommend that you use a mouse pad with this product.

I also have problems with the Mac not pairing with the mouse when I turn it off, then turn it back on. This is a common problem, and the recommended solution is to update to the latest Bluetooth firmware. However, I am already using the latest version of the firmware (I installed it before I installed the mouse, per the instructions), and I'm still having the problem with pairing after power on.

The mouse is beautiful and very comfortable to work with when it's paired and is being used on a surface that it likes. However, its aesthetics and ergonomics are not enough for me to continue using this device, and I can't recommend it to anyone else, either. I suggest visiting Macworld to read their reviews of other wireless mice to consider one of those instead. (I'm also told, btw, that the non-rechargeable batteries for this mouse don't last long, but I can't speak to that since I don't plan to keep this mouse long enough to find out about battery life.) ... 1-0 out of 5 stars iPod Remote sucks
I have owned my Ipod for 18 months. It is the fantastic, but I am now on my 3rd remote which is not so fantastic. No matter how careful I am about twisting the wires,it seems that after a period of time they loose connection with the Ipod. I also do not like the fact that Apple bundles the earphones with the remote. I am forced to buy new earphones just to get the remote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Investment For iPod
I bought this about 2 months after I bought my 10GB iPod. I thought it would be nice, but nothing big. I was wrong. It totaly changed my iPod experience. You don't know how much the ability to play/pause, skip/repeat songs, and adjust the volume without having to touch your iPod is really like until you try it. Of the three main accesories, the dock, wired remote, and carryeng case, this is the best one by far. If you own an iPod that doesn't already come with this than add this to your cart right away. You wont regret it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Could Be Better
A decent pair of headphones that at least matches (in Apple white) the iPod's color(less) scheme. However if looks are not your primary consideration in choosing headphones for your iPod, you should probably look elsewhere. The cord is way too long and the remote (though nifty) adds even more length, sound quality is only average for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars World's longest cord
I love my iPod, and I love the remote: it makes it very handy to adjust the volume or change the song without having to remove the iPod from my backpack. However, as others have mentioned, the clip can be difficult to attach onto anything bulky. And just try and clip it onto something without locking the buttons first--you never know what you'll be listening to afterwards!

What I dislike the most, however, is the length of the cord. It is nearly seven feet long, from the earphones to the iPod connector. What's up with that? Generally when you're wearing earphones, isn't the item attached to you, or in incredibly close proximity? Or is this just designed for really tall people? Regardless, the cord could definitely be shorter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remote Good; Earphones OK
Great remote, with easy to use controls. Clips fine to my sweats that I wear while running in cold weather. Earphones are OK ... about as good as earbud-style headphones get ... I just don't like earbuds at all. So my rating is based primarily on the remote. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Holster, ABsolutely lousy clip
I recently upgraded to a 3G iPod. When I saw this, I thought it would be the perfect solution for those people who actually USE their iPod, not bury it in a case. If you're worried about scratches all the time, I doubt you are enjoying the music much. This would allow for easy access and quick connection connections. It would also double as a quick and easy car holder.

I received the holster and slid the iPod in. Perfect fit to my slim 3G. Excellent so far. Nice fit and quality, great grip. Then I clipped the holder on the clip. A little loose on the fit I thought. Then I squeezed the clip. It shattered. No, it wasn't cold. Room temp. The sides just cracked and the clip broke into 4 pieces. First squeeze. Upon close examination, it is made from the ultra brittle plastic you see on the cheap import cell phone cases. The ones in Wal-Mart for pennies on the dollar?

Hard to believe Belkin would make such a nice holster and then supply the cheapest clip they could find. A total failure. By the way, I dug out an old Nokia clip I had that had been in use for 2+ years every day until I retired the phone. The clip is very loose with this Belkin as the knob on the case is smaller than that on most cell phone case.

Big drag. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Easy to Set Up
I found OS X Server 10.3 very easy to set up. Share points were easy to set up too. Print sharing was a bit confusing to set up, and only works with network PostScript printers. I had hoped to share my three inkjet printers too.

Definitely a great product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Panther server - not as good as OSX 10.1.4 server!
Wow, as a user of OSX 10.1.4 server unlimited, I was fairly happy, I trusted Apple to improve things in Panther OSX 10.3.3 Server - oh what a dissapointment! In 10.1.4, the Server Admin is easy to figure out, easy to work with - and they RUINED it in Panther! Now I have a messy obtuse interdependent server admin thing - I can't believe it, there is no obvious way to set up share points! I read through the documentation, and it just doesn't work, probably I need to tweek some scripts on the command line - but hey, if I wanted to do this, I'd get a Windows server. I find OSX 10.1.4 server and Windows 2000 Pro server do a much better job of serving ) OS9.22 clients. Yes, with Panther server, I can see it in on my OS9.22 machine in the same subnet - it shows right up, when I connect it says "negotiating" for 20 seconds. This is with 1 client connected to a
fast machine with tons of ram doing just file sharing! Oh I might figure this
thing (Panther server) out - but if Apple wants me to spend $2,000 to $6,000 getting their training to use this, I'll spend that money getting a Windows 2000 Pro server going - that's no walk in the park, but at least I can figure it out without spending hundreds of hours studying or paying consultants. Sheesh. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The iPod is not just for Macs anymore. Windows users can now join the iPod revolution, and enjoy several exceptional new iPod features as well. The 5 GB Windows model packs 1,000 songs and a 10-hour battery life into a stunning 6.5-ounce package, and Apple ups the ante with new MusicMatch software; aredesigned, touch-sensitive scroll wheel; red-hot FireWire digital file transfers; and an overhauled calendar/scheduler.

The iPod’s setup and interface are simple: just plug it into your PC and all your songs and playlists are automatically downloaded into iPod at blazing FireWire speed--typically 15 seconds or less. (FireWire is also known to PC users as i.Link and IEEE 1394.) Don’t forget that the player also doubles as a FireWire drive for applications and other files.

In addition to its 5 GB hard drive, iPod has a 32 MB memory cache. The cache is made of solid-state memory, meaning that it has no moving parts, so it's not affected by movement of the device. Skip protection on the iPod works by continually preloading up to 20 minutes of music into the cache.

The iPod has a large, high-quality LCD (liquid crystal display) for viewing up to six lines of text. And the LCD features an LED (light-emitting diode) backlight for clear visibility in low-light situations--indoors or outdoors. Pocket-size and just 6.5 ounces, it weighs appreciably less than the stack of CDs it can store music from.

Featuring MusicMatch software, the iPod can synchronize with newly added music files and playlists. Simply plug the iPod back into your PC and the changes are automatically updated in seconds. With MusicMatch, you can rip MP3s, create playlists, and burn custom CDs all from one simple interface. And thanks to a cool new partnership with audible.com, you can now download audiobooks to the iPod.

You can also download your calendar and schedule to the iPod from applications like Outlook and Palm Desktop. Plus, the iPod now has a built-in digital clock.

5-0 out of 5 stars Firewire makes all the difference.
This review is mostly in response to a review a few down, in regards to the Firewire ports for PCs. The last two PCs I have purchased have included Firewire ports, as did my last laptop. These were not super high-end machines, either, so it isn't like I had to buy a special machine just to get a firewire card already installed. The firewire connection allows you to make song transfers at a much higher speed than USB - I would *never* want to deal with USB transfer for the volume of songs one would typically keep on an iPod.

As for the iPod itself, I've wanted one for years and was waiting for Apple to offer a Windows version. Therefore, I was already aware of its superior performance compared to other mp3 players I have tried or purchased. It is very intuitive, and you don't need to read anything in order to use it (in fact, the manual that comes with it is quite short, and doesn't cover every topic). Its compact size is very convenient, and the headphones, while small, are of excellent quality.

I use MusicMatch Jukebox with the iPod, though I do not use the install that came with the device as I already had MusicMatch Jukebox Plus on my computer. I have not encountered some of the issues raised by previous reviewers; I do not know if this is the result of a different version provided by Apple or if I've simply been lucky.

My only complaint thus far is the polished steel surface of the back casing. I need to get a case so it doesn't end up scratched.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sure beats a clunky portable CD Player
I knew my boyfriend loved me when he got me one of these for my birthday... it sure beats using a mini radio or CD player when I go to the gym because even though it is only 5 gigs, i have over 1200 songs to choose from to help get me pumped up and stay energized during my workout. Of course, the newest models are even flossier, but 40 gigs... that blows my mind! It's like over kill! This model suits me quite well. As my boyfriend, an Apple user for years describes the iPod in one word: "FLOSS."

Apple iPod is a total waist of money. No way is it worth more than 200 dollars. If you want a good mp3 player you can get one for less than 200. The Arthos 10gb studio jukebox holds 2x the standard capacity of the ipod 5 and costs 1/2 as much. Also the firewire is a pain in the behind its just more money you have to throw away. Get another brand that is designed for windows. The only thing i liked about it before i replaced it was the LCD with 6 lines that was hot. But that doesnt add up. Dont buy it save your money for something better.

2-0 out of 5 stars think twice
I bought my ipod new 1 year and 1 month ago and it has simply stopped working. After days of trying everything in the knowledge base and being blown off by the 'applecare' staff I went to an authorized apple repair service who told me to just forget about it and buy a new one and save the repair expense. He also said to be sure to get a case for it and handle it very carefully because if you happen to drop it or even lay it down on a hard surface with too much gusto, kiss it goodbye. It was swell while it lasted but I can spend a lot less on a disposable product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Digital Video Editing Becomes My Passion
Storyboard to Final Cut Express

Final Cut Express Storyboard gives me a visual look at my movie. I control-click the Final Cut Express browser and choose large icon new. Then, I drag the clips into the order that I want them to be played. Next, I click on the projectÕs tab in the Browser and save it. Finally, I save the entire project.

Now to add my new storyboard to Final Cut Express sequences. Draw a marquee around the Storyboard clips. Next, I drag the clips from my Final Cut Express Browser to my Timeline and save the project. To protect them, I can lock them to make sure that they cannot be modified. I can lock and unlock them with the F4 key for video tracks and the F5 key for audio tracks.

Working with Final Cut Express

Creating titles and credits with Express is important. The key is the Video Generator. You can create synthesized clips that you superimpose over your existing video clips in the Final Cut Express Timeline.

For good-looking titles, you can use san serif fonts such as Arial, Futura, Gill Sans, Helvetica and Impact. I have found using bold, red or blue 30 point fonts effective for my titles.

You need to watch for the 20 percent factor. The 'Title Save Boundary' is 20 percent smaller than your television screen. To see the boundaries in Final Cut Express, go to View then to Show Title. Best to keep your titles within the safe zone.

Final Cut Express allows you to create rolling credits like the credits at the end of a movie. You can set the duration of your video clips plus set the in and out points for speed of the text and scrolls.

Pro Reaction

Final Cut Express is wonderful for making storyboards, titles, transitions and effects using software digital tools. Final Cut Express 2 supports up to 99 video and audio tracks. Express has various editing tools from Ripple editing, Razor Blade Tool, Pen Tool to Slip and Slide editing.

Express allows you to import iMovie projects. You can also import your Final Cut Express project to iDVD complete with special chapter marker. Express comes with an excellent hardcopy paper manual for learning how to use Final Cut Express 2. The manual is easy to follow without computer jargon.

Con Reaction

You have to work at learning how to use the Final Cut Express application. You have to spend the time to read and work with the Final Cut Express manual.

You cannot capture DV across time-code breaks. You cannot import your Final Cut Express project to iMovie or QuickTime with chapter markers and comments.

Final Remarks

Express is better than iMovie applications and gives you professional storyboard, title and video effects. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars If only it had a Belt Clip
Having just gotten an Ipod, I was looking for a better case than the one that comes with it from apple. The jam jacket is definetly cool, and allows for one to use the Ipod buttons, which the standard one does not. In addition, it also provides your Ipod with an almost scratch proof design. However the only problem is that it doesn't come with a belt clip that would make it easier to travel with. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

AppleWorks 6.2 combines six core capabilities--word processing, page layout, painting, spreadsheet, database, and presentation--in one easy application. By seamlessly integrating these capabilities with Apple's QuickTime digital technologies, AppleWorks 6.2 makes it easy to incorporate text, spreadsheets, digital photos, images, sounds, and movies into a single document.

Sharing documents is a breeze with AppleWorks 6.2. New translators for Microsoft Word and Excel files let you open and modify these files from within AppleWorks. You can even save AppleWorks documents in these formats to share with friends and colleagues.

If you're running AppleWorks 6.2 on Mac OS X you'll notice additional benefits. Preemptive multitasking means that you can work on AppleWorks projects while iTunes rips your CD collection in the background, and your system will still stay responsive. The advanced Quartz graphics system in Mac OS X lets you save your print previews of any AppleWorks document as a PDF file. Anyone with Adobe Acrobat Reader on any platform can view and print these PDF files.

An expanding library of templates--stored on the Internet--can be downloaded via AppleWorks 6.2 without launching a browser or decompressing files. Many of the templates are designed by affiliated organizations, such as the AppleWorks Users Group, and new templates are added regularly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good software, well, the best for me.
It is amazing software, really smart and pleasure to use. There are some things to improve to my taste, but overall it is definitely worth the money. In two hours of the actual using it appears by far more convenient that notorious MS Office. Extremely rich applications fulfilled by right tools. It is not overwhelmed with unneeded garbage but with smart and well organized things.
As one reviewer has mentioned it isn't Word. it is better. You don't have a filling that some one staying and breathing into your neck.
BTW, MS Word brought wrong habits and misleading conceptions, but if you know how to work , this one is much more productive tool.
All pieces well coordinated and inter working.
Very recommend. The interface a bit different and a few things to learn, but since you started to use it there is no way to back to MS Office. MS Office has more features in the same way as track has more horsepower, but will you drive it on vacation rather than coupe ?
One more thing to say, there is no any issues with MS Office compatibility. I converted many different documents and had no difficulties at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's not Word.
Let me make one thing clear: AppleWorks is not Microsoft Word. It is not Microsoft Office. And it is not a substitute for Word or Office, just as a Honda Civic isn't a substitute for a Hummer. It is, however, much easier to use, much less intrusive, and much less expensive. If you need Microsoft Office's features, by all means buy a copy. If you need to exchange files with Office users, it's probably a good idea to buy Office. But If you need to get work done quickly and easily, grab a copy of AppleWorks. All the modules (Word processor, graphics, spreadsheet, and presentation) are seamlessly integrated. Screen clutter is minimal (though the toolbars could be smaller.) Basic (and I stress basic) compatibility with Word and Excel files is included. But its strongest point is its ability to stay out of your way: it doesn't try to reformat your work to suit it's own ends, or make grammatical decisions for you, and the on-line help is helpful, not intrusive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use with many good features.
A great application. If you don't want to spend the extra money and get Office X then this is the application for you. It's very easy to use and has a lot of great features like templates and clip art plus, you can make your own templates and clip art. It has many features that Office X has except it doesn't have grammar check. That is the only draw back but half the time I never paid attention to it when using Office 2000 for windows so this isn't a big deal for me. I have converted many documents from Office 2000 to AppleWorks with no problems. I also use it for college and I have yet to feel the need to get Office X. Some other features it has are spell check, a word counter, and it can read back your documents to you!! Try it out. You won't be sorry! I use this application on an iBook running Mac OS X 10.2.4

5-0 out of 5 stars Great upgrade from office mac
I am a computer programmer and have been using MS Office since office 97 was released. I bought an Ibook 2 weeks ago in order to get away from the Wintel platform (and Linux too). The appleworks program is great it lets me create documents that MS Office can read and will also open MS documents. AppleWorks (as far as I can tell) has all the power of MS Office and is way easier to use. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks and can already create better documents faster using appleworks. I have not used the presentation part of AppleWorks yet but I assume its as good as the rest but, for presentations I reccommend keynote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth your money!
...Appleworks Office does everything I want an office program to do and it's stable and reliable. (I'm running system 9.2 on a G4). Another reviewer claims it isn't compatable with other programs, but fails to give any useful specifics, such as what programs and how it isn't compatable with them. I ignored that review and bought this software, and I'm glad I did. ... Read more
