5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Machine
I'd finally had it with my 4-year-old Canon Multifunction (C555). The fax worked fine but the printer was unreliable, torpid and, because the cartridges kept drying up, frightfully expensive. Despite my wife's warning (she's been having trouble with HP-OSX compatibility issues), I opted for this HP 4215.

When it arrived, I was immediately cheered by a box that was less than half the size of the Canon's. Upon opening it, I was further encouraged by a handy yet complete printed manual. (The Canon's was all online, and the printed-out materials seemed like a life-time of reading.) In 10 minutes I was ready to go--cartridges installed, program installed on my Powerbook, telephone line, USB cable, power cord all hooked up. The unit seemed too light and compact, the set-up too easy and automatic, but I went to a Word document, clicked and waited. Not for long, because the printer not only handled the document in record time but presented me with copy that was sharper than any I'd ever seen.

Next I went on the internet, found a richly textured, page-sized color photo and clicked "print." Same result. The machine speedily delivered a bright yet detailed and subtle color print that was an improvement on the original, even with the cheap copy paper I was using.

My plan was to keep my workhorse Epson for the bulk of my printing and use the HP for faxing, copying, and scanning (all of which it does both better and more efficiently than my old Canon). But the HP is simply too good to be anything less than a starting player. I can't remember ever being more impressed with a device, especially one this complicated, and happier about a computer or office-related purchase.

In spite of my singular success with this particular model, I've learned not to make blanket judgements about a brand or manufacturer based on one particular experience, especially in this field of competitive, rapidly changing technology. My wife just gave up on her HP printer and exchanged it for a Canon. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for home use, but consider ink costs as well
This is an excellent printer for those who don't print a lot. It will print documents at a very reasonable speed, and wonderful photos on 4x6 tabbed paper. The hardware has proven to be pretty reliable, as this new printer is based on HP's older Deskjet 3500 series.

The software has been improved greatly over last year's products. There is now a much lower chance of problems with installation. The extra software that's included isn't too large, so this printer is good for PC's close to the minimum requirements.

If you print more than 100 pages a month, or if you have a business, I'd recommend the Deskjet 6540 instead, as the ink costs half as much. Due to the higher ink cost, the 3745 is a good choice only if you don't print a lot. Otherwise, it is an excellent printer for home use. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars slower than a "gold" 12c
for the record, i have the 19, the 17BII, and an older "gold" 12c. i was thrilled to find hp finally upgraded the venerable 12c. about time they spruced up their cash cow and made it more powerful than the average digital watch, right? i was absolutely stunned to discover that the platinum 12c is actually SLOWER than the gold 12c on time value of money (TVM) calcs. trust me, i have been the subject of much derision at the office for my re-dubbed "silver" 12c. i imagine for most of wall street, getting algebraic notation and losing what sluggish performance it had is a BAD trade. certain TVM calcs that are instant on the 17BII (a calculator over a decade old) takes 30+ seconds on the new 12c. shame on hp for continuing to abuse its captive audience of finance professionals.

2-0 out of 5 stars A half hearted upgrade is BADDER than no upgrade at all
I have been using both the 12c Platinum (call it 12cP) and 12C. for both study and at work. I use the 12C gold more often than the 12cP.

My biggest disappointment with the 12cP is its relatively slow processing SPEED vis-a-vis the predecessor 12C and its competition.

The 12cP is notably slower than the 12C especially when performing Time Value of Money (TVM) calculations.

Running both HP12s side-by-side with the same data input, my 12cP has been consistently slower by 50% as compared to my 12C.

If possible, I would suggest that potential users and buyers try this data set on both the 12C and 12cP before buying. Clear register. Find [i] after input [PMT]=-1458;[FV]=0,[n]=84,[PV]=103600. The HP12C would take 20 seconds "running" while the HP12cP would take about 30 seconds to give the same answer [i]=0.4059!

This apparent lack of speed is difficult to accept for a supposedly latest financial calculator upgrade from any manufacturer! It is a bad joke, considering that my 12 years old HP10B could perform the same TVM calculation in just 2 seconds!

However, both HP12s are great value for money if the user look at the TOTAL solutions and free website support which is available to the user. In addition, there are lots of literature and solutions written by third party users over 20+ years run of the 12C. IMHO, this is the biggest face saving advantage it still has over the TI challenger for now.

The good people @ HP may like to know that 96% of my fellow students are using their competitor's Texas Instrument TI-BAIIplus! The BAII-plus is chosen for its 50% lower price and much faster processing speed.

After using the misnomer of a sucessor HP12cP, I personally feel that the 12C is still very much the industry standard. However, it would be better if HP would consider incorporating some useful improvements like a [BACKSPACE] key (<--)and incorporating a faster processor chip into the future HP12C-GOLD II(?), IMHO.

Also, seasoned 12C users of the RPN would not miss the ALG mode on the 12cP especially when it HP doesn't have "( )" included. The HP12c is an odd ball ALG calculator from this viewpoint. Dear HP, please let future HP12C GOLD upgrades remain as an exclusively RPN machine.

I would be very glad if somebody from HP could highlight to me on which are the 10+ more (130 total)improved functions on the 12cP as compared to the 12c (120 functions) to help me justify the additional price of 20% paid for the 12cP.

Although both my 12C/cP sets were "Made in China" by probably the same HP OEM to high HP quality. At a glance, the HP12C gold still has better cosmetic finishing than the 12cP. In addition, the keys on the 12C does feel very much better than those on the 12cP.

In a nutshell, the 12cP is more of "an alternative to 12C with ALG mode" than an upgrade or a sucessor of the 12C GOLD. When choosing between the 12C or 12cP, it is wiser to go for the 12C Gold!

Smart consumers, should go for GOLD, buy the 12C "gold standard" until HP could produce a real and wholehearted improvement of the 12C.

Thank you for reading my review on the HP12c PLATINUM.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointingly poor quality HP product
The older HP12C model was a much better quality product. My "old" HP 12C finally died after 22 years of use - one of the originals. I could not believe the poor quality of this calculator. I'll be surprised if it lasts a year. It feels like a piece of tin. Everything about it is shabby worksmanship. If I had been able to first try it in a store rather than buy it online I would never have bought it - and certgainly not for what I paid for it. I would not have bought it even if the price were $10. Within seconds of operating this "new" HP 12c I new it was junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars not fernominal
HP really dropped a bolock with this one. Well, lets see, my previous calculator had a receipt printer and I could sit in my office and churn out tax receipts all night long, with this 'calc' I twiddle my curly locks in wonder.

A. the keyboard is way too small. Its not easy to slouch back and fiddle your taxes in comfort. I like to calculate while relaxing.

B. the display panel is way too dark. Whilst pontificating dollars and cents I like to see my figures brightly lit.

C. there are not enough numerical digits to calculate my massive bank account.

I would only recommend this Platinum model to those not serious about burning the midnight oil. Those old chunky models are far superior and have paper. And why the orange and blue coloured buttons? This is not how a calculator should look.

Not recommended for Mikey... HP should stick to manufacturing brown sauce

1-0 out of 5 stars Say it ain't so, HP...
I bought my first HP 12C back in 85 as a finance student and I haven't been able to use a different calculator since. Over the years I've actually amassed a few more 12C's which I've kept at the office, home, etc.

When this new version came out I was really excited to try it out even if I had absolutely no reason to do so by virtue of my half a dozen or so 12C's. I had to try it, however and I ordered it last week. For some reason I didn't read any of the reviews (bad call) and boy did I pay for it!

The Platinum 12C is truly a piece of junk. More reminiscent of old Texas instrument calculators than of real 12Cs. Starting with the keys, you immediately get the sense of holding a much more cheaply made calculator. The keys jiggle and they actually make a cheap plastic noise when you press them (whereas the old 12C keys were solid and the way they pressed into the body of the computer made any HP calculator a pleasure to work with), the feet are uneven so when you press the keys the machine actually moves from side to side even on a flat surface. The display is a disaster - when you press lightly on it you get a ghost image that lasts for a few seconds.

I must admit that I like the new look - sharp, modern, up to date. But the much cheaper manufacturing of this calculator make the decision easy. Stick with the old 12C. You'll be sadly disappointed if you buy this calculator.

I'm truly amazed that HP would actually launch this piece of junk knowing that this calculator has probably enjoyed a more loyal following than any other product in their line. Why would they sacrifice years of loyalty to save a few pennies. I don't know - maybe Carly is reading these reviews and will let us all know. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great printer; not a very good scanner
The HP PSC 1350 is an excellent color inkjet printer. Text and images are clear and vibrant.

Unfortunately, the built-in flatbed scanner leaves much to be desired. Colors come out looking "washed out" or inaccurate. The images are blurry, and if you apply the built-in sharpening, the edges become jagged.

Nevertheless, the scanner is good enough for making quick black & white copies like you would with a Xerox machine. Just don't expect it to be good enough for photographs. Get a real scanner for that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great printer, but beware the ink prices!
I was thrilled to find a multifunctional printer for such a good price. It prints gorgeous photos even without the special photo ink, the scanner is the best I've used so far, the copier function is super easy to use, and the card reader was a nice surprise (I thought it was only for printing directly from a memory card - turns out you can use it to open files from the card on your computer). I haven't used the proof-sheet function yet so I can't comment on that.I only have two gripes with it: 1. the top of the scanner doesn't come off - this would make it a lot easier to scan/copy book pages or other things that aren't completely flat or are larger than the scanner itself; 2. The ink costs a small fortune! Even at a military exchange store, where prices are usually pretty low, it's $25 for black, $35 for color. I guess that's how they make up for the low price of the printer itself!Overall, though, it's such a great item that I had to give it 4 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck
This printer is a really good value. I am just heading off to college and I think that this printer can do everything a college student needs to do. It can do everything from print out my essays, to creating high nice looking photographs (the printer includes 15 sheets of photo paper). The all-in-one also make copies fast and with good clarity. This printer is with out a doubt the best bang for the buck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great printer!
I have no problems with this printer. The photo printing is excellent (more than what I expected). It is a great size for a multi-function printer (I thought it was going to be huge like a lot of the other multi-function printers but its not!). If you are looking for an inexpensive printer yet still has quality, then this is the one!

1-0 out of 5 stars HP blew it on this one
After our HP multi-function printer was damaged in a lightning storm we purchased this cheaper version. What a mistake! After finally getting the software to load, when the paper isn't jammed, it shakes and sputters until it finally spits out a damp feeling print. I guess you get what you pay for. We never had any trouble with the old model. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The ScanJet 4600 from HP is a see-through flatbed scanner that allows you to view documents and materials as they are being scanned. The see-through window lets you make precise scans, showing you the exact scanning area, while the included HP photo and imaging software helps you to get the most out of your scans. With larger items, simply scan multiple sections of the original and reassemble with the included software.

With 2,400 dpi optical resolution and 48-bit color, scans are accurate, crisp, and true-to-life, while the maximum document size of 8.5 by 11.7 inches lets you easily scan up to letter size documents and accepts a wide variety of media types including paper (plain, inkjet, photo), envelopes, labels, cards, banner paper, and more. The 4600 easily scans to multiple file formats, including BMP, TIFF, GIF, PDF, HTML, JPEG, FPX, TIFF compressed, PCX, RTF, TXT, and PNG, while the OCR (optical character recognition) software lets you scan documents to text.

Preview scan times are as little as 6 seconds, with 4-by-6-inch color photos taking as little as 27 seconds. Four front panel buttons (power save, scan, copy, launch HP Instant Share) provide convenient automation of commonly used functions, and HP's memories disc creator helps you easily create slide shows from your scans. 1-0 out of 5 stars Fooled Twice, Shame on Me!
I went through two scanners and about 10 hours before I realized it wasn't me, my computer or the "energy" of my office that was a problem. This scanner has a serious defect in its ability to scan anything that isn't very white or COMPLETELY flat against the glass. Vertical banding of dark and light stripes appeared in every scan I undertook with both 4600's.

I was given the runnaround by the HP tech(?) and am going to have to wait until HP or some other company revamps the technical issues of what is otherwise an elegant and smart design.

As a point of comparison I did identical scans with my Epson Stylus CX5400 all in one and when I could get a scan that wasn't plagued with the vertical banding I found the Epsons color and clarity superior at identical resolutions. (sarcasm here) Mind you, the Epson is a slightly more expensive ($50) printer copier scanner while the HP is only a scanner. This HP does not do what it is advertised to do.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unknown device for my computer
This scanner does'nt work on an ASUS P4P800 motherboard. It is not recognized by Windows XP SP1. On other systems it works.
It is smart but only for the look, not for working.
It seems to be the same problem with HP 4700. I'm disapointed. don't stay in confidence with the nice look and the HP brand. This is not a good HP product, read the reviews on commerce sites.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great design, BUT... also, questionable marketing
Granted, this is a great scanner and an inventive design. For me, however, the design screams to be used in a mobile fashion. After all, the unit is touted as a great scanner for large or unwieldy items (as opposed to a strictly desktop scanner, for instance). In my case, I was looking to use it for copying from books for use in research. If you have tried copying from a book on a flatbed scanner, even one with an expandable lid, you'll know the difficulty involved. With the 4600, one can effectively crop the book in realtime, eliminating the guesswork. BUT, imagine my surprise to learn that the scanner comes with a wall wart AC transformer! The addition of a power adapter significantly undercuts the 4600's utility as a mobile scanner (e.g.--books in a library). As an owner of a usb-powered Canon flatbed scanner, it didn't even occur to me that the 4600 would be different. Note that the marketing materials leave the impression that the 4600 is usb-powered. It touts a "combination usb/AC cable", a phrase that is certainly open to interpretation. In this case, it isn't even true: at some point, the "combination cable" _must_ split into a piece leading to the pc and a piece leading to the AC adapter. What is the advantage in this??? Also, the marketing materials cryptically list among the contents this line: AC adapter (where applicable). What does this even mean? A big thumbs down to HP for crippling a potentially great scanner, and attempting to hide its true identity. It's great as a desktop scanner, but there are loads of competitors that are cheaper in that class.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT when scanning 3D documents
As an avid scrapbooker and scrapbook business owner, scanning images that are "lumpy and bumpy" is next to impossible and believe me, I've tried every possible scanner out there. One of HP's ScanJet's did the trick for a while but it took up a majority of my desk. NOW I have a scanner that allows me to scan all my "lumpy and bumpy" objects with ease. Having a tough time finding something to scan something larger than 8x10? That's alright! This scanner comes with stitching software that gives PERFECT, SEAMLESS stitching. Awesome, awesome scanner. The best part is that I can stand it upright and store it beside my monitor so that I have more room for .... well .... more junk on my desk! :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect printer
My husband and I went to Aruba on our honeymoon with our new digital camera. After shopping around for approximately a month, we decided to buy the HP7760 mainly because of the 1.8" LCD screen - no computer necessary.

The guy at Best Buy told me I needed a USB cable, which is true, but it is not necessary unless you are printing from your computer. He tried to sell me a $30 one; I went to Walmart the next day and got one on clearance for $12.

The printing is absolutely wonderful! The colors and hues are so rich, it looks like you are there in person. The blue sky is as blue on the picture as it was in person! Same with all the other colors! I have not run into any problems with little stars or black lines appearing on my pictures, and since I installed it about two hours ago, I have printed more than 50 4x6 prints using the HP Premium Photo Plus glossy paper. The prints are instantly smudge-proof, but take longer time to dry if you want to put them in an album (especially the ones with the dark colors). I feel the quality is equal to that os lab processed prints. I took a picture of the sunset one day and the oranges and reds just jump off the picture at you.

I also haven't had any problems with any paper jams or "ink failed error" as some other reviewers have complained. The tray can only hold 20 4x6 cards at a time, so don't overload it and you'll be fine.

I also liked that it came with two ink cartridges, one color and one photo. After 50-something pictures, the cartridges are still going strong. I also bought a black cartridge and color cartridge (a combo pack at Best Buy for its sale price of $39.74, regularly $53) and a gray photo ink cartridge along with a second photo cartridge. In addition I bought the HP plus glossy and matte paper (haven't used the matte yet)

One word of advice (and it tells you this in the manual): When you place the paper in the 4x6 tray, make sure the side you're printing on is down and the perforated edge is toward you. I made the mistake of putting the paper in backward and had a couple prints come out with a white stripe on the end where the perforated edge should have been.

This printer is great for the price and ease of use! No complaints whatsoever!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great choice for a novice
I ordered this printer to go with my new digital camera and found it simple to install and get started. I was able to print a great photo immediately using the sample paper provided. It is terrific quality and rivals 35mm prints from the photo finisher. If you are looking for a reasonably priced photo printer with all the extras this is a good choice. Printing direct from camera cards with out turning on the computer is very handy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer - paid $129 at Costco
Best photo printer I ever have owned. Easy set-up. Quick printing, great colors, love the little LCD screen that shows the picture as it prints. Reads directly from compact flash card; no computer needed. Ink and paper are expensive, but I'm worth it.

Downside: paper path a little convoluted but no problems. Perfect companion for my Nikon CoolPix 5400 digital camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Printer
I just received the 7760 in the mail today.
I had to run to Walmart because I forgot to order the USB printer cable. After I hooked the printer up to the computer which took about 10 minutes ( includes the unpacking of the printer ). I took out all the pictures that I had and WOW the quality is unheard off. I mean the pictures are just so clear and pure quality. The printer pretty much started on it's own.
Just plug everything and put the disk that came with it and It does everything on it's own. Ohhh and then I tried photo paper.
Ohhh man it just got better from there.

THIS IS THE PRINTER TO GET.!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Printer!
Received the printer and had it up and running in less than 20 minutes with no problems. Makes beautiful prints that are as good as any professional printing I've had done. The ability to edit at the printer without having to download to the PC first is great! It's very easy to use and I've had no paper jam problems of any sort. Since I am not really technical and don't like to read pages and pages of instructions to use new equipment, I believe this speaks highly of this printers ease of use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love it
I was also looking at the psc 2355, but ruled that out after a salesperson told me that unless I'm plannin to print directly from a digital camera, I wouldn't need the LCD screen on the 2355(the main difference between the 2355 and 1610).

The software installation was easy, the print quality's nice (even on fast mode)...no complaints. Scanned image quality's good. Haven't tried printing photos yet, though, so can't give an opinion bout that. Extremely satisfied with the purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Working Pretty Well So Far
I just purchased the PSC 1610 today and so far I am pleased with it.However, I did have trouble installing it.It did not work the 1st time, so I tried it again and it worked.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, All-In-One Printer!!! NICE, Copies, Scans, & Prints!!
This litle all-in-one printer is really Great, and the cd software intstall was a breeze. The Scan, Copy, and Print features on this thing are really Nice! Its nice and compact and pretty much fits anywhere you put it, and it looks nice too. Most importantly the price was really nice at around $120. dollars, you really cant beat that considering this things quality of work and reliablity!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great... once installed
This printer produces quality photos (without bending the 4x6 paper unlike some other all-in-ones) and fast documents.I did have a problem getting it installed though.I spent 5 hours on the phone with HP support and they eventually gave up and sent me a new install CD.The new CD worked perfectly so I would advise anyone who has trouble installing to ask for the CD first rather than spend hours on the phone like I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing machine, good value for money
I made a wie decision selecting this machine for my business needs, quality is amazing ans speed is fantastic. Never had a single issue with this awsome machine. I recommend it to all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Carmera, poor offering
I purchased this Camera because of the good deal since it stated that the docking station is included with camera, still does.I got the camera, but not the docking station.I contacted Amazon about it and they were to resolve it by sending me another camera with the docking station.Too no avail, still no docking station. Now I had two cameras and no docking station. Finally got one camera sent back, but stillno docking station from Amazon. As far as the product, GREAT CAMERA forthe price!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This camera gets an A+
I received this camera as a Christmas present last year and I love it!It's very user-friendly, compact, and you get high quality pictures with it.I especially like the zoom feature. The built-in directions for the multitude of settings are handy--no need to lug the owner's manual around.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great compact digital camera with reasonable price...
I bought it as a sub digital camera. I have a fuji S7000.
-Low lighting condition: it is much better than any others
-Picture quality: Very good or equal to S7000 with 6M*** setting
-Easy of use: Yes, it is very easy and support 11 languages
-Size: small enough and solid construction
-Red eye: it works as it described. Although, it is "post-processing" and takes 1-3 seconds per picture.
-Battery life: good enough to take 150 pictures
-LCD: 1.8" with 120K pixels. Very clear than low resolution 2.0" or 2.5".

Not like:
Re-charging flash or saving picture take longer than S7000. I'm not sure it is because of compact camera. Depended on picture quality setting, it takes 2 - 5 seconds.
