The HP PhotoSmart 7960 features HP's exclusive photo resolution enhancement technology: HP PhotoREt Pro utilizes eight-ink printing, ultra small ink drops, true neutral grays, and photo blacks to print everything from professional color images to impressive black-and-white prints with accurate shadow detail. The eight colors come from the No. 59 gray photo cartridge with two shades of gray ink and a special photo black; from the No. 57 tri-color cartridge with cyan, magenta, and yellow; and from the No. 58 photo cartridge with photo cyan and photo magenta (the black in the No. 58 is not used for eight-color printing).

Designed for PC and Mac users alike, the 7960 also offers two USB ports and four memory card slots, so you can print images directly from your digital camera. And, the built-in 2.5-inch LCD lets you preview, edit, and even remove red-eye from images before you print. The printer offers versatile paper handling through it's standard 100-sheet paper tray and built-in 20-sheet 4-by-6-inch photo tray. It also supports an optional duplexing accessory. 5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use!
I'm very impressed by the straight forward design and navigation of the HP PhotoSmart 7960. Very easy to use and figure out, even if you're a technophobe like myself. Out of the box it was easy to set up with the step-by-step poster that they provided. Right away I was printing vacation photos straight from my compact flash (with the printer's default settings, without being hooked up to a computer) and I got really good printouts.

Pros: The LCD display is bigger than most digital cameras and is very clear, navagation is straight forward and easy to figure out, the color range is good (considering there's "8 colors"), very easy to use.

Cons: It comes with color cartridges that combine colors (CMY, Light-CMY, Grey or Black) so if you run out of one color you have to replace the whole thing. On glossy photo paper the overall color tends to be a bit darker. And at the moment it's a bit pricy compared with it's competition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should have one!
Combine this printer with the new HP Premium Plus photo paper and you would swear that your prints were from film! I recieved this printer as a gift this weekend and spent today in heaven playing with it. First off, it is the easiest printer I have ever dealt with! You don't even need to have a computer hooked up! The panel is intuitive; but, gives you a lot of control including print size, # of copies, zoom, and rotate. And everything you do to the photo is shown on the screen which adjusts to whatever angle is easiest for you to view. I was printing using the low-end black ink instead of the higher quality grayscale ink and I am still amazed at the quality of the prints! If you are looking for an amazing printer which is easy to operate, this is the one you want!

4-0 out of 5 stars I love my HP Photosmart 7960
I was looking for an 8 1/2 by 11 inch borderless printer for producing high quality double sided product brochures. I bought an Epson Stylus Photo R800. WRONG thing to buy. It does 8 1/2 by 11 and it does borderless printing, but NOT on 8 1/2 by 11 media. The largest borderless print media is 8 by 10, and no one makes that in two sided print surfaces. I returned the Epson and got the HP. What a relief, it does exactly what I want and is not finicky, lots of options for acceptable paper. I did have some trouble installing software however. I had to shut down and remove all other USB devices and then load the printer before it would install properly. Otherwise 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer
One thing a lot of people do not realize is that the reason why the ink cartridges are so expensive is b/c the manufacturers sell the printers usually at lower than cost and then they recoup their sales through the accessories such as paper and ink cartridges. Yes, it may seem to be unscrupulous, but HP and all the others are in the business of making money. As for the person who had problems printing envelopes, remove all the paper and use the paper guides and resize them to the envelope. I've had no trouble printing envelopes with my 7960.
One feature that people have also failed to mention is even though the memory card slots are there so you don't need the computer to print your photos, they also save you the trouble of attaching your camera to the computer since you can move your pictures from your memory card to your hard drive since the printer also acts as a removable drive.
everyone has been blown away when I tell them that I printed these pictures at home, and i find that the pictures that it prints are better than when I took my memory card to wal mart. Plus, it was quicker. It was no problem using my Sony digital camera with my HP printer.
One more thing, buy the printer at Sam's or Wal-Mart as it is only $187.

3-0 out of 5 stars tested 3 of them
I purchased a 7960 about a week ago. It did a great job right up to the point of ejecting the photo from the printer. The last inch of the photo was marked/scratched like a roller was stuck on the paper feed. I took it back and was given another printer, same thing. This time I went to another location, thinking maybe they got a bad batch of them but......same thing.
I traded up to a Canon I9900, best move i've made in a long time. The Canon is the smart purchase without a doubt. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not HP Product
I ordered as it came up as an HP product. Beware-it is a refilled cartridge, and Amazon will charge you for returning it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not original, and refilled too
I agree with the other reviewer -- this is NOT
an HP Inkjet cartridge. It doesn't look like the
picture, and it says it's a "refilled" unit.
If I wanted a refilled one, I could have gotten
it a lot cheaper elsewhere. The only good thing
I can say is it came with a prepaid envelope for
recycling the old cartridge (which they will
presumably refill and sell to somebody else!)

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Fooled
This is not an original HP Printer cartridge. It is a knockoff instead. Don't be fooled and think that you are getting an original HP manufactured cartridge. You are not. Order from HP's site and at least you will get the product you want. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Worthless for slides/negatives!
Despite some reviews, I took the chance that the slide and negative scanning abilities of the HP 3970 *might* be ok... they are NOT. Whatever the specs may say, you can only scan up to 2 negatives or 1 slide at a time. The lamp DOES have to warm up AGAIN after each scan session, even if your last one was just moments before. This makes just waiting for a preview excruciating! Next, the scan time to actually scan a negative at only 300 dpi is about 45-60 sec.

Long and short- this scanner was set up and tested and now is going back to the store... all within about 1 hour.

I didn't even bother trying the regular image scan functions, as all I'm really interested in right now is scanning negatives and slides. I'm sure the basic functions are good, as HP does have a decent rep for flatbed scans.

The software installed easily though in Windows XP Pro. It did seem a bit clunky, but I didn't bother playing with it enough to let it bother me.

4-0 out of 5 stars solid scanner for the price
I don't know what scrappy's problem was, but my scanned slides turned out to be gorgeous. My old Umax Astra always blocked up slides and negatives with excessive contrast, but the HP scans them with no problem. Prints are a cinch. I don't find the wait excessive at all-- maybe fifteen seconds, which is hardly interminable for a USB device.

The software is good, but not great. It certainly doesn't have the sophistication of the Adoble Elements that come with Epson scanners, but it's fine for basic image manipulation. It seems to reset to prints with each new scan, which is inconvenient but not insurmountable for slides and negatives.

For a hundred bucks, it's a great piece of hardware. And in my experience, HP equipment is MUCH more durable than Epson.

1-0 out of 5 stars HP SCANJET 3570 DISPOSABLE?
Like others have mentioned in their review, my HP 3570 worked fine for a while. The problem started when after moving, I attempted to scan with my scanjet. Nothing works! It is like there is no power to the scanner, though it's connected exactly the way it was before I moved. I decided to see what what happen if I installed it on another computer and again - NOTHING WORKS!!! I tried all the troubleshooting and driver installing, updating, etc.... NOTHING!I see now after reading other's reviews, I am not the only one who feels scammed, ripped-off, dissappointed, let down, etc. by this pathetic HP product! Shame on what I used to think of as a respectable name in computer equipment!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ugh! 3 Am Madness!
I am going to burn this thing! I have spent 5 hours messing with this stupid thing and nothing works! I have downloaded every driver update etc. HP just sucks...

2-0 out of 5 stars An HP Miss
I found the software cumbersome, and always used software that came with my Samsung. Scans turned out fine, but speed was slow.
After six months of use I started getting error messages. After corresponding with the e-mail tech support, I determined that it is a problem with the TMA lamp. Even though the TMA is in the lid, it involves a problem in the base that disables the entire scanner. I had just assembled some negatives and slides to use with the TMA, but never got to use it before the unit died.
The tech support system worked well to pinpoint the problem, but it was some time, a lot of emails, and a phone call before someone told me that it was out of warrantee. (I am sorry, I don't remember all the warrantee periods for everything I buy.) This went on after I had already given my date of purchase early in the process. You would think that HP would train its support staff to notice this earlier. ... Read more

This 2.0 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to 2000 MHz and 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) The BrightView feature provides a 20 percent brighter screen for better definition and 33 percent wider viewing angle for more accurate, off-center viewing when sharing files files. Video and graphics are powered by the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, which provides 128 MB of dedicated video memory. It also has HP Premium audio and internal stereo speakers.

4-0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with HP
Don't be mistaken... this is a "low end" printer. But if you're on a budget this is a great deal for less than $100. I am very satisfied with all printing applications. The only real negative aspect for me is it's kind of noisy when feeding the paper through, but is worth it for the speed and quality (and price). Be aware that this printer connects to your computer strictly through USB connection (no parallel). Expect to pay an additional $25-30 for the USB cable if you don't already have one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer for a Great Price!
As a poor college student needing a printer I was looking for quality for the best price possible. I knew that HP was a reputable brand as far as quality goes, so that's what swayed me in that area. For photo printing I was immensely impressed with the quality and detail. With the right resolution they look as though done by a professional photographer. The only downside is the consumption and price of the ink and the fact that you need to buy the connecting cable separate, but considering the price of the printer I'm not too miffed. It also doesn't require a lot of space. Score is 4 out of 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great basic printer for the money
I bought the HP 5150 as a replacement for a 7+-year old, broken HP ink jet, and I'm very happy with it. I use it to print a lot of envelopes and haven't had any problems with the alignment getting messed up like I did with my old printer. The guides adjust smoothly (unlike my old printer) and it prints quickly enough for my own personal use - faster than my old printer since the 5150 uses a USB cable (I saved $15 on that and bought it at Target). It was really simple to set up, too, and I only have a basic knowledge of computers.

I don't plan on using it to print photos, but I understand the cartridges switch out and you can print quality color photos. The cartridges were a bit tricky to snap in.

I am comfortable with HP quality, so I didn't consider any other brands. The price seemed reasonable.

Overall, I'm very happy with this printer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ours just died one day
We had our 5150 for three months and it conked out one day in the middle of a job. We called HP and were told, "Maybe it's the power cord. We'll send you a new one." That was wishful thinking, and we ended up having to send the printer back to HP in exchange for a brand-new one. It was a hassle, though, dealing with HP's computer system (ironic).

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Compact Printer
I recently bought my HP DeskJet 5150 as a replacement for an elderly HP inkjet printer that gave up the ghost. In general I have been very pleased with the 5150. It had flawless installation (I was ready to print ten minutes after I opened the box) and setup, and has excellent print characteristics in both B&W and color. It is very capable, starts up fast, has a quick throughput rate, and superior graphics resolution.

I have framed a couple of color prints printed on the 5150 (on HP photo paper), as they are equal to conventional photographic printing to the naked eye. My only caveat on the photo printing is that I can't vouch for the life of the prints, so far so good, but I know that some inkjet prints fade badly over time.

I am pretty hard on the 5150. Because I am in in the throes of researching and writing my Master's thesis right now, I am printing copious amounts, and running at least 500 pages a week through the 5150, and thus far have had no problems with it.

The one minor and completely unanticipated, annoyance I have with the 5150 is the shelf that holds the printed sheets is too short. HP provides a rickety pull out/fold over contraption to help hold printed work, but in my experience it is inconvenient at best (it almost doubles the frontal area of the printer), and is a real space hog on my desk.

Aside from that one small critique (which is the reason I gave it four instead of five stars) I think the HP 5150 is an excellent little printer at a bargain basement price. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for those with good vision
I've had this monitor for about two months, and I'm very happy with it. I do agree with a warning given to me by a friend, that this type of monitor (flat-panel LCD) leaves the print on the screen looking quite small. I've got good eyesight, and it doesn't bother me, but for those who have any problems reading smaller print, they'd best check it out in a store, carefully, before buying it. The images and print can be adjusted to be bigger, but at the cost of decreased resolution/clarity.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT MONITOR
I agree with previous review. The unit also can be easily adjusted in height, allowing leveling the monitor from touching the desk surface to raising it about 6 inches effortlessly. The visual quality is superb.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Bad to Say
I could not see any difference between this and most monitors. The feature that makes this monitor worth the extra $50-$75 than a generic monitor is the ease and range of the tilting screen. You can adjust the monitor to be perfect if you are standing up, sitting on the ground, or any other position you can think up (keep it clean). This feature comes in handy more than you can expect, and it looks really nice. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nearly Merely Adequate.
I bought this unit for a home office. It is adequate, but for anything beyond light home use, it is nearly worthless. On the positive side, it has a small footprint, is relatively quiet, and will do just about everything.Set-up was reasonably easy, and, while the software requires a good chunk of space on the hard drive, it was not hard to install.I recommend loading the software before you attach the printer, and waiting until it prompts you to do so.

Paper handling for the printer is not great.I tried to feed through some business card stock, and it got caught on the rollers. This was not heavy paper, but it still got caught.I was able to feed through 4 X 6 flash/index cards by feeding them in sideways. but it took an obnoxiously long time for it to print a small amount of text in landscape mode.If all you want to print is regular 20 lb 8-1/2 X 11" paper and envelopes, you will be happy.

The Scanner sheet feeder is marginal:I tried to feed through some construction paper, and it could not handle it.I tried some paper that was not perfectly flat, and it clogged the feeder because the scananer output tray is not large enough.I tried to use it to scan a large amount of documents, and the amount of time it took to simply load the paper was excessive.I had a several hundred pages of documents I needed to copy to my hard drive, and was willing to feed it through 10 pages at a time, and it took hours of additional time simply because the machine would not load the paper into the scanner quickly enough.I finally pulled out a Brother printer/copier I have and used it because it was much faster, even though the actual document scanning speed was about the same.Again, this is for small projects and home use.

Scanner:It does a good job for my uses, which involve mostly storing black and white documents to hard drive.

Color Copying:I tried copying a color photograph -- the result was dark and the colors were wrong. The output was streeky, despite the fact the print cartridges are almost new.

Black and white copying:Good. At least it does something right.

Print speed and quality:Print quality is what you expect from a low end printer.Adequate.Black is good, color is fair, and a little grainy.Speed is good for an inexpensive printer.I haven't timed it.

Conclusion:This unit is fine for the occasional home user who wants to print school work, letters, web pages, send and receive faxes, and do basic scanning.Except for the poor design of the scanner/fax sheet feeder, it does everything adequately, but nothing (except perhaps faxing) really well.If your budget is limited, and you are not going to get a lot of use from it, this is a good product; if not, buy something else.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not eligible for Prime or Super Saver Shipping
Just a warning to Prime members: You will have to pay shipping for this item. The reason why it's not eligible for Prime is beyond me, considering I've seen a printer that would cost 5 times as much to ship that is eligible (and both are direct from Amazon, not third-party sellers). If you have Prime, it's almost cheaper just to buy the 5510, because it is eligible as of March 28. ... For every application there is a calculator, and for financial functions, this is it. The HP19BII features four display lines with 23 characters each, plus6,500 bytes of memory. Offering over 450 business, statistical, andscientific functions, the calculator is also easily programmable for customequations and functions. Personal information management applications, currency and measurement unit conversions, and functions that help youtrack loan payments, interest rates, amortization, and internal rate orreturn make this calculator a must for all business applications.

Advanced users may find the calculator's functions a little dated. Itincludes the ACRS table for calculating depreciation applied to limitedpartnership assets, which was replaced by Modified ACRS (MACRS) in 1986.But many users will find that the extensive functions and programmabilitycompensate for this shortcoming. We especially appreciated the time anddata management functions like the alarm clock, calendar, appointments, anddate arithmetic, number lists, editing, sorting, and storing.

The HP19BII usesthree N batteries. It comes with a one-year warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best calculator I've ever used.
I really love my HP Business Consultant - even though I don't use half of the features that it offers. What I like the best: 1) shows you the results of your last three calculations - a real timesaver when you're doing comparisons; 2) remembers your last calculations even after you turn it off; 3) great rolodex feature that I use a lot; 4) a great travel alarm clock; 5) lot of functions available with a minimum of keystrokes; 6) easy to read display; 7) solid construction. The calculator is a bit bulky and is heavier than other calculators, but it helps me so much, it is worth it. I use it at work a lot instead of the calculators and adding machines provided, it is so much superior. Mine lasted for10 trouble-free years. Some of the keys are just starting to malfuntion, and I will replace it with the same model. Not too many electronic items that haven't been improved in 10 years - this is a very useful classic!

3-0 out of 5 stars OK calculator that sorely needs an update
I was surprised at how OLD this thing is - the manual is from the early eighties, and that's the kind of technology you get. For example, it has the ACRS table (depreciation for tax purposes) in it's memory, yet that was replaced years ago by Modified ACRS (or MACRS), so that calculator's function is obsolete and therefore useless. I did just as well, even better, with a "cheap" yet functional TI BA-35 Solar for things like quick TVM calculations. And if you're going to spend over $100 on a calculator, why not buy a decent graphing calculator? Things like histograms with this 19BII are a total joke compared to them. I really wish that HP would make a 19BIII model. They could give this thing some REAL statistical graphing capability, make a higher resolution graphing display, update the functions, give it an algebraic entry option, replace the ACRS with MACRS, etc. Until then, I'll be using my graphing calculator.

5-0 out of 5 stars Business and Studies
Well, if you are serious about having a calculator that does it all and you are willing to invest the time in learning how to use it, then the HP19B II is for you. The calculator was way ahead of its time when it was introduced in the 1990's, and still has plenty of intricacies that many do not possess today. First, there is the ability to switch to any foreing language, decimal notation and most importantly the programming feature. This feature allows you to construct your own formulas, regardless of the type of business you are currently using such formulas. In addition, graphics can help in seeing your computation, although the screen is a bit too small, yet the point is to graph your computation to give you an understanding and guidance. Second, you can make appointments, reminders and a contact lists in the memory, however you must be very compact with it. Thirdly is the feature that allows you to write text!! While studying, I found this very helpful in remembering definitions and terms. Finally, the HP19BII even has an intra signal to send data to a HP printer, but such printers are hard to find and the printed results vary in quality. Make no mistake, this calculator is for the serious and in depth professional whether in statistics, finance and math. If you are a beginner, then my suggestion is try the Texas Instrument TI BAII Plus. It has many of the same featureas of the HP19B II at a fraction of the price and can stand on its own for many finance, statistic and other mathematical functions, but lack the foreign currency conversion, text, appointment reminders and programming features. On the other hand, if you really want a calculator to last you for more than 10yrs and make it an everyday companion, then the HP19B II is it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Irreplaceable for finance professionals
Just have to log my support for this great calculator, similar to others I bought an HP 19B in the beginning of my college years (1984) along with all the related add'l manuals available at the time (marketing, banking, real estate,?) and have loved and used it ever since - despite religious use of Palm devices since their inception. Yes my battery cover broke also, but high tensile clear tape quickly remedied that. Unfortunately a mishap damaged the keypad functionality requiring a replacement. I'm estatic to be able to replace it so easily! May buy two to make sure there's always a backup.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good, but too big, too fragile
I do own one of these but for serious day-by-day calculation at work I prefer the 12C, it is much more easy to use and much more robust. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a GREAT product! Made me switch to PocketPC
I was nervous about switching over to PocketPC from palm, and that I would lose my information, programs, capabilities... But boy was I wrong! The transition was as easy as pie!

This unit blows away the competition with features.

Of course it has WiFi and Bluetooth, is fully multimedia compatible. What really blew me away was the amount of software that it came with. While Palm boasts a large software library, it is also expensive to buy. Palm comes with the bare minimums installed - to sync with outlook you have to purchase software, for example. This PDA acts exactly like your Windows Based PC. It really is foolproof.

The store that I tested this out in had wireless internet running through it. This device was FAST, and had no problems connecting to every website that I tested it out on.

I have not been able to find a more comfortable PDA device with more features, or a better value than this one! If you're in the market for a new PDA, I'd buy this if I were you! ... Read more

  • Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (2 x 256 MB, DDR SDRAM, 266 MHz) is a good start for power users. It has two memory slots in total, with a maximum memory expansion up to 2 GB (2 x 1024 MB).

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but a tad overpriced
I bought this printer to go with my HP Pavilion ze5200 laptop the summer before heading off to college. I knew that in college, I'd be mobile and on the run, so I was looking for a good quality printer that was small enough to fit in a dorm, but wouldn't crap out on me as I was printing a ten page paper half an hour before it was due.

It's been about nine months since I bought the 450Cbi, and I've had a really good experience. It's small enough to fit compactly on my little dorm-room desk, and every time someone walks into my room they say, "Oh! What a cute printer!" It's small and lightweight enough to throw in my backpack along with my laptop as I go to the library or student center to study, and the fact that it can be battery-powered is just awesome--I can be sitting outside in the middle of the quad, with no outlets in sight, tapping away happily on my laptop with my printer chugging out my papers beside me. The quality is fantastic, both photo and simple black-and-white, and one black ink cartridge lasted me eight months, which is amazing considering all the papers a college student has to type.

For the negative stuff: As other people have said, it has a problem with paper jamming. I've had several times where the paper has jammed, and I've had to work like the devil to un-jam it. However, nothing has broken, and all in all, it's held up beautifully considering how much I put it through, always lugging it from one side of the campus to the other. My infrared printing did suddenly stop working on me for some reason--my laptop will detect the beam and begin to print, but an error will pop up and refuse to print anything that's not a Notepad file. As well, I was also disappointed that though the printer is advertised as being wireless, it doesn't actually come with a Bluetooth card. No matter though, a parallel port cable is short, compact, and has worked perfectly fine for me. I do think that it is a little overpriced--I paid $250 for it--but for me, it's been a great a little printer and I don't regret my choise to buy it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Paper Jambs
I heavily use the HP 450CBi daily. Usually print 75 to 100 pages of Docs per day. Battery life is good. Print quality is good. Print speed is acceptable for a portable. Durability is questionable. I keep it clean and in its own protective case. I am on my THIRD HP450CBi printer in 9 months! Paper jambs, multiple sheets feeding, print carriage movement obstructed. I have tried many different types of paper based on quality, brand, thickness of paper, inkjet, multipurpose, etc. all with similar results. When number 3 gives out I think I go for a cheap disposable desk type model and plug into a 12V/110V power inverter in my vehicle. No Bluetooth as advertised. Forget IR. Just plug in a USB cable. Good Luck!

1-0 out of 5 stars 450 CBi misrepresented by manufacturer.
I purchased a 450 CBi so I could use the Bluetooth technolagy with my HP ipac 2215. The printer is clearly advertised as having Bluetooth connectivity. Upon receiving the printer the information included indicates that a HP Bluetooth printer card is required priced at $97.00. After spending 3 hours on line and on phone I find the item can't be bought. HP's last instructions were to search on google for it. I did only to find only one reseller listing the item. They were out of stock.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what is advertized
I spend a lot of time on the road and I use a lot of different types of printers. The HP is over priced for what you get. Keeping in mind you can buy a pretty nice printer for $300 today. It is much slower that advertized at 9 PPM black. It is more like 1 minute per page. That is with 30% text on a page. This is NOT good. The duplex printing requires one to manually flip the pages over. What is up with that? Print quality is good. Portability is OK, but not as nice as the Cannon i70. Ink cartridge size is good, but expensive. Infrared printing is glitchy. Quality and syle is OK. Unfortunately when a company tags a printer as a portable then the price goes up by a multiple of 200%. This is a mediocre printer that is worth about $50.00.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Desktop -- and Portable -- Printer!
The HP 450 cbi is an extremely versatile printer which I use as much in my office as I do on the road! It prints both text and digital photos every bit as sharp as my larger HP Photosmart 7550. It's extremely compact for traveling. And with its dual wireless capabilities (infrared and Bluetooth), I can output to it from my laptops - as well as from my PDA's.

The portable 450 uses HP's new six color ink system which, when printing digital photos, trades out the black cartridge for another three-color unit. The flip-up paper tray feeds well and holds up to forty-five pages. There's a special slot for 4" x 6" paper which makes printing snapshots as easy as making 8" x 10" enlargements. But the kicker for me was HP's claim of a 73 year photo life using HP's Premium Plus photo paper - which was verified in independent testing by PC World magazine in their November, 2002 issue! (Gee, what's not to like?)

The HP 450 has a built-in infrared port on the front (and is the only model in HP's new lineup so equipped). But contrary to what's written, connecting via Bluetooth requires purchasing an optional Bluetooth Compact Flash Card directly from the Anycom.com website, which is then installed via a handy slot in the back.

I use a USB cable to print from my desktop, and very reliable 3Com Bluetooth PC cards to output from my laptops.

I print via infrared from my Sony Clie using Docs To Go and IrPrint (available from iscomplete.org). And I output from my Palm 515 by using a Toshiba Bluetooth SD card - and Docs To Go and BtPrint (also available from iscomplete.org).

Even my daughter, not to be left out, prints directly to the HP 450 (via infrared) using her Palm OS-based Alphasmart Dana word processor, and she loves it!

I've carried the HP 450 with me on several business trips where it's performed flawlessly. I've taken the printer (with its portable battery) to meetings - where it was also a big hit. I've even used the HP 450 - in my garage -- to print labels and identify all of my stuff! The capabilities of this printer are truly amazing!

The HP 450, incidentally, is a much better portable printer than the HP 350 cbi or the Canon BJC-55 I owned previously. The HP 350 was much bulkier and could only accept a single ink jet cartridge (either a 3-color or a black & white unit) at one time. The Canon BJC-55 had extremely small ink tanks; and printing from my Palm (due to very weak print drivers) was rudimentary at best.

If you're in the market for a new printer, be sure and check out the new 450 cbi from HP. It is, without a doubt, one of the most versatile printers ever invented! ... Read more
