5-0 out of 5 stars Best Performing USB Web-Cam Ever Made
Intel Home PC Camera / Model #CS331 / Original Retail was $79.99
I have two of these. Intel definitely got it right when they designed this cam, and it's a shame they've discontinued it. This is by far the best USB driven camera I have ever seen. The CCD based (instead of the standard CMOS) optics on this camera are phenomenal, and the video rivals that of my Sony camcorder! Sensitivity & color balance are very good. This cam performs well above average in low light conditions. The video is clear, with no distortion, and does not granulize or pixelate. If you're looking for a top-end USB web cam, try to track one of these down. It will be well worth the effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Webcam I've ever had
This is the best webcam I've ever had, it has excellent image quality due to its very best optics and CCD sensor. It performed beautifully under all light conditions, and extremely well in low light condition. After I used this webcam, I just dumped my two Logitech webcams ( which have very poor image quality and are junks compared to this Intel webcam)

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice camera that works with Windows 2000/XP
Inevitably, all computer purchases are dictated by compatibility. This camera /does/ work with Windows 2000. A word from the wise: Do not use the software disc that comes with the camera unless you actually want to do the things that are advertised on the box.

Instead, go directly to the Intel website and download the camera drivers alone. After unpacking the driver file, run the hardware setup as administrator. Now, you can use whatever webcam/pc cam software you want.

Following the above, I had this camera working inside 5 minutes. The Intel drivers increase the camera resolution and refresh rate over those of the default Windows drivers.

The default color balance is a tiny bit off and the USB cord is a bit short. But, overall, it's a fine camera and well worth the money spent over cheaper cameras.

5-0 out of 5 stars Half price at Big Lots
The discontinued model of Intels hot pc video camera is flying off the shelves at discount retailers. This would make a great Christmas gift now that you can afford 2 for the price of 1. Get one for yourself and give one to someone you want to see online. ... Read more

164. Sony VAIO PCV-V210P Notebook (2.66 GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive)
by Sony Computer Peripherals

Asin: B0001FS9LG
Catlog: Personal Computer
Manufacturer: Sony Computer Peripherals
Sales Rank: 911
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Amazon.com Product Description

The Sony Vaio PVC-V210P offers the wireless solution for any room of the house--no messy wires, no large box to hide. The entire V210P takes up about the same space as a 15-inch monitor. It also includes a wireless mouse, keyboard and free wireless network card giving it a sleek, compact profile. Behind the 15-inch flat panel LCD, the PCV-V210G offers a wealth of computing and entertainment options--from a DVD-RW drive to Sony's Giga Pocket personal video recorder for archiving your favorite TV programs. It also features a wireless keyboard and mouse (to help keep your desk uncluttered), 80 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM, and Memory Stick slot.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive will definitely suffice, but it feels smallish in comparison to other desktop PCs--especially those, such as the V210P that are meant to drive a lot of multimedia work.
  • Processor: The 2.66 GHz Pentium 4 processor will be fast enough to handle editing of home and amateur digital video. It also has a 512 KB L2 cache and an FSB (front-side bus) speed of 533 MHz.
  • Memory: The installed 512 MB of RAM (PC-2700 DDR, 333 MHz) is sufficient for starting out, but you'll want to add more memory power to take full advantage of the PCV-V200G's multimedia capabilities (it's expandable to 1.0 GB).
  • CD/DVD Drive: The slim DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive offers 8x DVD disc movie playback and rather slow CD speeds (8x write, 4x rewrite, 24x read).
  • Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with a wireless (RF, or radio frequency) full-sized keyboard and mouse, which will help keep your desktop clean of cords.
Sound and Graphics
The PCV-V210G offers an SIS 651 integrated video/graphics card built into the motherboard and 32 MB of shared memory, which is a low-cost and effective solution for 2-D programs, but will not be strong enough for immersive 3-D PC games. The 15-inch flat panel screen has a native resolution of 1024 x 768 (XGA). The PCV-V200G features an integrated AC'97 (Audio Codec '97) that is also built into the computer's main board.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
You get a decent amount of computer and video connectivity options for the PCV-V200G's size, including::

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link; 4-pin) ports for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type II)
  • 1 VHF/UHF line in
  • 1 S-Video line in
  • 1 Composite Video line in
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
  • 1 Memory Stick card slot (compatible with Memory Stick Pro)
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.92), and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
The PCV-V200G comes with the Windows XP Professional operating system (which adds Microsoft's IIS Web server, back-up and recovery utilities, Remote Desktop, and other enhanced business features), and it features Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents). Record and watch your TV programs with the Personal Video Recorder powered by Giga Pocket Engine.

Other preloaded Sony software includes Click to DVD (DVD creation), PictureGear Studio (digital photo), DVgate Plus (digital video), SonicStage (digital music), and Vaio Media (Network file sharing). Other preloaded software includes InterVideo WinDVD, MoodLogic 2.5 Trial, Intuit Quicken 2004 New User Edition, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Apple QuickTime, RealNetworks RealOne Player, Norton Internet Security (90-day trial).

Dimensions and Weight
This amazingly small desktop PC measures 15 x 13 x 7 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 16.8 pounds.

What's in the Box
This package contains the Sony Vaio PCV-V210G all-in-one desktop PC, stereo speakers (built into the unit), Vaio wireless RF keyboard and mouse, and IR remote control. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not live up to Intel's name
We have been using AMI(LSI)'s Raid card for quite a while. This time I want to try something else, so Intel was on top of the list, and I was lucky to find it @Amazon.com. The card is relatively big, but one of the problems is that unlike AMI/LSI's solution, it won't share IRQ with some card, so I have to move around the card in order to let it work. Another disappointment is the performance is about 15% less than the AMi/LSi's solution, and that is you set the strip size to max(128k), other than this size the performance will degrade dramatically. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Intel Wireless Series Gamepad - not for xp professional
This item is a great idea, however it does not install on windows
xp professional, even though the intel faq says it does. The intel customer support says that there are major problmes with the mouse, keyboard and gamepad (they only list the minor problems on there compatibility faq)), they dont bother to tell you that they do not work at all on many peoples xp professional

However if you have 98,me,xp home, or 2000 professional(wow 2000 pro and not xp pro) then buy this product, it is an awesome gamepad and can function as a mouse that doesnt even need a surface to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well built and functional
This game pad is not only beautiful to look at and hold but is very functional as well. The mouse function is perfect for playing 3D video games such as American Mcgee's Alice and Clive Barkers Undying. It can be programmed to be both a mouse and a keyboard at the same time! The response rate is fantastic and the wireless freedom is outstanding! This pad is very durable and should last for years as long as you don't abuse it to badly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This item is super-cool and works perfectly for me. This is one of the few devices where I just inserted the CD, pushed a button, and it worked. The software that configures the gamepad to push various key combinations on your keyboard worked perfectly and was easy to understand and operate. The gamepads feel good, respond quickly, and are studded with lots of buttons. Only when playing MAME Joust did I have a problem, the gamepad trigger was not fast enough to flap the wings. I just changed to button A and everything worked fine. I went out and bought a four player race car game and am trying to buy two more controllers now!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Wireless Gamepad
The gamepad works well. The range on this baby is more then advertised (3 yards)...it worked even when I went downstairs to test its distance. Installation was a breeze and installation guides were helpful. I have WinXP Prof, drivers are available from intel's website, however no software utilities are available as of this review for XP. The feature to use the gamepad as a mouse is surprising and cool. Though I would rather use a mouse, but hey, if your on the coach with this thing, then it works really well...even right-clicking.
Gamepad design is great, though before buying it I thought it was weird and some reviews seems that point that out...perhaps maybe for some games after long hours, but what gamepad doesn't?
Only thing wrong is that the button to enable the mouse feature is in a bad spot that is sometimes pressed accidently during a game, which makes it turn into a mouse cursor..but nothing to concern yourself about.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reliable, works as advertised
I purchased the gamepad, base station, & keyboard several months ago. I had to call Tech Support because my D-pad kept falling off. They really didn't have an answer, so I returned it & got another one. It did the same thing, so I carefully super-glued it on. After that, it has worked great. I use my TV as a monitor & sit on my couch & surf the internet with it. So the range is great & it does not need line of sight. It seems to work well as a gamepad, although I only have one and haven't experimented with using more at once. One drawback is that you must work with your mouse properties to get it to move quickly enough as a mouse. Another is that the Windows XP upgrade is not very good. The mouse LCD picture isn't supported, along with many other features. So if you're already using XP, I would definitely think twice about buying this until they release a full driver package. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A 5-star product in its class
A friend of mine from Minnesota bought it for me at a local shop and I got it here in Romania in mid December. I think the new Intel Pocket Digital PC Camera launched November 2001 at $... on Intel Direct Shopping site is a real wonder in its category. 16 Mb internal memory, plus expansion slot for Smart Media cards up to 128 Mb, buit-in flash and microphone (and speaker to hear click sounds during operation), two aperture lens (f2.8/f8.0), automatic or manual white balance control, USB connection to PC, fantastic software. The camera comes with a stand to fit on the computer, strap and traveling case. While connected to PC via USB to download pictures or be used as webcam it does not need battery power. Four AAA normal or alkaline batteries are required only when camera is used away from your PC as a digital still camera. Since there is no LCD screen on the back of the camera (in my view an extravagance anyway) to focus or preview shots, the battery life is amazing. I just replaced the original 4 (regular) batteries after emptying twice the 16Mb memory full of snapshots, most of them with flash! Nifty resolution and storage capabilities for a camera in this category: 256 pics at 640x480, or 96 pics at 1024x768, or 14 pics at 1280x960 (or combinations thereof). It can also accomodate 1 minute stored video with audio or 1 hour voice recording! Excellent webcam too. Vivid colors and working great with Yahoo Messenger, Camarades.com (have not yet tried the supplied software for Inetcam.com services). The included Intel Create and Share software is very imaginative and entertaining. The image editor program is called MGI PhotoSuite 4 Special Edition, but have had no patience to learn how to use it. I'm being faithful to my Corel Photo-Paint 10 that does the job just fine :). Although the camera appears to be in stock at major US online shops (....), it's a pitty the info provided on those sites is incomplete or incorrect and there's not even a product picture shown. Also, not selling in Europe yet, so I'm probably the first lucky European owning this pocket-sized rarity :). All in all a great buy, wholeheartedly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Inexpensive Camera
I came across it from reading its review on a computer magazine and everything it said is true. Works fine with me. Very portable. When my wife gave birth to our second baby (my first boy!), I took my baby's first pictures (from the hospital) with it and immediately send it to my sister on the other side of the country via email. She was excited and very happy to see them. The pics came out very fine. Before, I made a video postcard for her son's birthday with the software that came with it and he never stops playing it again and again. My work (in the middle east) keeps me away from my family (in the Philippines) most of the time and communicating with them via video e-mails and video conferencing using this pc camera helps ease a little bit of the pain of not being there with them always. It is compact enough to fit almost anywhere in my bag/pocket. The software that came with it is okey, with games, photo editing etc. The model I got doesn't have a flash so I would have given it 5 stars if it had one. For me its The Family PC Camera For The Novice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Camera I have found for the money
This camera for the monies spent is 10 times what I had anticipated but should have known better. Seeing what Intel has done with the Pentium Four, I would have expected none the less. I only wish that Intel gets back into manufacturing cameras again. It is a fantastic Web Camera with sound, it is a great recorder of sound and WOW to the concept of digital video making. It's the best investment I have made next to purchasing my home and my automobile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome camera, even for the photographic enthousiast
I just went to hawaii about 3 weeks ago and took my handy Intel camera with me. I set the camera on medium (so i could take a LOT of pictures) and it took the most beautiful pictures imaginable. Armed with 2 - 128mb smart media cards and the on board, i could take around 1700 pictures if i ever so desired.
I ended up taking about 250 picutres and about 25 videos.
the picture quality is EXCELENT and the videos are very smooth AND HAVE SOUND.

very highly recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars great for non-techies
This is the perfect item for the average, non-technical person who just wants to take pictures to keep or send by computer to friends. It's simple to install and use and there's tons of great stuff in the program to play around with. I recommend it highly for people who don't want to get swamped with technicalities or complicated computer manipulation. It's simple, it takes great pictures and it's inexpensive. Great for beginners and amateurs like me. ... Read more
