5-0 out of 5 stars very portable, sturdy & reliable
I'm not sure why some other folks have had trouble with this printer - I have never had a single glitch & I have put it to the test. I travel a TON & take my laptop & printer with me almost every trip - the HP 450ci has withstood the wear & tear of over 50,000 of travel (air, car & train) in the past 9 months & aside from a few scratches here & there you'd never know it wasn't fresh out of the box.

I also have used my HP 450ci to print almost anything you can think of - text docs on regular mid-weight paper ("new" or recycled, both work fine), 8.5x11 photo paper, 4x6 photo paper, transparencies, labels, even t-shirt iron-on transfer sheets - not a single problem. Hope I didn't just jinx myself! :)

Seriously though - if you're looking for a portable printer that's rugged enough to really travel, but also looks slick sitting on your desk or pulling it out of your bag in a client's office , the HP 450ci is THE way to go. IMHO. And no, I don't work for HP! I actually am not a big fan & have NOT liked some of their other products, but the 450ci hasn't let me down.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent portable or desktop printer
If you need a portable printer this is a great choice. It is well-built & solid without being too heavy to take with you. At the same time, it's versatile enough to be your everyday desktop printer too. I have tried a number of the "portable" printers that are available and so far the HP450ci looks the best, is built the best, and has lasted the longest even with a lot of use. In summary: It's well-built, light weight and the print quality for text & pictures is good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pretty but very disappointing
My wife gave me a HP Deskjet 450CI for XMAS 2002 as I was travelling a lot and it seemed a decent solid printer that was compact if a little expensive. I was looking for a basic printer that could do most basic printing in a compact form. I was not looking for awesome performance in any aspect.

The good: Printer prints decently and quickly. Printer is pleasing in shape and compact.

The bad: Printer does not handle cardstock (fairly common deficiency here) or full size photo paper.

The ugly: Printer suffers NUMEROUS jams (to the point of being unuseable) - paper is pulled in approx an inch, jams, then software comms problems begin. I have seen the problem discussed in a number of online forums. This apparently is a design problem relating to the pinch plate which may have been corrected in printers made after July 2003. If you are in warranty, HP will fix the problem but if you are like me and the problem occurs after the warranty expires fixing this design defect is on you.

Bottom line: Before buying: 1. Make the seller take the printer out of the box so you can check the production date (only located on the serial tag on the bottom of the printer) (how many vendors will do this?). 2. Verify that "no kidding" this design defect has been corrected.

Postscript: I have been highly satisfied with every HP printer I have had until this one. This printer has not yet gone through a single complete ink cartridge and has never run card stock or photo paper. I do not want to deal with repairs so today I scavenged the ink from this one - threw away the 450CI - and installed the ink in my new HP PSC1350. The jury is out on the PSC1350 for now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this printer...
This printer works great, excellent HP quality with complete mobility. The resolution of the printouts, B/W and color are fabulous. We haven't tried photo paper yet, but so far it is versatile in printing with different media.

1-0 out of 5 stars Road Warriors Listen Up!
This printer has possibilities! It has completed 6 airplane trips checked as luggage and worked the first time every time. Although those trips only represent 2 months, its a better record than the BJC-85 or the HP-350 I owned (see my Amazon reviews). Dazzling print speed for a portable, really nice print quality and regular size ink catridges.
Thanks HP!

LONG TERM UPDATE:

Well, as it turns out, my short term enthusiam and 5 star rating for this printer has been dashed by on going problems -- primarily paper jams. I now own two of these printers, one I use while the other is being repaired under warranty (I bought an extended warranty). Losing confidence in HP, my G85xi all-in-one just quit also (won't feed paper). Repair costs as much as a new all-in-one. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

With the HP 17BII financial calculator, you can perform more than 250 business and statistical functions from wherever you happen to be. You can calculate loan payments, amortization, interest rates and conversion, internal rate of return, net present value, bond price and yield, depreciation, and percentages, to name only a few.

The bottom line on the two-line display shows the menu labels for the five major menus in the calculator: Financial, Business Percentages, Statistics, Time Manager, and Equation Solver. The menu keys allow you to shift between functions. The top line shows the numbers or letters you enter and the resulting calculation. Each menu has subfunctions and built-in variables for greater complexity. A beeper sounds when you press the wrong key, when an error occurs, or when you are late for an appointment.

The HP 17BII has 8,000 total bytes in RAM (6,750 bytes plus 1,250 for your built-in variables). You can monitor the available memory (both in bytes and percentages) by pressing shift-MEM. The calculator retains current functions until you press "clear data." If you accidentally shut the machine off, just turn it back on and your calculation will reappear. After 10 minutes of nonuse the calculator turns itself off, but your most recent information will still be there.

The HP financial calculator interfaces with an HP infrared printer (sold separately), allowing you to print tables, lists, and payment schedules whether you are--in a meeting or on an airplane.

A protective cover is included to keep your calculator dust-free. Batteries are already loaded, and the calculator is backed by a limited one-year warranty. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great calculator for those in financial services industries
One of the best features of this calculator is that the calculations (i.e. present value/future value calculations and basic mortgage payment calculations)are menu driven using a series of buttons at the top of the calculator. You simply input the data per the associated input button. In addition, this calculator is a lot easier to use than the 12B which is the standard in the leasing industry. The 17B version allows you to input your data in a straight forward fashion rather than the "reverse" data input method of the 12C. HP also did a good job with the instructional booklet you receive with the calculator. The booklet gives you numerous sample problems and does a good job of highlighting the capabilities of the calculator in an easy to understand format without all the technical jargon. I wouldn't be without this calculator.

5-0 out of 5 stars The financial calculator to get
If you are a business student or finance professional, the HP 17BII is the financial calculator to purchase. It provides the necessary functionality (e.g. solves the appropriate kinds of time value of money & IRR problems, provides memory, etc.), but what I really find useful is "intuitive" data entry in solving these problems relative to the HP 12C (which I also own). For Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) candidates, it is also the "top-of-the-line" HP model since the more advanced versions are programmable, which is disallowed by the AIMR during testing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Analyst's little helper
Pros

- 17BII has a bunch of built-in financial and statistical functions invaluable for CFA candidates. You can be sure that if you have 17BII on your desk in the CFA test-room you can save enough time on your quant and asset valuation questions to concentrate more on qualitative things.

- It is quick and easy to use if you know the basics of finance.

- Its operations manual is a corporate finace text-book in itself.

Cons

- Honestly, I did not like the display. Even in sharp contrast mode you see nothing unless you look directly at the calculator at the very narrow visual angle. When I prepared for my Level I CFA exam, it took me more time to SEE the result (moving my 17BII on the table) than to calculate it.

- Unfortunately, it is impossible to buy 17BII here in Moscow. Can HP sales force tell me why? I got mine as a business gift from colleague in NY five years ago. Maybe he does not even know how he has facilitated my life as financial analyst.

My recommendation: Strong Buy for advanced financial users. And don't waste your money if you are at high school or a fan of higher math course at MIT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the Russian CFA guy!!
Using this calculater on the CFA exam can get you kicked out! Just thought I'd set the record straight.

From the AIMR website:

Two models of business calculator are authorized for use on the CFA examinations: the Texas Instruments BA II Plus (including the BA II Plus Professional) and the Hewlett Packard 12C (including the HP 12C Platinum when available). AIMR strictly enforces all policies with regard to calculator usage during the Chartered Financial Analyst examinations and candidates are required to abide by AIMR's policies.

Your calculator will be inspected prior to the start of the examination. Your calculator must then remain on your desk in full view and proctors will continue to inspect calculators throughout the administration of the examination. Proctors are instructed to confiscate all unauthorized calculators. Failure by the proctors to detect an unauthorized calculator prior to the start of the examination, or your use of an unauthorized calculator at any time during the exam, does not imply that the calculator is an approved model or that your scores will ultimately be reported. Use of an unauthorized calculator is considered a violation of AIMR rules, regulation and policies, and may result in a professional conduct investigation with the possibility of sanctions up to and including suspension from participation in the CFA Program and voiding of your examination results.

5-0 out of 5 stars laapesq
This is the best calculator that I have ever used.

I acquired it immediately prior to purchasing a car. The loan calculation function allowed me to compare and contrast the different loan packages, interest rates, length of loan and other variables.

Want to know how much your 401 (k) will be worth when you are 59½ years old? You can select a financial calculation that will let you insert the present value, monthly contribution and years to retirement. You can then determine the dollar value assuming a return of 5%, 6%, 7% and so on.

The inherent power and financial tools available in this calculator will pay for itself in a very short while. The soft cover paperback manual easily and throughly explanes all financial functions and can be read in less then 3 hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars The iPAQ 1945 - A Pocket PC Approaching Perfection
The iPAQ 1945, also sold as the iPAQ 1940, is the first in a line of planned successors to the iPAQ 1910. HP has addressed many of the concerns that 1910 users had, namely that the 1910 was too slow and lacked hardware expansion options. The 1945 is powered by a new 266MHz processor from Samsung which rivals, and sometimes surpasses, the usable speed of many XScale chips from Intel. Other features of the iPAQ 1945 include 64MB of RAM (56MB of which are user accessible), a crisp, bright transflective color screen, onboard Bluetooth wireless, and a Secure Digital slot which can use SD flash memory cards and SDIO peripherals such as 802.11b WLAN cards.

Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC replaced Pocket PC 2002 as the most current Pocket PC OS in June 2003 and comes installed on the 1945. While the version of Windows Mobile 2003 pre-installed on the iPAQ lacks a few minor applications (such as Microsoft Reader), each can be downloaded for free. Because HP left the choice to the end-user, the iPAQ File Store - unused space on the ROM - has over 13MB free for software, files, etc.

As I mentioned before, the Samsung processor keeps the 1945 moving along very well. Having recently used an iPAQ 5450 (400Mhz PXA250 XScale), a Toshiba e755 (400MHz PXA255 XScale) and a Toshiba e355 (300MHz PXA255 XScale), I can say that, from a casual use point-of-view, the iPAQ 1945 surpasses the speed of the iPAQ 5450 and Toshiba e355 and feels basically on level with the Toshiba e755. One of the touted benefits of the Samsung processor is long battery life, and while I didn't get the eight hours that HP suggested I might, I got almost seven hours use out of the 1945 with the backlight on its lowest setting before I had to recharge; a very good result.

There is only one real drawback to the iPAQ 1945, as I see it, and it's relatively minor and completely fixable: the 1945 ships with only a USB Sync cable, not a cradle. While some might actually prefer this, I miss not having a cradle to rest the iPAQ in while it's not in use. The good news here is that there is a cradle available (the same cradle that works with the iPAQ 1910), and you can purchase if you want it.

All-in-all, the iPAQ 1945 is an amazing addition to the Pocket PC family. If you like small, light PDAs with oomph, the 1945 might be right up your alley.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, with a couple of limitations
This is definitly a great handheld. I got it to replace my two-year old 3000 series Compaq PDA. It's about half the size, with a much better screen, and expandability. Every application I've tried works well (no problems with PocketPC 2003). I'm waiting on my bluetooth adapter to see how well it's going to work. The battery life is good, and can be improved by turning off the bluetooth and infrared connections.

My only minor complaints are 1) Non-standard headphone jack, 2) no slip case included, and 3) SD card plug . The jack has a ring of plastic around it, about two millimeters thick. I cannot figure out why HP's engineers couldn't figure out how to put in a real headphone jack, but if you're looking to use this as a multimedia device (it works well) the non-standard jack is a pain. Sound quality is really good through headphones, though. My other complaint is that they didn't include even the most basic protective cover with it. Since the nice case I've ordered won't be here for a couple of weeks, I had to run down to my local gargantuan electronics store and get a big clunky universal slip case to protect it for now, a waste of about ten bucks. Oh well.

My final very tiny complaint is that rather than a hinged door, they supply a plastic filler piece for the SD card slot. I've already managed to lose mine, so now if I don't have the card in there's a gaping hole in the top of the PDA.

Overall, these minor complaints don't touch the fact that this device costs less, weighs a lot less, and can run rings around my circa- 2001 ipaq. Definitly worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not perfect
HP has a lot going with this PDA. The first thing anyone will probably notice is how small this Pocket PC is. It's actually slightly thicker than the Toshiba e330 series, but it's so much smaller otherwise that you'd never notice.

When using this PDA, you'll notice that the transflective screen is amazing; it's bright, uniform, and very clear; it's significantly better than any other manufacturer's Pocket PC screens.

Performance gets a boost, too. The combination of the Samsung 266 MHz processor and Windows Mobile 2003 means that there are no longer any performance issues, as there were with Pocket PC 2002. Videos play smoothly, games run well, and there is no longer any sluggishness evident.

The now SDIO-compliant slot and the built-in Bluetooth give decent expandability options. I wish HP had gone with built-in WiFi instead, but Bluetooth is better than nothing. Plus, you can always add an SD WiFi card later, if you want; that wasn't an option with older iPaqs.

Considering how small the battery is, the 1945 lasts a pretty long time. I haven't done any formal tests, but 2.5-3 hours of reading and playing games, with the screen set to full brightness, brought the battery down to 30%. A huge bonus is the built-in backup battery and the fact that the main battery is also replaceable.

Despite all the good stuff, the 1945 isn't without a few problems. The biggest one, which HP doesn't make immediately clear, is that they bundle Windows Mobile 2003 Professional edition, as opposed to the Premium edition. This means the loss of some features and programs, most notably Microsoft Reader. Fortunately, you can download and install this for free.

Another pretty annoying problem, for anyone who wants to use headphones, is that the 1945 has a 2.5 mm jack, as opposed to the standard 3.5. They do include an adapter, but who wants to carry that around?

The rest is really just nitpicking. HP includes 13 MB of non-volatile storage, which is really cool, but of the 64 MB of RAM that they advertise, only 56 is really available. I also didn't like the fact that they didn't include either a cradle or a protective cover. Lastly, the plastice battery cover feels a bit flimsy. It mounts on just fine, but when you take it off it feels really cheap and fragile.

1-0 out of 5 stars $300 paper weight!
My husband bought this for me for my birthday in January. I am a pharmacy student and it comes in so handy when I work in a pharmacy. I call it my other brain. The other day while I was working at a pharmacy, it fell from the counter to the floor. It hit a rubber matted floor. The LCM (I think that is what it is called)is now broke. It looks as though liquid is oozing from the top corner. Ever store I have taken it to says it is cheaper to replace the whole unit. I called HP they said it will be 199.99 to replace plus shipping a labor. What a joke. I will buying a new one, just not an HP. If one little fall from a counter can cause such damage, it is not worth it. I am very disappointed in this product. Buyer Beware!

4-0 out of 5 stars Satisfied But Confused
Beautiful little machine. In the first two weeks of use, have had one synchronization glitch -- couldn't delete a web page because of a supposed file-sharing error -- but it was resolved with a soft reset. Biggest concern so far: I have dozens of questions (just one example: what is "automatic gain control"?) that aren't answered either in user's manual or on-board Help files. Guess I'll have to get them answered through a Google search. You'll need to buy a case and one thought on this: Think twice before you buy (or better yet, try it out somewhere) the Rhinoskin aluminum case. It's VERY difficult to use the PDA while it is in this case with the front open. There's simply no way to comfortably and securely get a grip on the case because the front doesn't fold back. I sent mine back and bought Rhinoskin's leather case for IPAQ 1900 Series PDAs(00366; it's hard to find on Amazon because there are few links from the IPAQ PDA pages). This case -- because the front folds back behind the PDA -- solved the problem. I originally bought the aluminum case because my PDA goes in a bike bag, but this case seems to provide protection that is almost as good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use!
I'm very impressed by the straight forward design and navigation of the HP PhotoSmart 7960. Very easy to use and figure out, even if you're a technophobe like myself. Out of the box it was easy to set up with the step-by-step poster that they provided. Right away I was printing vacation photos straight from my compact flash (with the printer's default settings, without being hooked up to a computer) and I got really good printouts.

Pros: The LCD display is bigger than most digital cameras and is very clear, navagation is straight forward and easy to figure out, the color range is good (considering there's "8 colors"), very easy to use.

Cons: It comes with color cartridges that combine colors (CMY, Light-CMY, Grey or Black) so if you run out of one color you have to replace the whole thing. On glossy photo paper the overall color tends to be a bit darker. And at the moment it's a bit pricy compared with it's competition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should have one!
Combine this printer with the new HP Premium Plus photo paper and you would swear that your prints were from film! I recieved this printer as a gift this weekend and spent today in heaven playing with it. First off, it is the easiest printer I have ever dealt with! You don't even need to have a computer hooked up! The panel is intuitive; but, gives you a lot of control including print size, # of copies, zoom, and rotate. And everything you do to the photo is shown on the screen which adjusts to whatever angle is easiest for you to view. I was printing using the low-end black ink instead of the higher quality grayscale ink and I am still amazed at the quality of the prints! If you are looking for an amazing printer which is easy to operate, this is the one you want!

4-0 out of 5 stars I love my HP Photosmart 7960
I was looking for an 8 1/2 by 11 inch borderless printer for producing high quality double sided product brochures. I bought an Epson Stylus Photo R800. WRONG thing to buy. It does 8 1/2 by 11 and it does borderless printing, but NOT on 8 1/2 by 11 media. The largest borderless print media is 8 by 10, and no one makes that in two sided print surfaces. I returned the Epson and got the HP. What a relief, it does exactly what I want and is not finicky, lots of options for acceptable paper. I did have some trouble installing software however. I had to shut down and remove all other USB devices and then load the printer before it would install properly. Otherwise 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer
One thing a lot of people do not realize is that the reason why the ink cartridges are so expensive is b/c the manufacturers sell the printers usually at lower than cost and then they recoup their sales through the accessories such as paper and ink cartridges. Yes, it may seem to be unscrupulous, but HP and all the others are in the business of making money. As for the person who had problems printing envelopes, remove all the paper and use the paper guides and resize them to the envelope. I've had no trouble printing envelopes with my 7960.
One feature that people have also failed to mention is even though the memory card slots are there so you don't need the computer to print your photos, they also save you the trouble of attaching your camera to the computer since you can move your pictures from your memory card to your hard drive since the printer also acts as a removable drive.
everyone has been blown away when I tell them that I printed these pictures at home, and i find that the pictures that it prints are better than when I took my memory card to wal mart. Plus, it was quicker. It was no problem using my Sony digital camera with my HP printer.
One more thing, buy the printer at Sam's or Wal-Mart as it is only $187.

3-0 out of 5 stars tested 3 of them
I purchased a 7960 about a week ago. It did a great job right up to the point of ejecting the photo from the printer. The last inch of the photo was marked/scratched like a roller was stuck on the paper feed. I took it back and was given another printer, same thing. This time I went to another location, thinking maybe they got a bad batch of them but......same thing.
I traded up to a Canon I9900, best move i've made in a long time. The Canon is the smart purchase without a doubt. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The HP PhotoSmart 945, featuring an 8x optical zoom lens and a 7x digital zoom (for 56x total), is one of the most affordable "big zoom, big megapixel" digital cameras on the market. Geared for the advanced amateur, it features a 5.3-megapixel resolution, advanced photo features, and a wide variety of manual controls. But it also has such automatic features as an on-camera wizard for getting the best shot, direct printing, and HP's Instant Share.

Optics and Resolution
With its 5.3-megapixel resolution, you can snap bright, detailed images with the PhotoSmart 945 that can be enlarged to poster size. It features two resolution options: 2608 x 1952 (5 MP) and 1296 x 976 (1 MP). The Fuji Photo lens has an 8x optical zoom that's coupled with a 7x digital zoom for a 56x total zoom. It has a focal range of 7.6-61mm (35 mm equivalent: 37-300mm).

Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the PhotoSmart 945 can also record up to 60-second movie clips with sound at a 288 x 208 pixel resolution. The QuickTime Motion JPEG format offers a limited resolution, which is great for capturing a short movie that can be e-mailed to friends and family, but is no replacement for a true camcorder.

More Features
The 945 also includes HP's new, exclusive Adaptive Lighting technology, which balances brightness relationships between bright and dark areas in a photo, preserving gentle contrasts but compressing harsh contrasts. With clear and easy to use "low", "high" and "off" settings, the camera automatically balances shots by lightening specific areas within a photograph.

HP's on-camera help allows you to access quick and clear guidance on how to take the best picture with the HP PhotoSmart 945 digital camera's wide ranging functions. In addition, its enhanced manual controls allow concurrent photos to be taken through "burst" mode without having to wait for the camera to prepare before each shot. Other available creative controls include aperture, ISO, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, color and sharpness

With HP's Instant Share feature, you can customize your camera with e-mail aliases and distribution lists of your family and friends. For each picture, you can designate up to 14 destinations, including e-mail addresses, compatible printers, and more.

Other features include:

  • Large 2-inch LCD monitor
  • Built-in flash with auto, on, off, night, and red-eye reduction modes
  • Print photos directly to select HP PhotoSmart printers and all-in-one devices via include USB cable
Optional Camera Dock
The PhotoSmart 945 is also compatible with the HP PhotoSmart 8881digital camera dock, which enables you to easily transfer images to your PC or charge a set of included rechargeable batteries. Cutting down on desktop clutter, this convenient remote-controlled device enables you to easily transfer image files to your PC, print photos, or even view images on TV--all in one easy step

Storage and Transfer
The PhotoSmart 945 is compatible with Secure Digital (SD) MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards; a 32 MB SD card is included. When shooting in Best mode (2608 x 1952), you can store 11 images on the included memory card. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Power and Size
The camera is powered by 4 AA batteries (alkalines included, rechargeables recommended). It measures 4.84 by 3.35 by 3.35 inches and weighs 13.7 ounces excluding the batteries or 15.7 ounces when loaded with batteries.

This package includes the HP PhotoSmart 945 digital camera, 32 MB SD memory card, neck strap, 4 AA alkaline batteries, USB cable for camera to PC, USB cable for camera to printer, and dock insert for use with optional HP PhotoSmart 8881 Camera Dock. 4-0 out of 5 stars Your moneys worth!
I just recently got my hp photosmart 945, i love the design and the way it fits in your hand. I have to say i read the negative reviews before i got it, but since i never had a problem with my HP hardware, I decided to go for it anyways. It was the right thing to do, because I haven't got many of the problems that people comment about on this site; my camera seems to work just fine, and although the rechargeable batteries dont work quite as well as the ones specifically designed for digital cameras, their performance is still acceptable.

Now, I have to say it is true that, given a specific set of values, it takes the camera a while to take the picture, as the screen goes blank it is hard not to move and ruin the shot. However, it is also true that the same thing happens with the slow speeds on a Reflex, and its just a matter of practice until you get the precision you need in order not to ruin a shot, and if it never happens, you can always use a tripod! haha

What can I say, if you are either a starter, or a professional amateur, stay away from this camera and go for a Sony or Canon instead, which have similar features and near same quality. If you are like me, a student who requires the best PC-friendly camera, stay with HP. I'm sure you will love it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag - Works Than Locks - Not to used with Win2000
My new HP 945 arrived two weeks ago as a replacement for a HP 315. New camera worked nice but battery charging seemed to go on and on even after just couple of pictures.

Started me to wonder. Pictures were fine and the learning curve was easy. AS I needed a bigger card I went ahead and purchased a 256 MG SD card after checking with HP Support.

Now the strange problems start -- the camera would lock up and only unlock if batteries were removed. Pictures taken seem OK but sometimes it would say it couldn't read the 256 Mg Secure Digital Card. Then once it was rebooted it would record pictures and upload to the computer. Finally today it locked up again so I called and they want it returned for repair - as usual good service they even pay the courier.

The HP rep however told me that loading pictures from a 256 MG card to a Win 2000 Operating System may not work and that I might need to get a card reader.

Whoa this is getting really off base - camera goes down within two weeks and a 256 MG card may not work with my Win 2000.

This is starting to get me a little upset. No mention by anyone in reviews or on the HP Support site about Win 2000 issues with this camera and 256 MG card. I have their email saying the camera will handle 256 MG; but how am I'm going to get some assurance about it always working with Win 2000.

There are some issues here and I want to get at the answers.

3-0 out of 5 stars ok for regualr everyday shots
I have probloms with getting indoor shots w/o the flash on. If I keep the flash off, all shots come out blury. And in museums or public places having the flash on isnt allowed, causing me too lose some good pictures. However, when I take outdoor pictures or use the flash indoors, they come out great; if I can hold the camera straight enough to get the shot. I love using the black and white, sepia features. great focous, has three second delay to shoot. Overall; good for childrens b-day parties or regular use where you wont get upset losing a few shots. In that case theres plenty of cheaper camera that have the same quality. The professionals are recomendin kodaic products in the digitals. I bought mine at another retailer w/ only a thirty day return policy and couldnt return it to upgrade.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sadly, mine was defective.
I purchased the 945 as an upgrade to the 620 that I already owned. I figured it would make sense to utilize the same docking station and SD media given my limited budget. The camera arrived, included photo-lithium batteries, docking station adapter, 32MB SD card and various cables and straps. It fired right up and the first thing that struck me was the amount of time it took all the "auto" features to settle down (on the order of 2-3 seconds). I took a photo of some stuff on my desk (oddly enough, an HP printer). The picture quality looked excellent, even on the large lcd display.
That was the last picture for this camera. The "live picture" mode stopped working, and all that was visible on the lcd was slowly flashing screens of dim color. The menus and such continued to act normally. I read the manual, which called out a diagnostic mode whereby the I/O, displays, ram, SD card, etc can be tested. Sure enough, the "live display" portion of the test failed. I've lost some faith in HP.
I returned the camera to Amazon whose return system couldn't be much easier. I will invest in a brand other than HP. I'm looking at Kodak DX series....

3-0 out of 5 stars MP and Battery Life issues
Having already purchased a HP 3.2 MP camera and being completely happy with it, the 945 looked like a perfect upgrade.
For the most part I liked the camera however when my concern for the battery life became an issue (I couldn't shoot 25 Best pictures and I did try different batteries)I began to look at other settings which would require less drain on the batteries. It was at this point that I realized there are no options. At 5MP your files are huge 2.25 to 3MB which is fine sometimes when you want large files but if you don't you then have to go down to 1MP. That's quite a drop, who shoots in 1MP if they don't have to anymore. As for other options, you can change the compression but then your picture quality suffers because the original resolution stays the same. As far as I am concerned this is too big of an issue to ignore. I returned the HP945 yesterday and am very disappointed that HP would put out a camera that would be so limiting in this respect. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars High Satisfaction, Low Price
If you want a great all-in-one printer at the best possible price this is the choice!!! Did you know the PSC 2350 is the Internet Retailer version of the PSC 2355 which is sold in stores? Buy the 2350 and save yourself some money. You will love this product. It has a LCD screen so you can see your photos before you print. The photo quality is awesome. Scanning and copying are easy and convenient.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazon sales policies
Well, I was going buy this or the HP 450. Going to buy it for sure and have it drop shipped to my daughter who is off to college, needs a printer, and it's her birthday.

But then Amazon stops me in my tracks. They will take $30 off the price IF I buy it with their visa.

Uhhh, no. I do not want to be strong armed into getting another visa. My best one pays me a 1% rebate on everything I buy with it, EVERYTHING, and, knowing that my 830 credit score can be harmed if I sign up and tear up every POS visa offer I get, LIKE THIS ONE. Not only do I decline the card, but F* Amazon if they think I'm gonna get in line with the Rubes they think will do this.

So I'm off to buy aprinter elsewhere, and am really angry with Amazon still. F* em. I've assigned this a prelimanary 4 stars, but I really don't know what this printer will do, I just know that HP is an awesome mfg of printers. Hopefully someone at Amazon will read this, look up my account and realize that this is a thinly veiled attempt to have Amazon look like a car dealer in my eyes and stop this practice. I'm too busy to play that game.

Bill Coe

2-0 out of 5 stars Basic Features Work, Watch Out For Advanced
I was really hoping this printer would work well, but unfortunately, I cannot recommend this printer. When you follow the directions to have the scanner detect multiple pictures and save as multiple files it doesn't work. I've followed all the directions very carefully and the settings are set correctly. I first tried phone support and it was obvious that the person I talked with didn't understand the feature. I then tried online chat and at first the person didn't understand the feature. I asked for a supervisor and the supervisor told me the feature is not available. I then cut and paste the documentation from hp about the printer and also the directions on how to set it up. Then the supervisor told me that unfortunately the documentation is wrong!! The feature I need is to have the scanner detect multiple pictures and have them saved as multiple files. HP's documentation:
"To scan multiple pictures
1 Double-click the HP Director icon. Or, on the taskbar, click Start, point to Programs or All Programs, point to HP, and then click HP Director.
2 When the HP Director opens, make sure that your HP scanning device is selected in the Select Device list.
3 On the Settings menu, point to Scan Settings & Preferences, and then click Button Settings. The Button Settings dialog box, which has a tab for each configurable button, opens.
4 Click the tab that corresponds to the button you want to set for multiple picture scanning.
5 Ensure that What are you scanning? is set to Picture.
6 Click Modify Scan Picture Settings. The Scan Picture Settings dialog box opens.
7 Click the Preferences tab.
8 Click the scan multiple pictures check box.

Note The exact wording of this check box is specific to the HP scanning device that you are using.

9 Click OK to save the scan picture settings for that button.
10 Click OK to save the button settings.

Now when you scan a picture by using that particular button, the scanner can detect multiple images and save them as separate files.
"

The last paragraph makes it pretty clear that this is a supported feature of the scanner.

More info: I found a slight work around by having the output source be HP Image Zone instead of "Save as file". However, this also falls apart when you choose to "continue scanning". When you do that, it then proceeds to only save one of the scanned pictures and ignores the other ones put on the glass!

If you know fixes, please post! If you are HP reading this, please help. I couldn't get help over the phone or from hp chat support.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not HP Product
I ordered as it came up as an HP product. Beware-it is a refilled cartridge, and Amazon will charge you for returning it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not original, and refilled too
I agree with the other reviewer -- this is NOT
an HP Inkjet cartridge. It doesn't look like the
picture, and it says it's a "refilled" unit.
If I wanted a refilled one, I could have gotten
it a lot cheaper elsewhere. The only good thing
I can say is it came with a prepaid envelope for
recycling the old cartridge (which they will
presumably refill and sell to somebody else!)

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Fooled
This is not an original HP Printer cartridge. It is a knockoff instead. Don't be fooled and think that you are getting an original HP manufactured cartridge. You are not. Order from HP's site and at least you will get the product you want. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Worthless for slides/negatives!
Despite some reviews, I took the chance that the slide and negative scanning abilities of the HP 3970 *might* be ok... they are NOT. Whatever the specs may say, you can only scan up to 2 negatives or 1 slide at a time. The lamp DOES have to warm up AGAIN after each scan session, even if your last one was just moments before. This makes just waiting for a preview excruciating! Next, the scan time to actually scan a negative at only 300 dpi is about 45-60 sec.

Long and short- this scanner was set up and tested and now is going back to the store... all within about 1 hour.

I didn't even bother trying the regular image scan functions, as all I'm really interested in right now is scanning negatives and slides. I'm sure the basic functions are good, as HP does have a decent rep for flatbed scans.

The software installed easily though in Windows XP Pro. It did seem a bit clunky, but I didn't bother playing with it enough to let it bother me.

4-0 out of 5 stars solid scanner for the price
I don't know what scrappy's problem was, but my scanned slides turned out to be gorgeous. My old Umax Astra always blocked up slides and negatives with excessive contrast, but the HP scans them with no problem. Prints are a cinch. I don't find the wait excessive at all-- maybe fifteen seconds, which is hardly interminable for a USB device.

The software is good, but not great. It certainly doesn't have the sophistication of the Adoble Elements that come with Epson scanners, but it's fine for basic image manipulation. It seems to reset to prints with each new scan, which is inconvenient but not insurmountable for slides and negatives.

For a hundred bucks, it's a great piece of hardware. And in my experience, HP equipment is MUCH more durable than Epson.

1-0 out of 5 stars HP SCANJET 3570 DISPOSABLE?
Like others have mentioned in their review, my HP 3570 worked fine for a while. The problem started when after moving, I attempted to scan with my scanjet. Nothing works! It is like there is no power to the scanner, though it's connected exactly the way it was before I moved. I decided to see what what happen if I installed it on another computer and again - NOTHING WORKS!!! I tried all the troubleshooting and driver installing, updating, etc.... NOTHING!I see now after reading other's reviews, I am not the only one who feels scammed, ripped-off, dissappointed, let down, etc. by this pathetic HP product! Shame on what I used to think of as a respectable name in computer equipment!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ugh! 3 Am Madness!
I am going to burn this thing! I have spent 5 hours messing with this stupid thing and nothing works! I have downloaded every driver update etc. HP just sucks...

2-0 out of 5 stars An HP Miss
I found the software cumbersome, and always used software that came with my Samsung. Scans turned out fine, but speed was slow.
After six months of use I started getting error messages. After corresponding with the e-mail tech support, I determined that it is a problem with the TMA lamp. Even though the TMA is in the lid, it involves a problem in the base that disables the entire scanner. I had just assembled some negatives and slides to use with the TMA, but never got to use it before the unit died.
The tech support system worked well to pinpoint the problem, but it was some time, a lot of emails, and a phone call before someone told me that it was out of warrantee. (I am sorry, I don't remember all the warrantee periods for everything I buy.) This went on after I had already given my date of purchase early in the process. You would think that HP would train its support staff to notice this earlier. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with HP
Don't be mistaken... this is a "low end" printer. But if you're on a budget this is a great deal for less than $100. I am very satisfied with all printing applications. The only real negative aspect for me is it's kind of noisy when feeding the paper through, but is worth it for the speed and quality (and price). Be aware that this printer connects to your computer strictly through USB connection (no parallel). Expect to pay an additional $25-30 for the USB cable if you don't already have one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer for a Great Price!
As a poor college student needing a printer I was looking for quality for the best price possible. I knew that HP was a reputable brand as far as quality goes, so that's what swayed me in that area. For photo printing I was immensely impressed with the quality and detail. With the right resolution they look as though done by a professional photographer. The only downside is the consumption and price of the ink and the fact that you need to buy the connecting cable separate, but considering the price of the printer I'm not too miffed. It also doesn't require a lot of space. Score is 4 out of 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great basic printer for the money
I bought the HP 5150 as a replacement for a 7+-year old, broken HP ink jet, and I'm very happy with it. I use it to print a lot of envelopes and haven't had any problems with the alignment getting messed up like I did with my old printer. The guides adjust smoothly (unlike my old printer) and it prints quickly enough for my own personal use - faster than my old printer since the 5150 uses a USB cable (I saved $15 on that and bought it at Target). It was really simple to set up, too, and I only have a basic knowledge of computers.

I don't plan on using it to print photos, but I understand the cartridges switch out and you can print quality color photos. The cartridges were a bit tricky to snap in.

I am comfortable with HP quality, so I didn't consider any other brands. The price seemed reasonable.

Overall, I'm very happy with this printer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ours just died one day
We had our 5150 for three months and it conked out one day in the middle of a job. We called HP and were told, "Maybe it's the power cord. We'll send you a new one." That was wishful thinking, and we ended up having to send the printer back to HP in exchange for a brand-new one. It was a hassle, though, dealing with HP's computer system (ironic).

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Compact Printer
I recently bought my HP DeskJet 5150 as a replacement for an elderly HP inkjet printer that gave up the ghost. In general I have been very pleased with the 5150. It had flawless installation (I was ready to print ten minutes after I opened the box) and setup, and has excellent print characteristics in both B&W and color. It is very capable, starts up fast, has a quick throughput rate, and superior graphics resolution.

I have framed a couple of color prints printed on the 5150 (on HP photo paper), as they are equal to conventional photographic printing to the naked eye. My only caveat on the photo printing is that I can't vouch for the life of the prints, so far so good, but I know that some inkjet prints fade badly over time.

I am pretty hard on the 5150. Because I am in in the throes of researching and writing my Master's thesis right now, I am printing copious amounts, and running at least 500 pages a week through the 5150, and thus far have had no problems with it.

The one minor and completely unanticipated, annoyance I have with the 5150 is the shelf that holds the printed sheets is too short. HP provides a rickety pull out/fold over contraption to help hold printed work, but in my experience it is inconvenient at best (it almost doubles the frontal area of the printer), and is a real space hog on my desk.

Aside from that one small critique (which is the reason I gave it four instead of five stars) I think the HP 5150 is an excellent little printer at a bargain basement price. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nearly Merely Adequate.
I bought this unit for a home office. It is adequate, but for anything beyond light home use, it is nearly worthless. On the positive side, it has a small footprint, is relatively quiet, and will do just about everything.Set-up was reasonably easy, and, while the software requires a good chunk of space on the hard drive, it was not hard to install.I recommend loading the software before you attach the printer, and waiting until it prompts you to do so.

Paper handling for the printer is not great.I tried to feed through some business card stock, and it got caught on the rollers. This was not heavy paper, but it still got caught.I was able to feed through 4 X 6 flash/index cards by feeding them in sideways. but it took an obnoxiously long time for it to print a small amount of text in landscape mode.If all you want to print is regular 20 lb 8-1/2 X 11" paper and envelopes, you will be happy.

The Scanner sheet feeder is marginal:I tried to feed through some construction paper, and it could not handle it.I tried some paper that was not perfectly flat, and it clogged the feeder because the scananer output tray is not large enough.I tried to use it to scan a large amount of documents, and the amount of time it took to simply load the paper was excessive.I had a several hundred pages of documents I needed to copy to my hard drive, and was willing to feed it through 10 pages at a time, and it took hours of additional time simply because the machine would not load the paper into the scanner quickly enough.I finally pulled out a Brother printer/copier I have and used it because it was much faster, even though the actual document scanning speed was about the same.Again, this is for small projects and home use.

Scanner:It does a good job for my uses, which involve mostly storing black and white documents to hard drive.

Color Copying:I tried copying a color photograph -- the result was dark and the colors were wrong. The output was streeky, despite the fact the print cartridges are almost new.

Black and white copying:Good. At least it does something right.

Print speed and quality:Print quality is what you expect from a low end printer.Adequate.Black is good, color is fair, and a little grainy.Speed is good for an inexpensive printer.I haven't timed it.

Conclusion:This unit is fine for the occasional home user who wants to print school work, letters, web pages, send and receive faxes, and do basic scanning.Except for the poor design of the scanner/fax sheet feeder, it does everything adequately, but nothing (except perhaps faxing) really well.If your budget is limited, and you are not going to get a lot of use from it, this is a good product; if not, buy something else.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not eligible for Prime or Super Saver Shipping
Just a warning to Prime members: You will have to pay shipping for this item. The reason why it's not eligible for Prime is beyond me, considering I've seen a printer that would cost 5 times as much to ship that is eligible (and both are direct from Amazon, not third-party sellers). If you have Prime, it's almost cheaper just to buy the 5510, because it is eligible as of March 28. ...
