best pocket pc I ever had
I bought HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC about 2 months ago. I talked to all the sales rep at the computer store & electronic store such as Bestbuy & Circuitcity about the difference between MS Window base & Palm OS base. Everyone recommend the Window based model and specially this model (HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC). I didn't know anything about that at that time & I just bought it. I also have a friend who bought Sony Clie model which is Palm OS based. I guess he paid almost about the same price I paid to mine. We compared those two and we found out HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC is much faster, more memory... a lot better machine. He finally bought HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC (same as mine) for this Chistmas. He & I really like this pocket PC & you will love it, too.

Great start but weak on key options and features
Well, got the new IPAQ yesterday in the mail. WOW, what a great little PDA. Other reviewers have talked about the wonderful features and such. However, let me share my initial experience trying to find some of the key accessories and features. First, missing from the product is any kind of protective cover. Drop this little gem the first time on a hard floor and its going to be toast. Checked the HP site and discovered they offer no solutions for the 1910 yet. Third party products look very bulky (so called universal solutions) for this very slim unit. Second, there is no built in JPEG file viewer. You must go to the the MS site and purchase a third party product. This viewer should have been bundled with PC 2002 operating system. Third, try as I might, find a way to delete files within the file exployer is not possible. I finally resorted to accessing the PDA from the desktop system to eliminate unwanted files. Forth, I discovered a website dedicated to tracking bugs in PocketPC 2002....there are lots of them [local website] and many are still unresolved.

Bottomline: Love the size, price and screen...but not impressed by the lack of critical accessories and features of PocketPC 2002. I would have thought that this hot product would have had a better launch.

One should try this
I received iPaq as a birthday gift from my fiance.I know quite well about electronics.
My initial impression was Wow..
The Display/Graphics is extremely pleasing.Navigation is very simple..so any starter who is not very techno savvy can operate this PC with ease.Since the operating system is Windows CE,its very simple to browse thru(as many are familiar with Windows GUI).The best feature ofcourse is Outlook Syncup (must for all Pocket PCs ofcourse) but its easy and quick.The software installation is not too difficult either.The sound quality is good and works great with a Secure Digital card as well.

Now for a few Cons,
The conventional "CROSS" at Top,right hand corner doesnot stand for "Closing" of the program but it means "Minimising" the screen.That leaves your program still running in Backgroud.So even if the display shows your "desktop" (Today screen) there are functions running in backgroud...This will make your PC freeze often if many programs are running.
This PC freezes very often and I have to reset it then.
If it freezes real bad then you will have to Hard reset it which means your data is lost.
So I would suggest that "Stop" all the running programs at certain intervals..You have that option in "Settings".

But overall I am very happy with the performance...
I would advise one to buy it.

Sync problems keep cropping up/no support
I've had mine for 1.5 years, and it's very useful, except for one problem. I can't sync. At all.

At first it synced fine, but after a while, I had occasional problems and would have to spend hours getting it to work, because my comp would not be able to find the device (I've found many reasons for this, and trust me - they are a pain to chase down - even fluff in the connector and an iffy signal to the interface will do the trick). This time, I've spent a week of evenings searching for the solution. When I checked the HP Web site, this item was totally lacking in help, I believe because it is no longer sold. My comp is fine, the device is fine, and the Activesync is there - they just are not speaking. I call this the "family feud PDA" - they are close, they are family - they won't talk.

I've given up on it - bought a Palm-based product for a bit higher cost. So easy, plus it has a camera, an MP3 player, and it syncs!

hp1910 - Nice size, lousy hardware, would not buy again
I've used PDAs for 10+ years and this unit does not compare favorably. Best features: Screen is great, software on the PDA works great. Three biggest drawbacks: 1)Unprotected buttons on front and side lead to inadvertent activation of software and battery drain whenever the unit is touched (think pocket, purse or briefcase), 2) this unit communicates only through synchronization, there is no way to communicate with any other hardware (no GPS, no serial port connection, etc.), and 3) the Microsoft ActiveSync software and/or the interface with this device is buggy (I've had lots of problems that were only recoverable by finding and deleting folders and files on my PC and then starting the connection process from scratch). I would not buy this product again and was very disappointed to uncover the missing serial port capability (not obvious until I got the unit home). ... Read more

Funky Construction
I must say, for such a ...piece of equipment, this device is not made very well. Before I purchased the Compaq, I owned a Palm V. Whereas the Palm never failed me, in less than a year of ownership, the Compaq has developed several problems:

* My Compaq has fried its memory repeatedly
* The stylus no longer clicks into place, that mechanism has apparently broken.
* The silver coating is coming up

The color screen is nice, but doesn't make up for the headache or the cost. I wish I'd just purchased another Palm V when my last one was stolen.

Almost Excited
Compaq has a winner here in the base technology but it needs a tune-up big time (which is happening as we 'sync').

Summarily, you get a cool little computer with a stubborn streak and a big mouth that can thankfully be turned down, with MUCH more space and operational capacity than a Palm, but still not enough for most people to call it Home.

Thanks to the back light, you can actually >see< the information, which is a clever bonus. Unlike some PDAs, there is no drab olive-green screen to twist your eyes into pretzels. Its like you're in a little office with the flourescents on.

The 'sync' software works (ok), just don't expect any pampering like the Palm people gave us with their one-button push sync. You'll work for this peanut, baby. It has the distinct flavor of rushed-out backroom benchmarking.

But after several knock-down drag-outs you'll (hopefully) find your feet and eventually get your Purple Heart, and then you're ok; you become VALIDATED, a part of the GREAT-SYNC legion - a surviving Groto of the IPAQ challenge, the strong, the proud, the survivors. Or else you'll have a _________ yard-sale or throw it in the trash (I dare you.)

So go ahead and stick MS Outlook in the Start-Up menu, cause she's a legend in her own mind and hates to be left out of the fuss (sync loop), (this is one thing, among others, they don't mention).

If you get through the software installation, wait 30 or 60 seconds til blastoff, and make a connection, you might actually get to build a working relationship or two..but don't get comfortable. LOL.

Hey, why can't the Compaq people invite the Palm people to a pool party, and let them explain how to make (like they did A LONG TIME AGO!!!) that INGENIOUS ONE-TOUCH SYNC BUTTON and that TOTALLY FUNCTIONAL (AND PRETTY) PALM DESK-TOP SOFTWARE, that makes you the king of your castle, not a serf in a wrestle.

The bad news: you just heard some.

The good news: It's a buyer's market baby on the 3670 due to the yard sales from the frustrated and upgraders - and after all, it is a cool little computer. So why not test your skills and pick one up?

Great unit - NO Battery Life.
I've owned the Palm V (Monochrome)...Palm 505 (Color)...and the iPaq 3670 (Color).

Now, the Compaq screen wins hands down. It's bigger since the keyboard and hand recognition areas hide, releasing the screen space for images, text, etc. Plus, don't forget the MP3 player, which the Palm does NOT have (I think they only beep, how embarassing).

The programs are a bit memory hungry so it would be nice to have internal expansion for memory (64MB is really very little for this unit - the equivalent of 8MB in the Palm). Sounds weird, especially coming from an engineer, but that's how it feels. The Windows environment really gobbles up the memory. You can buy an expansion port that will hold additional memory, although with good management you can get away without expanding it.

The only real problem that I have with this unit is the battery life. Well, actually, WHAT BATTERY LIFE? If you play any game for 1.1/2 to 2 hours...you're out of battery!! If you leave the unit, WITHOUT USING IT, overnight - for two nights - you're out of battery again! Did I get a lemon? Do they all work like this? Does anyone sell battery packs that also include memory expansion? How does battery life compare with the Palm, you ask? Well, the Palm 505 (Color) will last about a week with decent everyday use and a lot of playing each day. The Palm V will last about 2 weeks (yes, WEEKS), with average use. The iPAQ will last 1 to 2 days with average use (and I'm being kind).

It's sad to see the best selling Pocket PC with such few options where accessories are concerned, shame on Compaq for not providing incentives to other manufacturers. Let's see how HP plays the game. Congratulations to the NEXICAM for bringing the first digital camera adapted for this unit. Now, they should have combined it with a battery pack, GPS, Cell Phone and Memory Slot - that way I could get rid of all the other gadgets that clutter up my night stand.

Want the best ? If you can live with low battery life, then this is your unit. I have a car charger and 110VAC-12VDC adapter that goes with me when I travel or I lose access to my contact information while I'm away.

Head and shoulders above the rest
I was lucky enough to receive this as a gift and was totally blown away by the capabilities of this device. The ActiveSync software is almost transparent and you never have to worry about remembering to sync before you head out the door. A few of my favorite features are the voice recorder, Windows Media Player for mp3's (headphone jack is very nice), and the "transcriber" option, which could even recognize a doctor's handwriting. There are a ton of cool apps you can download/buy for this device, including maps, wireless web software, etc. If you can shell out the $$ and are looking for a handheld with a VERY high "cool factor" please check out the iPaq 3760.

Good job for Compaq
It' s very useful for daily life, I'm graduated student. I always use this thing for my lecture. You can use Word, Excel, Powerpoint in this machine. The best thing I will say is it's very easy to use because one of my friend use sony clie 760, and he told me to teach him uninstall the program for his machine, but I couldn't do it, because it's very difficult to do, but for iPaq you can use it easily like your desktop because of Window OS.
I like this iPaq because:
1. Easy to use.
2. Good design.
3. Big screen.
4. Good color display.
5. A lot of accessories.
6. A lot of good utilities programs.
7. Pocket PC 2002.
8. Easy to synchonize.
Its drawbacks:
1. Short battery life just couple hours.
2. No cover.
3. No compactflash slot.
4. I sometimes miss my appointments because I didn't hear reminder sound.
5. It'll be very too big to carry with compactflash jacket .
I absolutely recommend this product . I use it to manage my time schedule, banking account, dictionary, MP3, game, and Internet as well as MSN messenger. This product is much better than Palm pilot.

Nice Features but.....
I purchased this IPAQ about a month ago to use at home, work, and college. The main feature I like is being able to consolodate all phone numbers, contacts, and Microsoft Office documents into one little device. I've eliminated reems of paperwork with my IPAQ and I'm very glad I purchased it.

BUT the support from Compaq is terrible. I'm a Social Worker, NOT a computer programmer. Yet my IPAQ comes with a small owner's manual and very little useful online advice that is actually written in plain English. Navigating their web site is tricky. The PocketPC software (Microsoft) is mostly straightforward and easy to use (ingenious really), but there's no simple way to schedule an appointment with your contacts--why not? Isn't that why you buy a handheld computer?

Word of advice: If you're going to be using your IPAQ more than 4 hours a day, then you might want to upgrade to the IPAQ H3850 simply because the 3850 has a much longer battery life. My battery dies within about 2-4 hours on LOW power. The problem is you have to keep the unit charged to about 40% so it doesn't permanently lose all the data. Either upgrade to the 3850 or buy several AC adapters to charge the thing.

Even with all the complaints, I love the fact that my IPAQ has made me a much more productive student and employee.

The Compaq iPAQ 3765 is an amazing PDA. Well, it's not really a PDA, it's an actual Pocket PC. You have to see it to believe it. It's got Pocket PC 2002, and it's awesome. It's got Microsoft Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, and basically Pocket outlook just spread into mini programs. If you don't want to sit at your computer and read your emails cause your in a rush, just sync your computer with your pocket pc and your ENTIRE inbox will be synced to your iPAQ. I basically created my iPAQ into a super iPAQ. I got the keyboard(which is fantastic), the dual slot flash card expansion pack, a 256 meg flash card, and a MGM flash card reader. A Palm pilot is NOTHING compared to what this thing can do. THey have so many application for this pocket pc. You can play your MP3's on windows media player, watch movies or clips on PocketTV(Download the software), Play games such as the Famous Age of Empires(INCREDIBLE) Rayman, Packman and many more. Print with it, play multiplayer games, make cartoons on PocketFlipbook(Download) surf the net(Need wireless), and more. Plus they now have mad an espansion card so you can get PHONE SERVICE on it. This is one of the greatest Technological creations ever.

A high school junior
It helped me tremendously when doing my school work, This is because I could type notes on it (with an ipaq compatible keyboard, not included) without using a BULKY and indiscreet laptop, and easily EDIT my notes (sooo awesome and better than using the old fashioned wire-bound paper notebooks) when I transfer the notes to my computer. Highly recommended for students. BUT, the aspects of it that helped me in school are ones that you could find in almost any PDA retailing about $150 and up (due to "DocumentsToGo" and "4.0 student" software. Both are very necessary for students). You see, I had a Sony Clie SJ20 before I upgraded to this, and I realized that both did the same in terms of school work.

The main thing I don't like about it is the seemingly false advertising from compaq, saying you could get internet access. Not that you can't, you CAN, but only after purchasing

1) an expansion pack: WHEN YOU ADD THE EXPANSION PACK, FORGET THE TERM "POCKET PC" BECAUSE IT WILL NOT FIT WELL IN YOUR POCKET. It also makes it heavy. I hate the expansion pack because it's so bulky, and you can't find any cases on the market to fit the ipaq and the expansion pack, except for the case made by the manufacturer. I actually considered making my own case for it (because I'm into arts and crafts) just so I didn't have to spend more money on a case. Due to the expansion pack, I wanted to upgrade to one of the newer and smaller models of the ipaq because the unit is so indiscreet with the expansion pack.

2) A compatible Sierra Wireless Aircard: a lot of places don't even sell them

3) And setting up the internet service you will get (your new account) through a phone company. Hard for me, some places don't do internet access through pocket PCs.

Not to mention that the expansion pack is another $70-100 added onto the original price of the ipaq, and there's the price of the aircard and internet service (so monthly payments mean more money added onto the unit). So, when the company says, "internet access", be very wary of what you're getting into because a lot of leg work and money is involved. In total, the things previously mentioned are four extra things that would have made me not buy the ipaq if had known about them before.

The other thing I wasn't satisfied with is the windows media player, on which you can play MP3s. You can only play about seven of them, unless you install more memory (and getting more memory means getting a memory card, which means getting a dual slot expansion pack, which means more BULK...uggghh). I haven't tried a movie or any visual on it yet.

The battery power dies out quickly as well. So be prepared to see the "main battery low" sign appear on the screen every couple days or so (with regular usage).

Overall, if you want true satisfaction with this product, be willing to spend an extra $200-300, in addition to monthly internet service payments, and go through a lot of leg work.

MY SUGGESTION: buy a more expensive PDA that has built in internet access (well, if you want internet access at all...and if you don't, it's not really a pocket computer/PC), or simply save lots of money and don't buy a PDA with internet access. It seems that there are lots of great PDAs on the market that have all the same features that the ipaq 3765, minus the internet. Overall, the whole internet illusion that is set forth by pocket PC manufacturers isn't as easy to obtain as it seems with any pocket PC out right now (because even with the ones that claim they have built in internet, you still have to buy a specific and very expensive internet card, in addition to monthly service payments. Windows PDAs have long fought an uphill battle. Users have flocked to the highlyfunctional Palm Connected Organizers and tended to ignore the more powerful,more expensive, and bigger Windows PDAs. The release of the new HP Jornada 548,the first among the new Pocket PC devices to hit the market, may finally turnthis around. The Jornada is still a bit bigger, about 5 ounces heavier, and moreexpensive than the Palm Vx. But it is sleek, robust, highly functional, and thecolor screen is beautifully sharp. The "wow" factor is definitelythere.

The Pocket PC OS is also responsive and well thought out--a big improvement overWinCE. In addition to the suite of powerful pocket applications (Word, Excel,Internet Explorer, PIM, and Scheduler), the Jornada can also serve as a digitalvoice recorder (to capture those spur-of-the-moment thoughts), an MP3 player,audible content player, and even an e-books reader.

The standard 32 MB memory is expandable using standard CompactFlash Type Icards. The product ships with a synchronization cradle (which supports USB orconventional serial interfaces), an extra sync cable (so you don't have to takethe cradle everywhere), an AC power adapter, and earbuds. A microphone and asmall speaker are built in. For MP3 use, we recommend expanding your RAM to 64MB with a CompactFlash card to provide an hour of near-CD-quality music.

Most Windows users should be able to run through the setup wizard and startusing the Jornada and its applications without cracking the manual. The only real caveat is that Pocket PC works best in a Windows-centric world. Atlaunch, it appears that there is no support for synchronizing with non-Microsofte-mail and scheduling applications. (With an optional modem or network-interfacecard, you can send and receive Internet POP mail directly via your ISP.)

The choice between Pocket PC and Palm still comes down to tradeoffs. Palms arestill lighter, smaller, and cheaper, and they do the basics beautifully. The best feature mix so far
The Jornada 548 is not perfect, but for me its the best mix of features so far.

I've had several color palm-sized Windows CE and Pocket PCs. I've had 2 Casio Cassiopeia E-105's, a Compaq Aero 1520, and a Cassiopeia E-10 and A-11. I've also looked at the Compaq iPaq.

The iPaq is fast and light and its display is easily visible outdoors. But once you add a CompactFlash card sleeve it's bulky. And you still need a case to protect the screen, adding further bulk. (Screen protection is important to me because I've broken the display on my Cassiopeia E-10 twice!)

The HP Jornada 548 has a built-in metal screen protector and CompactFlash slot, and a metal case. It looks sleek and its display is very nice indoors (but hard to see outdoors). Since I need screen protection and I always use a CompactFlash memory card, it's the perfect Pocket PC for me.

A word about Pocket PCs vs. Palms: If all you need is an electronic organizer, a Palm is sufficient. It's easy to use, it's convenient, and its organizer functions are simple. But look at one of the Pocket PCs if you need an organizer that's FULLY compatible with Microsoft Outlook (including all contact information fields). Look at a Pocket PC if you want the power of a multimedia PC that you can carry in your pocket. To me there is no question the Pocket PC is the right choice for me. It won't be for everyone.

You can get a color Pocket PC for not much more than the color Palm IIIc. If monochrome is enough for you, the Compaq Aero 1550 Pocket PC is thin and sleek. It's in the same price range as a good Palm, and it's more capable.

Excellent value - great organizer
I recently replaced an aging Palm IIIx with the Jornada 548, and what a great choice! I'll start with the two cons I have about the 548 - it's a bit on the bulky and heavy side compared to other Jornadas and PDAs in general. And the record button could be moved down or to the right side, I always seem to mistakenly press it and end up with some muffled sound recordings.

On the positive side (and there are many!), the customizable screens and buttons are fantastic. If you're not happy with the pre-determined buttons on your home menu, then simply change them - really, it's that easy. The MP3 player is relatively simple to figure out and download to, and the sound is ok for a PDA; not top quality, but good enough for voice recordings. The recorder does copy sounds as MP3 files, so it can take up a lot of space (the ease of adding memory is a bonus). The feel of the casing is great, I feel like I could drop this and it would bounce right back (though I haven't performed that stunt quite yet!). It has a nice rubber-ish grip on the side that is quite comfortable to hold. The setup is quick and easy, especially if you sync to 2 different machines.

Overall, this is in my opinion the best PDA you'll find for [the price]. Forget the Palm - go with the Jornada!

Quick shipment, but now there is a problem w/no response.
The product was shipped quickly. But now I cannot get the Pocket PC to connect to any PC. I have emailed the seller numerous times about this and they will not respond to me. Amazon is abolutely no help either, they will not do anything to help me. If I ever do get the problem fixed, I will change the bad rating for the seller.

HP Jornada 547/548
Great PDA, beats out any palm type device by a longshot in capability expandability. Only draw back is ever shrinking selection of aftermarket goodies for it due to the processor.

No Pocket PC 2002
For its day the 548 was a stunning piece of equipment. I have been a Jornada 548 owner since week 1 of its release. I am disappointed to report, however, that the older Jornada models have been left in the dust by the Compaq-HP merger. Ipaq'ers get an upgrade from the Pocket PC OS to the newer, marginally better Pocket PC 2002 OS. Although the OS is only moderately more useful, it is aesthetically more pleasing and is symbolic of the fact that the 548 will receive little attention or support from HP/Compaq ever again.

Also, the lack of back up batteries is quite a nuisance when you lose all drivers and software because you forgot to recharge the 548. Furthermore, and this may be my error, I never found a car charger for it which would have been useful given the adequate, but not stellar battery life.

Pleased with the HP 940C
I have owned this printer since Christmas ('01) and have had nothing but success with it. The print speed is great for text documents. I was also able to print great looking glossy slides for a poster presentation. The print cartridges seem to have a pretty good lifetime, as well. I haven't had any problems with paper jams. It has handled some documents with pretty hefty memory neeeds without locking-up too. Definitely, well worth the cost!

Mixed Feelings
I bought this printer about a month ago and was slightly disappointed by its performance. The print quality is great, the photos I printed looked 99% like the 35mm prints that came from the lab, but I made the mistake of using 4x6 photo paper instead of the standard 8 1/2 x 11 sheets. Approximately every-other print came out crooked on the paper, and the printer has an annoying habit of cutting off the last inch of the image because of margin restrictions. I couldn't find an option to use the maximum paper margins, and so had to end up making a white border around the image so that the printout didn't look strange.
I bought this printer as a replacement for a 5-year-old Epson brand, and am considering going back to it because of my frustrations with this HP. Summary: Great print quality and speed, but not good with custom paper sizes.

It worked fine until I bought a new computer
I owned this printer for more than a year. It worked fine until I bought a new computer, I unplugged it, moved to a new place, and replugged it. The power supply burnt out. The printer was dead. I wasted 2 packs of unused expensive ink cartridges.

Great perfomance printer
Excellent job for small office or home use. Good resolution and fine prints on paper and photo paper as well.

If you value your time and money then I'd something else...
I have owned an HP 940c now for about a year, and as it's now 4AM in the morning and I have a long project to work on, the printer has given me a hardware failure.

Having said that I've tried it on different computers, with different cartridges (thought maybe the OS X driver was to blame but evidently not), and it's dead. Now it's 4AM and I've spent 2 hours troubleshooting the printer only to have it dead.

To top it off this printer uses the HP #15 cartridge which is a #45 cartridge with half the ink at the same price.. you cannot use a #45 in this printer.

I highly reccomend against buying this printer. Not only is it subject to the expensive ink cartridges but it has been widely known for paper feeder problems (a school district recalled theirs), and they are all eventually prone to this sort of failure. ... Read more

Solid Performer And A Great Value!
This HP 320 2.1 MP camera is rock solid and takes great pictures. 2 MP is totally adequate for typical picture taking. Very few people blow up there photos beyond 8.5" X 11". An optical zoom (digital zoom decreases resolution) would be nice, but more than doubles/triples the price. Instead, the operator just needs to move forward or backwards to get the proper framing.

I purchased this camera on sale with the free accessory kit (case, NiMH batteries and charger) for fewer than 100 clams here on Amazon. I also picked up a new HP 8881 docking station on ebay for 30 clams and a 128MB-memory card for 35 clams (after rebate) at Dell. So, you can get into great digital for not a lot of money.

This camera is an outstanding value and a rock solid performer. I highly recommend it for people who want to take great pictures without the added cost of advanced features. All you need is the camera initially to get started. From there you can decide if you want to add more accessories.

UPDATE- I did have to upgrade my camera's firmware to support the 128MB SD-RAM cards. HP sent me a free 16MB SD-RAM card for the upgrade process (you need a SD-RAM card to facilitate the procedure). The process worked well and I'm now enjoying my fully functional 128MB card!

HP PS320 Teenage Review
After having this camera for about a week i'm throughly pleased. I had previously had a cheap $20 camera with .3mp resolution. I immediatly found the difference amazing. The price was just right for the HP PS320 (i had bought it in a bundle with printer and memory card). I had been researching for about a month, and finally decided to buy the Kodak ES4530 but realized that I didn't even need a 5mp if I only wanted to get 4" by 6" pictures. The screen is kinda fuzzy and takes a while to take the next picture, but that is liveable. Also the screen is incredebly easy to use, it took a while to figure out how to delete. Now that i found out that the delete button is not directly on the camera but in menu mode I feel safer that my pictures will not be deleted. When you get the camera, don't forget extra memory. The camera only has about 8 pictures with the internal memory; but with a SD64 card you can take about 64 pictures at highest resolution. Since I am in high school mostly this camera was to take pictures of my friends and it has worked very well for this task. One problem is that when I upload the pictures to my website they turned out VERY blurry. Another complaint is that the software would not load onto my computer. Luckily my computer is also a HP so it recognized the model and I found an old program that lets me upload pictures. Over all this is a great camera. I've tried to work other camera's that my friends have, but they are to complicated. Just some things to remember to get
-extra memory (YOU WILL NEED IT!!!!!!)
-photo printer (the prints come out better than the disposable photos and is great for you money)
-BATTERIES!! (after A DAY AND A HALF!!! my battereies were gone! I did take alot of pictures but that seems to short of a life for the batteries.)

Awesome Camera
This is an Awesome camera. I tried the equivalent Vivitar Camera, it was horibble! This little camera blows it away. I also bought rechargable batteris(a must have), a 64 MB SD Card (also must have)and I bought a HP Photosmart 435 photoprinter. The printer is awesome and together it prints out beautiful pixs! I would highly recommend this to anybody!! :)

Excellent Choice
I recently received this camera with the HP printer bundle for my birthay. Both work wonderfully. They are so easy to use and are great for taking just basic pictures. The price was very affordable as well.

This camera does a good job for the money. The pictures are plenty clear to print unless you want to enlarge. The zoom is somewhat annoying since it puts a box around a piece of the picture in the viewer rather than erasing the part you won't see. great features, poor reliability
I would love the ipaqs if I could ever count on them to work. The 5555 is the third ipaq I have owned in the past three years (The company I work for gets them at a great discount, and I don't have to pay for them, which is why I keep getting them)

First off, there are many things to love about this pda. The fingerprint recognition is really cool. It works perfectly for me, and I don't have to worry about remembering a password or having it stolen. The integrated bluetooth and 802.11b is an excellent add-on, and hasn't added to the bulk of the device at all. There is a large amount of built-in memory, the display looks beautiful, the battery is swappable, and there are a lot of nice applications built in.

What disappoints me with every ipaq is the low reliability. It is so poor that I would never personally spend my own money on one of these devices. I typically have to hit the reset button on my ipaq several times per day, becuase under heavy use the thing will freqently slow down or completely freeze up. You can't blame third party apps for these faults, since I am commonly using the standard features of my ipaq when these faults occur.

My first two ipaqs died within about a year of purchase. The first one had a battery go bad, and since it was built into the device I could not swap it myself. The second one just stopped working. I could turn it on, but it basically just gave me a blue screen of death and nothing more.

I love what the ipaqs offer, I just wish HP could get their act together and make them work as they're supposed to.

Top notch with room for improvements...
I replaced my Sony Clie with this machine for few different reasons. I wanted a longer battery life, better software, better screen, more memory, expandability and better accessory compatibility. And I got all that in Ipaq 5555. Battery lasts a long time and put many devices to shame. It is also user replaceable which allows you not only to use extended packs but if for any reason your power pack fails you can replace it on your own without sending your device for lengthy warranty service. So far PocketPC operating system has been stable to me and very easy and intuitive to use. Most of the software I got for it provides easy and painless installation. Erasing files and keeping everything organized is also very easy. For some reason Palm devices always have very little memory. 5555 comes with whooping 128 megs and with right memory card your options are unlimited. For example I use it with 256 SD card. There are a lot of after market accessories available for IPAQ made either by HP or by third party manufacturer. You have to watch out for HP accessories because some of them are not directly compatible with 5000 series. They have an external battery charger that states compatibility with 5555 yet it is not, but it is compatible with expansion pack (one that includes battery).

Bluetooth and wireless LAN work fine and allow you to almost always be connected. Unit is very solid with it's aluminum housing and case that is supplied with it besides being a really good deal protects the Ipaq the right way. My biggest complain is that 5555 is on the bigger side. It is a big PDA and coming from the smaller machine it is a slight disadvantage. I also have to rave about the screen. It is super bright, with excellent contrast and color definition. I kind of dislike the finger print security and perceive it as useless although cool conversation starter feature.

So how do I use my Ipaq? I work both as a web developer and EMT. Ipaq holds my medical and drug reference books for street work, basic software for web developing, few games, mp3s and tons of email, contacts, notes, pdfs, docs and excel files. I use it on the street to jog down info, cross reference medications and to keep records. I use it in the office for everyday routine stuff. On the train or when I get bored I play some games. It is a good machine and with few extra accessories (car charger, memory card and keyboard) it will last you forever (or at least until 6666 is out).

Disappointed
Great while it works. Mine died after 9 months of casual use. I'm not looking forward to dealing with warranty repairs.

This is a great Pocket PC if you can afford it.
I really like this Ipaq. I've had a 3835,3955,2215 and now this. This Ipaq really rocks.The integrated wifi and bluetooth makes surfing the net very easy. Even with the zippy 2215, I had trouble getting wifi due to a very obstinate wifi sd card. There's something to be said for having integrated wifi. Not just that but the 128 mb really makes a difference. I no longer find myself checking the memory setting to see which program needs to go on sd storage. Speed is nice and the color display is beautiful. Battery life could be better and of course it would be nice to have a compact flash but I'm pretty happy with the product.

I would like to comment on reviewers who claim that the technical support is junk along with the device's reliability. May I point out that it is Microsoft's operating system, which is to be expected as no operating system is perfect. The iPAQ's hardware has nothing to do with how many times a reset is needed, since it has not only more ram, but a faster processor than most other pda's currently on the market. As for the technical support, I have had two iPAQ's and always received the same friendly and careless help needed to fix my problems straight away. Here's a recent example of how HP's support works.

1. Problem occurs.
2. Call to HP, they check warranty (lasts a year).
3. They send you an empty box, shipping and parts replacement, 100% free.
4. Ship it out next day.
5. Repair begins and ends in under an hour.
6. You receive an email confirming depature and repair success.
7. You receive the iPAQ back, only having it leave your side for less than 3 days.

If that's not service, then I don't know what is. I believe that many people are rude, arrogant, and are ignorant to their mistakes. I told the support technicians that I had dropped it and they said no problem, and replaced the screen, usb host connector, and battery all free of charge. Hope this helps your buying decision.

EDIT Finish -

In comparison to newer-age pda's including the Toshiba e805, the Asus MyPal, and the new Dell Axim, I hope you will regard my post only within HP and Compaq's products. This particular iPAQ is a giant leap from my Compaq iPAQ 3835, gone are the days of cradle synchronizing and wired connections. With Bluetooth and wi-fi I can synchronize and receiving data virtually anywhere.

A few reasons to avoid buying this:
- it is not a good first pda, as some features require proficient computer knowledge
- it is not worth buying unless you plan on using all features, including the finger print scan, otherwise go with the cheaper 4100 series iPAQs.

A few reasons to avoid buying another:
- is an 'upgradable' iPAQ, which means all previous software, cords/connections, sleeves (jackets), styli, and cases will work with this iPAQ.
- has wi-fi and bluetooth built in, along with 128megs sd ram, and 48 megs rom, gives you extra storage space.
- speedy processor and an sdio slot.

I believe this is the current best option for anyone wanting a powerful handheld machine. With the largest array of expansion abilities and wireless capabilities, it is the smartest choice you can make. ... Read more

100% satisfied
It is hard to believe that this printer is about $100. I have been using the printer for a few months now.

Pros:
-----
1. Photo-printer, scanner, color and B & W copier -- all in one.
2. Amazing performance for all of the above functions.
3. Photo printing quality amazing (on HP photo-paper).
4. More silent than my previous Lexmark Z52 printer.
5. Never had a paper jam even once (so far).
6. Approx $100!!! This is worth $300 of money spent on Lexmark!
7. Unlike Lexmark, cartridges do not go bad every now and then.

Cons:

Ink is costly, but then so is for every printer.

No option to choose greyscale printout. I do 'not' see this as a problem because I have almost always dried up color ink than using it completely (with Lexmark).

Software is a resource hog. Computer takes longer to start. In the Task-Manager (Windows 2000), I see several HP executables and services running all the time. I see this as the one and only weakness in this printer.

Photo-quality:

Use HP photo-paper only. (No I am do not work for HP.) I tried photo-paper from Staples. Black looks real black only on HP photo-paper. This HP paper is costly by the way (~ $1 per Letter sheet)!

On ordinary paper too, photo looks better than many other printers.

(I tried several printers on display. Canon photo-quality is good but smears extra ink on the paper. Agreed that the printers on display are often abused (!), but still this is what your printer will most likely do! Confirmed from reviews on Canon i560 etc.)

1. Follow all the steps of the installation process as listed on the included chart. They are all important as mentioned! Printer will not work otherwise. Following these steps by itself was easy and printer was up and running in 10 minutes.

Shockingly poor quality
I bought this printer lured by the price and the all-in-one feature. Since the beggining I had problems with printouts suddendly stopping without apparent reason. A call to HP support made me by a AC powered USB 4 port (according to them laptops don't send enough power to the printer...). 20 dollars to the trash, because the printer still has the problem. The printing quality is not bad for the price, although it CAN'T handle heavy paper (50% of your photo papers will print ruined). The scanner is ok for the price too. The copier function, and actually everything related to the software is lousy, bulky, and chances are it will at least slow down your system (or even crash it). Actually, I think the whole problem with the printer is the soft...
This is my first HP, a couple of years ago I had a small printing company and used similarly priced printers from other brands for HEAVY (and I mean it, 2000+ prints a day) printing and never had this kind of problems. This printer seems so brittle that I doubt it could handle that load.

HP 1210 psc
This is by far the best unit I have owned and it is my third HP. I like the speed of the printer and the fact that the ink is dry. No smearing! The scanner is quick and accurate, so is the copier. I like the fact that the computer does not have to be on to copy something too. All in all it is worth the money and I am very pleased with it.

Good but has it's drawbacks
My family has had this printer for about three months now and it is just like my title. The printer is rather slow and can be annoying (I prefer laser it's fast.) The printer also tends to shake and rattle as it prints and I also suggest you don't put anything on top of it (it prints slower and not as well.) But does print accurately and since I don't print many pictures it has worked well. Ink is really expensive but does last longer than my previous printer. You'll find that most ink cartridages are expensive. (If you are a student or teacher you may be able to get a discount.) The scanner is good and works well with the HP photo and imaging software. The scan button doesn't work very well but if you click scan in the software it works great. The imaging software doesn't have a whole lot of features but you can make it work if you are patient and resourceful. The copier has only two functions 100% and fit to page while another all-in-one does much more (it is also over twice the size). Since I am going off to college I am going to purchase another one because it is small in size and space is of the essence (I can make do without the speed and extra features.)

Horrible tech support!!!
The machine earns 3 stars from me. I took 2 stars off the 3 due to the terrible customer service! After using it for half year, the scanning software stop working! Reinstall it on fresh win xp pro, still not working. Call HP tech support, the first two agents put me on hold and never come back. I waited for 15 each and found the telephone finally became silient. The third agent, tried one thing, which did not work at all. Then he said will go to the lab to do some experiments!! I asked how long it will take. He said 5-8 min. I then waited another 25 minutes and the telephone became silent again!

Avoid HP if you can, unless you feel confident that you will never call their technical support! I am so disappointed with HP now. But I am happy that this unpleasant experience happened before I buy a laptop. Because I now know clearly that I will NOT buy HP laptop!

Not for Scrapbookers!
If you are thinking of buying this printer because of the capability of printing on 12 x 12 inch paper for scrapbooking, DO NOT PLAN TO USE IT TO PRINT PHOTOS. The photo quality is actually worse than my old 3-color, HP 700 series printer. The horizontal markings from the printing are so bad it looks like you have printed on corragated cardboard. The image quality is fuzzy, and the colors are not true-to-life.

absolute lemon
I probably have as much experience with 11x17 capable color printers as anyone in the world and I've got to say this is easily the most difficult and unsatisfactory printer I have ever dealt with. HP's last 11x17 product (1220c) had amazing print quality, was faster, and lasted me for 3 solid years of heavy use. By contrast, the 9650 is MUCH slower for "best" print setting and MIND BOGGLINLY SLOW for its "maximum DPI" setting...try 35minutes for an 11x17 plot. Unacceptable. Not to mention that my printer is now broken and wont print at all.

Expensive, slow, and an ink hog as well
I don't normally buy HP printers but was looking for a speedy model for use in a work environment and was told this would be a good fit. First off, if there's a slower printer on the market today I would be amazed. My 4 year old Epson 880 will print 3-4 pages per minute faster than this unit, and the prints look far better on the Epson. Have not found 13x19 paper so I cant say how this works. The ink cartridges run out too fast to be of any use. For the price there aren't any good reasons to buy this unit. There has to be better large format printers out there, keep looking.

Always a fight to get a print out of it.
I love my HP deskjet 5550 printer for high quality photo prints. The 9650 sounded like the same system with a larger paper size. It's not. HP doesn't make 13x19 photo paper and this printer doesn't want to feed other brands. The ink consumption is high, but the ink cartridges are the same size as for smaller printers - a $60 set of cartridges is good for about 10 pics! When the ink cartridges are low, annoying warning messages pop up on the screen of my WindowsME PC and come back again as soon as I dismiss them (have to find the Task Bar icon, right click and pick EXIT) - this is Bill Gates kind of helpful! Right now I can't print or communicate with the printer because it's busy flashing low-ink error lights (on my 5550 I can get many good 8x10 pics out after the first ink warning). It's a fight to get a print every time I use this printer. If you like Epson colors (I don't - they're too red for me) get one of theirs. ... Read more

Ok printer for the price
I bought this printer 3 years ago. It works great. The only problems are: the power cord has a short in it, the ink is pricy, not enough memory, freezes up, and sometimes will print lines or it will smear. I like HP printers and think I will stick with HP for a long time. I am going to up-grade to the HP laserjet 4050N or 1300N because of our home network. I think this model has some defects but in the newer printers HP has fixed them.

Good prints... bad compatibility
I've had the P1000 for a couple of years.Worked great with WindowsME.After installing XP on my desktop I had to reinstall the printer software to get it to work.Just got a new laptop and it doesn't work at all.. in fact, the P1000 causes my Dell Inspiron to crash whenever I disconnect the USB cable.When the cable is connected the laptop never recognizes the printer.

I really liked this printer when I first got it about 3 years ago.Sure it was loud and a little slow, but it printed pretty good.Well, after about 1 1/2 years of VERY light duty, I all of a sudden start getting error messages on my PC telling me the printer is not connected to the computer.First I changed the cord to no avail, then I tried different open USB ports on my computer, so it ends up I just have to position the USB cable perfectly to the back of the P1000 to get it to work.At least it would still work, right? Well that got me by for about six months and now it just will not connect at all.Now my HP P1000 has a nice new home in the trashcan and I'm giving Canon a try.If HP puts as much thought into printers as they do computers I definetely don't want to buy another HP product again...

If you are looking for a home photo-quality printer (not pro quality- but good enough form me), for a decent price.This is your printer.
I can print 8X10's that come out with amazing results.I even use my scanner to print from the negatives and the photos print out better than my local store (I am not comparing to 1-hour development, I am comparing a local specialty store with an amazing reputation).
Just make sure to use (and of course set the printer) to high quality photopaper, and you will see amazing results.
I bought this printer a few years ago and have never had a problem with it.I don't know if the newer versions are better, but I can't say a bad word about this printer.

Money well spent!
I've tried two Lexmark printers: Z51 and Z53.The Z51 was so-so and the Z53 was pretty good.However, both sucked ink faster than Dracula sucks blood.

The P1000 prints incredible pictures without draining the cartridge as quickly as the Lexmarks did.

IMHO, this is the best printer you can buy for the price.Cartridges are expensive but refill kits aren't...and the refilled cartridges print as well as the originals.
