5-0 out of 5 stars perfect little printer
I purchased an earlier version of this printer last year along with my first digital camera. It is identical to this with one less port for memory cards. My camera was a 2 megapixel Olympus D510 so I did not intend to enlarge my photos beyond 4x6. This printer offered small size and ease of use, which appealed to me at the time. The printer does not need to be connected to a computer to produce high quality 4x6 images - as close to photos from film as you can get with 2 megapixels. I now have a three megapixel camera and the prints are even better.

This printer is so easy to use. Just plug it in, add paper, insert the smartmedia, compact flash, or memory stick into the appropriate slot, select the number of the photo you want to print, press the print button and watch a beautiful photo emerge from the printer. It weighs only 3 pounds and can be easily transported anywhere. I take it on vacation with me (in a soft sided, padded lunch box) and surprise my friends with instant copies of photos.

The are only a few drawbacks for this printer. First, photo paper and ink cartridges cost a lot so your photos will not be cheaper than outside processing. I try to purchase in larger quantities to reduce the cost and I use cheaper paper for less important prints. The second drawback is the inability to view the photo on the printer prior to printing. You'll have to jot down the photo's number from your camera screen. And, of course you can't crop or modify your prints on this printer, but that's not really different from developing photos at the store.

As for durability, as I said, I've had this printer for almost a year, have taken it everywhere, printed hundreds of photos and never had the slightest problem. It's a great little printer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great portable printer
I have been very happy with this printer and have used it often since purchasing it. The photos produced are sharp and clear, there is minimal set-up to begin using it right away, and no computer interface is needed, though there is software included if you like to do digital editing before printing. The photo preview screen makes printing without the computer practical and easy. The 230 stores in a bag roughly the size of the average camera bag which makes it easy to take to parties and family gatherings. For print quality, ease of use, and portablity, I haven't found a better 4 x 6 printer out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to tote and great quailty photos.
If you want to print a few high quality 4x6 photos on the spot without a PC, this is the printer for you. I recently attended a family reunion and before the punch bowl was empty everyone had a photo in their hand and a smile on their face. It is very easy to use. Just load any type memory chip and press print, or you can select the photo, adjust the contrast and crop the photo using the color screen. Get near photo lab results in a little over 2 minutes per photos.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad, bad, bad
I used this printer twice and kept getting "paper jam" although there was no paper in the printer. Had to send the product back. Wouldn't buy another.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good bargain, good pictures
Since I got my digital camera I'd just been saving everything to CD and not printing anything out because printing through a website gets so expensive! I'd rather just have my own little printer, as long as the prints are good. The prints from this are great, and although they smudge if you don't allow them enough time to dry, they are good quality. I can't speak to fading yet, because I've only had it a month, but so far so good! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The HP PSC 2110 is a multifunction solution for users who need color printing, scanning, and copying functions in one machine. And it's easy to use--even novices will appreciate the unit's intuitive buttons for the most common tasks.

Prints are sharp, with up to 4,800 x 1,200 optimized color dpi (using premium photo papers) and 1,200 x 1,200 input dpi when printing from a computer. Laser-quality black text prints at 14 pages per minute (ppm). The PSC 2110 can print borderless 4-by-6-inch photos, and its ink-backup printing mode completes the print job even if one cartridge runs out.

For scan and copy functions, the flatbed design accepts a wide variety of original documents, including books and 3-D objects. This model can copy at 14 copies per minute (cpm) in black and 10 cpm in color. Scanning with 1,200 x 2,400 dpi optical resolution, the PSC 2110 also features a one-touch front-panel scan button so users can easily share photos and documents by sending attachments directly through e-mail.

For users with demanding color needs, the PSC 2110 supports a six-ink color option, using the optional HP 58 photo inkjet print cartridge. The unit is backed by a one-year limited warranty. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied with this sub $ multifunction
Bought this a few weeks ago to replace an HP DeskJet (still worked but slow). I have been very pleased with it so far. Installed it on an XP system without any problems. As with most USB devices, be sure to follow the directions when installing. We use it primarily as a printer and also make copies. Copy quality is good and you can easily select fast, normal or best quality and copy in black/white or color - all from the devices control panel. Note that the 2110 does not have a sheet feeder. Also, remember to get a USB cable since one isn't included in the box.

If you're doing a lot of scanning, I'd suggest getting separate products. I've experimented a little with the scanner but gave up and used my Epson Perfection 1640 Office (a great scanner) instead which is faster, has a legal size bed and has a sheet feeder. If you're doing much OCR, you'll want to get a program like TextBridge Pro (under $) or if you're really serious, OmniPage Pro (around $).

I've been very impressed with the print quality - particularly on photos. I also have an Epson C80 and this printer does a much better job when printing on premium glossy photo paper. I purchased an optional photo cartridge (replaces the black cartridge) and printed some photos in 6 color - excellent quality - the dark areas of the photos are more natural and skin tones are better.

Several reviews have said the printer is loud - I would disagree. It does periodically "adjust" itself but it's not noisy. Paper feed is reasonably quite (much quieter than my Epson C80). I would probably turn it off at night if it was in my bedroom though.

The reviewer who said you can't put a used cartridge back in the printer is wrong. I did it today when using the photo cartridge without a problem. Perhaps he didn't get the cartridges back in correctly.

Few suggestions for improvement:

Separate tanks for the color ink cartridges (it uses a single 3 color cartridge and a black cartridge which can be temporarily replaced with a 3 color photo cartridge). We have printed several hundred color and black/white pages and haven't replaced a cartridge yet - although, for the last 4 days, it has been warning that the color cartridge is low. More accurate ink indicators would be nice.

In typical HP fashion, it only holds about 50 sheets of paper.

In summary, for printing and copying, I would buy this again without hesitation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for SOHO users.
I bought this printer for my home/office to work on weekends and spare time, plus an occasional home need. Of course I wanted an all around equipment that could scan - copy - and print. Didn't need it to fax since I can do it directly from my computer (scan to fax).
Given these dedmands and the low budget, I think this printer is great.

++ The output quality surpassed my expectations.
++ The speed is acceptable (It's not an office printer). Depending on the quality of the output, in draft for instance, the printer is really fast.
++ I can change the quality of the output either on the printer on the properties dialog box.
++ It has a very useful HP Control Panel software, that is quick to put up on your screen, from where you can decide to print, scan or copy on the click of a button.

-- The one drawback I found is that the drivers are not included in any OS, hence, you must be very careful during installation to install the software in the bundled CD first, before hooking up the printer. But then again, this only a one time thing. Overall, I am quite happy with this equipment after 6 months of use.

2-0 out of 5 stars Burned by scanner ribbon dragging
Well-I was happy with the printer, the fax-and i thought the scanner-but overtime just as another reviewer reported the ribbon cable starts to leave a smear on the bottom of glass. Don't buy this printer for scanning

5-0 out of 5 stars Above Average Printer.
I've owned at least a dozen inkjet and laser printers over years and the HP PSC 2110 All-in-One is one of the best. Installation with WinXP was painless, ink cartridge life is acceptable, speeds for printing and scans are good, and everything works as advertised. Printing quality is well above average. Scan quality are good. And the color or b&w copy feature is handy. The price is also very fair considering the print quality and features.

I've read the other reviews and feel some clarifications or corrections are needed. Ink use is not out of the ordinary. With the normal settings and a mixture of business correspondence containing occasional pictures, a few web pages here and there, and plain text documents, my ink cartridges last somewhere between 550 to 650 pages. Of course, heavy graphics consume more ink and plain text documents use less ink.

You can reduce ink consumption, and save money, by adjusting the print quality and paper type in the properties box. For example, different paper types use more or less ink. Tweaking the ink volume setting, in the advanced features settings, will substantially save ink. By adjusting this setting, I've gotten almost 1000 pages (mostly text with occasional small graphics) from a single cartridge, with only slightly lighter ink applied to each page (hardly noticable even if you hold it up to a regular page). You can also save ink by adjusting color saturation in the properties box.

For those talking about installation or software problems, I had no problems installing and the software has worked perfectly. Several mentioned the software wanting to re-install itself occasionally. I suspect this is caused by the printer not always being on while the computer is on. The driver maintains a constant link to the printer (it must to see the "start scan" button on the printer, for example). If the printer is off, the driver will often disable itself. If the printer is turned on after that, the software may not find a working driver and will attempt to re-install one (re-installing the software in the process). The solution is to leave the printer on whenever the computer is on.

For those talking about noise, this is not normal behavior. My printer is completely silent for hours on end after the initial startup. It will only make noise again, or reset itself, when it wakes from the power save mode. If yours is constantly resetting itself, look for something waking it up from the power save mode. By the way, contrary to what one person said, it does indeed have a power save mode.

Someone mentioned a problem printing envelopes. I've had no problem in that regard, printing everything from cheap Walmart envelopes to 24lb watermarked business envelopes. Another mentioned paper jams. Again, I've had no problems with everything from index card stock to cheap, very thin, paper.

Under miscellaneous, one or two talked about problems after a period of time or degrading performance over time. I've had mine for almost nine months with neither problem. The software still works perfectly and the quality of scans and prints are still as good as new. One person mentioned fuzzy scans. Make sure scanner alignment is done properly during setup or do it again if already setup. One person complained of no grayscale mode. This is turned on and off in the properties box.

This is a very good printer with many features and capabilities. Make sure to read the manual and help files, and take time to look over the software and properties box, to discover all this printer has to offer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Everything great... except the scanning....
Print, copy, and scanning editable text is exceptional. HOWEVER--

after 2 months of use the ribbon cable on the scanner leaves residue while dragged across the inside of the glass. After 6 months it becomes intolerable. I only scan about 4 pages a week, so I'm not even a high-end user, but I do expect high-resolution to be high-quality.

If you are planning on doing any high-res scanning, or scanning 8x10 images, your paint shop or photopaint skills must be well above par because EVERY PHOTO YOU SCAN WILL HAVE 1-inch wide FADED LINES RUNNING THROUGH IT. You will either have to scan both halves seperately and paste them together or paint out your lines. It even ruins greyscale photos.

You are not allowed to clean out the inside glass yourself, so you have to bring it in for service. Since it's not a malfunction, just a cosmetic thing, and in my area NO recommended HP service center had someone qualified to just open and clean the thing, you will have to pay to have it shipped out and back.

I found it cheaper to risk buying a new one by taking it apart myself, though if I can't put it back together it will be a different brand this time, no doubt about it. I have inspected it and am on my way to buy the proper screwdriver in a few minutes.

(UPDATE: Even after I took it apart to clean it, the residue won't come off completely. I've used three different glass cleaners and rubbing alcohol. It looks like it's gone, but on testing it still produces faded lines through my artwork. I also can't run it if I try modifying the ribbon so it will hang lower-- too short, it appears. I'm going to have to get a new flatbed. Sigh.)

I don't want that to scare you. If you just want a color copier, its perfect. If you need to scan editable text, it couldn't be better, even on 50-year-old magazine articles. If you're just scanning items for Ebay or family pictures for your friends at the normal 72 to 200 dpi, it will be great. If you're more interested in photo-quality prints from your digital camera and will only be scanning when you need a copy of something, go for it. The printing from the photo cartridge is super.

BUT, if you're looking for a high-resolution all-in-one because you know you're going to upgrade to scanning artwork or high-resolution designs, or are going to start creating an electronic reserve, don't be fooled by the 600-1200 dpi option. Yes, it does scan at that high a resolution, but you'll be fixing those faded lines. Get a seperate scanner. The flatbed I bought in 1997 does a better job, it's just not compatible with my new computer.

As it turns out, a friend of mine also got this model for Christmas. I had her test it for streaks by scanning with the cover open and she found the beginning of the line residue. I hope the rest of the owners have better luck than we did. So in short, if you want to scan something better than a color copy, beware. Look elsewhere. Bad design. The scanner is just a cheap bonus item stuck on top of really good printer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Massively impressive machine
I'm an unabashedly big fan of HP inkjet printers. I have found their color management drivers, not to mention their ease of connectivity, to be completely conducive to excellent output. The quality is obviously superior to HP's chief injet rival, Epson.

This printer is no exception. Aside from the somewhat obscure color cartridges (my local suppliers don't stock a lot of them because they're only used in three other printers), I've found nothing to complain about in the two months I've been using it.

The printer is truly whisper silent, and it's massively faster than my old HP 890. I print on odd sizes of paper, so I love the fact that I can now do special jobs without having to go to a service bureau to make tabloid and larger sizes. The onboard memory is sufficiently large to allow me to dump really complicated graphical files without tying up my CPU. As an example, a full-color, legal-sized flyer with multiple graphical layers used to take something on the order of 12 minutes to send to the printer and print. Now it's a matter of 3-5 minutes. True, some the speed increase is that this printer connects through a USB port, but I suspect that even if I hooked it up with the parallel connection, there'd be a massive improvement in speed. At any rate, I used to sometimes crash my computer if I tried to do smething else while a complicated project was printing. Now, nothing I do outside of starting a 3-D game will shake my system.

I cannot recommend this machine enough. However, you should take a look at the 1220Cxi version, just in case you need the added PostScript flexibility.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleased for the most part
I am very pleased with the quality this printer does with photos and other printing projects. However, It does not print well with thicker photo paper. The paper gets jammed even when using the feed in the back of the printer like your supposed to. It is very frustrating and wastes a lot of paper doing this. Other than that its a great printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I love this printer. Finally, a printer that can handle large format. I can do an 11 x 17 poster or you can even go larger if you have the paper. I'm also able to print pages to my 11 x 17 leave behind piece that I leave with clients. The visuals are crisp and clear and it's faster than any printer I've ever had in the laserjet category. But I couldn't afford a color laserjet that handled 11 x 17. So for the price, this one is awesome. I used to have my leave behinds done at Kinkos but now I do them myself. Even with the ink costs, I save a bundle. And with the double ink cartridge, I don't have to change it all that often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best printer purchase I ever made
I have used this printer for four years and it still works perfectly. I prints photos on photo paper beautifully. I love being able to print 11x17, and friends and family ask me to print for them. I use this printer heavily but have only bought new cartridges once in four years. I often print using the print quality of 'Fast'. The 'Fast' option looks like 'Normal' for most printing except photos. This printer was worth the expense. I also have an HP LaserJet 4L that is still working after more years than I can remember, and it's still fast compared to many newer printers on the market.

2-0 out of 5 stars Works great....but only with light weight paper!
This printer does not load paper properly if it is anything thicker than 6 mil. All of the nice Photo Papers that are a bit thicker and produce wonderful color, do not feed into the roller properly, and the top portions of the photos don't appear. The color is fantastic, but who cares if your missing part of the photo?
You need a JetPrint Server for the tool box to work...(an additional $200 item)and the drivers are very poor. Standard paper feeds properly, but after spending $400 for one that can "do it all", I can't afford another for my photos! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Hewlett Packard's 560 line of Jornada PDAs includes the 32 MB Jornada 565 and our 64 MB 568, members for the first batch of Pocket PCs to ship with Microsoft's new Pocket PC 2002 operating system.

On the surface, the Pocket PC 2002 OS looks much the same as the old OS. But there are a variety of enhancements to the stable of applications (like Word and Excel), new software such as MSN Messenger, added security and antivirus protection, and improved handwriting recognition.

The Jornada 568 features a CompactFlash Type 1 slot, so you can add more CF memory as well as hook up CF peripherals, such as modems or network cards. You'll probably want to expand on the memory front--64 MB is decent for a Pocket PC, but you always want more to play back any video or audio files. And CompactFlash memory prices have plummeted in recent months, making it an affordable upgrade.

The well-designed Jornada 568 sits nicely in hand, with a sturdy flip-up cover adding little to the overall weight (6.1 ounces without the cover and 7.0 with). The bright, 16-bit color TFT screen can be easily read from even sharp angles. While the 240 x 320 pixel, 3.5-inch diagonal screen isn't as large as some, it's big enough to keep you from squinting, even while reading books with Microsoft Reader.

Hooking the Jornada 568 up to your PC is handled either through the USB cradle (with a pass-through connector for the AC power adapter) or via infrared. In addition to the ActiveSync 3.5 software, HP includes Outlook 2002, Audible Player 2.0 for playing audio books, and MusicMatch for ripping and playing digital audio files. In addition to syncing up with Outlook files and directories, the Pocket PC versions of Word, Excel, and Media Player enable you to transfer almost any of your desktop files to the 568.

Powered by a 206 MHz StrongARM processor, the Jornada 568 can handle extensive multitasking without any slowdown. The bottom of the PDA offers four buttons for quick access to menus and applications--Home, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks--as well as a four-direction navigation pad and scroll buttons on the side panel.

The Jornada 568 also functions as a voice recorder--just press the red button on the side and talk away--with a built-in microphone and speaker. But the speaker, while adequate for the normal beeps and burps of the OS, isn't great for music playback. You'll want to connect some headphones to the Jornada and, unfortunately, HP doesn't include any.

The rechargeable battery for the Jornada 568 promises up to 14 hours of life and we were able to get right around that. It also features a light at its top that glows green when the PDA is fully charged, and also flashes to alert you to appointments.

With its power, expandability, and the new Pocket PC 2002 operating system, the Jornada 568 makes an excellent all-around workhorse palmtop. --J. Curtis

5-0 out of 5 stars What a marvelous gadget.
I bought my HP Jornada 568 on February 1, and waited more than two months in order to write a review not guided by the emotion of having such an wonderful invention the firsts days, but by the funcionality of the device. And I must tell that it is extremely useful.
The display is excellent, as with everything on this pocket PC. It works very fast even when almost every application is open; the design is so slim and light that is a pleasure to carry your Jornada everywhere; I think that is one of the most elegant designs in the market also.
The sound, with headphones, is excellent for music, even when it is obvious that listening through the tiny built-in speaker is not the best way to get the best sound quality.
The navigation through the internet is very good, but you must be aware that the effect in some pages is like if you were passing a magnifying glass over a book's page, because most of the internet pages do not exactly "fit to screen" (this also happens with large Excel files or complex Word documents), but even with that detail that is not inherent to the Jornada but to all Pocket PC's, is very useful and clear, because you can increase the size of the text in the page in order to a comfortable reading.
If you also plan to receive e-mail in your Pocket PC, the new operative system allows to receive HTML direct from the Internet, because it converts it to text format automatically, and that was a mayor flaw of the preceding OS.
The Word and Excel documents can be edited or created with easiness, given the multiple input choices the OS has to offer.
I highly recommend a Compact Flash Card of at least 128MB. This is not only for file storage, but to install the programs of your Jornada within the Storage Card and leting almost all the RAM for the applications preinstalled so you can get your device to run extra fast. The only flaw with this is that if you are using a CompactModem or CompactLAN in order to connect to the Internet, the programs that are installed in the CF card will not be available at the moment of navigation because the expansion slot will be already in use.
If you never had owned a Pocket PC, another recomendation is the Pocket PC Handbook, by Dan Hanttula. It is more than worth the price.
Overall, if you are planning to buy a Pocket PC and are not sure about which one to chose, do not hesitate anymore and pick the HP Jornada 568. You will be more than pleased and surely will write a review from your Pocket PC.
Accesories I own and recomend: Targus Stowaway Keyboard, Targus PDA/Keyboard Combo Case (Leather) (only if you use the keyboard very often), Viking CF card 128MB, Pretec's CompactModem and CompactLan (the Support Service from Pretec is superb) and the Pocket PC Handbook, by Hanttula.

5-0 out of 5 stars HP Scores with Jornada 568
The original HP Jornada Pocket PC's were easily outclassed by Compaq and Casio's models, but HP's engineers have redeemed themselves- and surpassed the competition- with the new Pocket PC 2002 versions: the Jornada 565 and 568. (The only difference between the two is RAM, with the 568 having 64Mb to the 565's 32Mb.)

These new models have the superior display and speed of the competitors products, but easily top the Compaq with built-in CF card expansion and replaceable, rechargable batteries that have longer life spans than the iPAQ. The included flip-up cover is also a plus and makes the Jornada the lightest weight and slimmest Pocket PC available with both screen protection and CF expansion built-in.

HP also thoughtfully provided a way for users to store up to 8Mb of data or programs in the secure FlashROM, assuring the security of vital material.

Besides the Microsoft Pocket PC software suite, HP's bundled software includes Code Wallet Pro and the versitile OmniSolve calculator as well as HP's own image viewer. This viewer is the best I've tried on any Pocket PC. My favorite bundled program though has to be Mobile Conversay. This easy-to-use program allows you to talk to your Jornada and receive spoken responses. Mobile Conversay will read your calendar to you, tell you the date and time, check your battery life, start and stop programs and more.

The Jornada 565/568 are easily the top of the new crop of Pocket PC's.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice PDA
This is a great PDA. It runs Windows 2002 Pocket PC Edition very well. I can play MP3's, use Pocket Word, and synchronize with Microsoft Outlook without a problem.

The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that the screen scratches amazingly easy. I always keep the thing in a soft case, and it's already scratched up pretty good. I have no idea how these little blemishes got there, but it is very annoying when the light is just right and they stand out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
This is a wonderful machine. It is compact and efficient. It is compatible with several database software products allowing for easy, on the road access to all types of information. It holds 1000 pages of text per MB of memory which makes travelling a breeze. No longer do I need an extra briefcase for my books. Currently, with just a 128 MB compact flash card as an accessory, I have 7 books, 13 audible.com audible books, multiple pictures as well as all my MS Outlook contact addresses, phone numbers, email addresses. Further, I can download and respond to my email from this little pocket-size phenom. It has never, never failed me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Transformed my life
I used to carry a laptop and a Franklin planner almost everywhere. Now, my Jornada and the Targus keyboard are all I usually need, unless I'm doing a presentation to a client. The Pocket PC is a marvel of convenience. Here are common things I do on my HP Jornada:
* All MS Outlook related activities (appointments, tasks, meeting notes, and contacts)
* MS Pocket Money: I get a receipt, and I enter it before I leave the location. No more piles of receipts to process at the end of the month so that I can reconcile my accounts.
* Pocket Word: keep my personal journal, jot down notes, write business documents, etc. The formatting isn't anywhere near as powerful as the desktop version of Word, but it won't take too many more features for this to be a highly functional word processor.
* Pocket Excel: Track mileage. Pocket Excel is a very basic spreadsheet, but it does a great job for simple spreadsheets. I expect future versions will be better.
* Download web pages for viewing: Using AvantGo, I routinely download the Economist, New York Times, CNN, and many other sites. And if I travel, I can download restaurant and entertainment info for the city I go to.
* Track billable hours: Using a great FREEWARE program for Pocket PC, I can track billable hours for clients, projects, and even activities associated with projects.
* Brainstorm: I use a mind-mapping Pocket PC program to brainstorm and develop mindmaps and preliminary project plans for myself and with clients.

* Listen to music: A 64MB flash card can hold a decent amount of MP3 files!
* Show off my new daughter: I have a digital camera, so I can transfer images of my daughter to my Jornada to show pictures to my friends and associates.

Additionally, with a Pocket PC, you can do many other things that I don't yet use the Jornada for, including edit and view PowerPoint files, edit databases, edit html files, edit images, send and receive emails, view live Internet, and watch mpeg movies. Great!

The screen on the 568 is much improved from earlier Jornadas, too. Not as much glare in sunlight.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Calculator for that Quick Calculation
Let's face it! If you are going to do a complex calculation, you are going to break out your PC and use MATLAB (insert your own favorite mathware here) where you can A) do the calculation right and B) not have a take a coffee break while your graphical calculator thinks.

But so many times a day there is that quick calculation you need to run. What you need is a basic scientific calculator that can handle any of those run of the mill number crunches.

I got my first HP20S as a science fair award when I was in High School and I used it for this purpose all the way to finishing my Masters in Engineering. I left my calculator behind in the lab when I graduated because I stupidly had used it for months wearing epoxy sticky latex gloves (the calculator worked fine, but who wants to use a sticky calculator). I have small hands and I was able to hold this calculator in one hand and make all necessary computation using only a thumb. This is a feature I sorely miss! Also, the keys would go "klick-it" when you depressed them so that you had very nice tactile feedback.

One caveat, I can only speak to the calculator in the image above, and not to any changes that may have been made. Mine was originally purchased in the early 1990's! But boy I miss it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable, functional and comprehensive yet Stylish
I have simply fallen in love with this one. There are just very few things that one can say are wrong with this calculator. In fact, i am really having to stretch my memory to find some faults in it.

Someone dropped a cup a boiling tea over it just before one of my major exams. It worked then, and is still working just fine. I love the feel of the keys, since they arent as feeble and non existent as the ones in some of the other ones. It gives you a solid rugged look.

Once you get used to this one, it is going to be very hard for you to switch to anything else. Trust me on this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Calculator but beware of the newer version
This calculator is a cousin of the 10B finacial calculator (now discontinued). It's a good calculator with good button feel and a lot of preprogrammed functions including stats. However, the newer models have the keys and faceplate markings written in new colors that are hard to see. The picture on this page is of the old version of the calculator. The colors on the new ones make the calculator much harder to use in my opinion. They seem to get lost on the brown background.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best calculator of its type
This is, quite simply, the best algebraic-notation calculator short of the graphical types. How is it superior? Let me count the ways:

1. It has a 12-digit display, but it's not limited to 12 digits. If it needs more display room, it will scroll.

2. It uses commas for thousands separators.

3. It has the easiest-to-use percentage calculations I've ever used.

4. The display shows "PEND" when you've hit an operator key (+, -, etc.) and it's waiting for the operand. This is great when you're doing involved calculations interspersed with thinking or looking info up. With other calculators, you come back from your diversion and have to think about whether you hit the operator key yet or not. Worse, some calculators change their behavior if you hit an operator key more than once, so you can't hit the operator key again without consequences.

5. It's built really well, and the keys have a nice tactile feedback.

6. There are several other nice features, but I'm running out of space. Suffice it to say, whoever designed this calculator knew how to make it pleasant to use as well as functional. Most other calculators are either too simple to be useful or too complicated to be useful. The HP20S strikes the right balance for me. I have two now and would buy a 3rd in a heartbeat if I could find one, just to have a spare, just in case.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best non-RPN calculator
I purchased my HP 20S about six years ago and have had no problems. The best features are the keys, key layout and physical durability. The keys are a hard plastic and have an angled profile which makes the calculator easy to use when wearing protective gloves. The key layout is very useful for quick statistical entry and calculations. The durability of this calculator is amazing. It has been through more than I would like to admit, and still functions perfectly. I prefer algebraic entry over RPN and would recommend this calculator to anyone considering a top-notch non-RPN scientific calculator for heavy laboratory use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Scanner
I bought this scanner a while back and I just absolutly love it.. The color scan on it is one of the best I have seen for a long time. It does good for black and white also. It's a little slow when it's scanning but for the money and the quality it does a great job. Buy one today you can't go wrong with HP period.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slow, but reliable
This was my first scanner, and in my opinion, a very well designed one. I remember that I was up and scanning the first day I brought it home. It even worked with my old 486 long after I got a faster PC. I'll admit that it isn't fast, but if you are only going to do a little occasional scanning (such as for Ebay) it is just fine. It hums and it grinds- but it never failed me.
The only reason that I finally sold mine was, that the cable connectors (parallel port) weren't compatible with my new Gateway (USB).

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my needs
After reading all the reviews on this product, I was not sure - until the store put this on clearance (newer models are out). It worked great the first day, then didn't the next ("cannot find scanner" message), but I contacted HP online and the next day got a help message. Since then it has given me no troubles. I realize if/when I ever update my computer, this will probably not work(I use Windows 98), but that seems to be the way with anything you buy nowadays - it is already outdated when you get it home. But for now, it does a great job and I am very pleased. (Still I wish it were "one touch", but that is the newer models.) Photo editing program seems to be okay-nothing great, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Scanner
This is a great high resolution scanner.I use this thing everyday and I have no problems with it.I love how the color and the hp scanning technology enhances your pictures which is definately a plus.Buy this scanner if you are using win. 98.

1-0 out of 5 stars HP 3200C
Any unreliable device is not worth any price.I got this scanner with rebates pretty cheap. However, I have had many connectivity problems."Cannot find scanner".It will work one day and not the next. The time I've spent trying to correct the problem, I should have just spent the money and got a better scanner. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Product ¿ With a Few Minor Drawbacks
Installation of this drive was quick and painless, which every step well-documented and all of the components you need available right in the box. The software installation presented no problems either, so I had everything set up and running in under half an hour.

After two weeks of experimenting with the drive, I have been very impressed with both performance and reliability. Some users have reported problems with writing at 10x speed and receiving constant "buffer underrun" errors, but I have not experienced either of these issues. Data, audio, and video CDs have all been created without any flaws, and I have found nothing whatsoever to complain about in terms of the drive's writing ability.

The software set which ships with the drive is exceptional, but I was disappointed to find that version 3.02 of Adaptec Easy CD Creator was bundled as opposed to the more feature-rich version 4.x. This isn't a major gripe, but audio enthusiasts will likely appreciate the automatic conversion of .mp3 files in the newer version. An upgrade is available ... but having the 4.x version right in the box would have been appreciated.

Another caution to music lovers is the fact that this drive does not support CD-Text, which means that you won't be able to store the artist and title information for each track on your CD-Rs. Again, this is a minor complaint, but most newer CD players support CD-Text, and those who are looking at purchasing this drive primarily for audio uses may find the lack of support to be a drawback.

So overall, if you're in search of a reliable all-purpose CD-R/RW drive, I would highly recommend the 9310i, but if you're primarily interested in creating your own music CDs, you may want to look elsewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great drive for the money
Got burned buying the first 2x HP writer back when this was relatively new technology. It made more coasters than CD's. This one, I'm happy to say, makes up for the former. Yes, it makes CD's and fast too! I don't think people will be able to tell the difference between 10 or 20x. It almost takes longer to start the burning process than the actual burning.

The feature that sets this apart most, however, is their Simple Backup program. As an Easy CD Creator user, I've been increasingly frustrated that they continue to ignore the obvious need to back up a hard drive. HP's program solves that problem quickly and efficiently with their program, it even spans across multiple CD's for you packrats.

I ran into a slight problem originally installing their software (common for Microsoft plug and PRAY users). Popped off a note to tech support and got a response in a week. Not fabulous response time, but probably as good or better as any other company. All I needed to do was a clean boot to get rid of all the additional junk loading up at startup. Solved the problem.

Only negative - they include an old 3.0 version of Easy CD Creator. If you have 4.0 you can uninstall theirs and install 4.0 into the same directory and it will work seamlessly with their other programs.

One thing to check out before buying is the new "burn-proof" technology or something similarly named that Sanyo has developed and is starting to appear in Plextor CD writers as of the time of this review. So far the reviews have been really positive and you may want to spend the extra cash for the technology. Otherwise this is the best writer at this price level (I paid 30% more just two months ago - man I hate that!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, fast and HP reliable.
No more japanesse junk for me, I decided to go back to HP and trow away my yamaha, just kept making bad burns at high speeds. With this one I have yet to have a bad cd. Very quiet and accurate, like it a lot. My yamah during warranty failed and no one even the distributor would give me a replacement. Just take it for fixing. DONT THINK SO, get me a new one or forget it Yamaha.
This HP is being burning since July and specially like the cool ventilation registers makes it look like a Hot Rod burner of some sort.
My cousin had his for over 6 years (a HP 4x2x12x ) and he recommended it to me. He was right it is plain good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Medium Burner
I got this burner about a year ago. At that time it was the fastest and seemed to be the best. Now it is somewhat outdated. The programs are old. I have messed up so many times trying to copy cds becasue of "buffer underuns". Considering data and making you own original cds, it is great. If you are considering buying a burner, go for some of the newer ones, that are faster but also because they have solved all those problems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good hardware, bad softwear...
This is a good burner overall; it is fast and easy to install. The only problem is the softwear that comes with it; its basic, weak, user-unfriendly, and has some bugs. After making two CD copies the computer crashes and you have to restart it; this happens every time. Making data CD's can be a hassle since you have to save layouts for every CD that you make otherwise the CD is not recognized. The help and tutorial section of the softwear is no help at all. If you get the burner, you better do you homework and learn all there is about burners, CD's and how it all works. Also you should buy a few extra CD's to practice on. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm confused, but satisfied.
I am an average consumer, not a PC expert by any means.I purchased an HP 9510i 12x4x32, installed it easily, and was able to burn a 20 song CD-R in about 12 minutes with the included software on my el-cheapo HP Pavilion PC.The unit failed though and I had to send it back for a full refund. The closest model they had in stock at the time however, was the 9150i 8x4x32.I figured I would lose a great deal of speed in burning CDs, but would save $50 on the purchase price, and decided to "settle" for this model. (While I waited for it to arrive, I happened to download a trial version of "NERO" off the internet.) I received the new unit, installed it in about five minutes and to my amazement, am now able to burn a 20 song CD-R in about 10 minutes!I highly recommend the 9150i. It was a breeze to install, and is idiot-proof when it comes to burning CDs.I guess I recommend scouting out some different software other than what it comes with, however.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst of the worst
This piece of garbage takes around five CDs to make one without errors. So if you buy a 50 unit spindle and you use this garbage then you can expect to take advantage of only 10 CDs, maybe less. It's simply the very worst of all. I had a HP CD Writer 8250i in the past and it worked fine, but I guess I was just lucky, because many people I know had problems with HP drives. I wouldn't recomment HP burners to anyone. Better buy Plextor, Sony, Yamaha.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD-Burner
Reviewer: Carlos from P.R. I bought this CDR for my computer.I found that the Hewlett Packard has the most features available, Excellent product, easy installation, and easy to use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous Customer Service
I purchased this drive in large part because of a rebate HP was offering at the time. (Don't worry the drive costs less now without a rebate.)

HP expired the rebate just one month after the last eligible purchase date.I called them and the just said 'that's just the way it goes.'

I know other companies use rebates as a gimmick to get a quick buck, but until now I have expected more from HP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never worked for Pentium 200 Mhz with 128 MB RAM
Even thoug HP says minumum requirements are Pentium 200 MHz with 64 MB RAM and Windows 95, it has never worked for me ever and ended up with returning. I tested with even 1X speed, however, it also caused error after a while in writing. HP's burning software doesn't tell much about the reason of write errors. It only says that CD may be dirty or scratched and destroyed ten new CDs of mine in that way. Reading was working fine, but writing was never successful. Troubleshooting support was not helpful at all. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA, if it never leaves the house
The computer actually works pretty well, is easy to set up, and fast enough for all the applications we're likely to run on it (including a full-featured implementation of Go). It's also pretty comfortable to use. With the security problems of wi-fi and other wireless options, and limited appicability of BlueTooth, the more expensive versions didn't make a lot of sense. It's not for FPS gaming, but it works pretty well.

Unfortunately, the glass touch screens are ridiculously fragile. Ours developed a crack across one corner of the screen after a couple of months of use, rendering it useless. Although there is no evidence that the unit was dropped (pressure fracture?), HP isn't even going to think about warranty coverage. Worse, they want about $15 less than the original price of the unit new in the box to replace the screen. I don't know how this compares to other PDA's, but this one is far, far too delicate to be a practical consumer item. Not recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect...
I've had the chance to try out HP's attempt at a consumer-friendly Pocket PC, and they have a winner. Nearly as small and just as light as a Palm V, HP has packed a top-notch screen and almost all of the functionality you could possibly want into a handsome 4 oz. piece of electronics.

Some thoughts:

* The battery doesn't last as long as Palm's, and you'll probably want to charge it at least every other day, every day if you use it extensively. You can get an extra battery, since the HP's is removable -- a real advantage in the long run, since you won't have to send the unit in for servicing a la the Palm and most other PDA models.

* You want MP3s, you got 'em. Add a 256MB SD card, and you're off and running. The unit does contain an annoying headphone adapter jack, but such are the tradeoffs of small size PDAs (Palm has a similar issue on the similarly priced Tungsten E.) It's not an iPod, but it'll do.

* You can also display small videos and pics, of course, but who really needs/wants to do this on a regular basis? I suppose if you are one of those annoying people who want to show everybody your latest baby photos, this will be just the ticket.

* There is no wireless functionality out of the box. You can add it later, but if you really are looking for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, you probably want a PDA with those features built in. That'll cost you, of course.

* Is there such a thing as too small? The buttons on this Pocket PC take a bit getting used to compared to the large and in charge buttons on the older, bloated iPaqs of yesteryear.

* Why so chintzy on the warranty? 90 days?! Take it from me, PDAs break. Their screens can crack, units freeze up, buttons stick -- basically, bad stuff happens. Seems like HP is trying to force folks to upgrade to the extended warranty. That is unacceptable support from one of the world's largest companies, and costs this otherwise excellent unit a star. (Palm offers 1 year, and I personally had near-instant turnaround on a Palm Vx repair)...

1-0 out of 5 stars It's nice while it lasts, but...
The four months I had this in working condition, it worked wonderfully well. I never had any problem with it. Unfortunately, that wasn't to last.

I had it on its charger while I was working and next think I know, there's a crack in the glass about an inch up from the bottom of the screen. I had never dropped this PDA, I was always very careful while using it. There was no reason for this to happen, and it did so without any outside interference.

And they really get you coming and going on this one. A replacement LCD screen with glass top (you can not buy the glass top alone for this model) is almost $200. That's about what the PDA costs in the first place!

Since this happened to me, I have seen where several other people have complained of the exact same thing happening to them. This is obviously a product default, and I would never recommend that anyone buy this model. I can't vouch for any of the other HP models, but this one is a definite waste of money. Don't take the chance.

1-0 out of 5 stars THe most horrible purchase you can ever make
NEVER EVER buy an iPAQ. I bought one, and what do you know, just one month later, I pick it up and the screen is cracked. I treat this thing better than I would a baby, and I did not drop it or do anything at all to it. So I call HP, they tell me to send it in, and what happens? They want $200 to fix it. Well, I thought that was obviously a bunch of bull since I had just paid $300 for it. Apparantly all the 19xx line is like this. If you buy iPAQ, you are a fool. They don't give a crap about their customers, I am 17 with a temp job, how am I expected to come up with $200 to fix it, I spent gd long enought coming up with the $300.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Hewlett-Packard 1935
I recently got an HP 1935. I was turned on by its cheap price, and since this is my first Pocket PC, I didn't want to invest in something more expensive. It's very little and light. Although it's not the fastes PDA on the market, I don't think there's really big difference since it takes not even a second for most things to load up. It lacks the Bluetooth which it has a Irda beaming thing. So you don't really need if you don't have anything else Bluetooth enabled.
My only turnoff is the screen. Already there's two scrates. I treat the thing like a baby. So I don't know how they got there. I recommend this PDA. But just be VERY carefl with the screen. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not too bad for a basic multifunction
Let's face it, this is a multifunction printer that costs under $150.

When you purchase one piece of equipment to do many things, you'll always be unhappy with at least one feature. For me, I needed a printer for my occasional printing at home (a few pages a week) that doubled as a fax. The copy feature and the scanner were pluses.

PROS:
- the HP software that allows one to send faxes straight from Word and create quick and easy cover sheets is pretty nice.
- the buttons on the machine are easy to use and not difficult at all to figure out. Want to copy? Press copy. Want to copy in color? Press copy, then color.

Photos print out alright, but I wouldn't recommend this as a photo printer. If you want high quality photos from your digital camera, use one of the online services or the machine at the store.

If you are truely considering some high level printing for a home office, don't buy this. If you do some printing, copying and faxing from home but use your office or some other location for the majority of your work, this is an excellent choice.

The install was no problem at all on my XP Home and Pro computers. Windows 2000 and Mac OS X worked fine as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars You Get What you Pay For
I bought this on sale at Staples for $99. It was a disaster.

I have always bought HP printers because they have been so reliable and well designed. This unit seems to be the exception. It smears ink all over the page on printouts, even after multiple cleanings. Sometimes a 20 page print job takes 20 minutes, someimtes five minutes. I don't know if I just got a lemon or if HP tried to pack too much into a small unit and all the units are prone to defective output.

On the plus side, I bought it for the scanner and the scanner semmed to work really well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate if you only have small print/scan/copy job to do
We bought the printer today, and the setup was very easy, except that we had a problem with the catridge alignment page test. We called the HP customer service. It seemed that the alignment was fine but the machine just couldn't detect the page - don't know what the story was, but the rep evidently didn't think it was a problem.

It prints really fast, with good quality. I am pretty pleased with that. The copy, scan, and fax functions all function well. But I realized that it has two majoy flaws and wondered what the engineers were thinking when they designed this model. The first flaw is it is not designed to have a flat bed for copying and scanning. It uses ADF. It is fine if you just want to copy or scan regular size paper, but if you want to make a copy of a passport, then you are in trouble. The second flaw is the output comes out in a reverse order. If you only print a few pages, that's ok; but if you print a big document, prepare to spend sometime re-ordering it.

However, considering how much we spent on this machine (...), I would say it is good enough for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed!
I bought this printer after my 5 year old Deskjet 930C died. I wanted an inkjet that had built-in network connectivity for use in my home network. I considered the Epson C84N, but it does not have a duplex accessory and the network connectivity is by way of a bundled print server device. Then I found the HP 5850. It had the features that I was looking for. It can be connected via USB cable, wireless 802.11b, Ethernet cable, or all three at once if you wish.

The out of box experience was very good. Plugged in the power, inserted the ink carts, and connected it to my router with a CAT5 cable. The first time it is powered on with the ink carts installed it goes through a configuration that takes 2 or 3 minutes. After that, the printer easily found an IP address using DHCP. Installation of the software from the included CD was equally smooth on both of my Win XP Pro pcs, the software found the printer and was ready to use within a couple minutes. Best of all, the duplex
