Amazon.com Product Description

Designed to maximize performance while minimizing expense, the HP Pavilion ze5730us Notebook PC is a solid entry-level mobile computer that features wireless connectivity and is ready for most typical light- to medium-duty notebook tasks. If price is your most critical parameter and you can do without heavy-duty power and amenities such as DVD burning, the Pavilion ze5730us should warrant serious consideration.

Running at 2.8 GHz, the unit's Intel Celeron CPU is the heart of a cost-efficient processing engine that also incorporates a minimal 256 DDR SDRAM main memory (expandable to 1024 MB) and an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics controller with 64 MB shared (not dedicated) video memory. You definitely won't want to rely on this system for 3-D gaming, 3-D graphics design or demanding business applications and multitasking, but it will suffice nicely for basic duties such as contact management, word processing, email communications, spreadsheets and the like.

The Pavilion ze5730us features a midsize 40 GB hard disk on which to store your programs and files, and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive through which you can burn and play audio CDs, archive files and watch the latest DVD movies. DVD burning is not supported in this stock configuration. The unit's 15-inch XGA TFT display will convey crisp, clean images to a maximum 1024 by 768 resolution, and its 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio chipset and integrated Altec-Lansing speakers deliver satisfying mobile sound.

Controlling the Pavilion ze5730us is a snap. The unit features a full-size 88-key keyboard with embedded numeric keypad, a Touch Pad with on/off button, and a dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad. Other amenities include three high-speed USB 2.0 ports for plug and play peripherals, a parallel port, serial port, VGA and TV outs, a 56K modem for low-speed e-communication, integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN for fast networking, and 802.11b/g capable wireless LAN for those times when you just can't plug in. The system does not offer IEEE 1394 FireWire or infrared connections.

Pre-installed software includes Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition operating system, Microsoft's Works productivity suite, Intuit Quicken New Users Edition financial center, and an assorent of multimedia utilities. At 12.96 by 10.72 by 1.79 inches at 7.5 pounds, the unit is of average size. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD LITTLE NOTEBOOK FOR THE PRICE
I bought this computer with the understanding that any computer I purchase will be old technology within one year. Purchasing this HP ZE5730US, I received a computer that had decent memory, the latest Windows operating system, DVD & CD-RW capabilities, and wireless technology capability. (...). How can you go wrong. After a year or two, I'll buy another <$1000 deal and get even more technology than the guy who bought the expensive version when I bought this one, and still I'll have spent less than him! This computer serves me well, I'm happy to not be tied to a desktop anymore! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Basics:
An excellent entry-level portable computer for students or "notebook lite" for businesspeople, the Toshiba Satellite A65-S126 Notebook PC delivers adequate speed, wireless communication and plenty of storage space at a favorable price point. If you want to play games, burn DVDs, or impress your friends with raw power, you'll want to explore one of Toshiba's other models, but for basic computing such as word processing, finances, Internet/email and CD burning, the Satellite A65-S126 is up to the task without breaking the bank.

Processor:
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today's notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU's on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, though these machines are usually noticeably larger and more power hungry than their less powerful counterparts. Intel's cost-effective Celeron processor often forms the basis for budget-priced machines, and the Satellite A65-S126 is no different. A 2.8 GHz Celeron powers the unit, delivering sufficient speed and power for general duty but not enough for serious multitasking, super-sophisticated business apps or the latest games. Power users would do well to check into Pentium 4-powered notebooks.

Memory:
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM). More RAM means faster computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The Satellite A65-S126 incorprates 256 MB of RAM, the bare minimum for the vast majority of today's notebooks and not enough for efficient multitasking. The unit does allow you to increase the amount of RAM to 1280 MB, but at extra cost.

Video:
CPU's are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). This system's graphics controller is an ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP with 64 MB of shared video memory. The Radeon name is highly regarded in video technology, and indeed this system and this chipset will efficiently deal with 2D graphics and do a reasonable job with simple 3D visuals such as those found in older games and entry-level 3D animation. However, it will not competently display the latest high-end 3D computer games and the like.

Display:
The unit's 15-inch TFT active matrix display is standard for midlevel notebooks. It is not a widescreen display such as those found in some of today's more pricey units, and therefore does not offer the panoramic perspective favored for movies. Its highest supported resolution of 1024 by 768 is also standard.

Hard Disk:
The Satellite A65-S126 features a solid 60 GB of hard disk space. This amount of data storage is surprising in a notebook at this price range, providing enough room for general applications and files and a small library of music or multimedia files too.

Optical Drive:
An optical drive is essential in today's computing environment. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs. With a DVD-ROM drive you can watch DVD movies. And with a DVD-RW drive, you can "write" home movies to durable discs and archive files to DVD (DVDs boast more than seven times the storage capacity of a CD). Some drives allow you to do a combination of all of these tasks. This system features a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive that supports all of the above apart from DVD recording.

Audio:
The system features an integrated audio processor that mimics the spatial awareness of surround sound through its two stereo speakers.

Keyboard and Controls:
You'll control your notebook via an 85-key keyboard with HotKey function and a TouchPad pointing device.

Connectivity and Expansion:
The Satellite A65-S126 offers a wide variety of ways to keep in touch, including a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up Internet and email access, an RJ-45 Ethernet port for high-speed wired network and Internet, and integrated wireless LAN for cordless e-communication at home, at the office or on the road via a local public hotspot. Other key amenities include three high-speed USB 2.0 ports for fast interaction with plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, and a TV-out port. An IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders) is not included.

Operating System and Software:
Toshiba has fitted the system with today's most widely accepted operating system, Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition.

Dimensions and Weight:
Notebook computers are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes and weights. Many of today's most powerful notebooks are also the largest, weighing ten or twelve lbs or more and therefore too big and cumbersome for extensive, continuous traveling. These are often referred to as "desktop replacements". On the other extreme are "thin and lights" or "ultra-portables", super-miniaturized units that typically aren't as powerful as their larger brethren but weigh as little as two lbs and will often fit comfortably inside a large purse. The Satellite A65-S126 is considered average by today's standards, at 13.2 by 11.7 by 1.9 inches and 7.7 lbs.

Power:
The system is equipped with an 8-cell Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery that delivers 1.5 hours between charges. This is not particularly efficient when compared with notebooks making use of Intel's Centrino technology and Pentium M processor, and is just slightly less than average even for most entry-level notbooks. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars HP Laptops Sucks -- Plsssss don't buy any of them..

- video drivers crash
- cd rom drive doesn't work
etc.. and many more..
And above HP Support is worst !! they don't even lilsten to you if u r out of warranty unless you pay them !!

Contact me if you need any more details.. but pls don't invest ur money in such useless product (Hp Laptops ..)

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
I bought this computer new becasue I was having some problems with my old Dell and was tierd of problems (it crashed, slow, etc.- signs of age, it was 4 years old). I have had nothing but troubles from this unit. I tried taking it back to Staples but they would not take it because I did not have the original box.

HP was my only hope. It was a nightmare. After being transfered to, literally, to 9 different people and having to give the same story every single time I was livid - I gave up. After a few day cooling off period. It took only 3 transfers the next time to get someone. I ask that they take it back and fix it. They would not, according to their policy, until they had tried to "fix" it over the phone.

It took 5 hours on the phone with their tech. support to format and restore the unit. The tech. support folk were very understand and nice but the fact is a computer should work right out of the box or it should be replaced no questions asked. When you spend over $1000 for anything is should work.

Working with Staples and HP has been one of the most frustrating experience in my life. I will never buy an HP product again nor will it buy anything from Staples.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hewlett Packard ze 5604rs
Needless to say, I do not see my NEW HP I just purchased on your amazon.com listings. I'm so angry at Radio Shack for selling this to me just before going on a Business Trip, & I'll be going there to expect them to return my money today. I truly feel I have bought a second hand computer. This is too slow and takes at least 10 tries before it will bring up the Desk Top, and then it claims there is no Task Panel. I do not even have WEB available on this, and after it freezes up, I want to throw it out the window! I'm not computer illiterate, as I own 3 others. I just wanted a new one! Thanks for letting me vent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Value, specs as advertised.
You will be hard pressed to find a notebook with more features at this price point. When put next to my P4 1.8 that this is replacing, the Celeron 2.8 absolutely Smoked it!

The screen is crystal clear and everything came as listed above.

GREAT UNIT!

1-0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL ! ! ZE5620US is not the computer described here.
I Bought a ZE5620US on February, and after have a lot of problems with the technical data available on site, i received a notebook with only 256mb of RAM, and Amazon's said : "Sorry, but your sole remedy is return the product and get your cash back"

The described notebook is in fact ZX5040US..
Amazon is able to delete my review, every day, but is unable to correct the technical data . . .

And now, i have a Celeron with just 256Mb of RAM . .
The notebook performance is terrible with so little memory . .
I will have to expend more 60 dollars to buy the missing module. ... Read more

The Basics
Compaq's new and exceedingly wide-ranging Presario SR1110NX series of desktop PCs targets most every segment of the computer buyer market -- from financially strapped students to high-power business executives. This model, the Presario SR1110NX, is an entry-level model that delivers basic computing capabilities at a rock bottom price. Demanding users and anyone who deals primarily in high-end multimedia or games will want to look at one of Compaq's upscale models, but anyone who prioritizes their budget should find the Presario SR1110NX exceedingly appealing.

Processor
Intel's cost-effective Celeron processor often forms the basis for entry-level machines, and the Presario SR1110NX is no different. What is different is the configuration of this particular Celeron. Intel's newest Celeron is named the Celeron D, a tricked up version of the venerable chip that offers 256KB of level-two cache (twice the size of current Celeron ships) and a 533MHz Quad Pumped Bus, a 33% improvement over traditional Celeron chips. The Celeron D in the Presario SR1110NX operates at 2.53 MHz, which would be considered a fast clock speed even if configured traditionally. Though it doesn't offer the power of Intel's Pentium chip, this is a strong entry-level CPU.

Memory
Compaq has partnered this processor with 256 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM main memory. This is considered today's minimal allotment of memory in a desktop PC. As such, the system is not an especially adept multitasker. Furthermore, with 256 MB rather than the 512 MB (or greater) in more costly PCs, the unit will rely more on the hard drive when retrieving information -- a slower process than if that data had been stored in "virtual" memory.

Video
An Intel Extreme Graphics video controller is integrated on the motherboard, featuring just 64 MB of shared (not dedicated) video memory. While perfectly capable of accurately displaying most 2D applications (word processing, Internet and email, 2D graphics design), the system will struggle to smoothly display advanced 3D graphics, animations, and many mid-to high-end games. A display screen is not enclosed, thus allowing you to continue using your current monitor or select from today's many alternatives.

Sound
Audio is produced via an audio chip integrated on the motherboard. This is a typical setup for budget PCs. Speakers are not included.

Hard Drive
The 40 MB hard drive sports enough room for an average home or home office situation or a student. However, if you maintain a sizeable multimedia or music collection, you'll quite probably need to upgrade this drive, occasionally transfer files to a compact disc, or add another hard drive.

Optical Drive
The system features a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive that allows you to play and burn audio CDs, archive files to a CD, and watch DVD movies. DVD burning, often used to backup large amounts of data or copy home movies to long-lasting DVD format, is not offered in this stock configuration.

Connectivity and Expansion
With six high-speed USB 2.0 ports at your disposal, you'll have plenty of room for plug and play peripherals and gadgets such as digital cameras and printers. Compaq has not included IEEE 1394 FireWire ports, most commonly used for fast data transfer from digital camcorders. Communication options include an integrated 10/100Base-T networking interface for fast Internet and network communication and a low-speed 56K dial-up modem. Two available PCI slots may be used for add-on audio cards, video cards, and the like.

Operating System and Software
Considering its affordable price point, the Presario SR1110NX features an impressive software package headed by Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. Compaq will also pre-install Microsoft's Works 7.0 word processing and productivity suite, Microsoft Money Standard 2004, Quicken New User Edition 2004, a one-year subscription to the MSN Encarta online information center, and a variety of multimedia and Internet utilities.

Keyboard and Mouse
A standard Compaq keyboard and Compaq mouse (with convenient scrolling wheel) are enclosed.

Amazon.com Product Description

NEC claims its Versa LitePad Tablet PC is the industry's thinnest and lightest tablet PC solution, and one would have a hard time arguing otherwise. Indeed, at just 11.68 by 8.82 by .59 inches and a mere 2.24 pounds (with external drive detached), the Versa LitePad is as comfortably portable as a conventional paper-based notepad. It's also exceptionally convenient, because it accepts two distinct forms of input. Users who favor traditional data entry may utilize the unit's compact QWERTY keyboard and function keys. The Tablet PC also lets users input data through "handwriting" with the included stylus, which they can use freehand sketch their ideas on the system's 10.4-inch XGA TFT LCD screen (1024 by 768 resolution).

As is the case with most ultra-lightweight tablets, the LitePad Tablet PC is not as powerful as a comparably priced notebook. However, featuring a 933 MHz Mobile Intel Pentium III processor and 256 MB RAM (expandable to 512 MB), the unit will easily handle most day-to-day mobile computing tasks. In fact, its 16 MB video controller is more powerful than that of most tablets, thus allowing you to better work with graphic-based applications. The system also sports a 20 GB hard drive for application and file storage and an external 24x-speed CD-ROM drive.

NEC has fitted the LitePad Tablet PC with a variety of useful amenities, including a mini 3-button USB optical wheel mouse, an internal mono speaker and microphone, three USB 1.1 ports for plug and play peripherals, a VGA-out for external monitors, and a Compact Flash card slot for Type I or Type II Compact Flash Cards. To help you keep you connected wherever you go, NEC has also included wireless LAN 802.11a and 802.11b connections. Pre-installed software includes Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC edition, Alias/Wavefront SketchBook Pro, Colligo Networks Personal Edition, and Corel Grafigo. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for scholarly research
As a PhD student, I spend a lot of time in the library and I need a light computer like this to carry with me while I look through books. This is perfect--since it's barely two pounds, you often forget that it's there. With the LitePad, my (now) hand-written notes, papers, and articles are easily within reach whenever I need them; there's no more wishing I had brought more papers with me from home and the like. My Palm used to fulfill a similar function, but I've stopped carrying it now that I have this. I was especially surprised by how accurate the note-to-text feature is: even though it's not perfect, it's still many times better than what we had before. With my handwriting at least, it has about a 90% accuracy rate (usually the words it misses are words in other languages, etc). This machine has changed my life for the better, and I whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone else in academia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eileen A. Epstein PhD
This is the perfect product for any psychotherapist. Taking notes on this is so much better than using a pad. All of each patient's sessions are in one place. Easy to download to my zip drive. I highly recommend it to any therapist out there. The only drawbacks to this model are the battery life and the need to get every available Windows Update since the software that comes with the tablet is not current. If your chair is near an outlet, then you are really set to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pricey but worth it...
I've been using the NEC Versa Litepad since it was first released several months ago, and it's a great machine. The word recog. software is probably about an 8 on a 10-point scale -- not as good as Transcriber on my iPAQ, but if I'm careful about penmanship, it is about 97% accurate (in fact, I wish I could load Transcriber -- would be easier and faster writing with better recognition). Battery life is very good -- I can take notes for well over two hours, and the larger stylus is easy to write with. It has a long cord from the AC adaptor that is mostly unobtrusive, so you can recharge and keep writing. Customers/clients don't mind the Tablet b/c it's slim and looks like a writing pad. Resolution is very good -- increasing font size and icons makes everything quite readable, especially when I'm writing quickly and trying to get speech verbatim. The keyboard is flimsy with poor key travel and spacing, but I rarely use it anyway -- I really use it as a "glorified PDA" mostly. Using a Compact Flash card is great for transferring data b/w machines. Comes with WiFi, but I haven't gone wireless yet. Plugging in a flash card with digital photos from my Canon automatically starts a slide show -- cool feature. Ethernet connection makes it easy to go online. The unit gets warm but not uncomfortable -- especially compared to Toshiba and Compaq's tablets. I'm getting 'burn in' in the lower part of the display -- bummer -- but it's not a big problem. Since I use it primarily for note-taking with clients, I haven't really put it through its paces or exploited all its capabilities, but I'm impressed so far overall and like it better than the other Tablet PCs I tried out (Toshiba, Acer, Compaq). I've also noticed that it takes less effort to write on a Tablet with stylus than with pen on notepad. I've owned two other NEC notebooks and always had good luck. Looks like they've produced another winner. It is pricey, but I notice it's already $700 cheaper than when I bought it when first released.

5-0 out of 5 stars great pc
I have had this pc for about one month. I really like it. The handwriting recognition needs some improvement but its incredibly portable and with practice it is very functional. I use PowerPoint presentations and the addon pgm "Ink" is incredible. The high price will limit the acceptance of this type of pc. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Basics
Compaq's new and exceedingly wide-ranging Presario SR1100NX series of desktop PCs targets most every segment of the computer buyer market -- from financially strapped students to high-power business executives. This particular unit, the Presario SR1120NX, is one of the least expensive yet most cost-effective models in the lineup, offering superior multitasking performance and quite a bit more storage space than its entry-level sibling, the Presario SR1110NX, for just a few dollars more. Demanding users and those who deal primarily in high-end multimedia or games will want to look at one of Compaq's upscale models, but anyone who prioritizes their budget should find the Presario SR1120NX exceedingly appealing.

Processor
Intel's cost-effective Celeron processor often forms the basis for budget-priced machines, and the Presario SR1120NX is no different. What is different is the configuration of this particular Celeron. Intel's newest Celeron is named the Celeron D, a tricked up version of the venerable chip that offers 256KB of level-two cache (twice that of standard Celeron chips) and a 533MHz Quad Pumped Bus, a 33% improvement over the norm. The Celeron D in the Presario SR1120NX operates at 2.66 MHz, which would be considered a fast Celeron even without the new and improved configuration. Though it doesn't offer the power of Intel's Pentium chip, this is a strong entry-level CPU.

Memory
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, though frequently accessed and recently accessed information is stored for faster retrieval in Random Access Memory. With more installed memory, your PC operates faster and permit more efficient multitasking. The Presario SR1120NX features 512 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM main memory (expandable to two full GB), which is considered an average allotment in today's desktop market. As such, it is perfectly satisfactory for most single task and multitasking assignments.

Video
An Intel Extreme Graphics video controller is integrated on the motherboard, featuring just 64 MB of shared (not dedicated) video memory. While quite capable of accurately displaying most any 2D application such as word processing, Internet surfing and 2D graphic design, the system will struggle to smoothly display advanced 3D graphics, animations, and many mid-to high-end games.

The system does not include a display screen, thus allowing you to continue using your current monitor or select from today's many alternatives.

Sound
The Presario SR1120NX produces sound via an audio chip integrated on the motherboard. This is a typical setup for inexpensive PCs. Speakers are not included.

Hard Drive
The unit's internal 80 MB hard drive is double the capacity of that in the entry-level Presario SR1110NX, sporting enough storage space for an average allotment of files and applications and a substantial music or multimedia collection too. But if you consistently work with jumbo-size video, 3D graphic and audio files, you'll may need to upgrade this drive or add another.

Optical Drive
The system features dual optical drives - a fast 48X32X48X CD-RW drive for playing and burning music CDs and archiving files to CD, and a DVD-ROM drive for playing DVDs. DVD writing, often used to backup extremely large amounts of data or copy home movies to long-lasting DVD format, is not possible unless you add a DVD burner.

Connectivity and Expansion
With five high-speed USB 2.0 ports at your disposal -- one of which is conveniently located on the front -- you'll have plenty of room for plug and play gadgets such as digital cameras and printers. Compaq has not included IEEE 1394 FireWire ports (most commonly used for fast data transfer from digital camcorders), though it has equipped the system with a built-in 9-in-1 memory card reader for accessing information stored on a wide variety of removable memory cards. This is a surprise find on a budget-priced PC. Communication options include an integrated 10/100Base-T networking interface for fast Internet and network communication and a V.92 data/fax modem for low-speed dial-up connections. The system's two available PCI slots may be used for add-on audio cards, video cards, and the like.

Operating System and Software
Considering its affordable price point, the Presario SR1120NX features an impressive software package headed by Microsoft's Windows XP operating system.

A standard Compaq keyboard and Compaq mouse with convenient scrolling wheel are enclosed.

Amazon.com Product Description

The Compaq Presario S6010NX-B is an affordable home computing solution for users who don't need a lot of bells and whistles. The 2.7 GHz Celeron processor offers a decently fast computing environment, perfect for word processing, family budget spreadsheets, and viewing multimedia on the Internet. It also features a CD-RW for burning digital music to disc, a 40 GB hard drive, 256 MB of installed RAM, and a bevy of pre-installed software to get you started.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 40 GB Ultra DMA hard drive (5400 RPM) is small in relation to other desktop models, and will definitely need to be upgraded if you plan on storing a moderately sized multimedia library.
  • Processor: The 2.70 GHz Intel Celeron processor offers fast and affordable performance which is perfect for everyday computing tasks--from making entries in Quicken to word processing to editing home digital video movies. It has a front-side bus (FSB) speed of 400 MHz and an L2 cache of 128 KB.
  • Memory: The S6010NX-B comes with a 256 MB built-in memory (DDR SDRAM, 266 MHz), which is calling out for more power right out of the gate. It has two memory slots in total, with a maximum memory expansion up to 1 GB (2 x 512 MB).

Sound and Graphics
The S6010NX-B features audio and video cards that are integrated into the computer's main board. The sound card uses the AC'97 (Audio Codec '97) standard. The video/graphics card--Intel Extreme Graphics--has up to 64 MB of shared video memory. It is suitable for basic needs, but it will need a better video/graphics card for professional design and graphics usage.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
For expansion, the S6010NX-B has two 5.25-inch external bays (one available), three 3.5-inch bays (one available), and three PCI slots (two available). It comes with a built-in floppy drive and the following external connectors:
