Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's amazingly powerful and affordable STR-DE897 delivers rich, clear sound for your movies and music--from the latest surround-sound movie formats to the latest high-resolution audio sources. The receiver pumps out 110 watts per channel across 7 main channels (left, right, center, left/right mid surround, and left/right rear surround) and has a dedicated subwoofer output for an eighth (the ".1" low-frequency effects channel). The receiver performs everything from Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES/Neo:6 surround decoding to Dolby Pro Logic II processing (creating 5.1 channels from 2), also offering 5.1/7.1-channel analog inputs to handle music from Super Audio CD (SACD) and DVD-Audio.

You get conveniences, too, like multi-room outputs that come with independent source switching, so you can listen to a DVD in the living room while someone else is listening to a CD in the kitchen. The supplied Remote Commander remote control comes preprogrammed for a range of devices, and it also learns new commands and has the ability to perform limited macro commands.

The receiver includes an FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets (20 FM, 10 AM) and a host of video inputs--5 composite-video, 3 S-video, and 2 component-video--to simplify switching between components and your television. The component-video inputs accommodate wide-bandwidth (80 MHz) high-definition signals and work well with 480p signals such as those from progressive-scan DVD players, while composite-video inputs are upconverted to S-video quality. A set of front-panel audio/video inputs includes an optical digital-audio input and facilitates spontaneous hookups with camcorders, gaming consoles, MP3 players, and minidisc player/recorders.

There's even a phono input for your once or future turntable--yes, they still make 'em and, yes, your vinyl will sound as good or better than ever. The unit's 3 stereo and 1 set of multichannel analog audio inputs simplify hookup of, for instance, a cassette deck, a VCR, and a high-resolution audio device that decodes formats like SACD and DVD-Audio. A total of 6 assignable digital-audio inputs (4 optical and 2 coaxial) accept bitstream feeds from DVD players, CD players, and other digital devices, while a single optical digital-audio out channels sound to a CD or minidisc recorder.

Digital Cinema Sound System is a group of exclusive Sony algorithms (the receiver offers 13 total) that represent a total re-thinking of home theater sound based on careful measurements of movie-production dubbing stages in Hollywood. Cinema Studio EX modes offer greater apparent distance from listener to screen and a full array of 10 additional virtual surround speakers.

Sound Field Link applies the last-selected sound field to an input whenever you select the input. For example, if you select STADIUM for the CD input, change to a different input, then return to CD, the receiver will automatically apply the STADIUM sound field.

Finally, Auto Channel Grouping helps integrate 5.1- and 6.1-channel programs with your 7.1-channel system. When a 5.1-channel mix is present, Auto Channel Grouping will route the discrete information for surround left/right directly to surround left/right outputs while adding a new surround back left/right channel. When 6.1-channel mix is detected, Auto Channel Grouping will route the discrete information for surround left/right directly to surround left/right output while the sixth channel is duplicated by both surround back channels (left/right).

3-0 out of 5 stars Mega Bass doesn't make a difference
I had my old Sony Boombox for 11 years & it finally gave out.I saw this one; it looked nice and had all the same basics as my old one.I needed a simple player & this one fit the bill. Many others look too "space age" to me.

When I got it, I put in a CD and it didn't sound like it had much bass.I turned on the Mega Bass & it didn't sound any different. At least with my old Sony you could tell when the Mega Bass was on.Because of the lack of bass I think it's an OK player.

I took my children to a local play gym/arcade, and they had the Sony CFD-F10 there. It sounded great!Sad to say, it makes me wish I did a little more comparing, the extra $10-$15 dollars seems worth it.

I found this to be of very high quality. The bass is too good and sound clarity is very good too. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars If it sounds too good to be true...........It probably is!
Being a dedicated fan of Sony Digital cameras for the past 6 years, I was dying to get my hands on the new DSC-F828. From all of the specs. I read prior to it's release I was pummped to go online and buy this camera. In fact as soon as they hit the site I bought one!!!! I could'nt wait for it to be delivered the next day and start reading about it and using it over the Christmas holiday vacation week. Much to my surprise I was very disapointed with some classic action shots I took during my ski trip. The white background of the snowy mountains with the sun reflecting off the snow generated the most hideous looking purple flares accross the photo. When I went to read the reviews at all of the well respected Digital Photo websites I quickly found out I was not alone in my observations. Plus I learned that the defects were running deeper than I thought possible.

To be fair the camera is extremely well built and very user friendly. I does take very good pictures. But just don't expect to use it in backlit or bright areas. I wanted so badly to keep this camera and over look the problems. But I did'nt want to be part of a cruel joke that Sony was trying to pull on it's loyal customer base.

Bottom line, I sent it back and received a refund. Sony definitely rushed this bad boy to market way to quickly. Be very carful and do your home work before [buying] this camera. There are several better alternatives available for the same or less $$$.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not one of the best, THE best digital camera to date
I have owned the DSC-505, DSC-505V, F707 and F717. I also have the Contax TVS digital, a Sony DSC-V1 and a Nikon D100. I don't know what the reviewers who mention the purple fringing and high noise are talking about. I have done very in depth comparisons with the Contax, the D100 and the old F717 and see nothing but brilliant performance! I spent the holidays at the Grand Canyon and shot several GB's worth on the F828 and the results are nothing short of AMAZING. I have even printed some 42" x 60" posters on our HP DJ800ps plotter which look so good that friends are constantly asking for copies for themselves. The manual 7x zoom is a HUGE improvement over the 5x electronic zoom of the f717. Of course the quality of the Zeiss T lens is nothing short of extraordinary. The fact that the camera can use CF cards as well as the MS is also quite a step forward for Sony. The build quality is first rate. One cannot possibly go wrong with this camera. Take my advice and consider the negative reviews as nothing more than sour grapes (probably from folks who can't afford the upgrade and don't want to see others who can have such a fantastic tool)! This camera is so impressive I bought a second one for the family!
But don't take my word for it check out images taken with the f828 (Steve's Digicam site has quite a few) and see for yourself what nonsense some of these reviewers are spewing.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it =)
I was apprehensive about this camera due to the talk of purple and other 'problems'. I've been using this camera now (july) since May and I've not had any weirdness or problems.
I was close to buying the Rebel-- but I went with the sony---
1. I now use this camera for video & stills-- No juggling two camera-- which is impossible anyway being a mom with 2 kids! result is that I'm taking way more video and more pictures than previously
2. great quality. i do blow up pictures and I needed the 8mp-- I do use the 5mp setting mostly
3. the macro is just awesome. i've taken some great close up pictures with this camera
4. I love the way I can combine media and flip between compact flash and sony stick.

soo-- no problems here =)

5-0 out of 5 stars HIGH TECH. AT REASONABLE PRICE!!!
I have owened this camera for approx.one month and have taken at least 250 shots +. The only bad photos out of the bunch were due non- auto program and my own incompetance. There is some noise factor @ 800 ISO but is easily corrected with "Neat Image ".
Purple fringing DOES NOT exist on this camera. I have blown up 8 1/2 X 11 pictures and zoomed to the max and saw nothing. I believe Sony corrected the problem with firmware early on, but, the myth goes on.

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A GREAT CAMERA
I BOUGHT THE SONY DSCF707 AND WAS VERY PLEASED WITH ITS PERFORMANCE. I BOUGHT THE DSCF828 TO UPGRADE TO A 8 MEGA PIXEL CAMERA. THE 828 IS A GREAT CAMERA. IT HAS NOT FAILED ME ONCE. IT HAS MANY GOOD FEATURES AND ONE OF THOSE IS THE 28-200 LENS. I REALLY LIKE HAVING A WIDER ANGLE LENS FOR TAKING PICTURES IN CRAMPED SPACES. THE OTHER IS THE CAPABILITY TO TAKE PHOTOS AT ISO 64. I LEAVE THE CAMERA AT THIS SETTING AND ADJUST THE EV TO GET THE LIGHT I NEED TO TAKE A GOOD PHOTO. I HAVE TAKEN NATURE, PORTRAIT, AND FAMILY PICTURES WITH THIS CAMERA AND THE PHOTOS SHOW DEEP RICH COLORS WITH FINE GRAIN. THE ONLY REASON I DID NOT GIVE IT 5 STARS IS BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE AUTO ZOOM. I HAVE HAD NO PURPLE FRINGING. AS LONG AS YOU DON'T SHOOT INTO THE SUN YOU WON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE PURPLE FRINGING EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT. IF YOU BUY IT, YOU WON'T BE SORRY, YOU'LL BE PLEASED. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Compatible with all MS cards; nice to have for PSP
I bought the MSAC-US30 Memory Stick reader because it's the one specified in the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) manual. It's the only reader that's completely compatible with all Memory Stick and Memory Stick Duo media.

The term "Memory Stick" by itself refers to the original Memory Stick flash memory card made by Sony (and a handful other manufacturers like Lexar, Sandisk and TDK)."Memory Stick Duo" is the second generation of Memory Stick, and it's much smaller than the original Memory Stick.Within each generation (MS and MS Duo), there's the standard media and the "PRO" media, which has faster speeds and is better suited for high-speed video devices, i.e., most of us (including PSP owners) don't need the PRO line of MS or MS Duo.To further complicate things, some Memory Sticks (original or Duo) feature the so-called MagicGate technology, which is a copy-protection scheme used only by Sony.

Ok, so this reader is the only one that can read all these Sony-proprietary Memory Stick formats.(The only other USB reader I know of that can read Memory Stick Duo is the Sandisk 12-in-1 reader, but that one has poor quality, slow speed and is not MagicGate compatible.)Which Memory Stick should you get? Here's my take:

1) If you plan to store Sony's ATRAC3 or ATRAC3Plus encoded music files (i.e., those ripped from CDs using Sony's SonicStage software, or those bought at Sony's Connect Music Store), you must use a MagicGate Memory Stick.

2) If you plan to use flash memory in the latest Sony camcorders or the Playstation Portable (PSP), you must buy a Memory Stick Duo card.(Think of MS Duo as Sony's answer to Secure Digital, whereas the original-sized MS competes with CompactFlash.)

3) If you use something that requires high-speed access (e.g., certain Sony digital cameras and camcorders), you should get a Memory Stick or Memory Stick Duo that's PRO-designated.

I know this is all very confusing, and it took me a while to figure out.In fact, the story doesn't end here; users of older Memory Stick cards know some of them used two separate memory chips inside a singular MS card.Anyway, e-mail me gadgester @t hotmail if you have any questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea!
Ok, so I go into Best Buy to buy this thing which I bought for my son and have no idea what it does. So when I get it home, he takes his Memory Stick from his camera and sricks it into the reader. He has to do a project for school so he saves his project onto the stick, takes it to school, prints it out, and he gets it. Good idea if you don't want to spend huge $$$ for flash drives. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars very good sony!
i bought this player a few days ago and it is awesome. i curently already had sonic stage 2.0 version on my computer and over 3,000 songs in my library. all i had to do is install the new software so that my hi md player would be recognized by the 2.0 software. it was very simple to do. then i just started transfering all the music that i wanted onto the 1gb mini disc. i did not finish cuz the storage is enormous. so then i just went on and played the song that were in it already. you can always go back and transfer more if you want to or try to fill the disc in one day if you have the time. the only thing is where do i go to buy more blank 1gb minidiscs? sony.com has them for $6.99 a piece but they do not ship to p.o. boxes. so for now i can use the 80 min minidiscs which can store 13.5 hours of music which is incredible cuz the other minidiscs players can only hold 5 hours and the sound is not as good as the hi-md player is a lot better. if you are looking for something not too expensive and do not want to be limited to memory card players or skipping hard drive players, go with this sony. you wont regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing
Very easy to use, works great, nice small package that is light and easy to take with you while working out or whatever. Easy to navigate, nice to have the 1GB storage, and is backwards with the cheaper smaller MD. Big thimbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it
This is a fantastic device. I love the fact that you can transfer music from your cd right onto the MD player without converting it to an MP3 (or similar file) first. Not to mention that Sony's proprietary ATRAC files have been proven to sound better than MP3s that take up more memory. The transfer rate is actually suprisingly fast. 1GB of disk space is more than enough to fill your head with tons of songs. Not to mention that the player is infinitely expandable since you CAN buy more disks. I bought this player on June 31st 2004 and was able to buy extra 1GB disks right from www.sony.com (no problem with availability either... and they shipped it to me overnight for the same cost as ground shipping). So ignore the hype about availability or lack there of and dive on in on machine. You won't regret it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but Pointless
This is a great player. Its compact and well designed. Sounds loud enough through headphones, and the menus are easy to use. Single battery lasts more than 25 hours and it uses computer power while downloading. The player comes with a 1GB disc which hold up to 45 hours of music. Sony seems to think 1 disc is all you'll ever need. There is no point in buying this player because 1GB discs are NOT available and Sony doesnt bother to say when they will be. All they say is that one comes with the player.
Also note that you cant be in a hurry with this player - it can take about 12 hours of downloading from your computer to fill the disc with music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome player AND portable drive
The player is on par with Sony's excellent track of Minidisc players. The new 1 Gig discs are awesome! They can take up to 45 hours of music. 7 hours if you are using the best quality.

The player increases the capacity of regular 5 hour Minidiscs to 13 hours! So you can more than double the capacity of your old dics.

Battery life is awesome. 30 hours or so with HD discs and 50 with older ones.

Best part for me, the player can be used as a portable drive! Only using HD media, you plug the player to your PC using the USB cable, and voila! You have a 1GB drive ready to use without installing any drivers! Just works! Best part, no adapter needed for the player when it's connected. The player takes power from the USB cable and does not use your battery while connected to the PC.

Overall, this player is awesome! I love it! Go get one :) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars HI-MD...
A couple negative things: if you use manual recording levels frequently.. it won't remember your settings once you power it off. That is a kind of stupid oversight but in most cases, manual recording isn't really needed. Secondly, I don't get sony's need for you to have to push 2 buttons to activate record mode.. My old Sharp MD would automatically go into rec standby after you pushed the record button.. the mz-rh10 immediately starts recording.. you have to push play + record + pause if you want to go into standby. What is up with that Sony?
As a player, I love it. The display really is perfect.. very clear, very bright. Navigation is easy with the roller button and makes editing quick and painless. As a data storage unit it's great. Just plug it in and instantly it's recognised as a removable drive.. plug and play simplicity AND it's powered by the USB port so even if you're out of juice it'll work for you.
The sound is perfect and it has an EQ that allows you to save presets if you are looking for something specific soundwise.
So although the negatives may seem like big deals, they really aren't. It's Hi Def digital amp comes through with beautiful sounding recordings, it's awesome looking, and it's fast.. so I personally feel like the positives outweigh the negatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally Sony has an IPOD Killer
I have always liked Sony's Minidisc format. Convenient and easily organized into collections. When my old one got stolen I looked at all the MP3s, IPODS etc, but all seem to have deficits- I dont need 4 million songs (are there 4 million songs?) The other big problem for my aging eyes are the displays. Too hard to read- but this display is Lucious!!! And despite other complaints the Sonic Stage 3.0 works fine (you just have to restart your computer 2 or 3 times during the install) You slap in the cd- it goes to the web and gets all the album info and diplays it in Electro Luminescent Splendor. Sound quality on highest quailty WAV is excellent, the compressed ATRAC 3 is less so, but I did get 45 songs on a 1 gig disk and still had 1/2 he disk free!!! The wav format is about 13-14 songs on 1 disk- to me the quality is worth it. This unit rocks!!! Get good head phones. Also the removeable rechargeable battery (hear that Apple?) is excellent with a backup power attachment that uses 1 AA battery so you are never stuck. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product for the Price
This is a great product. The price is awesome. I was looking for something to play my old cassettes and still be able to pop in a CD. It has great sound, even with some really old teaching tapes I listen to. It's not that compact, but it's very light and very portable.I would definitely recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Boombox!
I was looking for a cheap boombox for my office, and I really did not want to spend much money. I was looking for a boombox that had: CD, AM/FM Radio (digital tuning), and Cassette player. I originally bought Sylvania SRCD4400 for $39.00 + tax. But I quickly returned it and payed extra $20.00 for this Sony boombox and I love it.
1. The design of the boombox is sleek and easy to use. All the buttons are easily recognized and clearly marked (not so with the Sylvania!). The silver color is very nice, looks more expensive than it really is.
2. The sound is clear and booming. I was impressed with the reception of AM/FM radio stations -- the reception was clear! (Not so with the Sylvania model, couldn't get some of my favorite AM stations!). It is true however, as other reviewers said, Bass "mega bass" sound could be deeper. So if you like bass sound a lot, then this model may not be for you.
3. The remote control is easy to use. It has all the buttons you need to access the boombox. (Not so with the Sylvania model, no power button). HOWEVER, if you have thick fingers like me then you might have little trouble pressing the buttons. Remote control is slender and buttons are small. But it works well.

Overall, I am very happy with the boombox. I recommend to everyone who looks for inexpensive and quality boombox.

3-0 out of 5 stars a piece
things a piece of junk for a modern boombox.the buttons arent nicely laid out and the cd player can hardly play cd-r's without skipping.it would also be nice if the tape player had autoreverse.only thing i liked was the cosmetics and the price.it looks somewhat classy compared to the other boomboxes out there.most new personal stereos look like they were dropped off from planet mars.

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good...
I bought this unit so that I could have something descent to put in my newly remodeled room. It works as expected, although I would have liked something a little more compact, and the remote is a nice feature too (even if it is really dinky looking). My only other complaint is that The Bass could be a little deeper, and the sound could be a little louder, but I'd definatly recommend this unit to anyone interested in a quality boombox on a low budget...

3-0 out of 5 stars OK
I do not own this model---(I have a Sony CDFS22) mine works fine Gets distorted at volume 10 (max) NO REMOTE!!! Works with copied CDs. You can use it with Batteries (9 "D"s) or A/c cord.(lose it, must use batt.s
OKfor places w/o plugs, not good elsewhere. no graph. eq. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The ultimate digital audio/video recording device, Sony's versatile RDR-HX900 lets you record to a choice of formats (DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW) and even stores audio/video programming--everything from television shows to camcorder footage--on its internal 160 GB hard drive. Now you can record your TV programs to the hard drive using an advanced onscreen program guide and archive your favorite shows or movies to long-lasting DVD, dubbing at up to 24x normal speed (depending on your recordable media and your recording mode). There's even an IR blaster for satellite and cable-box control.

The RDR-HX900's compatibility with DVD+RW/+R and DVD-RW/-R discs gives you the widest selection of recording and viewing choices available. The recorder also incorporates several picture-improvement technologies, which you'll benefit from whether you're viewing from the HDD or creating enhanced DVD recordings.

An easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) grants easy recording from broadcast programs via off-air antenna, cable, or satellite receivers. When recording to the built-in hard-disk drive (HDD), you'll be able to record and store up to 204 hours--that's more than 8 straight days, mind you--of your favorite TV shows and movies.

The RDR-HX900 can record at HQ+ mode in the hard disk drive, which offers approximately 1.5 times greater resolution than the highest possible bit-rate recording on DVD. The HQ+ mode, along with Dynamic Variable Bit Rate, provide outstanding picture quality. It's especially beneficial when recording quick and complex-motion images or playback from the HDD.

The RDR-HX900 also provides hassle-free connection with compatible camcorders through its front panel i.Link interface (for DV/D8 connection and easy tape-to-disc content transfers). In addition to granting simple camcorder hook-ups, the i.Link (DV/D8) interface gives you operational control over the connected camcorder via the supplied Remote Commander remote control. You can even copy the entire contents of your DV or D8 tape by selecting the convenient 1-touch dubbing feature.

The recorder offers advanced editing features for content originating on camcorder tapes. The 2 basic options consist of either downloading the entire contents to a DVD disc and then editing the content in non-linear fashion right on the disc, or more traditional linear editing directly from tape.

The RDR-HX900 also features Time Base Correction, pre-frame noise reduction, and pre-video equalizer technologies that rebalance and equalize video content before it's recorded onto a DVD, improving the original source content even before the encoding process begins. In the output phase, the RDR-HX900 recorder combines frame noise reduction, block noise reduction, and video equalizer technologies to produce a rich and textured visual with minimal picture interference from background artifacts or distortion.

Finally, the recorder offers proprietary DVD playback technology called Precision Cinema Progressive, which incorporates Pixel-by-Pixel I/P Conversion technology to augment and balance DVD-video elements. You'll need a high-definition or HD-ready television to appreciate this process. A 12-bit/108 MHz video D/A converter ensures exceptional picture quality for an unforgettable viewing experience, while audio decoding occurs at an amazing 192 kHz/24-bits.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great laptop if you're willing to spend the money.
I was planning on picking up a laptop at the end of 2004 or early in 2005, but learned about Intel's new mobile chips that feature more cache. So I waited and picked this up from Sony, which has the Intel M 750 at 1.86 Ghz and 2MB of cache. It also has Intel's 915PM chipset, which is Intel's better chipset for mobile applications. It has a great screen and plenty of power and memory.

I also like the fact it has a new 128mb video chip from ATI (X600) that supports PCI Express. This laptop has 1GB of memory, which I would recommend since 512MB is barely enough today. The hard drive also has plenty of space at 100GB and seems to be fast enough running at 5,400 rpm with SATA interface.

The Sony software for audio and video and editing seems pretty good and I haven't had any problems so far. One thing, I have Office Professional, so I deleted the lame 60-day Office trial package that came with the computer before I could fully access all the programs in my Pro suite.

One of the big selling points of the computer is its excellent 17" wide screen. Out of the box, it looks very good and I haven't even tried to optimize it yet. I'm thinking that the ErgoBright technology, while good for certain areas since it automatically adjusts brightness, compromises maximum picture quality. This feature could be defeated. Generally speaking, these types of auto adjustment features are best left inactive when viewing movies. I find this to be the case with widescreen TVs also. The docking station and speakers are also a plus. Sound from the speakers built into the laptop is only average. I haven't tried headphones yet or the speakers that come with the docking station and I can't yet vouch for the quality of the laptop's internal sound. However, I might pick up an Echo Indigo IO audio pc card. Laptop sound quality is generally average at best, and this add-on card could be a nice upgrade.

This computer is also very quiet, relatively speaking, which is very important to me since I don't like noisy computers. Overall, it is a well thought out design and Sony definitely didn't skimp on the components. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony VAIO T250 vs T350
The T350 offers intelligent WAN, new memory configuration, and a cool redish color. But...if you don't want to log on to Cingular in the WAN offering choose the T250. While the keys are smaller than a normal keyboard, this 6'1" user finds them acceptable for fast typing. The 802.11g works great. And while I compare it to my HP at 2ghz the speed of the Sony seems just as fast. The touch-pad works well. The weight is fantastic. And the screen, while a bit small, is very very crisp. I am using 120dpi and large font size in IE. A little on the expensive side, but this little baby rocks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent but too heavy
We were trying to move it from the floor onto the TV stand. We just can't do it. Too heavey. If you are moving soon, you may want to buy a lighter TV. Quality is ***** though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional TV for the price
This model (along with its 34 inch sibling) was rated a best buy by Consumer Reports in traditional TV widescreen HD category. I have it plugged into my Cablevision service for HD signal - the step up in picture quality compared to standard signal is quite noticeable. But the good thing is that even standard TV transmission (non HD) produces very good picture on this TV (which was a factor in its best buy choice by Consumer Reports). The TV has plenty of video inputs of all kinds, including 2 component video and 1 HDMI.
I have my Panasonic S97 DVD player hooked up to this TV via HDMI input and this allows my Panasonic DVD player to upconvert DVD's to 1080i so I can watch them as clear as the HD TV. Granted that the DVD upconvert to 1080i is a Panasonic DVD player feature but you can't use it without having HDMI input on the TV.
According to the Consumer Reports review of HD TV's, most HD TV's produce great picture with the HD signal but the picture quality is not so good with standard TV signal. Since most of the programming on TV continues to be transmitted via the standard signal, this TV's very good performance with the standard TV signal was a big factor in my buying decision.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Wrong
This is as fine an HDTV as one can possbly buy at an affordable price. I have seen all alternatives up to 42-inch plasmas. This Sony equals or betters them all in image sharpness, color range, black level, and so on. Fed by my COMCAST digital cable box, I have been absolutely delighted with this purchase, and do not see replacing the set even if plasma prices fell by 50%. Yes, it took my son's help to lift it upon the matching stand, but what the hell, shouldn't one get 160 pounds for $850 (at Sears on a Sears card)?

4-0 out of 5 stars brilliant in comparison
first off, i got my set for 720 dollars, same price as the 27" 4:3 model. so i have no room to complain. obviously the quality and features wont match the 2 grand XBR series sony, but for the price and compared to its counterparts, its absolutely brilliant! very easy to use, enough audio/video enhancements and inputs. plus its a sony, you just cant beat its quality. pick this one up to start you off in hd, then in a few years, you can get the XBR when its reasonably priced! oh and also, didnt see much of a difference between the HDMI and component input running LOTR: Return of the King.

5-0 out of 5 stars Widescreen high-definition TV at an affordable price
Contrary to popular opinion, you don't have to buy an expensive plasma or LCD (liquid crystal display) TV to get a great high-definition picure. In fact, many experts (including Consumer Reports) assert that high-definition TVs using traditional cathode-ray tube technology -- as this high-definition Sony does -- currently offer a sharper picture than plasma and LCD TVs, plus they are much less expensive and more reliable. This widescreen HD Sony TV has a very good picture with standard broadcasts and an outstanding picture with HD broadcasts and DVDs. If you'd like to get a widescreen high-definition TV now but your budget is limited to a thousand dollars or so, please consider this 30" Sony. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good for voice, many features. Weak on my music.
Upon reading other customer reviews I bought this tape recorder. It is ok for voice recording and playback, but when I recorded my piano practice the playback sounded awful. Since I had bought it for that purpose I returned it. For voice it has a good tone and the machine noise is less than others I have heard. So, especially considering all the features including cue/review it is a good choice for voice recording.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Machine
I've had one of these since 1993. It's perfect. It's a tape player and recorder, and that's it.

It never jams on a good tape. It's perfect at what it does.

Being an audiobook lover I use it to listen to my books around the house and it has had a lot of use!

Unlike units that have CD players, the tape is the focus, not an afterthought.

Also, it's far superior to tape units that switch sides for you, because they often switch sides at the least resistance, not necessarily the end of the tape.

In summation, this is the tape audiobook listener's friend for reliable, no trouble, listening for hours and hours and years to come..

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice features, Nice Price, Nice Cassette Recorder
This is a very nice cassette recorder, that is loaded with features that most cassette recorders don't have anymore. It has microphone jack, ear jack, tape counter, sliding volume control(on side of unit), built-in very sensative mic, that picks up full-fidelity sound. Uses full-size cassette tapes, has full-auto stop; which means that it will stop in Rewind, Fast Forward, and playing or recording. Speaker produces good sound, with clear recordings. I recently recorded old 78 records, using this recorder, and placing it near the record player. It produced, very clear, full-fidelity recordings; even from scratchy sounding 78 records. It also has cue and review, that let you rewind or fast-forward to selections without pressing stop key. Comes with AC adapter, and uses 4 "AA" batteries. Recorder is simple to operate, but produces good voice or music recordings. It has ALC for perfect recordings every time, without making adjustments. Highly recommend this recorder. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony Clie TJ27 Perfect for beginners!
This is my first handheld. I absolutely love it. The hotsync worked perfect with my computer without a hitch. It is light, convenient and very easy to use!!! The stylus is very thin and a little uncomfortable to hold, but I wound up buying a stylus that was pen-like and fits in my case perfectly and works with the clie with no problem. The photo feature is really cool too. It is not the best quality, but hey, when you a need a camera quickly, just snap a quick photo with the clie. It is easy to use, you can store photos on the handheld or use a memory stick and it's very convenient! My tasks, contacts and calendar sync quickly and easily with Microsoft Outlook. I don't think it will work with Express, but you may want to research that. I do all of my work on the computer and then sync it to the clie and boom, there's all the info! This is a great choice for a first time handheld...

5-0 out of 5 stars Delighted first time PDA user
I researched PDAs fairly extensively before I settled on my Sony Clie TJ27. Well it has been about a month, and I am delighted with it so far. Originally I was interested in a Palm but was frightened away by all the negative reviews everywhere. My Clie came with free Dataviz software (upon registration of the product on the Sony website), including word, excel and "Slides to Go" (similar to Powerpoint) and I have had no trouble transferring data from files on my PC to my Clie and performing hot sync operations.

I've taken pictures (okay, you need to get fairly close to your subject with the 2x zoom limitation, but if you want topnotch photography, buy a digital camera). The only area needing improvement is the battery power. When you use the camera, it eats batteries faster than if you were just working with data. All in all, I love it and would highly recommend, especially to first time users who don't expect it to be their morning alarm clock (honestly, who would rely on a handheld for this); a top-notch digital camera or their desktop. It is what it is - a great value for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price
I had a Handspring Visor Edge and the battery died on me, so, I thought it was about time to upgrade my PDA. I purchased the Sony PEG TJ27. I was shocked on how easy it was to convert all of my calendar and addresses information from my old PDA to my new one. The jog dial is very nice and the camera is a nice perk. The camera does not compare to a real digital camera, but it is fun to have. I do think that I should have paid the extra $100 to get the PEG TJ37 with the sound and wireless capabilities, but overall I enjoy my new PDA and I am very happy with my decision. As far as battery life, I have not yet tested, but it does require a lot more charging than the Handspring Visor Edge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid, Reliable
The TJ27 isn't a terribly exciting PDA-it has no sound capabilities so it can't play MP3s or video (with audio)-even though the rest of the hardware is more than up to the task. What it does have is Sony's typically high build quality and reliability. The screen is excellent (and unlike most PalmOne models, it doesn't hum loudly, and the backlight can be toggled on and off).
The button layout is questionable. A jog dial sits between two left/right buttons in the location that most PDAs have either up/down buttons or a 5-way navigator. Depending on the program, the left/right buttons sometimes function the same as up/down buttons on older PalmOS models, and sometimes the jog dial and left/right buttons function the same as a 5-way navigator. The 4 application buttons are a bit too small, too close to the left/right buttons, and are connected together. (The calendar and address book buttons are connected, and the to-do and memo buttons are connected). So the layout isn't the greatest, but it does work okay.
The camera, as with all integrated cameras, is almost completely worthless, but since it doesn't really raise the price any, it's not a big deal.
System speed is excellent. The TJ27's 200Mhz i.MXL CPU (Motorola's ARM chip) benchmarks only 27% slower than Intel's 400Mhz xScale. Of course that power is basically complete overkill, especially since the TJ27 can't really play video, but programs like Documents to Go, and the basic PIM apps respond very quickly.

All in all, this is possibly the best "basic" PDA on the market right now. No audio, a somewhat strange button layout, but far better reliability than you'll get from other companies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
I replaced my Palm 105m with the TJ27 shortly after the first of the year. It's a good value for the $200 price tag. Of course, it has the usual fearures such as addreess book, calendar, etc.
I also like the built-in digital camera (the picture may lack some quality, but it's quite good for everyday use). I also can give the back light screens high marks. The only two negatives are the battery has to be recharged frequently and unlike the plam there's no free built-in games. For your everyday use this is a great little unit. One last thing - their customer support: once you finally get through Sony's stupid phone menu and speak to a real live person, they are friendly and helpful. I had a small problem with the Hot Sinc and they fixed it right away. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Listen to everything on this new Sony powerhouse
I've been buying Sony Disc/Walkmans for the past 5 years now, and I have to say, this is the best one I've ever purchased. What makes this cd player so great are the many features bundled in it.Not only does it play cds, but it also has an AM/FM, TV, and Weatherband (WB) tuner. Its sort of like an all in one, jack of all trades type of deal. You want music, you get it, and a lot of it!

Pros:
-It looks attractive
-It runs on one AA battery that lasts an extensive period of time
-It does more than just play cds & mp3s
-Bundled software allows nearly 490 songs to fit on one cd
-Controls are quite simple to use
-Pretty good price for so much stuff packed into one thing

Cons:
-No backlight. It'd be great to read the LCD in the dark
-No remote like the lower models
-Headphones are a bit fragile & weak
-Reception on the radio is a little hazy when indoors

Apple's ipod has nothing on Sony's walkman here. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome little printer
I spent a lot of time reviewing these dye-sub printers.I rarely print from a memory card, so that feature was not important to me.Watching this thing do its magic is a lot of fun!3 passes to apply color, then the last pass for the glossy coat.

I got it mainly for its portable size.It is tiny!Another plus is that it comes with a paper pack and ribbon.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the photos are a tad (just a tad) flat.I think it has more to do with the sony paper. My full size canon i960 makes a better print on the canon glossy paper.

Other than that, this is a fantastic little device!

5-0 out of 5 stars Aperfect painless picture printer....
I picked up my Sony PictureStation last week. I had also considered the Canon CP 220, but decided on the Sony after I saw the prints from one at a friends home.

Installation was very easy and all went flawlessy. Setup consisted of installing the driver to my computer and hooking up the power, and usb (remember to buy a usb cable)...then inserting the printer cartridge and paper. The printer has a very small form factor and takes up litle space on my desk. I was printing 10 minutes after opening the box.

The prints are beautiful 4x6 pictures. Prints take about 1.5 minutes and are smudgeproof and waterproof right out of the printer. I would compare them favorably to photo lab prints. Cost is around 40 cents a picture if you shop around online for the 80 picture ink/paper pack.

Sony includes a 40 count paper/ink pack with the Dpp-Fp30 which is a very nice little bonus that allows you to print right away without purchaseing extra supplies.

Printing is easy from a computer or from my camera using the pictbridge feature. I am very pleased with the Sony Fp30 and would recommend it to anyone who wants a simple easy way to print gorgeous 4x6 pictures. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good features-not so good sound
I found this radio rich in features which are useful, but I was disappointed in the sound quality. I have not tried the Mega-bass feature yet so the sound might be better with that on. Also be aware if you have the radio above eye-level, such as on a high dresser, the time display disappears.

2-0 out of 5 stars look at the Sony 837 cd clock radio instead...
...which is already available at the jandr dot com website, don't know why Amazon doesn't have it, I bought mine at Fry's.

Anyways this older 843 model is way overpriced, looks ugly, and has a low-visibility backlit LCD display. Its sound is also a bit weaker, my sister has this model and she doesn't even use the wake up to music function because she often will sleep right through it so she has to use the buzzer instead.Which kind of defeats the whole point of a CD and radio attached to your alarm clock, doesn't it? ... Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's D-EJ100 augments its great sound and extensive features with a stylish, blue, full-circle exterior. And at a mere .94 inches thick, this Walkman lives up to its name, traveling with ease in pocket, purse, or backpack. Playback options include 32-track programming, repeat (track, disc, or program), random play, and an amazing 50 hours of playback from a pair of standard AA batteries (not included). A clip-on remote makes it easy to operate the player while you're on the go, and Sony's "h.ear" clip-on headphones are designed for streamlined comfort.

"Active use" is a key phrase for this player: Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. The D-EJ100's heat-resistant lid helps protect the player against high-temperature build up, especially when you're using it outdoors or in a vehicle.

You can hook the player up with your home system through an analog stereo "Y" interconnect. Should your music require it, the Walkman's Digital Mega Bass Sound engages digital processing to enhance your music with deep, authentic bass tones.

Bookmark playback lets you program your favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button, and Sony's automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) conserves batteries--and guards your hearing--by capping your listening level at either of two settings. The player may be used with optional AC/DC power adapters (AC-E45HG or -E45A) or car accessories (vehicle power cord: DCC-E345 or -E34CP, car kit CPA-9).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD Player
Those of you who are looking for a really good portable CD Player, I would recommend this one. The sound is VERY clear and crisp, and the volume has a nice range that can go pretty high. I like the little clip-on controller that comes with it. I was confused at how to hook up the controller at first and there are no intructions anywhere on it in the owner's manual (that I could find), but I finally figured it out after awhile. So for those of you who may be confused also, you connect the controller into the earphone jack and then connect the earphones to a jack that is on the back of the controller. This is a very nice CD Player and great for the money, too, I think. I don't think you'd be disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Portable in town
I am a hardcore sony fan. couple of months back i purchased the vaio media player 40gb and wasnt very happy with that and i disposed it. but the NWE405 is amazing. i got it in the mail yesterday. let me tell u the features of this product

1) SOUND is simply superb. They have 3 sound settings u can configure and choose for ur songs. Volume is great too. u can adjust bass and treble.

2) LOOKS AND DESIGN is amazing. the display is superb. they have a calendar mode , 3 line display ( folder , song and artist and time) , a bubble screen saver and a folder info mode. the best display when compared to all the mp3 players today

3) the controls are perfectly positioned. u have to scroll up for next song and down for previous. can be used in complete darkness too.

4) the attached belt clip is sleek and simple. u can simply hook it to ur shirt

5) SOFTWARE is the only con. sonic stage is a very irritating software. i found another alternative. go to the sony website and check out the softwares for the sony vaio media player 40gb. download the vaio music transfer. that can be used for the NWE405 too. just simply drag and drop into the box.

SONY has grab the mp3 market if it promotes this player well.
overall the best player ive ever purchased. the IPOD shuffle is not even worth comparing to this player.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony NW-E405 Network Walkman - Review
Hey all,

I purchased this item this morning and i have fully explored its functionality. I'm simply very impressed.

Firstly it looks really attractive, looks being the first thing i notice about any walkman hardware. Every button is perfectly positioned on the player, most being at the right hand end on a control stick. The control stick is used for locking the player and also controlling the track navigation. Finally, the end of the control stick is where the headphone jack plugs in.

The LCD display is very compactly designed and is very smoothe in animation and navigation. Through this menu and the control stick you can navigate your library of songs by groups, namely artist and album. There is a display button which controls what is being displayed. The options are the track listing as default, a clock style track information display and a bubbles screensaver/animation. Note that the screen turns off after a short while to save battery.

The sound quality is very good and it has a couple of simple settings and two preset options. You can listen to the music in the default setting, which in my opinion is lacking in bass, but you can also adjust the bass and treble in the two presets. Then these presets can be chosen.

In the past i have found that the SonicStage software which is supplied has been slow and buggy. This is an irritation when importing large amounts of songs into the application. This is not the case with this latest version. Again Sony appear to have made it necessary for you to convert WMA files to the atrac format before transferring them to the device, although this is all done for you and quite hastely.

I have tried this device with Windows Media Player 10 and you can successfully transfer the music, but since WMP can't do the conversion it is unplayable on the device.

Lastly, i have discovered that this device can be used as a simple pen drive. Through windows explorer you can transfer any media to it you like. It won't be registered with the player, but just stored on its flash chip. I would also like to say that i recommend you buying some good headphones to add to and take advantage the good sound quality the device provides.

Hope this helps.
