5-0 out of 5 stars Is gullable in the dictionary?
I'm a chump! I signed up for one of those get-a-cool-Sony-TV-free "offers" that are continually being posted here.

Within one day, I received over 200 spam emails and 15 telemarketing calls. Arggh!. There really is something to the saying "you can't get something for nothing".

I hope everybody here can learn from my horrible experience and avoid these ridiculous pyramid schemes.

Sony makes great TV sets. It's too bad they're being used as bait by unethical people.

2-0 out of 5 stars CRAP
I bought my WEGA 1 1/2 months ago, and am now on my 3rd set.i'm taking it back tomorrow to get my money back and switched brands.

the picture has alway been bright and vibrant, but we consistently had distortions at the top and bottom of each unit we had = problem 1.

with every set - when a program goes to commercial, the screen is not black, but a charcoal color with faint white glow.this also is the case when watching a DVD.incredibly annoying = problem 2.

we had a tv repair person come out each time to tell us what we already new - that he'd have to take it into the shop to fix it.i mean, how absurd is that!a tv is only 2 weeks old and i'm supposed to pay to repair it!!!?

i will never buy a sony tv again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony KV27FS120 27" FD Trinitron, Excellent TV for cost
I bought the Sony KV27FS120 27" FD Trinitron WEGA Flat Screen TV
in early July of 2004 and haved loved it ever since. My family has always been a Sony product buyer, but there definately is no bias coming from me on this TV.

The picture quality is amazing for a non-HDTV.This is due to the digital comb filter that increases picture resolution. As for the AV component hookups, there are four of them, including an S-video hookup that greatly increases your DVD and Video game system pictures.

The sound is fairly good on this model, as additional speakers are not necessary, but definately would make your experience that much better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great picture - bad screen geometry
I've had three Sony TV's over the past 15 years - all wonderful.
As such, I immediately looked at the FS120 Wega in buying a new unit this fall. The picture color, contrast and detail are superb and the sound rich. But I noticed that horizontal banners such as those on CNN, ESPN and the TV Guide were wavy - curving up at the left and right sides of the screen and bulging up in the center. I thought the TV must be defective so I exchanged it for a second, then a third and fourth. I even changed cables and locations. All were unable to hold horizontal lines straight. I have two 4 year old Sonys with rock solid screen geometry. I also checked new Toshiba's - I didn't like the sound - but the picture geometry was fine.
This flaw is only really noticeable in news or informational programming, but if you watch these - note: current Sony FS120's have an apparent design flaw that may drive you to distraction.
Though I love them, I am returning my last Sony and will likely switch brands.

3-0 out of 5 stars Break out the service manual to bring this unit up to speed
I like a lot of the features about this unit, but folks interested in a really good picture will want to lower the red push and fix the 16:9 oversqueeze problem. To do these, you'll need a service manual (not the users manual you received with the unit). Not sure how much they are, haven't bought mine yet. There's a few places on the web that talk about how to correct these two problems, but they are for the previous WEGAs not the FS100 and FS120.

I have not heard the high-pitched whine, but I don't hear so well anyway. It's pretty heavy (my specs said just a few ounces shy of 100 pounds), but that doesn't matter to me, I don't lug it around from room to room ;). ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Crafted for style and built for power, Sony's 4-piece MHC-GX450 stereo is the ultimate party animal. The system packs a rafter-rattling 125 watts per channel across a pair of 3-way, dual-woofer speakers and a standalone powered subwoofer with an 8-inch woofer, so you'll never miss a kick-drum hit or a low bass note. You get a 3-CD changer with play exchange (so you can swap two discs while a third is playing) and compatibility with not only homemade CD-R and CD-RW discs, but discs loaded with MP3 music files, too. The dual-well cassette deck offers full-logic performance and the FM/AM radio boasts 30 station presets (20 FM, 10 AM) for ultimate tuning convenience.

A cool feature called Game Sync mixes the sound from the system's front-panel audio/video inputs with the sound of your favorite music--whether from CD, MP3 CD, cassette, or radio--so you're not forced to choose between game sound and music listening. You can have either one--or both. Maintain a composite-video connection between the stereo and your television, and you'll have instant video access right from the unit's front panel.

You'll find no cheap up/down volume buttons here--the MHC-GX450 sports an easy-to-grab, illuminated center volume knob that goes all the way up. Other great features include shuffle, program, and repeat CD playback, CD synchro recording, a bright, easy-to-read, color fluorescent display, and a Remote Commander remote control to keep you in full couch-potato mode.

Extensive audio processing enhancements include Sony's Groove bass enhancement circuit, as well as 8 preset equalizer curves with 3-band parameter adjustments to heighten the power of your music or tailor the sound for a specific location. Further, Direct AV EQ adds 16 preset equalizer settings that cater to music (Pop, Rock, Soul, Oriental, Dance, Jazz, etc), movies (Drama, Action, and Musical), and games (Arcade, Adventure, and Racing).

Direct A/V EQ also lets you store customized settings in three personal files. And, if that's not enough, the system even simulates surround sound for spacious music or movie effects. Finally, VACS (Variable Attenuation Control System) is designed to ensure superb clarity, even at high volume levels, preventing amplifier "clipping" and its consequent distortion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Angelic Sound (Angel's harp in speakers)
I bought this system of 400W to replace my 500+W system that ATE one of my CDs, and nearly damaged another. The tray-style changer has given out and none will open. It will only play CDs via aux input. Traumatizing. So, I went for a new system, this SONY, for many reasons, but one main was the carousel changer. MUCH safer. Regardless of other testimonials, I think the sound is so crisp and clear. The tweeters just give out the sharpest, highest cymbals, maybe even more so than a real cymbal. I forgot what clarity sounds like since I bought my last system based on power. Man, I found myself nodding to songs that I've already listened to hundreds of times. They are made anew by the clarity of this system. What a breath of fresh air, and a relief from nightmare systems. Now I have this huge, obsolete system to get rid of...

5-0 out of 5 stars It's an excelant stereo, I love IT!!!!
I purchased this stereo because i liked the fact of the bass, the watts, and importantly the sound. ITs a great stereo and i would buy it anyday, matter in fact ill buy another right now!!!! lol

5-0 out of 5 stars mmm i dont see anytrouble
i read an review here and decided to buy this thing..and what i figured was an awesome system!i think they are really quality products. some might want to decline it. but the facts are.. good. actually amazing!! dont even compare these products with your daddys half broken sony clock from 20 years ago. and guess it still works even you kept hitting it!!

1-0 out of 5 stars SONY GOING DOWN HILL!!!!
This system is no good the speakers on this unit are no good they are not clear at all they only give out low freqeuncy there is not good mids or highs. When I bought mine my radio was messed up Sony is making their products cheaper and cheaper lately and there is more defected products than any good ones. I don't see how people say this has a good sound to it i can see if you like speakers with alot of bass that is all this system is good for. The main speakers on this unit are no good. I say you should not buy this system. I gurantee you will find somthing worng with this shelf sytem trust me on this!!! Get a Panasonic shelf system they are alot clearer in their sound and plus they have 5 cd changers alot better than just three. I do not reccommend this product!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars wow, just......wow
I bought this stereo at Circuit City for $180 and the only complaint I have is that the tape player is kind of loud when you're switching functions, and the alarm is complicated, but i will rarely us either so I don't care. The sound is AMAZING and all the buttons are very simple and high quality (I was thinking of a similar Panasonic model, but it seemed like it was going to break any second) and what I liked the most was that you can turn the Subwoofer on and off whenever you want with just the push of a button and that it isnt all cladded with stupid bright-colored plastic, very simple and very nice, I am extermely happy with my purchase. P.S. and circuit city gives you a full year warranty, even if you buy it used ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Intermittent CD Player
I have returned this unit twice to no avail. It has an irritating flaw of not recognizing/not loading a CD and skipping its place in the tray. Sometimes it plays all five CDs, sometimes only one. Not what I expected from Sony.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sony's CDP-CE375 May Have Some Flaws!
My Sony CDP-CE375 5-disc carousel changer had a major flaw which may or may not be present in all their units. When loading a cd in tray 1 often the cd player would not drop the disc down into it's play position and therefore the front info. panel would say "No Disc". You would have to press "open" and then "close" it again before the cd player would then do it the proper way. This can be very irritating to say the least. This particular cd player does have remote control as well as a headphone jack. There are volume controls on the remote which allow one to control the volume when using the headphone jack. There's also a jog dial to quickly switch tracks. You can play cd's, cdr's and cdrw's in the unit. A cool function of this unit is that you can change discs while one is playing. Also, this player has digital optical out if you want to record cd's digitally from the player to a cd recorder. The sound quality is excellent and I had no problems playing back cdr's or cdrw's. A good unit if the above mentioned problem didn't exist. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's DVP-NS975V is a must for videophiles. The player up-scales standard MPEG-2 DVD-Video signals to full high-definition 720p or 1080i, a feature anyone with an HDMI-compatible TV can appreciate. Still watching analog TV? The player also handles your standard-definition (480i/480p) DVD-Video, audio CD, and Super Audio CD (SACD) entertainment--including playback of recordable CDs filled with MP3 music or JPEG image files.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any AV source with an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable.

The DVP-NS975V plays just about any disc out there, from DVD-Video to DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW, and its onboard processing technologies, like Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive de-interlacer and 3:2 pulldown reversal, make all of them shine. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p or 720p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines (at 480p) of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Precision Cinema Progressive technology uses a 12-bit video DAC (digital-to-analog converter) with high-bandwidth, 108 MHz processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. That makes this player's picture more faithful to the source--whether film or video--because it uses separate, optimized algorithms to handle different pixel behaviors. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.

DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 reverse pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

Depending on the disc, SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound. As an anti-piracy measure, the DVP-NS975V performs its own decoding of SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate multichannel SACD releases. Built-in SACD bass management helps you tailor the output level of the ".1" LFE (low-frequency effects) channel to your system, as an appropriate level may differ from the output level appropriate for Dolby Digital and DTS surround mixes.

If you're not planning to use the SACD capability for multichannel programming, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can also be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (1 each RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for simpler connection to a compatible receiver (multichannel analog and digital-audio interconnects are not supplied).

Precision Drive 3 provides a mechanism for reading DVDs that are in less than perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback due to imperfect, scratched, or warped discs.

DVD resume memory kicks in whenever you stop a DVD. Later, when you come back to it, the player will pick up right where you left off before. The player holds resume points for an impressive 40 discs. Other playback features include 10-second instant replay, DVD/CD Text display (with applicable discs), a digital video enhancer, digital video EQ (equalization), custom parental control memory for 40 discs, as well as Advanced SmoothScan and SmoothSlow Modes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nicely packaged, but...
... I recently came into possession of this baby as well as an HP iPaq 5550. It's been an interesting comparison.

The Clie is exquisitely designed. Everything fits together very nicely. The keyboard is large enough to be useful, and you can hide it when you flip the screen to tablet mode. The one gripe I have about the physical ergonomics is the location of the scroll wheel -- I wish it had been placed on the left, where the power button is presently located. Its placement underneath the keyboard can be somewhat awkward. I thought the screen would be bigger, but it's high resolution and quality compensates for its size.

I'm relatively new to PalmOS, so I have no point of comparison other than the iPaq I'm also using, which is based on Windows Mobile 2003. For good or bad, you don't feel like you're using a regular computer on the Clie -- the interaction style is rather different. I'm guessing this is a feature of the PalmOS in general.

The web browser NetFront, which I'd read rave reviews of, is somewhat lame. You can't control the font size, and bookmark management is not especially flexible. As far as I can tell the only thing you can do is create a long linear list of bookmarks -- no user-defined folders or anything like that. It's also darn near impossible to control the web browser from the keyboard exclusively -- I found myself switching between keyboard and stylus quite frequently, which was somewhat annoying.

The "entertainment" functions such as the still/video camera capabilities are merely toys. By no means are they a replacement for a real digital camera. Still, very handy when you need to take a quick picture of something for a report and all you have is your PDA.

I have not yet tried syncing to my PC, so I can't comment on that aspect of it. The wireless networking capability (802.11) works well. I had it up and running with my Linksys wireless router in a matter of minutes with WEP enabled. Connection reliability was very good; I never lost a link to the router when within reasonable range (this has *not* been the case with the iPaq, I might add).

All in all, a pretty nice device. Would I have spent my own $700 on it? No way. I could never justify that kind of dough on something so frivolous. But it is a very slick gadget for those who must have the latest and greatest.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony Clie PEG-UX50
The search for the perfect palm pilot has always been an issue. Many have features that others don't have, that making it complicated to get the perfect one. Finally, Sony has created a PDA that has every feature that anyone could ever want "The Sony Clie UX50".
This PDA has more bells and whistles than any palm powered handheld that you have seen. With its wireless Internet and its blue tooth, it is easy to connect to every type of compatible device and the cradle for charging would be the only thing needed to be connected physically to it. This PDA has crossed over into being more like a laptop.
The UX50 also has a spaced out keyboard, which makes it easy to type in all the information that needs to be typed. Also the UX50 has a swivel screen, which allows you to change the keyboard into a screen. The pda also allows for the left and right-handed user to be comfortable and also eliminating the High-resolution display not to be covered while you write.
The screen resolution (420x380) is better than any pda out. The screen will let you enjoy little movies with the memory stick pro, which goes up to a gigabyte. Also the screen will be perfect to view your pictures from the camera on the pda or other sources. This pda has hand writing recognition for those who like to write on the screen. Also it has an MP3 player and a voice recorder.
This palm powered device is surely one the greatest inventions in the land of the pda's. It almost goes into the realm of laptops. If you were to buy any palm pilot and didn't mind dishing out 650 dollars then the Sony Clie UX50 is the palm for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice toy.. definitely not worth the $
Bought a UX50 used off eBay. Have had it for about a month. I would pay 400$ max for a used one. Now that Sony has stopped the entire Clie line, you should find them cheap off the internet.

PROS:
- Nice keyboard
- Love the fact that you can listen to music at the same time performing other functions like browsing, email etc (probably an OS5 feature not restricted to this model only)
- The wireless works like a charm right out of the box.
- Great resolution.

CONS:
- Had to soft boot at least 3-4 times already.
- Most apps require portrait mode which the UX50 does not natively support.
- Battery life - 3hrs max if you use the wireless.
- Need an additional memory stick (128MB - 40$)
- Crappy camera - 0.3MP!!! cmon Sony!
- Native doc support restricted to read only.
- Need the docking station to charge, no direct connection to PDA.

Must have software:
- you can enable the landscape mode for most apps using Code Diver. This is a MUST if you want to use the UX50.

(shareware + 10$. Remember to use the latest beta and not the handango version)
- Also I strongly recommend buying Documents to Go and Contacts to Go (add another 75$ to the tag)

Overall, you can end up spending about 1000$ to make this thing really usable, not worth it. But if you dont mind getting a used one cheap off eBay, this is definitely a nice toy.

2-0 out of 5 stars A very unsatisfactory product
Having owned several pdas (palm IIIc, m130, tungstenE, & tungstenC), I was really wowed by the design of the PEG-UX50. I saw it first at Tokyo's Akihibara Electronics Town, and was impressed with the sleek design. The unit was functioning but mounted, so I didn't get to hold it. I was most taken with layout and functionality of the keyboard, and the swivel screen. Of course I was determined to buy one.

I waited two months until I was back in the USA and ordered two units from separate vendors. This is my usual custom when buying pdas, as I want to be sure one item isn't experiencing anomalies. I was so excited the day that they arrived. That excitement quickly dissipated.

The battery life is absolutely horrible. I was reading an ebook, and the battery barely lasted for 3 hours. When surfing the web, it lasts for about 90 minutes. The 3-D launcher interface did not appeal to me, so I switched to the classic palm launcher, which made things better. The stylus is too small and too thin to be of any practical use. By the time you get it out and get it extended, you could have tapped what you wanted with your fingernail several times over.

Additionally, the ergonomics are very poor. Maybe it's made for someone with wider hands than mine. It's too wide to sit comfortably in my hand in landscape mode, and there is no portrait mode. After reading my ebook for the three hours that the battery held a charge, my hand was cramped. Also, the buttons are not placed in the most convenient of locations. It's too easy to press the email, internet, or back button while you are just trying to hold the unit. And what's with the jog dial on the left? Probably a wonderful feature if you're left-handed like my little brother. Unfortunately, I'm right-handed.

The vast majority of the palm applications I downloaded did not take advantage of the UX50's wide screen. Who wants a pda window that only covers part of the screen? Certainly not me. In the end, I returned both units. One to Best Buy, where I was not charged the 15% restocking fee, and the other to MPSuperstore.com, where the restocking fee was waived because the IR port was defective.

I tried really hard for two weeks to like the UX50. I left my tungstenC and home and used the UX50 exclusively for that period. The only reason I gave the PEG-UX50 two stars is because the keyboard is excellent. I prefer typing on it than on my tungsten C keyboard. I was prepared to trade in my tungstenC for the PEG-UX50. It's little wonder Sony has withdrawn from the US pda market for a while. Maybe they'll dream up better products while they take this much-needed hiatus.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool gadget but uncool price
I've been using a Tungsten E for work and got the the UX-50 for play and was originally hoping to face out the Tungsten E.

They both run Palm OS 5 but I foung the Clie's interface not as user friendly as my Tungsten, it took me almost a week to get used to it and work with it without stopping to look up something in the users manual.

For the size and looks it is a very nice gadget, it's capabilities are close to that of a laptop unfortunately the price tag doesn't justify the purchase. For such a high price it should at least have Documents to Go installed.

The battery life is horrible! I got an extended battery which attaches to the bottom and makes the unit thicker and I'm still not able to use it as much as I use Tungsten during the day without worrying about the battery running out. I need to get a car charger before I can get more use out of it during the day.

The stylus is too thin to hold comfortably and it collapses in mid-use. It also tends to slide out very easily and I've almost lost it that way. Same with the memory stick, it sticks out from the unit just enough for it to come out easily.

The screen is very nice although I would appreciate it if you could occassionaly swtich to portrait mode. The swivel screen is one of my favorite features.

Not a big issue but I would like to be able to delete someapplications like "Clie Demo" that I don't use and are taking up space in the memory and in the icons.

The shortcut buttons are a nice feature but I immediately had to reassign them to features I use more than internet and e-mail. Their location makes it easy to press accidentally.

The built-in camera is better than that found in most cell-phones but not excellent. It comes in handy for quick snapshots but don't expect more from it.

The browser is lame and could use some improvement. It's nice to have a keyboard although it's not good for serious typing.

Bluetooth works great but the infrared interface was difficult to use when working with my cell phone.

This PDA has great potential but Sony has to first make some improvements before it becomes a "must-have". For 3 times the price, I thought this PDA would make my Tungsten E obsolete but I find myself still using it just as much because the Clie hasn't been too reliable to me. So I'll continue using 2 separate PDA's in the meantime. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera for the price!
After doing much research on the 'net and visiting every electronics store on the island, I decided on the HC30 and I am not disappointed. I've never owned a camcorder before, so I was worried that I'd have trouble using one, but Sony has taken away any hassle with its "Easy" mode, which uses automatic settings--great for point-and-shoot novice (read: wannabe) videographers like myself.

Pros: Size (this camera is tiny compared to other camcorders in this price range), Memory Stick MPEG movie + still image recording (perfect for e-mails + websites, but not for prints), bright 2.5" touchscreen LCD, good automatic settings, excellent picture quality, Super NightShot (a MUST for single CCD cameras used in low-light settings), analog-to-digital pass-through (for recording from a VCR onto your PC using firewire), Carl Zeiss lens (hence the excellent picture quality.

Cons: Menu navigation and getting to manual controls is not intuitive and can be problematic while shooting. The optical zoom is small compared to other cameras in this class (10x vs. 20x).

It's low-light performance is mediocre, but compared to other camera's I've researched and tested, the HC30 outperforms them all with its Super NightShot.

And for anyone complaining about the poor still image quality, I will say that this camcorder, and its stills were not meant for prints, but for e-mails or the 'net. It's a given that if you want good photo quality, buy a regular digital camera--even the most ambitious of camcorders usually only come with a one megapixel sensor, which is not nearly enough for crisp photos. Don't worry, this camcorder is small enough that you can still carry around your digital camera and not be weighted down.

I'm new to the world of digital video, but I'm an avid digital photographer and I've got to say that with its feature set and ease of use, I can readily recommend this camera to people who want no-hassles with good quality. Given it's pros (good auto settings) and cons (buried manual controls) it's obvious that this is meant for consumers and not prosumers, but with its excellent image quality and decent low-light performance, I think that even prosumers should think of picking this up as a good backup camera.

3-0 out of 5 stars its good but not the best
i bought this camera a month back, and found video quality is uncomparable but stills are not upto mark. i am a professional vidographer and editor in INDIA and purchased this camcorder for professional use but disappointed in stills.
software supplied are a total waste excluding still transfer from cam to PC with USB cable. i dont heard any motor noise as others had.
for night picture quality is not very good.
in total the camera is good for daylight but not for nights.

1-0 out of 5 stars Problems brand new out of box
I bought this camcorder last night. After charging the battery and attempting to use it for the very first time there was a warning on the screen "Dirty Video Head". How could that be with a brand new camcorder? I turned off the power, turned it back on, and the warning was gone. So I started filming, about 15 minutes worth, and then hooked it up to the TV to watch it back. Half of the recording did not even work~ all I had was a blue screen! The 2nd half that did record had thick grey lines running horizontally across the picture, as well as sound distortion (including the very loud motor noise others have mentioned!). I checked the troubleshooting section of the handbook and found that these lines indicate "Dirty Video Head" (again!) and that I would need to use an optional (not included) cleaning cassette!

This is unacceptable in a brand new product. I have sinced checked other review sites and found another consumer who had the same problem with their brand new Sony! This really makes me lose confidence in this company. I returned my camcorder today and will keep looking.

2-0 out of 5 stars medium quality
In short, this is a medium quality camcorder. The picture quality is not great, the recorder is picking up the motor noise and still images are completely useless.

The AUTO mode takes the picture or video very dark. You need to adjust the exposure for better picture or video.

You cannot do anything about the recorded motor noise. it is always there

You cannot print the still images taken with this camcorder (even in 4x6). So if you buy this for the still image, dont wasteyour money and choose with better or theonew/o still pictures.

The features are very limited per the canon zseriesof camcorders. Optical zoom is 10x, which is very limited in compare to 20x (Canon)

The software works but the VCD creation is very slow with the provided SW.

So in short, this camcorder does not deserve what is costs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, Not Great Software
I've been into DV for over a year now, I worked for a huge media site that did a lot of video crunching and encoding. So I'm not use to this bundled software. After a while of getting into the video editing again, I finally got the quality to come out good.

The thing that is important is deinterlacing the video if you're going to watch it on the PC. I couldn't figure out how to do this in the software bundle they gave you, and it didn't come out with a good resolution. So I went to www.adobe.com and downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, which is their newest version and is a great version.

Once I used that to capture the video and also used the deinterlacing features to deinterlace the footage, it looked great. The resolution is 720x480, which is standard DV resolution.

The reason I give this package 4 stars is because of the software bundle. It would be hard for a novice person to actually get this working. ... Read more

The CFD-ZW755 CD/radio cassette recorder sports a convenient handle so your tunes can go anywhere you do, whether you're blasting tunes for friends or listening in private through the supplied stereo headphones. The unit's CD player uses a one-bit digital-to-analog audio converter for pristine sound, and audio CD-R/CD-RW compatibility means the box will play your home-brewed music mixes as well as prerecorded CDs.

The CFD-ZW755 includes a digital AM/FM stereo tuner, too. Four electronic sound modes (rock/pop/jazz/vocal) let you tailor the sound for listening to various different types of music or in different environments, while Mega Bass sound enhances low-frequencies in any sound mode. Perfect for parties, the unit comes with Sony's Loop/Flash sound effects. Loop continuously repeat a few seconds of music, while Flash provides intermittent playback for a DJ-like stuttering effect.

With synchronized CD/cassette dubbing, CD playback commences just after cassette recording begins. The stereo record/playback cassette deck provides direct recording from either the tuner, the CD player, or another cassette. Other features include four-inch detachable speakers and 20-track CD programming. The unit runs on the supplied AC power cord or six D batteries.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the same old Sony...
Pro:

1) Doesn't look flashy and wierd like a lot of recent boom boxes.
2) Still working after 2 yrs. - nothing has broken (no CD playing problems).
3) Does a basic job of making sound.

Con:

1) Turns on mysteriously at night probably due to a neighbor's remote controller on the same frequency as my boom box or being triggered by some other random radio wave. (has freaked me out at times causing me to wake up in the middle of the night and get out of bed to turn it off - really freaky if the CD is playing my daughter's nursery songs.)
2) Setting radio station presets is not intuitive and simple.
3) Lacks decent bass sound relative to my Magnavox boom box, even with the "Mega Bass" activated.
4) FM and AM radio reception is mediocre. I live in Los Angeles with a lot of strong radio stations but some local stations just don't come in clearly without static.
5) Lacks the Sony quality feel that I used to know.
6) Price to high - should cost around $60 for what you get.

Bottom Line: I expected better from Sony given my past experience with their products.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of [junk]!!!
This is one of the [worst] boomboxes ever! This thing will just refuse to play most cd's. I've only had this boombox for almost a year and now already it acts real weird. Now when I put my disc in, turn it on, it spins my disc a little bit, it makes a weird clicking sound, the speakers make a strange buzzing sound, and then it stops spinning and says no disc. What the heck is with that! So then I thought maybe the disc was a little bit dirty (not even a scratch) wiped it off just to make sure, then I put it back in the system. It did the same thing (and these were regular store bought cd's!) Then I thought maybe it is just my disc or something. So I tried another one and the same thing happened. I tried reloading it about 10 times and then it started playing (thank god!) Then I walked over to it and pressed the next track button and their it goes spinning full blast, not playing right and then displaying "no disc" After about a month of putting up with this [junk], I sold it to my friends grandmother who mostly listens to the radio. She is happy with it because she likes how she can control it with the remote. Other than that the radio works pretty good and the tape decks work pretty good, but I still would not reccomend this product to anyone... If you want to get a better boombox, get a Panasonic, JVC, or something better. I'd hate to see someone put up with [what] I did with this [Boombox].

If you want to get a good boombox, take a look at one of the Panasonic ones. They are much more reliable and they sound even better.

5-0 out of 5 stars very good
this cd boombox is very nice and has a good sound system!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of features and excellent sound.
I like to play music -- mostly classical -- at my desk at work. This past week the volume control on my old Sony boombox broke (after nearly ten years of daily use) so I went out looking for a replacement. I was pleasantly surprised at the low prices of most of the units I saw, but they sounded rather tinny compared to the good sound I was used to from my old Sony. At the end of the shelf I found this model. When I inserted the CD which I had brought with me for auditioning, I immediately heard a clear improvement in sound over the less expensive models. In fact, the sound was even better than that of my old Sony with which I had been thoroughly pleased. I bought this model on the spot and the next day installed it next to my desk at work. It's very convenient too use, looks nice (compared to most current boomboxes) and sounds great. Sure it cost a few dollars more than the inferior-sounding units but(...) I'd say it's a great buy.

Incidentally, although I listen almost exclusively to CDs, this unit has two tape drives, which allow for tape dubbing (which a lot of cheaper models don't) as well as a digitally tuned AM/FM radio. Also the CD player has 1-bit conversion -- like the best CD players, but unlike most boomboxes -- which contributes to the better sound. As I said, it's a great buy.

3-0 out of 5 stars What ever happened to sony

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointment is always bitter...
These headphones produce great sound, but they make your ears bend in odd-looking ways. Expect to be laughed at, while wearing these in public, because I sure expect to.

The peculiar design of the grips only serve to make it difficult to put on. I spent at least a minute trying to get it right, and when I did get it, it still took about 10 seconds to put them on correctly! Not only that, but they don't feel right. I don't get that oblivious feeling, while wearing them, so it's annoying.

My advice? You'd have more comfort wearing the old MDR-G63LP model.

5-0 out of 5 stars Value for money (well, almost)
I got these a few weeks ago after months of hunting around for the perfect pair. I thought the price was a little to steep at first but after testing it I thought this might just be worth it. I chose these because I've always found earphones annoying as they keep popping out of my ear. The sound quality is superb for this type of headphones. It's also light and the clip does not hurt my ear after long periods. The problem with them is that it takes a bit longer to put it on because you have to make sure the clip is securely fasten behind your ear or it will come off. The caps are a bit loose and come off when I keep them in the front pocket of my backpack. However, I find these problems a small price to pay for the excellent sound quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For
These headphones are great. They are lightweight and compact. I can barely tell that I am wearing them. They are comfortable because a wire is all that goes behind your neck, no hard plastic. They are definately better than any earbuds. I had a pair of TDK earbuds that came with my MP3, but they hurt horribly! These are far superior, and worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars SONY STINKS!!!
Okay, before i start, let me say that i am both and audiophile and a gym rat. So when i work out or run, its all about the music. I also listen to a variety of music; from simple guitars and drums to electronica. This is why i need headphones that are perfect. However, im not loaded, so i need headphones that are AFFORDABLE and Perfect.
Well, sony has done it again. They've become one of those companies who simply believes that if they stick their label on an item it'll sell. Unfortunately, thats true cuz when i saw SONY on a pair of headphones for 19.99, i bought them. These headphones are not a good deal for the price. First, they have no bass ports (little holes on the side of the headphones) which are usually needed to provide rich bass. Second, i hate this sliding-clip design. Just make the headphones click into place sony!!! you dont have to be unique about everything!!! The only thing i love about these and other clip on headphones by sony is there single cord design; where the cord goes behind then neck from the left to the right earpiece and then a single cord goes from the left to the cd player. No one else seems to copy this design, so i end up buying sony.
If your not a big audiophile, these earphones deserve 4 stars. I think the same clip headphones from phillips for 14.99 at target are a better idea.

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent product
It's nothing to write home to mom about, but they're a good pair of headphones w/ no thing hanging on top of your head or behind your head (streetstyle) & you can let someone else wear them w/ no worries. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Expectations met.
This has decent sound for a clock radio and the display is large and bright. It has a simple appearance which I like. There are no birdsongs or gushing water sounds.

4-0 out of 5 stars not bad, but Amazon's Item Description is BS
...there is no digital tuner so no 5 station presets; no "birdsong, gushing river" or any other nature sounds; no headphone jack; and sure as heck no freakin' subwoofer (not that any subwoofer small enough to fit in a clock radio wouldn't sound like crap)!WAKE UP, Amazon, and check your facts!!!

However other than that, this is the best fifty dollar CD clock radio on the market (which says a lot about how sad the CD clock radio market is, at that). For one thing, it actually has a fairly attractive (or at the very least, inoffensive) form factor, compared to the gaudy-colored cutesy round models Sony and other makers have come out with in the past---are these industrial designers smoking crack or what?

Also I was impressed at how easy all the controls were to use---didn't even have to look at the instructions, it was that intuitive and also very ergonomic. This is about the main thing that Sony still does better than anyone else, provide ease of use.The green LED display is just the right size and brightness, and a big improvement over the horrible backlit LCD displays that many other clock radios have. There is an external FM antenna that helps somewhat---better would've been a detachable external antenna so you could hook up a better one to it.The adjustable "nap" timer is a very handy feature, as was the wake-to-CD alarms (2 of them) allowingyou to choose which track you want to wake up to on the CD.I just use George Winston's "Winter" CD, it's nice and soothing.Even the buzzer on this thing is fairly pleasant.

I bought this mainly because I was tired of being jolted every morning by my Phillips clock radio's air-raid siren of a buzzer, and also because my city (Houston) has the absolute crappiest FM stations you could imagine.

What I really wish though is that Sony, Panasonic and other audio makers would just start putting alarm clocks in their minisystems so you could wake up to some half-decent sound quality music. This Sony is still way better than the Timex (hopeless!), Emerson, and other cheap generic garbage that Walmart sells but what can you really expect from tiny 1 watt per channel speakers?

Keep your expectations low though and this clock radio won't be too bad.I still could never bring myself to fork over three hundred bucks for the Cambridge cd clock radio.

What I really wish this clock radio had:1.a 9V battery backup like my Phillips had, 2. having the CD, radio, or buzzer gradually increase in volume early in the morning, 3. MP3 capability (the box says it can play CD-Rs but don't know which format exactly), and ESPECIALLY 5. a headphone jack so that I could hook up this thing to some cheap self-powered computer speakers which would be a HUGE sound quality improvement.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the ads for this item
The description of this product claims it will wake you up with a buzzer, radio, CD, or "the sounds of birdsong or a rushing river".It also claims to have 5 station presets, which implied to me that it must have a digital tuner.Neither claim is true. The fancy wakeup sounds don't exist and the tuner is the inferior analog style with a big dial and pointer that really can't pull in a clean FM station.Needless to say, there are no preset buttons.

On a positive note, it's a pretty good sounding small CD player and the clock has nice big numbers. But I was hoping to have a nice radio also -( ... Read more
