Amazon Product Description

The Basics
An awesome roster of portable computers designed for those who won't accept anything less than the finest mobile performance, Toshiba's P25 series of Satellite notebooks will handle virtually any duty you might normally reserve for high-end desktop PCs. As powerful "desktop replacement" notebooks, they are somewhat bulkier and less battery efficient than today's new breed of ultra-lightweight notebooks. However, true power users will find the extra size a small price to pay for amenities such as high-end Pentium 4 processing, solid 3D graphic capabilities and massive 17-inch widescreen displays. This model, the Satellite P25-5263 Notebook PC, features all of the above plus DVD recording and a spacious 80 GB hard disk.

Processor
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today's notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU's on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, while others are quick enough only for basic duties such as word processing, email and the like. The Satellite P25-5263 lies firmly in the latter category, equipped with a blazing 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with Hyper-Threading. Hyper-Threading, a new Intel technology, allows a single CPU system (which most are) to behave at times as a dual CPU system, thus adding substantially more speed to some high-end tasks. Running at 3.2 GHz, this particular processor would be one of the fastest in any notebook, but it is nothing less than spectacular with its Hyper-Threading support.

Memory
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM) for faster retrieval. More RAM means more efficient computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The Satellite P25-5263 incorporates 512 MB of RAM, more than enough for most situations. Ultra-demanding users may want to expand their RAM, and with the Satellite P25-5263 they can, to a boggling maximum of 2048 MB.

Video
CPU's are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). This system's graphics controller is an nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 with 64 MB of dedicated video RAM. While a graphics card with 128 MB or more of video RAM is considered ideal for a completely smooth frame rate in state-of-the-art 3D games and 3D animation apps, this card is nevertheless comparatively powerful and more than enough for all but the most demanding gamers and 3D artisans.

Display
You'll love the way your DVD movies and 3D games look on the system's roomy 17-inch TFT WXGA display. Substantially larger than most notebook viewing screens, this display is especially notable for its widescreen format, the same panoramic configuration favored by movie-makers and some high-end game producers. And with a maximum resolution of 1440 by 900, you can expect super-sharp images no matter what application you're using.

Hard Disk
The Satellite P25-5263 features a massive 80 GB of hard disk space. This amount of data storage is a welcome perk indeed for those who want to operate a broad range of applications and also keep a large library of space-gobbling music and/or multimedia files.

Optical Drive
An optical drive is essential in today's computing environment. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs. With a DVD-ROM drive you can watch DVD movies. And with a DVD-RW drive, you can "write" home movies to durable discs and archive files to DVD (DVDs boast more than seven times the storage capacity of a CD). Some drives allow you to do a combination of all of these tasks. This system features a DVD-Super-Multi drive that supports all of the above in each of today's most common CD and DVD formats.

Audio
The system features an integrated audio processor that mimics the spatial awareness of surround sound, and two harman-kardon speakers for powerful mobile stereo output.

Keyboard and Controls
You'll control your notebook via an 85-key keyboard with 12 function keys, dedicated Windows keys support, and a TouchPad pointing device with scroll. CD controls include Play/Pause, Stop/Eject, Previous, and Skip/Next.

Connectivity and Expansion
The Satellite P25-5263 offers a wide variety of ways to keep in touch, including a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up Internet and email access, an RJ-45 Ethernet port for high-speed wired network and Internet, and integrated wireless LAN for cordless e-communication at home, at the office or on the road via a local public hotspot. Other key amenities include four high-speed USB 2.0 ports for plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, an infrared port for interacting with wireless peripherals, an IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders), and a digital (S-Video) TV-out port.

Operating System and Software
Toshiba has fitted the system with today's most widely accepted operating system, Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition.

Dimensions and Weight
Notebook computers are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes and weights. Many of today's most powerful notebooks are also the largest, weighing ten or twelve lbs or more and therefore too big and cumbersome for extensive, continuous traveling. These are often referred to as "desktop replacements". On the other extreme are "thin and lights" or "ultra-portables", super-miniaturized units that typically aren't as powerful as their larger brethren but weigh as little as two lbs and will often fit comfortably inside a large purse. The Satellite P25-5263 is definitely larger than average, yet more compact than many other "desktop replacements" at 16.4 by 11.5 by 1.8 inches and 9.9 lbs.

Power
The system is equipped with a 12-cell Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery that delivers 1.5 hours between charges. This is not particularly efficient when compared with less capable ultra-portables using Intel's Centrino technology and Pentium M processor, but is in keeping with standard desktop replacement battery longevity. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Toshiba 46HM94 Great exceptone thing.....
This Toshiba has a great picture and works great with my standard cable service. The only problem is with the cablecard and Comcast service. I have yet to be able to get the cablecard working with Comcast HDTV Digital service. The reason I got this TV was so I would not have to get a cable box. Comcast uses a Motorola cablecard and the Motorola card they provide does not work with this Toshiba model....three different companies not really working closely together make this difficult. If you don't care if you have a cable box I would just get a TV without the cablecard slot. Toshiba is working on the problem but this is very new for the cable companies so expect problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV for a great price
This TV has the HD2+ DLP chip, which is larger and has a much better contrast ratio than the HD3 chip. There are better chips that are just now being released (xHD3), but at a much higher cost.I bought this TV back in December and have NO complaints. It has performed well beyond my expectations. As the previous reviewer stated, I also upgraded from a 40" Toshiba rear projection CRT.I have had great luck with Toshiba, and saw no need to change to a different manufacturer.

I use a surround sound setup normally, but I have to say this TV has GREAT sound. The bass is pretty impressive. The TV fit nicely in our built-in bookcases. The screen does a good job at blocking glare and reflections from the lamps and windows.

The HD tuners pick up the signals very nicely. We live about 12 miles from downtown Nashville, but are able to pick up all the HD channels with just plain old rabbit ears.

I haven't been able to get a CableCard from Comcast yet as they can't seem to get it together. They never have them in stock, and after I was quoted $15 a month I really don't want one anyway.

My only complaint (very minor) is the TV only has one HDMI port on the back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great picture, with all the extra connections needed
This DLP HD set from Toshiba has a great picture! I upgraded from a toshiba 42" rear crt projection and will never go back to a crt projection display again! This DLP display is twice the picture. The color's are so vivid they jump off the screen! This TV also does a good job of cleaning up less than perfect signals. The HDMI connection really shine's when hooked up to the Toshiba SD-5970 DVD player. Well worth the upgrade to HDMI equipment. The onboard menus are easy to follow as well as fuctional. The two power level lamp is great, I am using the lower level and it is more than bright enought. The 1394 firewire ports are another plus, allowing connection to newer video equipment.

The only complaints are the channel changing is a little slow, I am using terrestrial HD signal, and I have not gotten the "TV Guide on screen system" to work yet.

The future of rear projection TV's is here.

January 12 2005
Problem with the built in "TV Guide" was resolved a couple days later. It just took more time to download the information from my local stations. TV is working great after 2 months. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so great
After a lot of research I finally got this Toshiba and it fits great for the space I had intended and looks OK, but I really dislike the picture colors. You basically have choice between too green or too red. I had to really soften and minus the colors and tint so I could have a picture that doesn't make all the programs look like animated cartoons. There is no temperature control and the blue is very intense and looks like it's separate from the rest of the image.

On top of that the remote is very unpleasant in your hand, non-intuitive and have some of the important buttons in subtle orange. I'm borderline reading glasses, but come on, I can read the TV guide fine but I cannot find my way on this remote!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good bedroom TV
We bought this to replace simalarly sized Sony that died prematurely. We also recently purchased a wide screen Toshiba so we thought we would try Toshiba again. The unit looks good and the flat screen is really nice.Picture quality is generally excellent. The DVD is full featured and convenient. We have had a few problems with "sticking" DVDs that otherwise seem fine. The remote is OK except for the orange labeling used on some of the dual function buttons that is almost impossible to read. The unit is a little big with the DVD player on the bottom and the speakers on the side. Overall, we are pleased with our purchase and glad we weren't seduced by a much more expensive LCD TV with an inferior picture. ... Read more

155. Toshiba SD-4900 Progressive Scan DVD Player

Amazon.com Product Description

Get the most from DVDs and CDs with Toshiba's SD-4900 single-disc DVD player, whose ultimate progressive-scan Super ColorStream Pro component-video outputs produce seamless, flicker-free images with high-definition and HD-ready TVs. This is every bit as much an audio player as a video player, with DVD-Audio compatibility and MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) decoding from CD-R/CD-RW. You can also watch customized digital-picture slideshows using recordable CDs filled with JPEG image files.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the SD-4900 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The SD-4900 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion. Conventional composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. The "expanded" mode in the player's black-level setting produces richer, deeper black tones in every image. PLUGE (Picture Line Up Generation Equipment) delivers black as well as below-black signals to a television.

DVD-Audio offers super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound. DVD-Audio discs provide multichannel and stereo sound, incredible storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. Because the DVD-Audio signal is too high-resolution for the digital-to-analog converters in current surround receivers (and also as an anti-piracy measure), the SD-4900 performs its own decoding of DVD-Audio signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate this feature.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each coaxial and optical) for direct connection to a digital AV receiver, and with these formats the choice is yours: route the surround signal digitally or use the same analog outputs you use for the DVD-Audio signal.

Playback options include 3-D DNR (digital noise reduction, which reduces random noise in DVD images by comparing each frame of information to the previous and succeeding frames), bookmarks, a powerful 16x picture zoom, and parental lock.

EAM (Enhanced Audio Mode) offers three audio-enhancements: "normal" mode equalizes regular digital-audio signals; "3-D" provides virtual surround sound through Spatializer N-2-2 circuitry; and "Dialogue" enhances the center-channel frequencies when you're playing Dolby Digital-encoded discs via the D-R1's analog audio outputs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best DVD player ever!
Wow. This DVD player is awesome. I have had it for almost a year and it has never let me down. About the Progressive Scan problem, I read the instruction booklet about it. You need a Progressive Scan compatible TV.
I love all the features, and the remote layout. All the music features rock, and the 3D surround sound is great!
I recomend this product to anyone looking for a High-Quality DVD player.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Player for the $
After trying a DVD-R full of MP3's in almost every unit in the store, this was the only one that could read it. I had first bought a Sony and returned it because it could not read DVD-R's with MP3's on them (very few players can). This Toshiba reads everything! It will also ramdom play MP3's if you want (another thing the Sony couldn't do). It also plays VCD (some players don't support VCD). This unit also has a few very cool features like "Auto Play" where it will skip intos and commercials on DVD's automatically!! The picture and sound are excellent. All this for $69! I'm very happy with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product, unfairly slandered by morons
I've had this player now for about 4 months, and it's been great so far. Very clear, accurate color, and fast response. Layout of the remote is a little wonky in some respects, but i've come to expect this as commonplace with most players.

Seeing the negatives some people are mentioning, however, I feel compelled to defend this player, as it's getting a lower rating than it truly deserves - largely due to ignorance.

First, concerning the "booby trap" issue. It's not a trap, it's progressive scan. If you don't have an HDTV, PS isn't going to do much for you anyway! If you try to set the player as PS, and your television can't handle it, of course your display is going to bug out for a bit. If you check the manual, however, this "trap" is mentioned, and it's resulting fix to reset the settings. People are saying "good luck" like Toshiba is to blame for this, when it's simply the result of people hitting buttons and selecting options that they don't know anything about.

As for the time/chapter display, this is shown on the front panel of the unit - just like virtually *any* player out there. The reason you can't simply pause the player for hours and leave it in the same spot is more a matter of liability control on the part of Toshiba - doing this is BAD FOR YOUR PLAYER. It's bad for any disc-based drive.

To finish this up, this is a great product that displays audiophile quality in *certain* areas. It has it's warts, such as the remote, but has been almost perfect throughout my experience with it. If you know how to operate a DVD player without selecting stupid options and mistreating the unit, this one is great for you.

If you're the type of fool who fries their previous DVD player, complains about not being able to read the front panel properly, or can't figure out how to display the remaining time on a disc, then by all means...stay far, far away. From all electronics.

4-0 out of 5 stars Booby trap fixer upper
I had the same pro scan problem with this (otherwise excellent)Toshiba DVD player, but it's not difficult to correct. The instruction manual says to press the 'stop' button to turn off the disc you're trying to watch, then press and hold the 'stop' button for at least 5 seconds. The Toshiba screen saver should then pop right up on your TV screen. Good luck... it worked for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed Emotions
I have played with this player for about a week now. It's a nice player for the money but barely. The only major issue I encountered was that for me, the vcd's play in 16:9 only. So on my 16:9 enhanced tv it looks stretched and bad. My Apex does what it should on all vcd's and svcd's. This one just doesn't want to listen. Another issue I had was that you could only set progressive scan on and off in the menu. The Apex I own had it on the remote itself. Speaking of the remote, the layout is HORRIBLE. Buttons are just thrown everywhere. The main reason I purchased this player was for the region free mod. There are lots of movies out there that we don't get and can only import. It is lame that they can't just play on any player you have. I read the review "Blank Screen Booby". In it, they write that Toshiba booby trapped the player by not allowing you to restore the default video settings. I don't think you should write a review when you don't read anything. 1. The manual tells you not to turn on Progressive Scan if your tv is not compatible. 2. If you do manage to do such a thing anyway on page 14 in the bottom right corner it tells you how to set the player back to the default settings. I could not find the booby trap you speak of.

If only my Apex AD-2500 was region free. It would be the perfect player for me.

I would hold out and try to find a better player. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Get the most from DVDs and CDs with Toshiba's SD-3950 single-disc DVD player, whose ultimate progressive-scan ColorStream Pro component-video outputs produce seamless, flicker-free images with high-definition and HD-ready TVs. Built-in MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) decoding let you compile music on a PC and listen to it on a stereo or TV, and you can even watch customized digital-picture slideshows using recordable CDs filled with standard JPEG image files.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the SD-3950 stands ready to deliver the full potential ofDVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The SD-3950 also performs 3:2 pulldown.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (coaxial) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. The player's internal digital-to-analog converters work at 24-bit, 192 kHz resolution to ensure optimum sonic quality from a range of digital program material.

Enhanced Audio Mode (E.A.M.) offers three sound settings: normal (off), 3-D (virtual surround sound enhancement), and dialogue expander (which enhances center-channel frequencies in the range of human voices during playback of multichannel content). Other playback options include Power Picture Zoom (which lets you magnify a select area of an image), bookmarking (up to nine marks), and parental lock.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for the price but BAD in Heat tolerance
Basically, I finally broke down and bought a DVD player because Teh PS2 was choppy, and I was tired of Getting up from my couch to control the DVD playing software on teh Computer. With that being said, I decided to purchase a cheap DVD player just for the heck of it. As for teh quality of the equipment, I have a mixed review.

The Good:
1. It comes chock full of features
2. Progressive Scan
3. Multiple Formats including MP3, VCD, etc.
4. The Price

The Bad:
1. The Control is hammy. The buttons are tiny, (Could also use a backlight).

The UGLY:
1. This is the type of equipment that doesn't tolerate heat well. This means that if you do not want your pictures to pixilate, or video to freeze totally, You MUST NOT HAVE ANYTHING SITTING ON TOP OF IT. To the touch, the unit's cabinet feels hot to the touch on the top for the entire surface. If there is nothing on top of it, the unit works fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD player with Toshiba quality and performance.
Toshiba makes top-notch DVD players with an excellent reputation for outstanding performance as well as quality and reliability. The SD-3950 has these desirable characteristics plus component video output for better picture quality and progressive scan technology for compatibility with HDTVs, all at a bargain price. You may not have an HDTV yet but you probably will have one within a year or two, so why not be prepared with a progressive scan DVD player when you can get one this good at such a low price? And the component video output will improve the picture quality even on non-HDTVs. This player is an outstanding performer at a terrific price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy with it
I purchased SD-3950 from Amazon.com about 5 months ago and I used it with a new Sony HD TV set. It was very easy to setup and operate. So far no problem at all. It can read minor damaged DVDs that my other DVD player can't read. The picture quality is good but I have no chance to compare with other progressive scan DVD player yet. The olny thing I don't like is when you use fast forward, it doesn't show you a smooth fast forward, but it jumps forward. Overall, it is a cheap DVD player (I paid for under $40 after rebate) with pretty good quality for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very good CD player
It works fine as a DVD player, no complaints. As a CD player, it's been a very nice surprise, indeed. The sound quality is substantially better (using the analog output of the Toshiba 3950) with this cheap DVD player than I get running a digital feed directly into my Harman Kardon receiver. There are some significant ergonomic issues with using it as a CD player, including the fact that the display doesn't show the track number. I just hope that I don't have the breakdown problems that some other folks seem to be having.

4-0 out of 5 stars buy it as cd Player
I Just read some reviews in professional audio forum, and many of them said this player can provide the HI-FI stander music source, and even marked this one as the best choice of CD resorce under the $600. I bought one, and found it is true it can produce very clean music.
However, when I tried DVD, the color was diffused. I just called AMAZON to make the replacement. after several days waiting, I got my second 3950, the audio is even better than the first one. Again putting the dvd in, it finally give the DVD quality color, however 20 minutes later, the same problem of color diffussing was appearing.
I dont have more time and energy to change this machine.
Anyhow, I still give this machine for 4 star, because I just bought it as the CD-player, and its audio along do deserve its price. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Basics:
As the midlevel model in Toshiba's powerful, multimedia-friendly A75 roster of portable computers, the Satellite A75-S226 Notebook PC provides a good compromise between price and performance. Featuring a 15.4-inch widescreen display perfect for DVD viewing, an extremely potent Intel Pentium 4 processor and all the connectivity you'll need for the latest digital camcorders and cameras, the Satellite A75-S226 is a fast machine ready for most any remote or home application.

Processor:
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today's notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU's on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, though these machines are usually noticeably larger and more power hungry than their less powerful counterparts. For the Satellite A75-S226, Toshiba has selected a super-fast 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 532. This CPU is part of the new second-generation of Intel's potent Pentium 4 series, offering improved power efficiency, extra "Level 2 cache" for quicker access to recently viewed data, and "Hyper-Threading" (a technology that allows a single-CPU system to behave at times like a two-CPU system). Running at 3.02 GHz, this is a very powerful CPU that'll handle virtually anything you can throw its way.

Memory:
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM). More RAM means faster computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The Satellite A75-S226 includes 512 MB of RAM, an allotment that's considered quite adequate even if you perform lots of multitasking. The system also allows you to expand to a whopping 1.5 GB of RAM, more than enough for any situation you'll ever come across.

Video:
CPUs are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). This system's graphics controller is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP with 128 MB of shared video memory. Though dedicated video memory would be ideal, the truth is that 128 MB is an impressive amount, even when shared. As such, the Satellite A75-S226 will smoothly and accurately display all 2D and most 3D applications. You may need to upgrade this video controller if you plan to operate super high-end games and 3D animation packages, but the system is otherwise a video powerhouse.

Display:
At 15.4 inches and featuring a widescreen format suitable for displaying DVD movies, the unit's WXGA TFT active matrix display is great for multimedia enthusiasts. The screen's highest supported resolution of 1280 by 800 is superior to the genre's average 1024 by 768, delivering crisp images and lots of fine detail.

Hard Disk:
The Satellite A75-S226 features a solid 60 GB of hard disk space. This is an average size for today's notebooks, offering enough room for general applications and files and a small library of music or multimedia files too.

Optical Drive:
An optical drive is essential in today's computing environment. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs. With a DVD-ROM drive you can watch DVD movies. And with a DVD-RW drive, you can "write" home movies to durable discs and archive files to DVD (DVDs boast more than seven times the storage capacity of a CD). Some drives allow you to do a combination or all of these tasks. This particular system features an extremely versatile "SuperMulti" drive that supports that supports all of the above in every currently available CD or DVD format.

Audio:
The system features an integrated audio processor that mimics the spatial awareness of surround sound through its two stereo speakers.

Keyboard and Controls:
You'll control your notebook via an 85-key keyboard with 12 function keys and a TouchPad pointing device. CD control functions include play/pause, stop/eject, previous, and skip/next.

Connectivity and Expansion:
The Satellite A75-S226 offers a wide variety of ways to keep in touch, including a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up Internet and email access, an RJ-45 Ethernet port for high-speed wired network and Internet, and integrated wireless LAN for cordless e-communication at home, at the office or on the road via a local public hotspot. Other key amenities include three high-speed USB 2.0 ports for fast interaction with plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, and an IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders).

Operating System and Software:
Toshiba has fitted the system with today's most widely accepted operating system, Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition.

Dimensions and Weight:
Notebook computers are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes and weights. Many of today's most powerful notebooks are also the largest, weighing ten or twelve lbs or more and therefore too big and cumbersome for extensive, continuous traveling. These are often referred to as "desktop replacements". On the other extreme are "thin and lights" or "ultra-portables", super-miniaturized units that typically aren't as powerful as their larger brethren but weigh as little as two lbs and will often fit comfortably inside a large purse. The Satellite A75-S206 is considered quite slim by today's standards, at just 1.1 inches thick. Otherwise, it is of average size at 14.4 by 10.8 inches and 7.7 lbs.

Power:
The system is equipped with a 12-cell Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. Though you won't experience the long battery life of today's ultra-light notebooks (often powered by super-efficient but less powerful Intel "Pentium M" processors), the Satellite A75-S226 will deliver in excess of 2 hours between charges, an impressive duration considering its level of power. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars HDTVDude
This TV rocks. Packaged with lots of features and connectivity options and HDTV built in tuner. Picture quality is very good. No wonder Toshiba is better than Sony in Projection TV's (I own both). Wouldn't want to talk about all the features as those can be read by anyone in product features in many websites. A must buy. This Theaterwide series form Toshiba is real power packed in features. Sound quality and picture settings are very easy and crisp. The Auto TV guide one touch recording is fantastic. I was more interested in the IEEE and HDI connectivity. There is also SmartMdiaCard reader to watch pics out of the digicam. I bought indoor HDTV antenna from Jensen and it works great. Digital local channels off the air are free and you can watch HDTV prime time programs without any other cost (I am watching Fox, ABC and NBC digital ones). Sound output fascinates with 40W speakers and SRS Wow.There is another line from Toshiba known as Cinema Series. That looks little refined than this TheatreWide one but then if you plan to spend that much, you might as well buy an LCD or DLP projection TV. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The 35-inch Toshiba 35A44 FST Black direct-view CRT TV delivers a big, beautiful picture using several unique technologies to give you the best viewing experience. Toshiba's Flatter Squarer Tube (FST) significantly reduces screen curvature on the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal axis of the panel. The FST Black picture tube supplies an increased viewing angle along with improved linearity compared with conventional tubes. A special darkening compound is added to the glass before the tube is formed that reduces ambient light reflection while improving contrast and depth of field.

A 3-line digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction virtually eliminates dot crawl or cross-color interference--producing a superior picture. While digital comb filters improve the vertical edges of images, Vertical Contour Correction works with the comb filters to improve the horizontal edges for complete image enhancement. Color temperature controls allow you to adjust white balance. The "Warm" setting reduces the color temperature to an NTSC standard 6,500 degrees Kelvin and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. "Medium" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased. The Black Level Expander increases the black threshold level, so blacks are pure black, not dark gray. This improved contrast makes the picture appear sharper and more 3D.

The 35A44's double-baffle speaker design uses side-mounted, front-firing speakers to deliver the most stereo sound reproduction available from a television's internal speaker system. Aside from the 5-watts-per-channel stereo speaker system, the 35A44 uses MTS for programming with stereo sound, SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language. And if you really like to be immersed in the environments on screen, the set's surround sound abilities let you enjoy an enhanced home theater experience without connection of external speakers.

The 35A44 has plenty of inputs for all your audio and video components. In back you'll find one RF, two composite, one S-video, and one ColorStream component, as well as video and fixed audio outputs. ColorStream component video inputs split the video signal into its base components--Y (the black and white part of the picture), Pr (red minus Y), and Pb (blue minus Y). The signal remains pure and unaffected by the TV's comb filter or NTSC decoder. The result is higher resolution and improved color purity. A front composite input makes hooking up a game console or camcorder a snap.

Many convenience features have been incorporated into the 35A44's design. A four-item glow universal remote with DVD controls give you access to the trilingual (English, Spanish, French) icon onscreen display, sleep timer, noise muting, and channel return as well as basics like channel changing, volume, and picture and audio adjustments. There are also parental control options, including V-Chip and channel lock.
