Great laptop if you're willing to spend the money.
I was planning on picking up a laptop at the end of 2004 or early in 2005, but learned about Intel's new mobile chips that feature more cache. So I waited and picked this up from Sony, which has the Intel M 750 at 1.86 Ghz and 2MB of cache. It also has Intel's 915PM chipset, which is Intel's better chipset for mobile applications. It has a great screen and plenty of power and memory.

I also like the fact it has a new 128mb video chip from ATI (X600) that supports PCI Express. This laptop has 1GB of memory, which I would recommend since 512MB is barely enough today. The hard drive also has plenty of space at 100GB and seems to be fast enough running at 5,400 rpm with SATA interface.

The Sony software for audio and video and editing seems pretty good and I haven't had any problems so far. One thing, I have Office Professional, so I deleted the lame 60-day Office trial package that came with the computer before I could fully access all the programs in my Pro suite.

One of the big selling points of the computer is its excellent 17" wide screen. Out of the box, it looks very good and I haven't even tried to optimize it yet. I'm thinking that the ErgoBright technology, while good for certain areas since it automatically adjusts brightness, compromises maximum picture quality. This feature could be defeated. Generally speaking, these types of auto adjustment features are best left inactive when viewing movies. I find this to be the case with widescreen TVs also. The docking station and speakers are also a plus. Sound from the speakers built into the laptop is only average. I haven't tried headphones yet or the speakers that come with the docking station and I can't yet vouch for the quality of the laptop's internal sound. However, I might pick up an Echo Indigo IO audio pc card. Laptop sound quality is generally average at best, and this add-on card could be a nice upgrade.

This computer is also very quiet, relatively speaking, which is very important to me since I don't like noisy computers. Overall, it is a well thought out design and Sony definitely didn't skimp on the components. ... Read more

Sony VAIO T250 vs T350
The T350 offers intelligent WAN, new memory configuration, and a cool redish color. But...if you don't want to log on to Cingular in the WAN offering choose the T250. While the keys are smaller than a normal keyboard, this 6'1" user finds them acceptable for fast typing. The 802.11g works great. And while I compare it to my HP at 2ghz the speed of the Sony seems just as fast. The touch-pad works well. The weight is fantastic. And the screen, while a bit small, is very very crisp. Great computer for mom, dad, and grandparents
If you ever wanted to get a computer so that your parents and grandparents can keep in touch, get this one. The main reason why I wouldn't recommended a PC is because of all of the viruses and spyware that clog most machines today. My parents have 2 PCs in their home. A virus killed one machine. Spyware and popups slowed down the other machine to the point where web surfing is rendered useless.

Macs don't have to deal so much with viruses and spyware like PCs. Admittedly, you should double the ram. And maybe get a wireless keyboard to free up some USB ports.

Overall, this is the perfect PC replacement for mom,pop, grandpa, and grandma.

Base Configuration should have 512MB RAM
Very happy with the machine, but it should have double the RAM as part of the standard configuration.Anything more than 2 apps running at one time and it slows down noticably.

The software suite that comes with the machine is awesome.Easy to use and tightly integrated.I'm using this machine for digital photo management and for web surfing. No spyware/virus problems with my mini (so far!).

As much as I like it, this machine doesn't have the omph to run the apps I really love, namely 1st person games.My AMD Athlon 1800+ with the same graphics chip (Radeon 9200) runs Call of Duty at high res with acceptable frame rates, while the mini is choppy running a demo version of the same game at 800x600.

Oh well.That's why I'm running both my mini and my WINTEL machine with a KVM.I can always switch back and forth by tapping a few keys.

Great Mac, but you can't get it for free!

It is a well-known fact that these "programs" are run like pyramid schemes. Only the first few people to sign up actually got a Mac mini (it doesn't take a genius to see that you won't be the first sucker here). The rest just get heaps of telemarketing calls, junk faxes, and junk emails.

I ought to know--I'm one of the chumps that was foolish enough to try! Please, learn from my mistake and don't help these jokers rope in any more people.

Mac Mini Makes Sense
I have always been in love with Apple Computers. Whether its' the design, construction, or hardware, it always gets to me. When I purchased my Mac Mini, I couldn't believe it. The thing is so tiny, its' the size of my hands, and its' unbelievably light-weight. It is the perfect thing to put on your desk. Even if there is a lot of clutter on your work area, the Mac Mini fits like its' nobody's business. When I purchased my Mac Mini, I added two things that everyone needs:

1. Doubled Ram
2. Keyboard and Mouse

Why do you need both of these things? The Mac Mini performs poorly on the minimum ram. Sadly, most Mac's do. For the keyboard and the mouse, the keyboard comes with an extra USB port in the back of it strictly for the one button mouse that Apple has to offer. So, you get an extra USB port on the back of your system for a camera, printer, etc. PLUS, all Mac keyboards have an eject button, so you don't have to move to the edge of your system to get the disc out. Never the less, you can use your old keyboard and mouse without a problem. I just recomend you buy it for the Mac Mini. However, you still need the extra ram, because you are going to need it. For your monitor, most people would have to buy an adapter. The port on the system is the most different of most monitor cables. So, you have to check the wire. The Apple Store have a huge selection of adapters, so go there if you need help finding one. All monitors work well with Mac Mini.

I love my Mac Mini. But why did I give it four stars? Look back. Apple gives you nothing with the Mini. If you don't own a PC, you will have to buy a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and RAM! Although, after that, it's still cheaper than the next small priced Mac, the eMac. I recomend this computer over any PC (Dell, Gateway, WHATEVER!) because it is small, and has better applications than the other systems. In essence, the Mac Mini makes sense.

Recomended Software:

-TIGER: Mini comes with panther until April 29th 2005. It is important that you wait until then, or upgrade your Mini after. For more information on Tiger, visit the Apple Homepage.

Missing features of previous versions
Visio 2003 Pro is a good product, but the fact that several key features are gone is the reason for a 3 star rating.

I use Visio 2003 Pro for general diagramming and for informal data modeling and process modeling in the course of developing system requirements.I used the simple data flow model diagram for years in Visio 2000, but 2003 has removed the "model" capabilities; it's just a picture now with no reusable components.

Pluses:
Good screen layout options
Still reverse-engineers databases
Better shape manipulation
Shape transparency

Minuses:
Removed "explorer" and modeling capabilities of Data Flow Model diagram
Does not generate DDL (Data Definition Language) anymore (need Visual Studio)
No longer exports to ERWin ERX files
Does not save to Visio 5 format (only 2002)
Removed Auto-Discovery
Removed a bunch of file converters and import tools

Does everything but tie your shoelaces for you
I was able to turn out a complicated flowchart polished enough for professional training purposes in just two hours - despite having never used this kind of software before, and having no assistancewhatsoever besides the program's own Help files. Now *that's* ease-of-use.

Beware!!!Not an upgrade for Visio 2003 Standard
I just purchased this thinking that "of course I can upgrade to Visio 2003 Pro from Visio 2003 Standard".Nope. This is just plain silly. I still am trying to figure out if I can even upgrade my Visio *2003* Standard version to Professional.

A Valuable Upgrade
I have been using the Visio diagramming software since the 2000 version.In my mind this upgrade is the best I have purchased.

The interface with the rest of the Office XP 2003 Suite is vastly improved.I can now take a diagram created in Visio and drop it into Word documents, PowerPoint Presentations and e-mails without having to reformat it.In the past the transfer was never clean.

Once the diagram is embedded, I can emphasize and clarify key points, gather input from team members and even share documents using SharePoint services.This is a huge timesaver for me.

If you embed your diagrams in other documents, you will love this upgrade.

Visio has always been an excellent solution for technical diagramming. Version 2003 is no exception and improves upon its predecessor with support for the web and integration with other Office applications. The program still lacks certain elements of Microsoft Office which I feel concerned about. Users are able to import Native Auto CAD drawings directly into Visio, and use the Visio tools to further customize and edit drawings to their hearts content. You can create custom stencils save them and share with other Visio users over a corporate network. You can export diagrams as a webpage so that users who don't have Visio installed locally on their machine can View diagrams through web browser at different resolutions with ease. The program enables IT Adminstrators to create Diagrams for Active Directory role outs for Windows 2000 Server and Server 2003. SQL Server or other third party database products such as Oracle and IBM DB2 can use the Visio functionality to outline a companies storage of data through active digrams that automate how data is stored and used. Nonprofit edition isn't really different.
I had the, uhm, privilege of setting this up for a nonprofit organization. QuickBooks Premier Non-Profit Edition 2005 was chosen because everyone collectively went, "We need accounting software. And gasp! Quickbooks is catering to nonprofits! And we're a nonprofit! So this has got to be great!" However, it's all the same with an extra name on it. Therefore I recommend taking the the reviews of QuickBooks Premier 2005 (regular edition) into consideration for your purchasing decision. The reviews are bad but apparently they're bad for every single accounting software product on Amazon (really, you'll see).

It is very, very smart marketing on Intuit's part to make such specialized niche versions of their software. They don't seem to have any competitors in "nonprofit accounting" at the office stores. They must be barnstorming marketshare coming up with specialized versions.

I don't know the Quickbooks software well enough to give you an accurate rating. I gave it four stars. I was tempted to give it three, a fair mediocre rating... Quickbooks was not easy or wonderful, or pleasant. But does it do its job? Yes. I think Quickbooks or something like it is necessary, and will pay off big time in the long run. It comes with (a rather good, included) how-to book. If you have the money, go to Intuit's website and look up a QuickBooks Consultant in your area... I'd imagine this genuinely valuable.

Kudos to Intuit for honoring their rebate.

Importance of Peachtree Software to end user
I have been using Peachtree Accounting and Quickbooks software for the past eight years and I think Peachtree is better in terms of presentation especiallyfor the financial reports.

In Quickbooks, anybody can use it in terms of compilation of books but the reporting is not presentable enough to impress the end user especially the big bosses,while in Peachtree Accounting it is more complicated to non accountants but the financial reporting is more impressive.

Small business user...
I'm an engineer and normally I don't write review at all, except for this time. I started a new business a year ago and I've been looking for an accounting package to run the business. While searching, I'm using MS excel for a while. It's OK but I spend too much time to set it up weekly and enter daily expenes and sales journals. And I have not mention the time that I spend to maintain the customer, Inventory list and do payroll. To make a story short, I have another fulltime job and I can only work on the business book at night. Each night, I would spend at least 2-3 hours and I can't afford this because I have 2 small kids too.
Since I brought the PeachTree 2005, I only spend 15-30 minutes to to all the needed tasks and run all different reports as I could not do in the spreadsheets.
I have to admit that the software a bit confuse and hard to set it up in the begining especially for those who has no acounting backgroud. To start all I need is to import the customer list and the inventory then it's ready to use. Once you start use the software, and you can fine-tune what you need. Accounting is very principal but each business runs it differently.
Over all I'm very happy with the product although I'm still learning new features from it every day after using it for 4 months.

Want a refund..............
I am totally disgusted with this Peachtree Accounting 2005. Bought it in December, have not used it yet cause it is so darn complicated. Been reading the "User's Guide" that comes with the software and finally made a call to the tech support (it was still free-not charging me yet)to ask them. Told them we were a small company, I wanted to know how to enter our employees and let ME figure their paychecks without entering tax tables or buying their tax service. The tech told me how and I asked him to give me a page number in the "User's Guide" so I could look it up and follow along. Well, guess what?? It is NOT in the "User's Guide"!!!Not sure what good a "User's Guide" does for me if the company only puts in instructions that benefit THEM-they want you to sign up for The Peachtree Payroll Tax Service, which of course, is NOT free. Also, talked to our personal CPA and he said you almost had to be an accountant to be able to use it. So I have given up!!!

I'm glad I read TextbookBiz's warning regarding product registration.My friend uses PA 2005 and it seems easy enough, even though previously I had used Quickbooks (a few years back).I liked PA 2005's interface, so I came to Amazon to buy a copy for myself.There are people selling "new & used" for 1/5 the regular price, and I was naturally suspicious.After reading TextbookBiz's review I called up teh publisher on my dime and, indeed, they told me once a copy is registered, there's no way to re-install it, so you cannot install teh same copy on two PCs and you cannot transfer / sell the copy to someone else!

Of course, this is irksome for legit users, too.This is basically product activation, and you cannot use it on more than one computer.For $180 I really expect to be able to use this on all my PCs.I'd even be willing to send the company a picture to prove these are indeed my personal computers.

Thanks to TextbookBiz, I did not fall for the scams in the new & used section.I hope Amazon removes those listings.

Beware of Registered Peachtree Products
Once a Peachtree product has been registered, you cannot legally sell it to another person.I know this fact from experience.After migrating to QuickBooks Pro, I contacted Best Software to find out how to "unregister" my Peachtree Accounting 2004 in order to sell.The customer representative informed me that once I registered my product, it had become mine, PERMANTLY.At the very least, the only option available to me was disposal.

So before making your Peachtree purchase, make sure the seller has not registered the product.Also, keep in mind that Peachtree software must be registered after fifteen uses, or else you will be locked out.And once you register, Peachtree is yours FOREVER! ... Read more

logitech usb keyboard for ps2
This is one of the best keyboards on the market for a reasonable price. the good thing is it size. It's small enough to fit in your lap as you send messages to your friends with the control in your hand. It works great with online titles such as socom2 and resident evil outbreak. I highly recommend this product if you play on-line a lot.

Awesome keyboard
This keyboard is perfect for any online PS2 game. I bought it for Final Fantasy XI and have been very happy with it. If you can afford it, though, I would recommend the Logitech Netplay thing that has the keyboard and controller in one unit so you don't have to switch between the keyboard and the controller.

Great keyboard.
This keyboard is basically the same kind you use for school. If you like that then by all means purchase the keyboard. I use a different one for computer but this one is still pretty nice.

The only problem is that this keyboard can't be used in that many games. RPG Maker is the big one. Maybe some online games will utilize it though.

Works Great
Works Great!!I have a drive exclusivly for photos and it was taking 10 seconds or more to open.I ran Diskeeper Home edition and now it opens almost intentaniously.Also, I do digital movie editing, and with a defragged hard drive, the whole process is much somoother.I was introduced to Diskeeper a few years ago on a professional level, but didn't want to spend the money for the professional version.The Home Edition solved that problem.Very happy with the product. ... Excellent hybrid!!!!
I am a first time tablet buyer and thus read everything written on tablets before buying one. I am quite please with my choice.
I have owned an ECS desknote, Compaq Presario, IBM notebooks and Gateway desktop earlier. Right now, I am using the R15 along with my gateway desktop.
Several people wrote that it is probably better to go with a slate rather than a hybrid but I wasn't sure how much will I use my tablet functionality. It appears that I will use the R15 mostly as a tablet and sometimes as a notebook. So, my next purchase will be a slate.

I have such a poor handwriting that I cannot read it myself on some occasions. Thus I am surprised that R15 could read my handwriting so well. I didnt check the speech recognition function, but last time I looked at it, the technology hadn't advanced much.

Overall, R15 is a sturdy machine with good wireless card (I didn't have to set up the wireless). Battery life is good (and can stretch even more than 4 hours on some settings). The pen is very easy to use and pleasant experience. The drive makes a lot of sound but there is a silencer that can make the noise disappear (I am not sure whether it changes the perfomrance). I was quite worried about the cooling of the machine - I checked an averatec which was too hot to handle. R15 manages the heat disspiation quite well, thought it reamins warm (not hot like so many other machines).

I decided not to go with Averatec as I read too many bad reviews and my last experinece with an unknown brand was extremely bad. So, i decided to spend 350 bucks extra on a known brand.

I found the performance of the machine to be at least as good as my 2.2Ghz desktop. I simultaneuously ran word, outlook, excel and onenote and performnnce was still good.

Amazon gave a great deal (and when i bought it was the cheapest R15 around). They also shipped in just 3 days (although they said it woudl take 5-9 days). Buying at Amazon was a pleasure - as always.

The only thing I dont like about R15 is the weight. Although, as a laptop the weigth is not problem, when it is used as a slate holding it in one arm for long is difficult. But this is a trade-off I made to have a larger screen, built in optical drive, and laptop functionality. I am not disappointed with the trade-off.

Overall, I would recommend this machine to someone who doesn't know how much he/she would use it as a tablet and for first time tablet buyers. I would also recommend potential laptop buyers to take a good look at this hybrid as it has amazing features (as a tablet) that would change the way you work with your computer.

In general, I agree with the previous reviews. I would recommend it for people new to tablets.My next one may be a slate though.I didn't think I was too mobile beofre getting the R15.A new world has opened up to me.In a couple years I'll be ready for a slate.Someone told me "If you buy a convertable, try to use it only in Tablet mode to really learn and benefit from the tablet features. Otherwise, you'll end up using the Tablet as a notebook and the purchase would have been pointless."

Excellent tablet pc - versitile - but A Monster
I agree with the previous review.I've had this machine for over about a week now and I love it...but it's a monster.Heavy and big.When converted into tablet form it is much more manageable (at least it's not so bulky then).I bought a verizon broadband card and I've been in heaven.Never have to worry about an internet connection now...I use the tablet form when in meetings and when I have to walk around.The machine itself is great.Comes with OneNote installed...great features...big screen (although that can be a pain because it makes the machine bigger; I like the big screen though)...and a very good price for what you get. If you're willing to spend over 2.5K you can get the Fujitu T4000 which is smaller and lighter and looks like a great machine....but you pay over 1K more (which I was not willing to do).The R15 is a very functional machine; it does what I need it for and although it's a bit heavy and bulky it is an excellent value.Hopefully it will stand the test of time and not fall apart on me after I write this review :)

BEST FOR THE PRICE
I wanted to buy a tablet pc for a long time but the only thing that was keeping me away from it was that the price was too high for something with very low computing power and in most cases no optical drive. For the ones with a good configuration and an optical drive the price was too high. I loved the functionality of the tablet pc so was not able to decided whether to buy a notebook or a tablet, but then this came along and I have to say it is the best for the price, I have given it 4 stars only because it is on the heavier side for a tablet pc, but then I guess you can't have everything for this price. If you want something light and can do without a CD/DVD drive and a smaller screen then you should consider the TOSHIBA M200 or the FUJITSU T4000. Except the weight this is a great machine. ...
