Processor
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. For the Media Center m1090n, HP has turned to Intel and its new Pentium 4 560 CPU. This is an upgraded version (nicknamed "Prescott") of the venerable Pentium 4 chip, featuring one full MB of Level 2 cache and a more generous data "pipeline" than prior models. Operating at a screaming 3.6 GHz and of course sporting Intel's Hyper-Threading technology (Hyper-Threading allows a single CPU system to behave at times as a dual CPU system, thus adding substantially more speed to some high-end applications), this is an extremely competent CPU that will blaze through virtually anything. However, it follows the tried and true 32-bit CPU architecture of previous Pentiums rather than the substantially faster 64-bit architecture just being introduced in today's priciest, most advanced CPUs. Memory
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM) for faster retrieval. Great Computer
This computer is definetly worth getting. It runs pretty quick, as well as has a cd/dvd writer. This computer also records from dvd's/cd's as well as takes pictures of your favriot scenes on a movie.

The New Realm In Media Fusion!
This PC Rocks! The XP Media Center Edition 2004 is all you need to get the best of all media worlds! Digital Video, Digital Music, TV, Digital Photos, TIVO-like recording capability, and a whole lot more! I hooked this monster up to my 40 inch LCD projection and wow! It's even got a DVI out to enhance High Definition like quality display for newer and larger LCD/Plasma displays. As television and hi fi fused and eventually brought us surround sound, this is the beginning of a future of All In One Home/Work Entertainment. The standard television will sooner or later become obsolete. The future is now! I highly recommend this PC and once you get it, learn as much as you can about it's bells and whistles and maximize their use to get the most out of this system!

Couldn't be happier
This PC was purchased for my wife. She was previously using an Athlon with a Sound Blaster Live Platinum and premium BOSE satellite speakers. I suspected the BOSE would provide better sound, even given the lack of a sub. I'm happy to say I was dead wrong.

The sound on this system blows away my wife's old BOSE system AND the top-flight Altec speaker system / Turle Beach Santa Cruz DSP card on my DELL. It's absolutely the best sound I've heard from a PC.

I haven't gotten much into the video side of things, given it's my wife's PC and we haven't had it very long. But I have to say, for the price, I couldn't have done better with a DELL - which, in my book, is saying something.

Good Computer but not great
When I first took home the HP Media center it worked great. It was fast and options seemed unlimited...or so I thought. I have had this computer for all of a month and am experiencing problems that the sales associate promised I would not have. First off, my DVD/CD-ROM drive broke after the second week be fore I even had a chance to play a single DVD on it. Second when I did get it replaced...(After sending it in to HP)Every DVD I attempted to play on it caused the computer to stall and freeze and this was just 4 weeks after taking it out of the box! But I give this computer 3 stars because if you have DSL service this computer can really shine. It come with a remote...which I think is cool, the graphics on the desktop are great... and it really is fast..CD ROM aside of course. But I warn...if you want a really reliable long lasting computer you may want to look eles where.

Great multi media package
This pc has just about everything you can ask for, plus. And coming as a package, everything works out of the box. No worrying about trying to find drivers or trying to kludge something up. Very fast DVD/CD writer and even faster CD ROM. I'm used to an older, slower box and this thing is so fast at recording CDs that it actually started to irritate me. I would just start to do something else and it would be finished. After a month I'm still discovering some of the software that came with it. This XP Multi Media os is great, it is a superset of XP Pro. Like XP it is super stable. Just for laughs I hooked the TV cable up and the multi media was a snap to get working. I now have a mini tv working on my screen. Only small problem for me is that I have a Tivo (the world's second greatest invention after TV) and I can't completely hook up the tv guide function because I don't want this pc fighting with Tivo over control of the cable box. Really good
The Hp pavilion 734n works just great. I have the games Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942, GTA Vice city, Halo, Max Payne 2,Max Payne, and Grand Theft Auto 3, on it and it runs them all flawlessly. The 80 gig hard drive is awsome. It comes with a great 512 megabites of RAM. and a real good graphics card Nvidia G-force MX 420 for games and it has two disk drives one a normal one with a 40x burner and the other a DVD rom drive. The only problem with the computer is the dinky speakers. consider upgrading for better speakers

Totally worth its price!
This desktop pc is a really good deal for the price. Has a good ram to play any of the games or can be used for business purposes. HP Pavilion 734N is a Desktop PC that's geared for serious fun. It can tackle business, games, multimedia creativity, and more. This desktop is extremely efficient in usage.

This pc is very good for music and entertainment purposes such as watching dvd's. One of the advantages of this system is its massive 80 gig hardrive.
The anthlon processor scores a 9/10 on graphics but it heats up pretty fast.

I think its totally worth its price but if you are willing to spend a little more I think the Alienware Navigator Pro is a better deal. ... Read more
