5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent wireless solution for both desktop and laptop pc's
When I first thought about buying this mouse, I wasn't impressed by the reviews. Most of them spoke bad about it and pointed a lot of weaknesses. But I decided to buy it anyway, since I had a friend at work who had one and was very pleased with it. The one I bought came with the cradle and I must admit that it's very useful, since you can charge the batteries when the mouse is not in use and also you can plug the receiver and keep working.
The mouse is very accurate and precise, the blue led from the receiver is nice to look at and, to tell you the truth,it doesn't bother me at all or distract me, like some people said it would.
My recomendation is: if you want a wireless pointing solution for your laptop, go for this one. It works fine and it's a lot smaller than some from other brands.
I paied 54.90€ for the whole pack and must say that I'm very happy with my purchase! Great value for money!
The pack comes with:
- Mouse unit
- RF Receiver (USB)
- Rechargeable batteries
- Battery charger cradle
- USB cable extension

4-0 out of 5 stars Great so Far
I bought this mouse for use with my Laptop. It installed without a hitch on XP and Windows 2000. My only negative comment would be that the wheel is a little "spongy" and has a little more play before registering a click - not the well defined click of my usual MS Intellipoint.

The range is at least 3 foot - as advertised. I haven't noticed any drop outs. The unit does operate on 2 AA batteries and I'm not sure how long these will last. According to the manual there is an optional USB charging station but having talked with Targus this isn't available for 4 months. If you have to carry around the charging station I'm also not all that sure how portable this makes the whole unit.

My recommendation. Great for the money (about $75AU or $40US) that I paid for it. Fits well in the hand. Smooth operation on just about any surface. Very happy so far.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great improvement over the previous model
This new model is much better than the older unit. The greatest improvement is the on/off switch and power saving functions. The old version would only save batteries when it was left still, which never happens when it's in my bag and always ended up taking the batteries out which was a real pain.

I do not find the switch hard to use as some people have indicated. I have short nails and stubby fingers, but I have no problems with it. It's designed to not be accidentally switched off.

I use 700mAh NiMH rechargable batteries in the mouse and it's been a week now and I haven't had to change them with moderate use. I also find it comfortable to hold and pleasing to look at (important with laptops I think.)

The wheel rolls silently, but the clicking could be a little quieter since it is a laptop mouse that you may want to use in a classroom or boardroom.

The bendable usb adapter is a nice addition and I would recommend this mouse to anyone. I have used it successfully in Windows XP Pro, Gentoo Linux and FreeBSD.

1-0 out of 5 stars This mouse is terrible
I got this mouse because it is small and easy for travel, however it has many technical difficulties. The battery cover is complicated and hard to remove, the usb reciver blinks when ever you use the mouse, the off/on button is very small and frustrating, and much more. overall....DO NOT BUY THIS MOUSE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY!

2-0 out of 5 stars Wireless presenter
Unfortunately this item tries to do too many things and that is its downfall. The laser is not bright enough and drains the 2xAA batteries (would'nt last more than a day's meeting). The wireless mouse is difficult to control and will not replace a regular mouse - the only good feature is the powerpoint control for slide advancement and reversal- works great for that with the two neatly placed buttons. However, if you happen to touch the large central menu button (hard to avoid because of its size and central location) it reverses to "mouse mode" - the two buttons turn to right and left mouse buttons- result the slides will not then advance- if this happens during your presentation- takes some figuring out!

THe poor battery life, weak laser and large and wrongly placed menu button make this an undesirable item- coupled with the fact that my first one blew out its circuit after 8 months (4 weeks for replacement and UPS costs)makes it an unrecommendable item. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Laptop Accessory!!!!!!!
I LOVE this little mouse. Its so compact but it doesnt feel too small. Portability is awesome as its cord is retractable. Theres not one downside to this mouse! I highly recommend this for any laptop user. This is also the first time I've owned an Optical Mouse and I will NEVER go back to a track ball mouse. You no longer have to drag the mouse everywhere and when using a laptop thats really helpful!!! You can also use this on almost any surface!

5-0 out of 5 stars great size and useability
This is a fantastic solution for a laptop. I don't like touch pads or even the stick in an IBM ThinkPad. I used to carry a full size mouse. This is virtually weightless and can fit in any spare part of a laptop bag. I initially found my hand felt cramped because I was trying to hold it with the same fingers I use for a full size mouse, but I consciously just rearranged my fingers and found it to be incredibly easy to use for long periods of time. The retracting cord is ingenious.

4-0 out of 5 stars very pleased so far!
I have rather sweaty fingers (I tell ya, this is really annoying), so it is essential for me NOT to rely on touch pad too much. This tiny mouse has been a life saver for me. It is rather affordable, and works pretty well with many (but not all; occasionally it doen't work on very, very smooth surfaces) surfaces. There are more expensive chordless models, but in many occasions, I'll be working on my notebook computer with limited amount of space, so having the "retractable" chord doesn't bother me at all.

"Retractable" is indeed the key here. It's so compact that you don't feel that you are carrying around yet another tiny electronic gadget along with your cell phone, mp3 player, shaver, etc., etc. Anyways, highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful - so glad I bought it!
I didn't think I really needed this for my laptop, since the touchpad does a decent job. But this makes navigating the desktop and surfing the web much faster and more comfortable. It's tiny, but feels just right. I don't even like using a regular sized mouse anymore. It is truly plug and play via the USB port - it doesn't require separate software or drivers, or even a system restart for that matter. I just hooked it up and was using it in less than half a minute. Both buttons and the scroll wheel perform admirably. The self-winding cord works like a charm too. It comes with its own carry bag which makes packing convenient. In essence, it's everything I was looking for in a mouse. I'm not usually terribly enthusiastic about gadgets, but this one is without flaw.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mouse Size is Great; Retracting Cord Broke Quickly
Bought the mouse for a Dell Inspiron 600 because of size and retractable cord. The size fits in a laptop case easily and is far less bulky than others. While very small, it works well on small tables, on the computer itself and on an airplace tray. But, the lock on the cord rewind device broke within one month and I now have to tie a knot in the cord on both sides of the rewind section to keep it from snapping back against the computer when no in use. It didn't really cost that much, but, as it turned out, it was a waste of money. I no longer use it. When it worked, I would rate it a 5; broken a 0. ... Read more

This chasis seems like a great buy but don't be fooled by what is written in the description. After recieving itwe realized it did not include the features that are listed. All we received was a empty chasis, no extras. After contactiog Amazon and mentioning the error they were very happy to send us another chasis regretting the error.Well, another arrived and once again we received an empty chasis. After several attempts to have them send uspost paid mailing labels to return the 2 chasis to them we have heard nothingbut excuses."We don't know what happened, it must be the shipping companys problem', (re:the mailing label), etc.So here we sit with 2 Antec Chasis which are not what we expected and we will either be billed for both or we will have toreturn them at our own expense.

We have shopped Amazon for years for birthday and holiday gifts but after this experience I doubt we will ever shop here again. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars does not work as advertised
I upgraded from Punch's Super Homesuite because I wanted to do Heating and Air Conditioning design (as well as model my house which is a 1 and 1/2 story house - a two story house with a room with a vaulted ceiling to the second story). AS-18 costs more money and was a step back from Super Home Suite. The moderator for Punch's on-line community states the software is really meant for visualization, not for actual design.Actual design is what I purchased it for. I am a Licensed Professional Engineer. I purchased the software for some remodelling projects and perhaps a shed in the yard. 20 years in the business and i found this software difficult, frustrating and unsuitable.I am still looking for a capable & easy to use home remodelling/design program. I wish I would have checked the reviews from Amazon before buying.

1-0 out of 5 stars AS18 Makes Simple Tedious
I have read the book, used the online help and still, this program just makes simple things tedious. For example: I create a wall, then click to move it -- poof there's a flyout menu in your face. Click the wall again and NOW you can move it.

There's just a lot of stuff like that. Little annoyances that make the simple, harder. I am extremely disappointed as the potential with AS18 is there. Maybe their new 3000 addresses some of the tedium, but I'm not willing to pay the price right now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Program!!!!!
Whaa... to the reviewer that gave this great program 1 star. Don't let that review stear you away from purchasing it. Of course there is a learning curve to every designer program. This particular version has a great user manual. A on-line forum that you can get expert advice on questions you may have. There are also video tutorials to help walk you thru step by step almost all details of building your dream home. I have been a PUNCH user for over 2 years and I own all the versions except Architectural series 3000. Down the road I will purchase it. I give this program 5+ stars!

1-0 out of 5 stars Unsuitable for intended purpose.
My advice is to avoid this product. The manual is unclear and just plain inaccurate in places. Exact placement and manipulation of walls and groups of walls is very difficult and tedious. Many times I found myself having to delete several items and walls in order to change a specific wall. It would be extremely helpful if a wall could be locked in position with a menu toggle. Creating walls for vaulted ceilings was extremely frustrating. There is no automatic way to have a group of walls be the same maximum height and meet correctly with vaulted ceilings. This makes roofing design a painful process also.

The 3d views are graphically very good, but the controls for manipulating them are inadequate. It is extremely difficult to do a walk thru from the 3d window. The only way I found to do a controlled walk thru was by using the viewpoint tool in the 2d window. This causes you to do a lot of scrolling and wastes desktop space the 3d view could be using so you end up with less of a perspective than you should have. I have also run into strange glitches with the 3d view that would cause windows and doors to become solid walls again, despite still showing up on the 2d plan. Some times closing the program and restarting would fix the problem and other times I would have to discard the plan and revert back to an earlier save. This is very annoying and time wasting.

My biggest annoyance by far though is that there is no kind of feasibility checking in the program. With a consumer level product some kind of check to evaluate your plan should be present. Something to tell you that your floor needs support at a certain point or it will fall or the concrete pad you are pouring needs reinforcement at specific places. I know many other home design programs have some form of checking in them. It seems Punch software has no checking of any kind. This would be valuable to avoid many simple mistakes and to make the estimator tool much more accurate. If necessary elements are left out because you did not know they were needed, how is the program going to estimate the amount of materials needed with any kind of accuracy?

This program actually seems to be geared to a professional contractor or architect with knowledge of good building practices, but I'm guessing it would be inadequate for them in many other ways. There is not nearly enough help for the amateur designers who only want to tinker with their own house or put a dream home down on paper.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction model for switchers with a limited budget
I recently purchased the 1.25 ghz eMac SuperDrive model in May and it's a great all-in-one machine. If you want to switch to Apple but not pay two or even three months worth of your well-earned paycheck for a G5 or G4 Powermac then the eMac is the model to go for. I also upgraded the memory to its maximum 1 gig and got the very cool JBL Creature II 2.1 speakers. I have everything that I need right on the eMac: burn dvd's or cd's, download music & more, play games, surf the web, print or scan with no problems, have a bluetooth connection with my 6600 nokia or connect to my olympus digi cam with ease.

The only negative things I have to say is the loudness of the machine which can be really annoying especially when watching a dvd or listening to music. If you can't stand a loud fan then go for another model. I also wish Apple products or programs weren't so overpriced.

Overall I'm very happy with the eMac and Mac OS X Panther, now all I need to get is an iBook and an iPod.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good machine but noisy
Very fast. My only complain is the noise of the fans at the back. When i work at night its really annoying. Try listening music with itunes when you always hearing those big fans in background... Also the screen lack sharpeness. At night again its become very hard for the eyes to read words at the screen specially when you're doing desktop publishing. So im planning to buy an other flat screen (a PC one, bigger and scrisper) later. i find a patch on the internet where i can go in dual mode with 2 monitors. It works perfectly and make me really happy, i can't understand why apple did not included it in the machine.
Yes the noise is really the big annoying thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Value!
I just bought one of these to use at home as a multimedia creation station. All I can say is, "Wow!" The performance and the feature set of this computer is just an amazing value for the price. It performs noticeably faster than the brand new Dell Dimension 2400 w/2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 I use at work! Don't let the "1.25 Ghz" processor speed scare you. This is a speedy machine. The screen is very bright and colors display quite well - which was a relief for me. I was tempted to buy the 17" flat-panel iMac instead, but the idea of keeping an extra $800.00 in my pocket won out. The iMac's flat panel *is* truly gorgeous, and I liked the desk space-saving aspect of the iMac, but with the money I saved buying this eMac I can buy a leftover or refurbished iBook and have both a desktop *and* a laptop! The only negative things I have to say about this computer is that the fan noise is somewhat loud (not ear-splitting LOUD! but a somewhat forceful "whoosh" sound that is definitely noticeable and can be distracting/annoying), and the speakers are pretty unimpressive. "Thunderous sound system" - yeah right! The speakers *sound* good enough but the bass frequencies start sounding like a paper bag way before the sound is turned up to full volume. Don't try to attempt to impress your friends by bumping your Snoop Dogg CDs unless you get some external speakers.

All in all, this machine should meet or exceed the needs of just about *any* consumer/"average joe" computer usage and also excels at video, photo, and music editing! A great value for the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Darned Apple!
I just bought my eMac in December for $$$ more! But with that aside, this is the first computer I bought that I've been thoroughly satisfied with since I bought my FIRST computer (a Windows 95-based PII)--and let me say that my computer savvy has grown a whole lot since then, so for me to be satisfied now is saying a lot.

And there's a lot to like about the eMac. First off, is price. You're paying less for more! The eMac is basically the iMac in a different shell, but it's several hundreds less. If you can live without a flat-panel LCD (and most people can), then get this computer!

With a 1.25 GHz G4, this beauty is as fast as a 2.4 GHz P4! And combined with the wonderful iLife suite, it makes multimedia work simple. From making movies and DVDs (iMovie + iDVD), digital photo slideshows (iPhoto) and playing music (iPhoto) everything is simple to use and fast, too. And with the new iLife '04, you can MAKE music, too, using GarageBand!

Heck, at this price, it's cheaper than any quality PC with similar specs: 17" flat screen monitor (16" viewable), 256 MB RAM, 1.25GHz G4 (2.4GHz P4 equiv.), 80 GB HD, 32 MB ATI Radeon graphics card, 8x DVD burner (w/32x CDR write), 2 USB + 2 Firewire and a great bundle of software in the iLife suite!

I was a long-time Windows user and worked rebuilding old PCs, but I just got so sick of the Windows clutter and the inherent problems with the OS that I decided to go with Apple and I have never been happier.

If you're thinking that you don't want to go Mac because you don't want to have to relearn how to use a computer, don't worry. Mac OS X is easy to use, as it uses almost the same GUI as Windows (although Apple came up with it first), and the only differences are that icons line up on the right on Macs and you can't just click on the button on the window to close the app--you have to select "Quit..." to close it. If you can make those adjustments, you can use a Mac! And, if you have any problems with the OS (eg. a "kernel panic"), you can restore the OS without deleting precious information on your HD! How convenient! Try doing that with Windows XP! Sure, XP can restore to a previous point, but that rarely works (I've had to do that about 30 times in two years until I went Mac)--I've had to restore Mac OS X once (four months ago--it was my fault for downloading the wrong version of a program), and everything was like brand-new again and I haven't had another problem since. Wonderful!

But, I can't only spout about the good. Some problems with Mac are that it can't natively play AVI files--a fairly common video file format. Software is expensive--up to as much as twice that of Windows. Sudden price changes/model releases--like when I bought my eMac in December, they released the new iLife in January--so I didn't get a free upgrade (I missed the cutoff date by a week), but had to BUY iLife for $$, even though I hadn't had my computer for a month! Had I known, I'd have waited the extra week and saved myself some money! Oh, and I also would've gotten Final Cut Express 2.0 for $$ instead of FCE 1.1!! Now if I want FCE 2.0, I'll have to shell out another $$!!! What a pain!

But that's more problems with Apple the company, rather than the computer. Hence, my giving this computer 5 stars. No computer I've owned up until now deserved it, but you won't find more bang for your buck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, versatile, and very user friendly computer.
A recent user survey in PC magazine identified Apple computers as the most reliable and easiest to use computers currently available. Yes, most people use Windows-based PCs, but do you want to be just another member of the PC herd -- with all of the problems and frustrations presented by Windows-based PCs -- or are you looking for a computer which is user friendly and seldom crashes? If ease of use and reliability are more important to you than being one of the crowd, please seriously consider buying an Apple. The eMac is Apple's least expensive computer, so it's a terrific way to enter the user friendly world of Apple computers at a very reasonable price. Furthermore, this new eMac is a very fast computer; faster than the previous eMac because it now uses a 1.25 GHz G4 processor which is equivalent in processor speed to a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4. This version of the eMac comes with a DVD burner plus a terrific software package for downloading, organizing and recording (on CDs and DVDs) music, photos, and movies. If you're looking for a fast, versatile, easy to use computer and are willing to try something off the beaten path, you'll love this new eMac. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Take your entertainment center with you wherever you roam with the HP Pavilion zd8080 Media Center Notebook PC. Record your favorite TV programs and watch them on the widescreen 17-inch LCD monitor, view photoslideshows with your own soundtrack, or watch DVD movies, and control it all with the included remote. The zd8080 can also unleash your digital creativity with the multiformat DVD/CD burner and included Image Zone photo editing and management software. This multimedia notebook features a super-fast, hyper-threaded 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, 100 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM, 54g wireless connectivity, multiformat memory card reader, and a powerful video/graphics card with 256 MB of dedicated RAM.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 100 GB hard drive is one of the largest available in today's notebooks, enabling road warriors and multimedia enthusiasts more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software.
  • Processor: The hyper-threaded 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor allows a single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system, helping to deliver faster transistors and increased performance. It also features a 1 MB L2 cache and a blazingly fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed, which measures how fast a processor and the main memory communicate. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)

A Hyper-Threading processor helps a PC to run multiple demanding applications at the same time. This technology enables the processor to execute two threads (a part of a program) in parallel, boosting performance during key high-drain procedures. This results in more efficient software performance (such as faster reaction times in gaming applications) and enhanced multitasking.

  • Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB, dual channel at 400 MHz) is a very good start for this multimedia-centric notebook, but you'll want to take full advantage of the 2 GB capacity (2 x 1 GB) to maximize the multimedia.
  • CD/DVD Drive: The combo DVD+/-RW and CD-RW drive is compatible with a wide variety disc formats, including DVD+, DVD-, VCD, and SVCD discs. For DVD-RW discs, it has a 1x write/rewrite speed, while for DVD+RW discs it has a 2x write/rewrite speed (DVDs are read at 5x). For CDs, it has a 16x write/10x rewrite/40x read speed.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard keyboard with scroll bar and integrated numeric keypad, and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad.
Screen, Graphcs and Sound
The ATI Radeon X600 SE is a high-end video card, powerful enough to run one large virtual screen across two displays. It features 256 MB of dedicated video RAM, S-Video and the higher-fidelity DVI connections out, and PCI Express x16 support, which enables graphics to process faster. It also features 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro compatible audio and internal Harman Kardon speakers. It features a volume control and mute buttons.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The zd8080us has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs. You get a good offering of connectivity options, including super-fast USB 2.0 and Firewire:

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 S-Video out
  • 1 parallel port
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit)
  • 6-in-1 memory card reader (compatible with Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, and XD Picture Cards)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. Additionally, it enables you to control your television with the included remote and record and pause programs (much like a DVR--or digital video recorder--such as Tivo or ReplayTV). Explore upcoming TV programming with the easy-to-use Electronic Program Guide, or browse through thousands of movies by movie poster, rating, actor, and more with the MovieFinder feature--all with no additional service fee. With the 250 GB hard drive, you'll be able to record and store up to 180 hours of video programming. It's compatible with cable, digital cable, satellite TV and antenna inputs, and it includes an FM tuner.

The included HP Image Zone Plus photo and imaging software makes it easy to organize, edit, share, print, protect, and store your photos and video clips. Organize and find your photos easily by timeline, keywords, and/or location using the unique photo-globe mapping tool. Remove red eye and fix other common problems. Share your photos quickly via e-mails that include thumbnails with links to the full-sized images--without downloading time-consuming attachments.

Other preloaded software includes InterVideo WinDVD Creator and WinDVD SE player, Muvee autoProducer, Apple iTunes, Sonic RecordNow, Norton AntiVirus 2005, Microsoft Works 8.0, MSN Encarta Standard, Microsoft Money, and Quicken 2004 New User Edition.

Dimensions and Weight
At 9.4 pounds, the zd8080 isn't the most easily portable notebook. It measures 15.7 x 11.4e x 1.96 inches (L x W x H).

Power
This notebook is powered by a 12-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which offers an average of 3 hours of battery life (dependent upon computing conditions).

What's in the Box

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect case for ultraportables
This is the perfect case for the 3.5lb subnotebooks, it has an extremely durable ballistic nylon exterior that holds up to abrasion, unlike the faux leather/vinyl that readily tears, especially where the strap attaches and rubs against it. Where the vinyl case rapidly looks ragged and beaten up, this case still looks pristine and new.
The compartment is sized for the smaller notebooks, which is its intended purpose- it's not supposed to be an overnight bag; if that's what you need, a different model would be in order.

The velcro on the outer flap is a noisy on opening, but it does hold well-
It has a decent amount of compartments, with an outer flap to hold the accessories such as ac adapter, mouse etc.
Another compartment on the back is great for quick storage of papers and folders.
The hardware and carrying strap is very well made and will hold up to daily use with no problems.

Highly recommended for subnotebook users; very sharp looking case that affords good protection and durability.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fits large computers, but don't expect too much
This bag is roomy enough to fit comfortably even my Dell Inspiron 8100 with 15.1" screen (the dimensions of my laptop are 13.03" wide, 10.8" deep, and 1.75" thick, which is apparently quite large in the laptop universe). However, it's obviously Targus's no-frills model.

It's quite slim, which can be good for short jaunts, but also comes with some disadvantages. Most obviously, the padding is skimpy. That applies not only to that around the main compartment but also to that covering the handle (made of really stiff fake leather) and the detachable shoulder strap. "Marginal" would be too generous a description; this case is definitely not made for long trips with heavy interiors, not unless you expect to be shifting the bag from shoulder to shoulder or hand to hand every few moments.

Also, there aren't many extra pockets. In fact, there's only one external pocket (the 13" x 9" x 2" one), which opens and closes only by Velcro, and has no sub-pockets. Yes, there are smaller subdivided pockets inside the main compartment where your computer will live, and this compartment nicely opens with dual sturdy zippers along three of four sides. But these smaller subdivided pockets face directly onto your precious laptop itself, without any padding other than the thin film of nylon that holds your extra goodies in place. Personally I would never use those pockets for anything firm and bumpy, even pens, for fear of cracking my laptop's case. That makes those pockets basically unusable unless for soft things like papers, which would fit better in the outer pocket anyway.

There's also a gimmicky removable divider in the main compartment just in case your notebook is so small that you can fit your AC adapter right beside it in the main compartment, in which case you can use the padded divider (detachable by Velcro, of course) to create separate living spaces for those two items. There's also a Velcro strap in the main compartment to restrain your laptop in its living space.

Basically, this case is adequate, for low expectations. But high expectations would include being comfortable carrying the case and bringing lots of additional items, for example if you want this to be your only carry-on piece of luggage. The only way you'd fit your hardback Harry Potter in this bag is if you left your computer at home. ... Read more

The Basics
An awesome roster of portable computers designed for those who won't accept anything less than the finest mobile performance, Toshiba's P25 series of Satellite notebooks will handle virtually any duty you might normally reserve for high-end desktop PCs. As powerful "desktop replacement" notebooks, they are somewhat bulkier and less battery efficient than today's new breed of ultra-lightweight notebooks. However, true power users will find the extra size a small price to pay for amenities such as high-end Pentium 4 processing, solid 3D graphic capabilities and massive 17-inch widescreen displays. This model, the Satellite P25-S526 Notebook PC, features all of the above plus DVD recording and a spacious 80 GB hard disk.

Processor
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today's notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU's on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, while others are quick enough only for basic duties such as word processing, email and the like. The Satellite P25-S526 lies firmly in the latter category, equipped with a blazing 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with Hyper-Threading. Hyper-Threading, a new Intel technology, allows a single CPU system (which most are) to behave at times as a dual CPU system, thus adding substantially more speed to some high-end tasks. Running at 3.2 GHz, this particular processor would be one of the fastest in any notebook, but it is nothing less than spectacular with its Hyper-Threading support.

Memory
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM) for faster retrieval. More RAM means more efficient computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The Satellite P25-S526 incorporates 512 MB of RAM, more than enough for most situations. Ultra-demanding users may want to expand their RAM, and with the Satellite P25-S526 they can, to a boggling maximum of 2048 MB.

Video
CPU's are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). This system's graphics controller is an nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 with 64 MB of dedicated video RAM. While a graphics card with 128 MB or more of video RAM is considered ideal for a completely smooth frame rate in state-of-the-art 3D games and 3D animation apps, this card is nevertheless comparatively powerful and more than enough for all but the most demanding gamers and 3D artisans.

Display
You'll love the way your DVD movies and 3D games look on the system's roomy 17-inch TFT WXGA display. Substantially larger than most notebook viewing screens, this display is especially notable for its widescreen format, the same panoramic configuration favored by movie-makers and some high-end game producers. And with a maximum resolution of 1440 by 900, you can expect super-sharp images no matter what application you're using.

Hard Disk
The Satellite P25-S526 features a massive 80 GB of hard disk space. This amount of data storage is a welcome perk indeed for those who want to operate a broad range of applications and also keep a large library of space-gobbling music and/or multimedia files.

Optical Drive
An optical drive is essential in today's computing environment. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs. With a DVD-ROM drive you can watch DVD movies. And with a DVD-RW drive, you can "write" home movies to durable discs and archive files to DVD (DVDs boast more than seven times the storage capacity of a CD). Some drives allow you to do a combination of all of these tasks. This system features a DVD-Super-Multi drive that supports all of the above in each of today's most common CD and DVD formats.

Audio
The system features an integrated audio processor that mimics the spatial awareness of surround sound, and two harman-kardon speakers for powerful mobile stereo output.

Keyboard and Controls
You'll control your notebook via an 85-key keyboard with 12 function keys, dedicated Windows keys support, and a TouchPad pointing device with scroll. CD controls include Play/Pause, Stop/Eject, Previous, and Skip/Next.

Connectivity and Expansion
The Satellite P25-S526 offers a wide variety of ways to keep in touch, including a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up Internet and email access, an RJ-45 Ethernet port for high-speed wired network and Internet, and integrated wireless LAN for cordless e-communication at home, at the office or on the road via a local public hotspot. Other key amenities include four high-speed USB 2.0 ports for plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, an infrared port for interacting with wireless peripherals, an IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders), and a digital (S-Video) TV-out port.

Operating System and Software
Toshiba has fitted the system with today's most widely accepted operating system, Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition.

Dimensions and Weight
Notebook computers are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes and weights. Many of today's most powerful notebooks are also the largest, weighing ten or twelve lbs or more and therefore too big and cumbersome for extensive, continuous traveling. These are often referred to as "desktop replacements". On the other extreme are "thin and lights" or "ultra-portables", super-miniaturized units that typically aren't as powerful as their larger brethren but weigh as little as two lbs and will often fit comfortably inside a large purse. The Satellite P25-S526 is definitely larger than average, yet more compact than many other "desktop replacements" at 16.4 by 11.5 by 1.8 inches and 9.9 lbs.

Power
The system is equipped with a 12-cell Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery that delivers 1.5 hours between charges. This is not particularly efficient when compared with less capable ultra-portables using Intel's Centrino technology and Pentium M processor, but is in keeping with standard desktop replacement battery longevity. ...
